Dr. Fumiko Miyamoto is great. I always ask for her and take all my pets to her. Denise at the front desk is rude. My dog has a reoccurring eye problem and has been diagnosed several times. They won't let me order her eye drops from 1-800-petmeds. They want to come in, pay the $50 visit and buy the eye drops from them. If they truly cared about the pet and not about money, it wouldn't be this way. Read Less

Highly recommend this office!! Dr. Fumi is the best! When my kitten had an instruction from eating yarn and was brought to ER, the Doc there had no compassion, showed no concern and was quick to want to euthanize my baby boy or do immmediate surgery in which he wasn't even in a condition yet to under go surgery. Luckily, a close family friend recommended Dr Fumi and they asked to see Pablo immediately. She explained everything thoroughly and showed she wasn't in this just to get money out of me. She actually cared about saving Pablo and she did just that. Her and her staff got him well hydrated again and performed surgery following day and now he's home, looks great and is feeling great! Hes back to playing, eating and causing havic around the house...lol!! I cannot say enough about the Docs and staff here. They welcome you and make you feel at home the minute you open the door. I can't be more then please with the service I received here. Dr. Fumi and team did so much for my baby girl YaYa. Dr. Fumi is an amazing vet. She did all she could to try and save my fur baby knowing I wasn't financially set up when her sickness fell upon us. The care she gave my pet and to my family was more then I could ever ask for. One of the Drs. there helped my cat after being bitten by a wild animal, and this animal left her a hole on her behind, which later healed. Poor thing! I also boarded her there on one occasion and had no problems. The staff is friendly and they have been around for a while. Read Less

Dr. Fumi and her team saved a little stray kitten I picked up from outside my office who was in very bad shape when I brought him in for help. After 6 days out in the pouring rain I was able to catch him and get him the help he needed. We named this little guy Stormy!! The Team has helped Stormy make a miraculous recovery. He was starving, underweight, fleas, mites, worms and the mange as well as an infection. 5 weeks later and a lot of love and TLC Stormy has become a new member of the family and a beautiful kitten. We have been taking our cats to South Federal since we moved to the neighborhood in 1988.  Dr. Melian is only the start of the caring folks at this clinic.  Dr Stelljes is normally the vet that sees our cats and she also truly emanates nothing but caring for them, even when one is a bit "testy".  I have never felt taken advantage of, nor has any process or procedure been suggested that I didn't agree with.  The only negative for me is that if it is busy, my cats are terrified by barking dogs being so close as it is a small waiting room.  However, not a big enough issue to change.   I probably feel worse than they do. We have been taking our pets to South Federal since we moved here about 9 years ago.  Our pets were getting on up there in years and so we would go to South Federal and then end up having to make their primary vet one of the larger (far away) hospitals that had specialists (in our case a cardiologist and a neurologist).  It got to where we felt like we were only going to South Federal when our animals where finally ready to be put to sleep.  In fact, the last (and third) time we had an animal put down, my husband joked that he was going to go in and tell the receptionist "we'll have the usual".That said, I have to say that I have been deeply impressed with Dr. Meilan in all of my dealings with him.  Not only do I feel he emanates a sincere empathy toward my animals, but he greatly impressed me with his advice in handling one of our animals who developed a brain tumor.  Dr. Meilan was very kind, yet very honest and straightforward with me about what our options were and about what HE would do in our situation.  At a time when people will try to sell you just about anything whether you need it or not, Dr. Meilan impressed me as a man who would not waste my money.  He in fact discouraged me from further diagnosis and treatments which he knew would most likely do nothing to prolong my cats life and serve only to empty my pocketbook.  How often do you have that happen to you in this day and time?!  In the final analysis (which came in the form of a 2K cat scan at a specialist), he was absolutely correct!  Because of this sort of honesty, I now trust implicitly when I walk thru those doors that I am not being taken advantage of.  And let me tell you, that is a great feeling to have. The woman that answers the phone has debilitating RA. The worst I've seen and yes you can see it. I assume she is in tremendous pain all of the time. Keeping someone on staff like that knowing she's going to have mostly bad days says a lot about the place. That being said they are not the most technically astute vet  or fanciest aka Gentle Care but certainly not a bad vet and they do listen to you and care about your pet. I was looking for a new vet when I moved to FLL 10 years ago and I went to Gentle Care and they "politely" dismissed me saying that 'they had enough patients and I should try South Federal Animal Hospital"...So much for Gentle Care eh? If their phone manner is in any way reflective of their "bed side" manner, stay as far away from this vet as possible.  As a temporary resident in Ft. Lauderdale I telephoned with questions.  They were curt and unresponsive and actually quite rude.  There are other, more considerate and kind vets in Broward County so I highly encourage you to seek out a different vet.
