My 14 year old dog died about a month ago, and I took him to VCA at around 3am to get cremated. The staff was good. The day that I went to pick up his remaining the staff member that welcome me was nice and she really made me feel like they cared about my loss, she went around the desk and handed me his box instead of just handing him over the counter. But what really made me write this review, is that after almost a month, today, I received a card with their condolences and a paw print of my late dog. I went a few weeks ago for flea meds and waited 2 hours (over one hour in the lobby and almost one hour in the exam room). While most of the staff members were polite and apologetic about the wait, one of them, a young girl with long, dark, straight hair was quite rude and I told her she was being rude. The Dr. who attended to my dog was professional and friendly, so I decided I would give this place another chance, even though I now live 30 minutes away. This time, I made an appointment, so that I would not have to wait 2 hours. I was called in from the lobby within minutes of my arrival, but unfortunately I was stuck in the exam room waiting for the Dr. for 25 minutes. I went back to the lobby to ask how much longer it would be and the same rude girl told the staff member who was assisting me that she would handle me. She then said something to a third staff member, who looked at me in a way that made it clear she had been told I was a problem customer. The rude girl opened the door and chastised me in front of the other customers: she said that I should have stayed in the room b/c they had been "looking" for me and that I had to wait for the Dr. or reschedule--she then called me "sweetie" in a patronizing way (I am twice her age). I told her I did not HAVE to do anything, took my dog and left. As long as that rude girl is there, I will never go back. And that is a shame, b/c I had really liked the vet I met on my last visit (Dr. Hawkins). Read Less

This place used to be owned by the Dee brothers (all vets)., it was the best place in town.... Since VCA took over, it is ALL about money. Everyone works on commission. Take note; this is also a training hospital. You will be assigned a brand new inexperienced vet unless you specifically someone.. If Dr Jon Dee is still there, I recommend him...The pros are there is someone there 24/7, the cons are you might go bankrupt paying this corporation.. Better to find a vet owned clinic. Read Less

My service dog had a case of accidental poisoning, (swallowed 2 tablets of Baclofen a muscle relaxant) I raced to this hospital & asked for the best, most senior vets in critical care as my regular vet (Murphy) had left for a conference. I told them money was no object - just keep her alive. Well, what I got was two newbies. They relied on the ASPCA poison control veterinary toxicologist on the phone for advice (I pay for this service & neither had any experience with this) and she seemed a bit better in 2 days. As she'd rounded a corner, I asked for assistance in setting her up for a 10 min. car ride to the nearby Cooper City Veterinary Specialist Hospital. They refused. Corporate mentality & egos over rode what was best for my little girl. I had been sending them studies by email, researching 24 hrs. a day. Anything to save her life. I read time after time how dogs big & small had been saved. Well, they didn't x-ray her on the evening of Sunday, May14th as promised. Waited till Monday. By then her lungs were both half-filled with fluid & I was told she had aspirational pneumonia. They warned her heart might stop. I had told them to use every measure possible to prevent that & CPR, should it happen. They called to once again ask if I wanted the CPR. As I drove quickly to the hospital, I kept repeating that I wanted all extreme measures used & CPR, of course. I got their call that they tried 3x but failed & she had died, just as I pulled into their parking lot. All they seemed to care about was the bill. It was paid. But now that they have a corporate mentality, as many hospitals purchased by VCA do... I will never go back & would say to anyone... "Avoid them. They're no longer the hospital they were under the Dee family." Read Less

I previously took my dog a few months back due to his eye being completely shut. They did exams and everything and prescribed him medication. Yesterday he was having the same issue so I called and asked if I can just go pick up the medication since everything was in the system and they told me yes. I was there when they opened to avoid having to wait too long. I still waited 30 min for the “prescription to be ready” just to be told that I would have to come back with my dog and see a doctor even though I was told the opposite over the phone. I went to get my dog and waited 30 min after my scheduled appointment time to see a doctor. After complaining an assistant managed to come out to tell me if I just wanted to get the medication or wait for a doctor to exam my dogs Eye. At this point I was very frustrated due to putting my job on the line since I had to miss it to make sure my dog was okay. As I was explaining that I previously came in just to get the medication and they told me I HAD to wait for a doctor to check my dog the assistant walked away. I have never received such poor service. It seems that this place cares more for your money then actually making sure your pet is better. I did not care how much it would’ve came out to because my priority was making sure my dog was better but the lack of professionalism and care they have is ridiculous. I ended up leaving and going to ban field hospital where they took my dog in right away. VCA is a joke. Definitely not worth it. Read Less

