After voicing concerns of my sisters 6 month old puppy having parvo or potentially having injusted a toxic plant and listing off the symptoms they wanted to do blood test then treat. Parvo test was not something they screened for. $2000, 13 hours and moving him to our personal vet later a test was given and with in 10 minutes we were told he was Parvo positive. We are now going into day 4 of treatment at our vets office with strong hopes he will make it but we were taken for our money and more importantly our fur child had to wait almost an entire day for the proper care. Simply because the staff failed to test a puppy for all the signs of parvo even after it was a suggested concern. Read Less

My daughter took her dog a puppy to your place of business last night; she explained the symptoms - this pup was NOT tested for parvo when there was a chance he was positve; he had to wait 18 hours for treatment; then at a vet this am he tested positive! He now has a 50/50 chance when you did all the other testing, x-rays and took her for 1500!!! But never tested for PARVO! Now you have decontaminate your facility. A cheap parvo test should have been done first! And to top it off, she was there for about 5 hours! Not acceptable. Seems like all you wanted to do was run up the bill. Shame on you Shame on YOU! Per recommendation of my Banfield vet, I scheduled an appointment with AVS for my cat who had a cancerous mass on her face. Dr. Herman and staff were very kind to me, especially when I broke down crying because the first cost estimate they gave me was beyond what I could afford (and I thought I could do nothing to save my cat). The nurse, I feel horrible for forgetting her name, handed me tissues and gave me a hug. After some computing they offered me the next best option, which was within my price range. We went through with the surgery and my cat had her stitches out yesterday. Wearing the cone made her sad but that couldn’t be helped. Can’t speak for the emergency services (which I’ve never used), but with scheduled appointments, this place is wonderful. AVS made a traumatic experience for my cat (and let’s be honest, me too!!) as positive as possible. All the staff kept complementing her personality and fur color, I like to think she could feel their good vibes when she was in the back without me. Read Less

I have been meaning to post a review for quite some time but it keeps slipping by me. After our lab Carly ate an entire bar of soap made with essential oils and proceeded to become very ill one night, we had no choice but to take her into an emergency vet. We were thrilled with the care she received while there. The vet was very attentive and thorough, while being loving to our dog. After an overnight stay for treatment, she was discharged the next day and was a new dog. I'm grateful for their services, and for helping us during a very scary event. We wouldn't hesitate to use them again, and will if the need for an emergency vet arises! Read Less

Of course my dog got sick on Christmas Day, so I brought him here due to our vet being closed. I wouldn't have brought him on Christmas Day at all if I wasn't concerned for his life. There were several dogs in the waiting room. I work as a nurse in the Emergency Department, I know and understand wait times can be lengthy. I also understand the triage process. My dog was about 1 and a half and having an acute, life threatening illness. Many dogs were called back before us for chronic issues. Stable dogs that appeared to be content sitting in the waiting room. I know this because I was in ear shot of the front desk for the screening process and I could hear the owners tell the tech who came out to get them. My dog was actively vomiting blood and pooping blood while we were there. And each time I informed the clerk at the front desk. Still they brought back (and not to be mean towards other owners, or state that their problem wasn't a problem) "my dog hasn't eaten in 3 days" or "this patch of skin is itchy" Until I finally burst out in tears stating that my dog was going to aspirate after I had to scrap the blood and sticky saliva out of his throat because he was so dehydrated and was choking on it. Only then did they bring him back. We waited about 2 hours, which felt like an eternity. This is not a complaint about wait time. This is a complaint about the triage process and recognizing acute illnesses vs chronic. And if there isn't a triage process in place, maybe there should be. My dog had to stay the night for fluids and IV antibiotics, and the vet told me when he was being discharged that if he was not treated he would have died. I do think the care they provided my dog was excellent once he was seen. They gave you a sheet of the rounding they do every hour, the medications and the times given and being a nurse, I loved it. My dog came back to me like a new dog. The vets and techs there know what they are doing when they are treating the animals. I would return there if my vet was unable to see me. Read Less

