You told me that this cat had looked like this since Irma, which was in September, and you waited how many months? In addition, the cat was feral so we did the best that we could, we took it in and we looked at it to the best of our ability. The doctor made a judgment on what would be best for the cat. The puss and the smell that came from that cat reaked of infection. For an animal to live that way for 7 months was wrong. You say that we should be ashamed of ourselves, yeah well you should be ashamed of you for letting that go for so long. The staff at Gulfport Vet are amazing! Our "pocket pit" needed emergency surgery for a Pyometra, they took her right in and rushed her into surgery. They did an amazing job and our little Rogue is as good as new if not better. They took wonderful care of her and one of the staff actually went home and cried because she was worried about our baby. I've been coming here for over 20 years. The staff here has been so compassionate to all my pets I've brought in over all these years. My latest is my Cat Storm. He was a stray that I took in the day Hurricane Irma hit here in Fl. He'd been in a fight & we found 5 bite marks on his front leg. Long story short, he lost his leg. Dr. Ohman has been so sweet to storm. Here it is the end of Jan, & she had hung in there with me all this time trying to get him healthy! And now I can say it, he is doing well. I waited for a bit longer than I would have liked, (which sometimes can't be avoided) but all was forgotten/forgiven once I was seen by the vet assistants. They were very personable and helpful. My family has been going here for 18 years and some of the techs have seen me grow up. The place is very tiny and in need of a serious makeover. As others mentioned, the parking is horrible so I always park behind Walgreens when I go. Regardless of whether you have an appointment or not, you'll be waiting hours. I've called two hours in advance before because my dog needed Trifexis. Got there and waited over 30 minutes just to buy it. Some of the techs are nice while others, not so much. The price is good and so is the care that they provide to your pets. However, if you take your pet in for any reason outside of annual shots and there's something wrong with them that they can perceive you as causing, the vets will be extremely nasty to you. I took my dog in about a month ago because she hurt her leg while we were playing and was limping. I have my dog on weightloss food and give her as much exercise as I can, but she's unfortunately not living with me at the moment and my grandma is constantly giving her treats. The first thing that was said to me when I walked in the room was that my dog needed to lose 15-20lbs and when I tried to explain and defend myself, I was shushed and received nothing but a nasty attitude. I was then told that my dog may need surgery if she doesn't lose the weight and was quoted as it being $6K. In another instance, my grandma brought in a stray cat that we thought was ours that had been attacked by something and was missing an eye and etc. The male vet tore into my grandma as well even though she told him that it wasn't our cat. We brought it home and buried it and found my cat sleeping on the neighbours shed. They have been excellent in some situations where I had to put my pets down. My last dog had cancer and we had no idea until the day we had to put him down. I was a mess and they did the euthanasia and cremation for free. Given my last experience we won't be back. This isn't the place for you if you want to be seen within an hour of your appointment and don't want people running through your exam room. However, if you don't mind the aesthetics and wait time and also don't have any issues with your pet other than needing their annuals, this place is great!Read Less

The parking is atrocious. The exam rooms are worn. The wait times are vexing. But the doctors and staff are warm, professional, practical, and real. I've been taking my dogs here for twenty years and only rarely been disappointed in the service. Recently they removed a nasty cyst from my dog's left eye and now that the stitches are out and halo's off I can see what a great job they did, and all for a very reasonable amount of money. This office is a gem, but it's not for the self-important or the demanding. Leave your entitlement pants at the door and just bring in your pooch or kitty. A tip on parking: If the main lot is full, there are a handful of spots across the street, in back of the Walgreens, as well as spots behind the clinic itself. Read Less

