Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Victoria Park Animal Hospital based on my recent experiences. My frustration started with the consistently late appointments, where I had to wait for an additional 30 minutes each time. It's disrespectful of my time and shows a lack of professionalism on their part. Moreover, the staff's attitude was disappointing. They were rude and inconsiderate towards customers, which made the entire visit uncomfortable. I believe that a veterinary hospital should prioritize their customer's satisfaction and show empathy, especially during stressful situations involving our beloved pets. The final straw was when I arrived an hour before closing to have my dog's nails trimmed, but they refused to do it. A reputable animal hospital should be willing to provide essential services, especially during their operating hours. This incident demonstrated a lack of commitment to their customers' needs and made me feel like they just wanted to finish their day and go home. Additionally, the customer support at Victoria Park Animal Hospital was subpar. It seemed like they had difficulty understanding my concerns and were unorganized in handling appointments and inquiries. Clear communication is vital in any professional setting, especially in a medical environment. While I hate writing negative reviews and don't wish to hurt any business, I sincerely hope that this feedback reaches the management or owners of Victoria Park Animal Hospital. I believe they need to address these issues promptly and make significant improvements in their operations and customer service. Until I see visible changes, I won't be returning to this hospital, and I caution others to consider alternative options for their pet's care. Read Less

I brought my Yorkie, Bentley to see Dr. Benson about three weeks ago (on a Saturday morning as a new client walk-in) for a second opinion because he had inflammation around his upper canine tooth and a growth around that tooth that was bleeding a lot for about a week prior to the visit. The reason we came to see Dr. Benson is because our prior vet barely examined him, misdiagnosed his condition as an "abscess" and continued to tell us that the profuse bleeding was normal over two separate calls. After 4 days of watching our poor pup bleed, we decided to get a second opinion. We woke up early and headed to Victoria Park hoping that they could squeeze Bentley in (we were a new client without an appointment). Victoria Park was incredible, not only did they find the time to see Bentley, but Dr. Benson also took the time to answer all of our questions. She immediately said that Bentley needed to have a biopsy of the inflamed area (something our prior vet never recommended). We immediately scheduled him for surgery and thank god we did. The biopsy came back as a Plasma Cell Tumor. Dr. Benson further answered all of our questions regarding the Plasma Cell Tumor and was extremely patient, honest and knowledgeable. We really felt and continue to feel like she had Bentley’s best interests at heart, which not very many vets do. The staff at Victoria Park was also very nice and helpful throughout the process. I would definitely recommend Dr. Benson and her office for your fur babies needs! Read Less

I initially thought that Dr.Birken really cared about her patients but then I realized that I was being over charged by $60 for each prescription refills per month and that the medicine was not the strength that was prescribed. My dog needs eye drops everyday and Dr. Birken was making me go through her office to get the prescription from the pharmacy, and the pharmacy would send medicine to her office which they rebottled and retagged it, and they were charging me around $100 per prescription per month for 2 years. The amount of eye drops to administer to my dog’s eyes needed to be increased as it did work so well overtime and had to spend more money to Dr. Birken’s office. The staff would not give me the name of their pharmacy but I finally found out and I call the pharmacy directly and I found out that the medicine costs only $45. I changed vet and the new vet sent in a 6 months refill prescription to the pharmacy. Now I pay $45 and I noticed that the product is working better and the number of drops to administer to my dog’s eyes decreased which tells me that the strength of the medicine is now true and was being tampered with Before. I gave them a business and they took advantage of me and my dog. Read Less