We followed up with our regular vet (Addison Animal Hospital in Lake City) and was told the same thing. The fourth day of illness, after I suggest Parvo, he was tested and supposedly treated, unsuccessfully. A simple test that could have possibly saved our pet's life was not performed by either facility. Money will not bring our fur baby back but I asked Affiliated Emergency Pet Services about reimbursement of the $2000 we paid for Toto's care and was told they would have someone review it. To lose a pet is never easy, but this center made the process a little bit better. Around one in the morning, I had to find somewhere to bring our long time family pet to be put down. The front desk personnel immediately answered and assured me that we could walk right in. Once there, the woman upfront helped me fill out the paper work and was so caring. She listened to my stories and was so sweet while I cried my eyes out. She brought me into the comfort room and minutes later I was allowed to hold my cat. The staff gave me privacy as I was saying goodbye. The veterinarian came in and explained the process of what was going to occur. She walked me through every step and made the actual procedure easy on me and my cat. Afterwards, they allowed me time to compose myself and say my final goodbyes. They all grieved with me and I could see that this is more than just a job to them. They gave me a beautiful box and I was able to take her home. The whole process took a little longer than an hour, but it was filled with such support from the whole team. I wish I had gotten everyones name so that I could thank them all personally. I honestly couldn't imagine any team being any more considerate to me. I will be forever thankful to each and every one of them. I know Mary was thankful too. Read Less

On October 2, 2016 I took our 17yr old Min Pin to Affiliated Pets. He had a lot of swelling in his face that came on quickly. The 6 months leading up to that date he was in and out of our local vets office with many health issues. After talking to the vet, and my husband, we decided it was time to say goodbye to him. The vet, techs, and front staff were very understanding. They handled everything in the privacy of a back room and our vet, Katie, was wonderful through the whole ordeal. I told myself that if I was ever faced with making that difficult decision again for our other animals, then I would take them there. Fast forward to the last week of November. Our 14yr old Pomeranian was diagnosed with IVDD, kidney failure, and bladder cancer. Our vet said to take him home, give him lots of love, and once again say goodbye to another one of our furry family members. On December 4th I took him to Affiliated Pets. Anyone who has ever had to make this decision knows just how gut-wrenching it is. With that said, I walk in with my little guy and sign in. I called ahead but also told the receptionist again why we were there. Immediately I could tell that she was indifferent. I don't expect anyone to cry over the decision I made to put him down. They haven't spent the last 14 years with him. I do however expect sympathy. Not someone who wants to go over the paperwork, that comes along with euthanizing an animal, like I'm buying a car. I'm fighting back the tears while she does this in front of everyone in the waiting room. The moment she decided to tell other patients why I was there- I lost it. She had absolutely no regard for my feelings or keeping the matter private. Not a shred of decency appeared until after I let her know how I felt. Suddenly I'm told I'm very sorry, let me get you in a room. I said we're done here and I left with my little guy in tow. Tomorrow I say goodbye to him at our local vet. It's not broadcasted there. In fact they have a candle in their waiting room with a sign beside it.. it says €When this candle is burning an owner is saying goodbye to their pet. Please speak softly and be courteous during this difficult time.€ Maybe Affiliated Pets could learn something from them. Read Less

We took my boyfriend's cat, Ash, in at 9am. He was having trouble breathing. By the time we got there he was almost dead. They immediately rushed him to the back and all hands were on deck. Dr. Daw did everything he could to bring him back. Before they could ask if we would allow CPR he tried it and didn't charge us. We didn't get the outcome that we hoped and Ash didn't make it. But what really made the difference was that Dr. Daw went the extra mile to figure out what was wrong. He did an x-ray and found out Ash had fluid in his lungs, probably from cancer, and that even if we brought him in sooner, he still might not have made it. I would like to thank Dr. Daw for giving my boyfriend that closure and doing everything he could to save him. It shows that they really care here, not only for the animals, but for the owners, too. So now that I have my dogs ashes safe at home with me, I have to worn you never to go to this vet. We arrived at the vet around 10pm. The staff helped me get our dog onto a stretcher. They wheeled him into a back room and they stopped me from following. They said I wasn't aloud to go into the back room with him. I thought, ok, they will just take his vitals. Then we did all the paperwork and waited...and waited. We were the only customers there so I couldn't understand what was taking so long. While I had to sit there listening to my dog cry out in pain while muzzled, the vet techs and the girl behind the counter were making jokes, playing around, and we're COMPLETELY inconsiderate. My husband and I were pacing the lobby in tears and while they laughed and fooled around. We waited over 45 minutes to see our dog! I could have sat with him and comforted him, but instead, I had only minutes to say goodbye. When they finally brought him into a room, I took his muzzle off and his lips and tongue were so dry. He looked so stressed out. He had nerve pain and insisted on trying to get up. What did they do, tie him down in the back? I know damn well no one sat with him that whole time. After we put our sweet Judge to sleep, all I could hear is everyone still laughing loudly. It boiled my blood. Have a little respect!!! The girl behind the counter was the worst. As we were paying and balling our eyes out, she could care less and thought her jokes to the boy next to her were more important. As we were leaving, she did say, "Oh yeah, sorry about your dog." We own a rescue and have been to so many vets. I will say this one was by far the worst, filthiest, inconsiderate place I have yet to see. These kids need to go back to college and rethink their profession because this is not for them!! Last night as I was picking up his ashes, I saw a vet tech come into the lobby and tell a customer they were ready for her to see her dog. She was able to go back into the room that I was forbidden to go in. I don't know the story behind it. But that made me even more angry. I asked the girl behind the counter if I could get the names of the people that worked the night I was there. She just shrugged her shoulders and said, "I don't know, I just fill in here." Wow...just wow. Read Less

