I first found Southport Animal Hospital when my dog needed routine vaccine updates.  Since then I've moved to just north of Miami.  But I've found the quality of service (pick any industry) plummets once you cross the Dade County line (yes it's that bad).  So we drive the 30 minutes north to come up here.  As long as I'm in South Florida I won't go to any other veterinarian.  They are very thorough, but don't load you up with excessive tests or services.  And everyone is pretty nice and sweet to the dogs. This place is amazing! I run in crying, holding my unresponsive limp fur baby in my arms, with my daughter in tow. I tell the fromt desk she got ahold of a bullfrog. She immediately rushes us to the back and everyone back they got right to work. Because of my fur baby's size (chihuahua terrier) there was alot to worry about. They washed her down, stopped her seizures and treated her with love and care. My baby had to stay and be on an IV drip but she's all better. Upon rescuing our dog just over a year ago, my boyfriend and I were on the hunt for the best vet we could find. This one turned out to be the closest and had amazing reviews. So we went for it and we've been going ever since! We usually see Dr. Hagadorn but we've had to see Dr. marlar on a couple of occasions and she's amazing too! She actually assisted me over the phone when my dog accidentally got ahold of some Advil. The rest of the staff is amazing as well and we're always in and out without an issue. I am so impressed w the care they took of my precious Stella. Stella is allergic to everything. She was so itchy she wouldn't even let me walk her w out scratching for 10 mins first. She was so miserable her tail was drooping for 2 weeks. I took her to Southport Vet hospital and the Dr gave her a shot. Ashley the tech was very good w her. They gave me oral meds for fleas and pills for the itching. The next day was a Saturday and the Dr herself called to see how Stella was doing. She has hardly had an itch since then and when she does I have the proper meds to treat her. And her tail is straight again. I love this Vet's office and I highly recommend them. I have a rescue pit who is extremely anxious but was in desperate need of a nail trim. I was nervous about bringing him in, but it was the easiest vet experience ever. All the staff are very friendly and I knew he was in good hands. He had his nails trimmed, anal glands expressed, and turns out he has an ear infection. My baby went in as an emergency patient. She was bleeding in her stool and vomiting, and completely dehydrated! They took her in immediately, kept her for observation and to hydrate her with an IV... they called to update me and were very reasonable in $$... thankfully they saved my dogs life! Read Less

I had a bad experience at another vet and Southport was such a relief. They were honest, reasonable, and caring. The vet was very sweet and genuine. After I went and got my pet's prescription they called me a few days later just to see if she was ok with her meds. I found this was such a nice gesture. Those other reviews are very old. First off, they were located in a mobile home, due to their renovations or moving or whatever. I brought my two kittens there. One for a swollen paw. At the time we also decided to drop them off for spay/neuter. I had been checking prices for the spay/neuter and average price for the area was about $60, so I didn't think pricing would be an issue. They gave the first cat a shot for the swelling in his paw, because they thought it was just a simple sprain. Turns out, his paw is actually broken, indicative of the bone sticking up out of his paw. But, that would only be obvious if his paw was touched or xrayed or examined. Funny, how they charged for an examination. And the pricing for the spay/neuter turned out to be over $180 for each cat! Do not take your animals in for spay/neuter, definitely go to the human society first! Read Less

