I was looking for a veterinary clinic close to home and happened upon the English Plaza Animal Hospital. I had a kitty that wasn't feeling well and they were able to see her on a walk-in basis. Unfortunately, it turned out my kitty was more than just not feeling well, she was dreadfully ill. I was completely unprepared for the awful diagnosis. The staff could not have been more gentle with my kitty or me. They were extremely compassionate and understanding of my shock and utter dismay. I have been going to English Plaza since 2008 when I moved to Homestead. Dr. Prozek was a miracle worker and we really miss him. However, the new English Plaza after Dr. Prozek's retirement is still excellent. The staff are friendly, and competent. They make you feel at home as soon as you walk in. The new doctors are excellent. If I could make a suggestion - not a complaint - it would be to find a way where the same doctor would be there every day. I loved Dr. Prosek but since he retired it went down hill. How could there not be a vet at 3 pm on a weekday (not the first time, it was the norm). We could have saved our Chloe but time was of the essence and by the time I found a surgeon it was too late. I will never take my pets there again. I spent so much money there, I treated my dogs like my children. I suggest Homestead Animal Hospital or Animal Emergency Clinic of South Florida. Read Less

I have been going to English Animal Hospital for over 20 years and have had many many animals. Since Dr. Prosek retired and sold the business it has gone down hill with no regard to longevity of a customer. I recently had foot surgery and am not able to stand on my foot. My dog has a swollen leg and I called to see if they could take her in for the day, diagnose the problem and let me know. They said they could not do that. I needed to be there in person. They would not call me and discuss. Dr. Prosek would never treat a long time customer like this...we are not mainstream Miami... this is Homestead...small town people concerned for people. Horrible place. I went in for a $25 vaccine for one cat and the bill was $118. They trimmed the nails for the cats which they didn't tell me there was a charge of $16 per cat! So $50 for nail trimming, $22.50 office visit fee, $7 waste fee. My dog has hip dysplasia and had been given a script for this establishment about a year ago for pain. We ran out and I came to ask for a refill. He was in a lot of pain and couldn't walk. The vet denied the refill because the dog hadn't been seen in a year. I asked to speak to him and was told no. I said I would wait and I was told he would not speak to me. I asked for four pills to get him through the weekend and I would bring him in Monday as I am unable to carry him. They said take him to the emergency vet. We have 10 animals and spend a fair amount of money at this vet monthly. No more. Don't take your animals to this vet. This new ownership is terrible. Read Less

New Owners bring New Prices with them! Boy, do they believe in gauging! One of my dog's medicines (Mometamax) runs $21. They charged us $70. My husband didn't notice it until he arrived home. After speaking with the manager, she agreed to price match; however, we have to print out the $21 price from its source page and bring it to them, be refunded the $70, and then be charged the $21. Also, supposedly there is a Florida Law that requires the Veterinarians to charge clients for needle disposal. I'm from Georgia, where such laws do not exist, so I am just relaying the information from the manager and secretary. So, to dispose of your dog's yearly vaccination syringe, they charge you. Lastly, my dog has a questionable growth on her ear. Instead of removing it and testing it, they informed us that this procedure was "a surgical operation" and that we would need to make a separate appointment, which I'm sure involves a separate check in fee. Since we happen to be visiting Georgia relatives this weekend, we are taking our dog to a vet we trust one who does not call the removal of small growth, a "surgical operation" with an assumed "surgical" price tag!Read Less

