This vet was just not a good fit for our pets. I suggest you look around, ask lots of questions and question everything. Prices are really out of line with other vets in the area that I spoke with.

2 years ago when I got my first dog I brought her in to get checked out have her chipped & get all her shots up to date. They talked me into a paw plan & 2 months later I moved &changed banks & had to get a new bank card, forgetting completely about the automated payment they took out every month mind you I had never used any of the services. Within the same week of that happening I got a new phone and my number changed & now almost two years later when I moved back to Florida with a new puppy, I brought her in to be chipped & vaccinated & tested for heartworm. When I brought my 70 lb 8 month old Great Dane puppy in for these things, the vet tech mentioned that I owed the money for the entire expired paw plan that I never used, when I explained the situation to her, she responded “you used a good majority of the services” with a very snotty attitude. I felt super uncomfortable & paid a good portion of the money that was owed even though I didn’t use the services because she made me feel so uncomfortable. The vet herself then came in to give my puppy a look over & scolded me telling me I need to get her more familiar with the vet because the industry is mostly made up of woman & by not touching my dog enough she will be uncomfortable with the vet and vet techs touching her and she will be difficult to handle when really it’s because she is a young hyper puppy who loves attention from people & the vet spent no time trying to make my puppy comfortable with her the way she should have. A few weeks later my puppy pooped out tape worms & I called & they told me to come in & pick up some drontal. When I got there the lady at the front desk asked me if I was sure they were tapeworms & I said I wasn’t certain but I thought so. She told me that she would sell me the drontal but a fecal sample would be a good idea to make sure they were tapeworms & not a different type of worms because the drontal wouldn’t kill the other worms (after googling this I realized that was not true) so I went ahead with the fecal sample. The day I brought the fecal sample in I had a family emergency & we had to go out of state. On my way there they called me & told me the fecal sample came back positive for Giardia & that both dogs need to be treated. I asked about the tape worms & the woman told me the fecal sample wouldn’t be able to detect them which confused me because he receptionist told me that was the only way to be sure. I then realized they were unorganized, didn’t communicate with one another, & were uneducated. A couple weeks went by & one day after checking my bank account I had realized that they had charged me The remainder of the two year expired paw plan that I never used any of the services by running a bank card I had on file after telling me they would never charge me for anything without my authorization. I I called & the woman tried to negotiate me into paying half of the remaining balance which wasn’t much but I had already paid for 3/4 of a paw plan that was never used. Her reasoning for wanting to charge me for half of the remaining balance was because they had to call me & could t get ahold of me. I’m sorry but no amount of phone calls is worth $350, they could have sent me an email. after getting to Michigan and having my dogs treated for Giardia, I went to the vet and they charged me only $38 for a more accurate IDEXX SNAP test, &informed me that under a microscope a Giardia cyst & yeast look very similar & an inexperienced lab tech could have mistaken one for another, which bfah didn’t tell me. One time We went in for a weird cough & the vet told me to wait it out. Then my moms dog started up with it so I brought him in & it was a different vet & she seemed concerned the other one didn’t prescribe anything for my dog. Clearly they care about what’s in your pocket more than the well being of the animal. How am I supposed to trust someone when they give me the wrong info and none of them agree on anything? The day I brought my moms dog in they put me in a side room & forgot about me for an hour & 15 minutes. Will never go back Read Less

This Animal Hospital is the perfect location especially for those who live in Gateway. I've personally taken my pet there once for an emergency exam and a second for a check-up. Overall the staff is very accommodating and understandable. Thankfully they made time to fit in myself and my dog. The Doctor was very kind and informative. However, two areas that need to be improved include the upkeep of this hospital and it's cleanliness. The condition of this facility is very poor. Additionally, in the lobby, I picked up 5 cans of dog food, which I later noticed was one year expired. Unacceptable. While the staff is very compassionate, and the prices are fair, there is definitely room for improvement. Read Less