Dr. Hagadorn and the staff at Southport (shout out to Melissa and Bonnie) are fantastic - excellent care for my pets and extremely responsive in terms of appointments and medication refills. Every single employee has been unfailingly professional and gentle in the years I have been going there. When my young cat had to be put down unexpectedly, the doctors and staff treated me so kindly and even sent me a condolence card afterward. Wow. What a great experience. In the past eight months I've seen about six or seven vets. This was the best experience I've ever had. My Great Dane puppy pulled a muscle in her shoulder. Dr. Marlor quickly diagnosed her, explained the problem very well, and treated us with a ton of respect. I left paying less than $200; which is still shocking considering all that we did and the various medication my puppy needs for the pain. This place is awesome! I use this veterinary service mainly because there never is a wait and you could get right in .The two girls at the counter are extremely arrogant and rude they never smile they do not acknowledge you by name .they have bad attitudes .the two doctors are so so ,  they do overcharge I have had two dogs put down and the cremation charges were ridiculous. so I ended up taking the dogs home myself and burying them myself . I've been taking my cats to Dr. Hagadorn at Southport Veterinary Clinic since I moved to South Florida in 2005. Everyone there is unbelievably kind and nice... of course they are all animal lovers and so sweet to my pookies. We just moved to Ft. Lauderdale recently.  I had my cat, Monkey, spayed and vaccinated elsewhere.  When I brought her home, she didn't eat or drink and seemed very ill. I'm sure this was not their fault - I know my cat's breed is sensitive to rabies vaccines.  I took her back to that same vet the next morning and they gave her fluids but expressed little concern.  The next day, after still no food or water, I worried my little 4 lb cat was in danger.  The original vet was closed, so I took her to Southport Animal Hospital.  Here, she was treated with the utmost of concern.  The vet (Dr. Marlar) and the tech took plenty of time to assess my cat's condition and offered recommendations.  She also took time to get to know me and my husband and talked about her own pets.  We were impressed with the friendliness of the office.  We were also very impressed with the follow-up.  Dr. Marlar personally called the next morning to check on Monkey and spent time answering all my questions.  The original vet never called us once to follow up.  I know where we will go each and every time we need a vet now.Thank you to Dr. Marlar and everyone at Southport Animal Hospital.  Monkey is finally back to her old mischievous self again! I just moved to the area and my kitty Rusella had an awful infection all around her neck. I had just lost my job, but couldn't see her in such pain. They were able to take me in that afternoon. Forgot the doctor's name but he was really really nice. I felt like he actually cared not only about me losing my job and knowing the stress then of having a sick cat. My 13 year old Lab started bleeding from his ear. I had problems with our last vet and refused to go back. A friend suggested Southport and it was close so I went. The staff was so sweet and understanding. The vet Dr. Carew said it was a tumor and he would stop the bleeding. Instead of expensive procedures and tests, he was respectful and stated the obvious that my dog is quite old and we are gonna treat the symptoms, if that works we are good to go, if not then we can do more tests. Hi, my name is Hunter, I am 9 years old. My guinea pig got sick. His name is Butterball. He was losing his hair and got skinny. We brought him to Southport Animal Hospital right away. He weighed 1 pound and he had mites from the pet store. Dr. Carew took care of him and gave him medicine on his back and we sprayed oatmeal on him ever day. He weighs 4 pounds now and is so fat and healthy. My hotdog dog goes there, too... his name is Papi Pops. Butterball and Papi love going to the doctors. They are so nice there. My pups love this Vet.!! Staff was friendly and rates are very good. It costs me 1/3 what I was paying at my last Vet and we didn't sit in waiting room for a half and hour either, they took us right in. Both doctors, Hagadorn and Carew are extremely talented and have tremendous reputations. Dr. Carew has preformed successful surgeries on both of my dogs and again, didn't break my bank!! Southport is my new Veterian center for my pet needs. I cannot express more appreciation for the care they gave my Sheltie Five-Oh , who recently underwent emergency surgery for a condition that I was not even aware of.Shelties have thich coats and my Five-Oh is like a furry teddy bear.When I went to the vet I thought I was going because my dog was vomiting but after a close examine the vet found a punture under the fur where he had ingested a stick that was not festering into a large wound. You could not see this unless you shaved the dog.It just never occured to me that this could be his problem.They did an emergence surgery and cleaned it all out.The vet was very concerned and treated my Five-Oh better than own doctor does me sometimes.The staff was just great and so friendly I just want to say a big Thanks .The price was great and the Vet Jon Paul went above and beyond in his service treating other small problems at the same time.You are the best.G G Goda Read Less

In the span of 28 years I have had 2 dogs that were treated at Imperial Point Animal Hospital with excellent results. The office staff is excellent and the doctors are very knowledgeable and capable. I would highly recommend this animal hospital for anyone's pet and they are very close to the Fort Lauderdale Airport for boarding your animal. My dog actually loves staying there when I go on a trip. In the beginning she would look at me as though to say ""why are you leaving me""? They not only vaccinated my dog twice for things she had already had because they were too lazy to look in her chart, but they also gave her expensive treatments that simply did not work. They quote you one thing and when you pick up you pet, and your bill is at least 150% higher than they promised. Dr. Hagadorn is the BEST in all of South Florida. Vinnie and I have been with him for the 15 years we have lived in South Florida. We had Mutley who left us at the ripe old age of 18 1/2 and because of Dr. H she was around for 3 more years than we thought she would have been. When we had to send her to Doggie Heaven he went beyond the call of duty to make it as easy as it could have been and didn't pressure us to leave her. He gave us all the time we wanted with her and she went so peacefully. Our trials and tribualations with Shawdow and Lucky , well that's a story that would take up all the characters in this text. Dr. H worked so hard as did his staff to make them well and when the inevitable was the only recourse was to join Mutley. Then along came Angel and Dr. H has been thru so much with us and Angel I could write for days. Anyhoo tho she has behavioral issues and doesn't like visiting Dr. H he is so calm, caring and his attentiveness is by far goes beyond expectations. His staff is so WONDERFUL with our little girl. In the 20 yrs that I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, with the number of pets that I had while living there, the practice of Dr. Hagadorn really never let me or my pets down. I had animals in my care that I loved dearly. Unfortunately some of them developed serious problems. Dr. Hagadorn never let me down. I have always felt that he did the best he could have done in the situations presented to him and that he provided me with the support I needed to get through ""difficult times"". ""Emergency Vet"" services are available in that area and it is a very pricey endeavor. Been there. Done that. Comes out to be a lot like what happens to people who get sick at odd hours of the day. Since I left the area, I have had to engage in another Vet practice. If it weren't for what Dr. Hagadorn taught me, my beloved Zoey would be dead. She became Thyroid Toxic and my ""new Vet"" told me that she was stressed and therefore losing her hair on her abdomen. After the visit, I asked if a T4 level was drawn. When I called to ask if they provide 24 hour emergency care the answer was ""No, we only have one vetenarian on board"". This is not what their web site states. I informed the woman who answered the phone (Dec 8, 2006) that we were moving to Lighthouse Point and wanted to have an ER number on hand in case of an emergency for our cats and/or dog to which she replied, ""well, this is not the place for you...bring your pet to Hollywood"". She was extremely rude on the phone. We will never bring our pets to this place. Both my husband and I are practicing physicians in the area.