aweful service since the ownership change. no dr on call today till 9 & the facility won't fill my script that they have on file unless the dr sees my dog and I pay the office fee. I got there at 7. a woman in front of me needed to have her sick dog seen by the dr. oh well. wait till nine. last Saturday I went over and was told that no more customers would be taken till after lunch hour... with two Drs on duty. for an office visit to fill a script. a script that they wrote previously. and I just had my dog in for her annuals in late February. it's insane. had to call a dozen times, on more than one occasion, to get my regular scripts filled at 1800 pet meds. English plaza kept telling me the dr was too busy too sign scripts... or they never received the fax request from 1800 pet meds. BS. I am moving my dogs, currently three, to another vet. today. I hope others do the same. btw the prices have been hiked over 30% in some cases & they are modernizing the credit card & billing technology... I've used this place 3 times in "time crunch" situations where I absolutely had to get one of my foster dogs vetted and no other options were available to me. None of the experiences were pleasant. The first time, the vet (who looked to be 14 years old) attempted to vaccinate my foster dog, and when she stuck the needle in my dog, she went too hard and must have hit bone. With no exaggeration, my dog was shrieking in pain and the needle came out bent at a 90 degree angle! My most recent visit was today. I am now aware that they changed owners. From my experience today, I can advise that you avoid this place like the plague. I brought in my latest foster dog for a routine heartworm test. From past experience at other animal hospitals in the area, I expected this to be a ~$40 visit. I nearly dropped my jaw when they charged me $88. This included $30 for a "vet exam" that never even happened. The vet did not exam my dog at all. 2 vet-techs handled him and drew blood, taking all of 2 minutes for us in the room. The only thing the vet did while he was in the room was ask for clarification if my dog was 14 weeks old or 14 months old (side note: I'm sorry, but any respectable vet should be able to tell the difference between a 14-week old puppy and a grown dog!) The vet did not so much as touch the dog, so he certainly didn't give the dog an exam. Back to the bill...even when I told the receptionist that we did not have an exam, she shrugged it off and said something about charging that to every patient. That's scary to see that they are comfortable charging clients for services they haven't actually provided. I received a copy of the receipt and saw that the heartworm test was an outrageous ~$60 alone! Within minutes of my being swindled out of nearly $90 for this fantasy vet exam and outrageously overpriced heartworm test, the vet tech comes out and says "bad news, the dog is heartworm positive". I was ready to cry at that point, thinking about the cost to the non-profit rescue to get him through the treatment, and having to delay the adoption I had lined up for him for next weekend. Then the vet tech goes "I'm just kidding, he's negative". I'm sorry, but how unprofessional to joke about medical test results, even if it is "just a dog"!!!!!. This place is HORRID! Bad business practices to rip off customers. DO NOT USE THEM! I highly recommend Redland Animal Hospital for compassionate, quality care. English Plaza is the pits. Read Less

The staff at English Animal Hospital were all amazing!! I brought my grandmother's dog in after she was attacked by another dog. I came into the hospital in a complete panic; crying, hyperventilating, gagging, the works. The staff went into action immediately!!! They took her to the back right away and began working. The were empathetic, understanding, caring, and tried their best to calm me down. This place is horrific! I brought my dying dog in there at 3:45 PM and at 6:15 the girl came out to inform me that the doctor was not going to see my dog because they are closed and they can't do bloodwork anyway, just go to the emergency vet. The doctor herself never came out at all. And they made me wait with my dog instead of sending me away earlier to find help for him. The doctor's name was Dr. Beg. Thursday 06/11/2015, my friend brought his rat terrier Mochita to English Plaza Animal Medical Center for vomiting bile and was immediately diagnosed with a piometra or uterine infection, underwent surgery, was billed $700.00 and was picked up the next day. He was told that she was okay, just had a poor appetite. Upon coming home, she began vomiting bile again. She was returned to the hospital and he was told she needed hydration. Saturday 06/13/2015, he returned to EPAM to pick her up and began vomiting bile again at home. Monday 06/14/2015 at 0700, she was taken back to EPAM with profuse emesis. He was told, that further analysis would be made as well as X-ray, with another $400.00 in fees for additional services. Approx. 2 hours later, he was called to be given another diagnosis of pancreatitis. Unfortunately, it was a late diagnosis and she passed away on Tuesday 06/16/2015 at 1400. The veterinarian who attended my friend's dog was alleged to be more versed in studies, then experienced with dogs. My friend mentioned that the young female veterinarian had incompetencies that prevented the accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment that could have prevented her death. My friend had such an uncomfortable and negative experience with the services he received at EPAM and would like to discourage others from having to feel what he has felt becasue of their negligence and the punitive damages of the emotional anguish of losing a loved one.Read Less

Conveniently located. That's the best I can say. I brought my dogs in for booster shots and immediately the vet informed me that my Australian border collie mix had liver disease because he had pale gums (she didn't seem to notice his hip dysplasia). I informed her that he had pale gums and lips since birth (he was 12 at the time). She insisted on a blood test and it took 3 technicians to hold him down so she could get her sample. Then she told me he had iron - poor blood, which I suspected was do to a poor blood draw, and I should leave him for x-rays, scans, and maybe an exploratory surgery (thousands of dollars). When I said I couldn't do that financially she warned that he had "at most" 3 months to live. She never even offered information for an option to euthanize a 12 year old dog. Again I refused and took my dogs home. My dog lived for another 3 years and 3 months before I had to take him back to this clinic for euthanation. This was my first time back (I didn't trust them to perform any other procedure). She didn't remember me and while performing the end of life procedure again looked at his gums and asked "does he have liver disease?" That seemed like such a pointless question at that point in time. I told her that she said the same thing 3 years earlier when she told me he only had 3 months to live. "I'm glad he lived so long," was all she said. I, too, am glad he lived so long and I don't think he would have after receiving a battery of unnecessary surgeries, exams, and procedures. I have NO trust for this clinic and believe their principle concern is financial and not for the concern of either the pets they treat or the families that own them. Read Less