ABUSE OF PETS!!! Stay always!! As a fellow Doctor I was disgusted with this practice and facility. I personally saw them abuse animals in the back while picking my pet up for grooming, just to get them to make less noise in cramped cages, My dog had marks and bites from other dogs they let in the same cage with mine. I've already reported this to associations related to this field but people should know this facility is very poorly supervised. The doctor who owns this place wasn't even there when this occurred, she was on "vacation" and I was told it would be looked into and nothing as of yet from the owner. I would say to all pet lovers and owners you never know sometimes how back door treatment of your pets are and this facility is not the one you want to leave anything you love behind at. Run. I dont like to write bad reviews. I dont believe that the staff is wonderful, they talk to you like you are a retard. The place is no very clean, especially the rooms where they ask you to wait, you can see rolls of furs in the hallway through the glass door like in the sierra nevada!. As it is an hospital , you expect to have clean floors and tables right? Then the bills. I asked for a simple health certificate before to travel, they insisted over the phone to do an International certificate to be stamped at the agricultural dept in Miami. My dog is a 9 pounds chihuahua and I always travel with her vaccinations proofs which is never asked for. So I refused to do that. Because they dont communicate with you their cost, upfront, now I know why, they charged me 166 dollars for 6 pages of papers that I did not ask for. I bring my blank form but the answer was, we have our own....After an hour waiting I got all these papers and a credit card charge of 166....When I came back home I called 2 different vets who said they charge 100 and 120 for the same thing. Do I have to tell you that when I asked for a refund of 40 dollars which was fair, they fought on the phone and refused. They lied and said that the cost was disclosed upfront, never it was of course!... So I will never go back again as I dont trust liars and unfriendly people to be good for my dog. This and the fact it is dirty, the blond girl at the desk had a runny nose and was weeping it with the back of her hand, nice....I will drive to Bayshore Clinic 140th and Biscayne instead. I had to click on a star to post this, but I am so upset that even a star is too good. Read Less

Dr Birkin is great. I brought my elderly cat in with neurological deficits and they treated him and kept him until he improved and could come home. When I got him back he was much better. He was happy and healthy for another 8 full months. He ended up suffering another stroke and it was during the evening so I had to bring him to another emergency 24 hour veterinary hospital and he passed away from another stroke (he was very old). However, Dr Birkin helped give him another happy and healthy 8 months before he passed. She cares a lot and takes the time to properly diagnose the animal for treatment and doesn't make off the cuff judgments. She is detail oriented and caring. You can trust her and know she is taking good care of your pet. Read Less

I took my Tabby in for his rabies shot and I opted for the 3 year shot this time. Usually Dr. Birken takes less then 10 seconds to administer the shot. This time it took longer and she had a nurse holding my Tabby's neck in a particular way around his neck as to comfort him, but she had 3/4 of her hands covered up by the sleeves of her blue jacket, which I found quite odd at first. The process took longer than usual, the comforting and the short administration was longer than usual. In fact there was no nurse holding my cat last time. When I got home I caressed Tabby behind his neck and felt a lump. After looking closely it was freshly dried up blood coming out of a tinny star shaped puncture. I had no idea how he could of gotten a puncture there. I called the office asking for the nurse's name who assisted Dr. Birken that day, but the reception clerk Ronnie became aggressive and stated they do not give out that information. I asked her for the first name of the nurse who assisted the doctor and she refused to give this information to me. We both had a heated discussion about this and she hung up on me refusing to give me the nurses name. I called back and spoke to some other reception staff who stated the name of the nurse was not listed under that particular visit appointment in her computer, which I found odd because the staff present during a rabies shot is usually noted on the certificate. Then, Ronnie grabbed the phone from that clerks I was speaking to and told me: we don't give out this information and that she would have Dr. Birken call me. I then waited for Dr. Birken to call and when she did I asked her for the nurse's name and she provided it to me. I then bluntly told her I found a puncture behind my Tabby's neck after the appointment and wanted to know if the nurse injected something behind his neck because the nurse's hands were oddly fully covered with the sleeves of her blue coat. Dr. denied that this would be the case. And told me she felt offended by my suggestion. The discussion ended and I accepted her reply. This time there were behavioral changes in Tabby which I had not seen with the 1 year rabies shot administered the previous year. - 4 Months later I called Dr. Birken to ask if she could prescribe a gingivitis cure for my Tabby's gums and the clerks Ronnie was the one who took the call again. She was much more courteous and nice on the phone then last time. I asked her if she could ask Dr. to prescribe something without me having to see her for a visit since she had examined Tabby's teeth during the previous visit and had mentioned he needed dental health. Ronnie said she does not believe Dr. would prescribe something without coming in for a visit since it had been 4 month since I last saw the Dr. I told Ronnie she should ask the Dr. anyway, because she cannot speak for what the Dr. will decide. I then got a call back and Dr. Birken agreed to prescribe a gum antibiotic for Tabby which I would need to pick up. When I appeared at the office to pick up the prescription, Ronnie greeted me but had the next clerk receptionist bring out the medicine, hand it to me and cash me out. While there I saw the nurse who assisted Dr. Birken during the rabies shot visit 4 months prior, she was wearing a short sleeved jacket this time, but had a mean unfriendly look on her face as he changed the garbage bags underneath the reception desk. During check out the nest clerk asked me if I knew how to use the measuring syringe to administer the medicine and attempted to open a sterilized package with a syringe. I stopped by saying you don't need to do that, so she handed it to me and I took the prescription and walked away. During my exit both Ronnie and older, bitter and unappealing looking clerks criticized "my appearance" by whispering loud enough so I could hear their comments while on my way out and the door shut behind me. I am entitled to make this post and you earned it. Glad I moved and won't be dealing with your office anymore. Read Less