I came during emergency hours. Wait time for registration and consultation less than 20 minutes. Staff members were very courteous and professional. The attending doctor was very knowledgeable about my kitty condition and provided with treatment immediately. She looked very much concerned about My kitten wellbeing. We are so grateful to the Veterinarians, veterinary technicians and non clinical staff for affording the superior care and treatment provided to our Chihuahua mix who had sustained a catastrophic, and near life threatening dog bite. Each Veterinarian involved in his care discussed the extent of his injury, the treatment planned, possible outcomes and risks and approximate charges associated with the treatment plan. We received regular calls at home with almost daily updates on his condition while he was hospitalized. We always knew what to expect from the hospital for his care. The responsiveness, professionalism, concern and support far exceeded our expectations. No one could have expected more from a Veterinary hospital for such a critical animal. I also noticed the same level of attention and respect to all patients and their families. We gladly share this review and would recommend VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital to others. I came to Hollywood Animal Hospital unfortunately to have my elderly neighbor's cat euthanized and the staff was very friendly, courteous and compassionate. Darwin at the front counter was very helpful on the phone and in person, and Dr. Mideares was exceptionally wonderful! I was especially thankful for their sacrifice of working on New Year's day. Dr John is OUTSTANDING! My Doberman went in for knee surgery and came out walking as if nothing happened!. Dr John is not only a world class surgeon, but a world class instructor in orthopedic surgery. He literally travels the world training other doctors in his technique. We are SO lucky to have him in our area, and in our reach! I cant tell you how many of my friends took their dogs to another vet for what ever reason, and their dogs limped around for weeks or months after surgery and their recovery was so slow. My Doberman is now 10 years old and has had both her knees done (hereditary bad knees) and is still running at full speed and leaping over 4 foot fences. Awesome! Read Less

Dr. Jodi Heim, DVM at Hollywood Animal Hospital performed a Declaw on my Cat, 1 day procedure, the next Day I picked my cat up I paid for the procedure, I receive a 3 pack 6 mg Feline tabs that I was charge 4, Return home, The pills was for 3 days for pain, my cat was given 1 pill the first day the second day cut the sealed pack open no pill cut the 3rd pack open no pill, the 3 pack only had 1 pill. the pack is aluminum foil so you can't see the pills, I was given a prescription and strict instruction to give my cat 3 pills 1 each day for pain, called Dr. Heim she wound't give me the 2 missing pills I payed 4 so my cat is in PAIN!!!!! that SUCKS SHAME ON YOU Dr. Jodi Heim, DVM SHAME ON YOU...... My mayor dislike of this place is getting someone on the phone. I have called 3 times today to get an update on my dog that was having surgery today and no one came to the phone. Getting an appointment is horrible too, I was asking for an appointment with Dr. Sessa and got no call back as they promised and had to schedule with Dr. Shappiro who turned out as great as Dr. Sessa. Also, its true the seem more concern about getting your payment than attending your pet's needs and at the time of payment the staff are talking among them and charged the wrong amount living a balance due and had to run my credit card twice and pay higher interest rates because of her mistake after I explained to her more than 2 times what she needed to charge...which was the blood tests and surgery (very simple) she was just not paying attention. We took our mixed terrier Foxy to have her stiches removed after she was spayed at the Broward animal shelter. Very happy with the well organized office staff and Dr. Kate Cappe was very attentive. We went back for a follow up same great service. The third time was a sad visit as we had to put our old kittie to rest. Dr. Cappe again was very helpful again. DO NOT GO! I went there with a dog with a bad femur fracture. First they did not treat the dog as an emergency, so we waited for a very long time to be seen. Second and most important they said it's most likely a soft tissue injury and gave us some mild pain medication. 3 days later a much better vet did an X-ray and got the dog into emergency surgery to put the bone back. Maybe it's ok for a vaccine or regular visit, but do not take your pet there if it's serious! Read Less