Avoid this place like the plague! The front desk staff is unprofessional and incompetent. The place is very dirty. If the front reception area is so dirty where the public waits ages to see a vet, what must the area the public doesn't see be like? I waited two weeks for a call back and never did receive one. I will be taking my dog for her surgery to a cleaner and more professional practice. There are more professional and cleaner vet practices with better prices in Saint Petersburg. This used to be a good clinic. Now they hire these old retired people who don't really know what they are doing. The one vet was out right rude and mean to me and my poor little sick dog. All she wanted to do was order expensive x-rays and medications to jack up my bill. She couldn't even come up with an answer. Yes the place is small, yes there is a wait.. but the prices are extremely reasonable. They have ALWAYS taken care of our fur babies as they were their own. With love and compassion that I've not experienced at much higher priced clinics. Our two a 9lb mix pin mix about 8 years old and a 50lb Aussie mix 13 years old got into something in the trash. They got us in asap and addressed everything quickly with great concern and love. As well our Aussie has had expisodes that he just goes down. None responsive, can't walk, won't eat or drink. I went today with my sister who had to put down a 16-year-old Rottweiler. She had called ahead and confirmed that the vet would come out to the car to do the procedure so we did not have to traumatize the dog any further. The dog could not walk on her own accord and was having spasms. When we arrived we were told that we had to bring the dog in and at the vet would not go out to the car. This decision was made by the business manager. With no input from any medical staff. She would not come to the front desk and would only relay a message through the receptionist. It was though she was going out of her way to make an incredibly tough situation even worse. Fortunately my vet said to bring her right in and took care of it so the dog was not further traumatized. Went with my sister to to help when she was having her 16 year old Rottweiler put down. She called in advance to make sure they could come to the car to do it so not to traumatize the dog further (the 90 pound dog could no longer walk). They told her yes. They would come out to the car. When we arrived we were told we need to bring her in to be put down. I called my vet and took her there where she could go in comfortable surroundings that she recognized. Brooks, Dr. Tallon, Dr. Ohman, Dr. Nichols and all of the techs, assistants and kind people are very caring, excellent professionals. I have been a parent of a pet there for over 20 years. Brooks stood with me as Landis took his last breath. Landis loved Dr. Tallon and even went to see him when the cats were getting their shots. Brooks and Dr. Ohman worked so hard with Marvin on his heartworms and ear infections and MRSA in his cute little right ear. He loves them. I moved out of Gulfport and now live in Tarpon Springs, which is a long drive. But worth it to get the best care at reasonable prices. Their love for animals is priceless. <3 Read Less

I took my dog here one week ago because she was lethargic and not eating. They took her blood and did a physical exam, and the only thing they noted was that her lymph nodes were slightly enlarged. Mind you this was only one month after I had had her in to the same vet for a regular check up with nothing irregular being noticed at all. One week later, my has now dog passed, and they've still not gotten back to me to discuss the results of her blood work. It turns out she had a huge tumor in her chest that was causing fluid to leak into her lungs and put pressure on her heart. I'm not sure the result would have been any different if they had actually caught the disease either at the regular check up, or when I presented her when she felt ill, but I'd like to think she would have had more of a chance. I will never be taking another pet to this vet, and will likewise discourage friends and family from doing the same. Update: Gulfport vet ended finally calling me back about my pet's blood work 10 days after she passed. Unbelievable! While this vet may be fine for routine checkups, NEVER take them if your pet appears seriously ill. Read Less

I have been taking my pets here for over 20 years and, although always crowded, the vets and staff really love animals and are compassionate. I wouldn't consider taking my pets anywhere else. Two of my kitties became very ill (one with cancer and the other with kidney disease), and I had to euthanize them 3 weeks apart in January.....I was devastated. The staff gave Buster and Kiara (and me) TLC up to the very end. I ended up adopting 2 of the office cats from them - Spirit and Doobie. I have been using Gulfport Veterinarian for around three years. I've always been happy with their service and their compassion and concern for my pets. Recently, they went above and beyond even what I had come to expect from them. One of my cats was ill and I had spent an unsuccessful hour trying to get him into his cat carrier for an appointment with GV. I went alone to see if I could at least get some information to help him. While speaking with a couple of the employees, one of them, named Karen, looked at my file and noticed that I lived right around the corner. She offered to come back to my house and fetch my cat. She was able to get him into the carrier and in the process taught me a method that (I hope) will help me corral him in the future. I was having a terrible afternoon and Karen's kindness and willingness to help me in a non-traditional way will stay with me for a long time. I am truly happy to have them as my vet. Read Less

I used to take my one of my dogs here years ago. Once I moved, I had to switch vets because the drive was too far. Now that I moved closer, I decided to make an appointment. The first lady I spoke to set me up with an appointment. I wanted to see if I could get my dog in sooner so I called again to see if there were any cancellations. The women I spoke to this time told me they don't take people who "bounce around". If you are a business who really cares about animals, you wouldn't turn someone down. I have been going to this vet for 20 years, always right on point necessary testing, one time my cat burned her paw on the stove, they rushed me right in on a Saturday, and only charged me for the salve. Ditto on everything everyone else said, about the voice and staff, but worth it. My son's kitten got into a fish hook a few weeks ago, same story, got him right in, had to do stitches, super reasonable. Based on the best reviews that I found, I called this morning. They answered right away, got to the point and had me come right it, the wait was not that long. They're very busy and very organized. They dispensed the tapeworm medicine with no vet visit and no unnecessary testing. Park at the Walgreens two doors down if necessary, that lot is huge. Also, the front office staff tends to be very busy and curt. If you are looking for a feel good vet experience in a new building with a bubbly staff, this is not that kind of place. I like the lady vet more than the older gentlemen vet. They are a super busy place so be prepared to wait. Parking can be a challenge but with their prices it is worth it. Majority of the staff are really nice folks and they help our rescue tons. If you want all of the bells and whistle's and a boutique style vet clinic, this place is not for you.