I had not been to this vet since 2014 because i did not have a pleasant experience back then and they are very pricey; however I decided to give them a another chance considering their location is convenient for me and maybe different personnel. Well, I will say people are much friendlier now but still not happy with their services. I took my 11 year old pup to get a skin wart looked at, they stuck a needle in it and was told someone will be calling me with the results. 2 weeks later, nothing. I called today and was told the results have been in but a doctor would have to tell me and assured me I would get a call back. Still nothing. I paid $300 for them to find out what is growing on my pup, 2 weeks later, I still dont know. Not happy. Read Less

Been going for years with my pets and no issues, friendly staff and doctors.  I got a foster dog with lots of health problems and brought him here.  At the visit, I provided the medical records from previous vet, Plus! brought in all the meds he was using to put in his chart.  Was told that one of the meds could be ordered for me when he ran out (eye drops).  When the time came to reorder, I called the office and was rudely told I had already got a refill last week, before the receptionist even knew the medication I was requesting, when I let her know it was a different med, she took a message.  I got a call back that they had no record of that med and couldn't order the med for me.  Well, that's not what I was told at the visit and I brought all the meds in to be put in his chart.  Then someone else gets on the phone and says they will call around and see what they can do.  I ask when I can expect to have a call back and she says, she doesn't know.  No estimate at all, while my foster dog is almost out of meds.  I ask to speak with the manager, was put on hold for 10 minutes and same person tells me she is the manager.   She then tells me I can pick up ointment instead of eye drops.  So I'm going to rub ointment on the dogs eyeballs?  Long story short, I called the previous vet and got the medicine ordered in 2 minutes.  It was a very frustrating waste of my time and energy. Turns out there was nothing wrong with my dog. She just drank to much water and she was acting weird. There was no reason to charge me for all those exams I had no idea what they were talking about anyways. They couldn't even give me a clue what was wrong with her. Told me she had diabetes and is having sezsures. Not the case. My dog was back to normal the next day without meds. I feel like I went in the by mistake and lost 400 bucks. You would figure you are vets and have a slight clue on what she may be experiencing but nope. My good hard earned money just gone to waste. Thanks! Will never come back here again. Read Less

We recently moved from Arizona and with having 4 pets it was important that we find somewhere we felt comfortable for our pets. We tried another local vet that was really nice, but a bit too far and the facility was dated. Best Friends is super close to our house & an updated & very clean facility. The team at the front is always always kind & great to talk to. We've seen multiple doctors here and have always had a great experience. That also seem to really care about all our pets which is of course important. They take Care Credit here which is a huge plus for us & additionally offer pet plans that allow you to pay monthly for a package of services depending on your pet's needs. Read Less

Really disappointed here. I've sent other friends and family to this vet center to have their fur babies looked at and never had anything negative reported. I suggested this place because my mom swore up and down that they were the best and always has taken her dogs there. My husband and I have an older dog. She is still in amazing health and my husband has had her since before his 9 year old son was born. We noticed she had some swelling in her rear leg and was limping pretty badly. We needed to take her in. My husband made an appointment at another place but I piped up and said "Why not go here! It's close by and my friends and family have all had great experiences with it!" So we did. My husband brought her in and when he came home I was ready to hear what the issue was and what the resolution would be. Well as it turns out there was none except "Pay $1500 for surgery" He said the Dr. wouldn't discuss any other possibilities other then "She has a torn ligament". She even tried to say my dog isn't in pain! My dogs hock is the size of a golfball (Huge compared to her other one). She quoted us at $500 for an X-Ray and just wouldn't drop the idea of this expensive surgery. When he finally got her to mention a different diagnosis her next response was "Oh well it could be cancer." Total nonsense. She gave us some anti-inflammatories and nothing for her pain and that was it. The total cost for the visit? $280. When I called to make the appointment I made sure to ask a general estimate of what the trip would cost and the woman advised that unless they decide to do X-rays (Which we were wanting to do), the visit would be $60. So now our dog is still in pain and we're out $280 with NO X-ray.  Really REALLY disappointed.   03/06/2017-- UPDATESomeone did reach out to me. They left a message on my husband's phone and said something to the effect of "I believe it was a MR that came in. If there is a MRS in the house that wrote the review, please have her call to clear up any confusion". I'll be honest here, I don't think there was any confusion. My dog is still limping and has to be carried everywhere. The swelling has gone down some (As i said, they gave us anti-inflammatory medication so this result was expected), but she is still immobile. We still have no answers and if we want any, we're looking at $500 for an X-ray. On a positive note, I will say this: The woman at the front desk was very friendly. I spoke with her on the phone and she was very nice. Even the woman who left the message on my husband's phone was trying to be nice and professional even though I could tell she was angry at me (I would be too after reading that review about my business). I DO believe they care about the animals that come through there but I don't believe in taking advantage of people's emotions. In my husband's exact words, that's how he felt. "They KNOW I love this dog and would do anything for her and they took advantage of that". To wrap things up here, I will return the vets call to get more information. Hopefully I can be convinced that I was wrong and change this review but until then, this was the experience as far as I'm concerned. Read Less