While APES was quick to see our dog on 8/13/16, we got the distinct impression that they were more concerned about how much they could charge us than actually finding out what was wrong with our pet. We made it clear that we were traveling 90 minutes to their clinic but their only comment upon being told that we were on our way was to state that their initial exam fee is $109.00. I was also not very comfortable when they would not do the initial examination of our dog in front of us and instead immediately took her to the back of the clinic. Turns out that our dog had Ehrlichiosis, (something detected within the first 10 minutes by our Vet) which is not very common but can easily be detected with a simple blood smear, which really should have really been an automatic test given that our dog was slightly anemic but showing otherwise healthy organ tests through the blood work. It really did not seem like the attending Vet wanted to give her an IV (to help with her dehydration) unless we left her overnight and only did a fluid pouch and an antibiotic injection when directly asked to do so. Again, the staff was friendly but it seemed like the clinic was more interested in how much money they could collect for their services instead of trying to see what was wrong with our dog and devising a treatment plan. In evaluating this business, I can't complain. Sadly I had a less than favorable outcome, but, the staff were great to me and my little guy. I called for information and to explain the emergency I was about to present them with, we arrived approximately a half hour after my call and we were promptly seen after filling out the intake form. All fees were explained without me having to ask. The physician Dr. Erin Hatcher was great, knowledgable, and informative, she explained everything and went over multiple case scenarios. My little guy was in a great deal of pain, she offered several courses of treatment, needing a moment I stepped outside a moment to think, after coming back in, I asked to speak to the doctor to talk through the decision I was making, she was compassionate and understanding, there was no rushing me. I decided euthanasia was the best option, we went into a room (not an exam room - this room had a sofa and chair) where the technician (Billy - who was also great) brought my dog in and laid a blanket on the floor, and my little guy was brought in, the doctor came in and asked if I wanted some time first or not, and ensured that I wanted to be in the room during the procedure, she was compassionate throughout. All the staff expressed their sympathies and were great overall. Jenna (at the front desk - I believe I'm getting her name right), Billy and Dr. Hatcher all were excellent through this difficult time. Regarding costs, this is an emergency vet, they're not cheap, but to make my little guys pain subside after all other vets offices are closed is something someone shouldn't be placing a price on. Office visit and exam was $94- X-Rays were in the 180-190 ballpark, and euthanasia was 125-150, definitely reasonable for an emergency clinic, as I've been to others in the past that were triple (sometimes quadruple) this cost. I will never, EVER step foot in Affiliated Pet Emergency Services (APES) for ANY emergency veterinary services. If your animal needs immediate after-hours attention, stop reading this and immediately go to the UF Small Animal Hospital. APES is not worth your time or money. They misdiagnosed my dog, which caused a delay in her proper treatment by the more capable veterinarians at the UF Small Animal Hospital. They failed to provide copies of X-rays to me and to my veterinarian, when I was told that both of us would receive a copy. We were told that an office manager could be reached when their office is closed, but when attempting to reach them to obtain the X-ray, no one ever answered the phone/returned calls. When questioning the delay in receiving the X-ray, they claimed that it was their property and releasing records is only a courtesy (State law clearly states otherwise – google Chapter 474.2165(3), Florida Statutes. They are required BY LAW to release records relating to an animal’s treatment. The law specifically includes X-rays.) When they cannot determine the cause of an animal’s ailment, they manipulate their records to cover a myriad of potential prognoses (spanning from gastrointestinal to neurological issues) and do not fully review them with the client. Through a very difficult experience, I learned to avoid this place, and lost my dog because of their incompetence. Forget that you ever heard about this place, and go straight to the UF Small Animal Hospital!!

Read Less