The short: Dr. Birken is an exceptional vet. The long: My lab mutt Goonie usually runs and plays all day and weighs about 80 pounds. He eats about 4 cups of dry a day and is incredibly affectionate. I had found him at the Miami Dade Animal Services when he was a couple months old, a day before he was to be euthanized.....he has scars to this day on his legs from burns or flea bites from the streets when he was a puppy....we are not really sure what the scars are from. He is a treasure. He loves all other animals. The cat is his best friend. He is incredibly smart and we believe he is part Border Collie from his markings and his obsession with fetching the ball. About 6 months ago at 2 years old, he had been very healthy and up to date on shots, when suddenly he stopped eating, started pooping liquid, and was depressed/lethargic. He had lost a lot of weight in just a few days, and I started to panic. I had recently moved away from Fort Lauderdale, so I took him to a vet here in Jupiter where I live now. After an examination the local vet said there was nothing he could give our dog that would help in the long run. He said there was a lot of inflammation in the anal canal and the only way to figure out what was going on was to schedule a colonoscopy. My fiance and I spent several hours on the phone trying to line up a colonoscopy with an animal hospital in Jupiter. The procedure would involve him being left at the hospital and made unconscious in his already very weak, depressed state. I believe to this day that if we had gone through with the colonoscopy he might of died. He was so weak and lethargic, had lost so much weight in just a matter of days, and doesn't do well with boarding/separation from us. At that time, I didn't know what was the right thing to do. I felt completely helpless and frustrated that the colonoscopy was the only option the vet in Jupiter had given us. I remembered Dr. Birken in Fort Lauderdale, who was the first vet I had ever taken Goonie to. I left a message that it was an emergency, and heard from her soon after. She got me in for an appointment in Fort Lauderdale the next morning, so we put the whole colonoscopy idea on hold. Dr. Birken had a very calming effect on us and she prescribed several medicines. He got a couple shots. Everything worked. Goonie started eating again immediately and within days showed major improvement. The complete recovery took over a month, but it was a good month because we saw the improvements daily. We still don't know what caused such a rapid deterioration of his health, but today Goonie is his happy, healthy self and we owe this to Dr. Birken. She had a very open mind about how to improve the situation. She also called every few days until it was clear he was going to get better. Dr. Birken is a wonderful doctor and we are forever thankful we put the situation in her hands. Read Less

Always get a second or at least a third opinion vets nowadays are young and inexperienced and only go by the book this vet is only good for getting your prescriptions renewed or buying pet food. Read Less

Ever since I got my first dog Ollie I have been bringing her to Dr. Birken at Victoria Park animal hospital. From the moment I met Dr. Birken I felt like I have known her for years. She was great to Ollie and so was her staff. The hospital is new and clean and a place Ollie would love to visit. Sadly I moved to NY and now go to a different vet, but anytime I have a question or need anything Dr. Birken is always just a phone call away and always happy to answer any questions I have for her. Dr. Birken and her staff truely make you feel like family. I couldn't recommended Victoria Park Animal Hospital enough. 5 stars!

Read Less