As an equine professional operating a hunter jumper boarding, training & showing facility for over 28 years I have had the opportunity to work with many veterinarians both large & small animal in the Ft Myers area, across Florida & the eastern United States, also being active in small animal rescue, & having a house full of animal companions for more than 20 years, I recently found myself in search of a small animal clinic to take over the care of my personal beloved animal companions. After taking my dogs or cats to several other well known/advertised small animal clinics in the Ft Myers area over the past 2+ years, I simply could not find a small animal clinic I felt comfortable placing the care & well being of my beloved animal companions with. Recently I was fostering dogs for a local rescue & was taking the foster dogs to Best Friends Animal Hospital, I was very pleased with the expertise veterinary care, level of compassion, dedication of both Dr George & Dr Black, the entire staff was always friendly, helpful, knowledge & eager to get to know me. Two weeks ago I found myself in a very difficult situation with one of my personal rescue dogs, Best Friends & Dr Black was ready & willing to help me, showing kindness & caring even though I was not actually a client at that time. At that time i decided to make Best Friends my vet clinic to care for all of my small animal needs. Earlier today (7/7/16) I took my older dog with multiple issues in for care after her chronic arthritis left her in extreme pain. The appointment with Dr George was so refreshing & a truly positive experience, her understanding of my older dogs multiple issues, taking time to discuss "quality of life" aspects of care for my dog, as well as taking into consideration my financial budget available for diagnosis & reasonable care for my beloved old dog. The decision to make Best Friends Animal Hospital the veterinary clinic to care for all of my animal companions is a decision that has proved to be a fantastic decision & the care provided in every aspect of the clinic is well worth the extra time to drive to Gateway for me.Read Less

We recently moved to Ft. Myers, and took all 3 of our pets to Best Friends for check ups. Our dog, Rosie, was 14 and had begun to experience "issues," and we ended up visiting Best Friends a number of times over the course of the last 4 months. We had the good fortune to meet all of their veterinarians, and most of the vet techs. We have nothing but the utmost appreciation and respect for this amazing team of caregivers. Our experience, while it was sad in the end (we had to say goodbye to Rosie), was the absolute best it could have been. This group is truly caring, understanding and knowledgeable. Although I liked Dr. Black and Dr. Hernandez, I was greatly upset when I brought my cat to them on two occasions for treatment; it seems to me their office was more interested in my money than what was best for my cat. Within 18 months of spending nearly $400 and what I believe now to be a misdiagnosis, I returned from a weekend away and found my baby was not eating or drinking, and throwing up vile. I was originally told she was in renal failure (which meant little to me at the time) and that the treatment would be about $400 per day and might help to give her more quality time to her life. I had to put her down the next morning because she was in total distress and I was charged $1,293 for one overnight treatment. I was very upset that after being charged $1,293 I lost my cat anyway. Knowing my baby was that close to death, I should have been told there was no hope for her, rather than charging me an excessive amount for treatment that was too late and not going to work. I am seeking a new vet. Read Less

Read Less