cheap and fast but the young blonde girl who works the office is kind of clueless, she didn't know how to do simple math when showing me the bill and couldn't even tell that that I had a cat and thought it was a dog which worries me. I was there to pick up my pet from surgery and the staff was a bit rude to me and helped every other customer in front of me even though I was there first. They didn't even say bye or thank you or give me instructions on how to take care of my pet before I left. If I tried to ask them any questions they acted like I was bothering them and gave me very short answers with attitude. They need to work on better customer service and try being friendlier! I am writing this as a warning to ANYONE with an emergency. The office appeared to be friendly and compassionate when I took my dog in on an emergency in February 2012. The office treated him and sent him home with medication the first bill was $1300. Less than a week later I had to return with him for the SAME EXACT situation. This time I was informed the treatment the doctor had given my my dog a week prior was indeed the WRONG treatment!! They informed me the NEW treatment they needed try in an attempt to get him through the night. The new treatment would be ANOTHER $1100!!! Needless to say I paid the bill and my dog did not make it through the night, He was put to sleep shortly after I dropped him off for the second time. I have been trying to contact the office manager "Kim" to discuss the bill but she has refused to take any of my calls always advising the person answering the phone to say she is with a "client". I am extremely disgusted that in today's economy this office will not take into consideration the hardship this bill caused me and the fact that my dog did not make it is even harder to deal with. I was charged over $130.00 for medication my dog did not take, I never even had the opportunity to bring them home. I was charged for "misccellaneous" services totaling over $200.00. I was hoping the office would re-evaluate the bill since it totaled over $2,300 and the dog did not make it. I am positive that if they wanted to the office could have actually excused some of the procedures I was charged for but instead they refuse to come to the phone. I am strongly urging any pet owner that loves their pets the way that I do please do not use this office. The office will not work with you should the bill exceed what you can actually afford. They will however offer you a finance payment plan that will drag out the expense and charge interest should you not have the funds immediately available. Please do not fall victim to the appearance this office presents on first appearances. I fully understand that when you bring an animal in for emergency services there is a chance they may not make it out however, the office should also take this into consideration when an owner asks for just a small amount of assistance with the overall total bill. i was shocked at the shameful lack of compassion displayed by this heartless facility. i adopted my cat, sammy, from a rescue organization 11 years ago. sammy has been an indoor cat ever since. about a week ago she slipped out, unnoticed while my husband and i were unloading groceries. hours later we realized she was gone. we found her in the wheel well of our car. she had been viciously attacked by an animal and was near death. we brought her to english plaza. they examined her and told us they would treat her for $600.00, C.O.D. like so many people in these trying financial times, we did not have an extra 6 hanging around. i said we will give a substantial downpayment and negotiate a payment plan. we were sitting in the waiting room while sammy was bleeding and torn up when they turned us down. this is not a major urban area. it is a small south florida community. my husband & i are both locally, gainfully employed. in fact we are employed in a business that is frequented by the owner of this sad, shameful animal mill. all it would have taken was a simple background check and an official bank payment plan to save this animal's life. English Plaza is simply the best vet office! My family and I have been going there for over 12 years due to their kindness, honesty, and extremely fair prices. Dr. Prosek is gentle and kind with my dog and cat and genuinely loves the animals he takes care of. When my dog sees him she runs through the office door to get to him! I recommend him to all my friends; many of them have switched over to him as their regular vet. The best part is the price; English Plaza has the MOST reasonable prices. I have read the comments, and I am a little worried. leave my dog with a broken leg, and the first day I saw the girls very loving with my dog. But now, I'm not sure. Call asking for someone and I was not treated with kindness by the staff. I was well treated with good care by a girl who speaks Spanish, but other staff do not feel that they treat people with the ethics that should, as people leave there, the animals we love, trusting that should be treated with the best care. When I first went to this Vet, I thought ""wow, what a great place!"" Until you have an emergency. My dog started to have puppies the first pup came out fine. The second pup, came out backwards and got stuck in the birth canal. Finally managed to get the 2nd pup out but it was dead. Rushed my dog to the Vet and I knew she was going to need a c-section. Left the one pup and the Mom with the Vet. I was told ""don't worry call us in a few hours, we take care of everything."" I was really on edge so I called as soon as I left and told them to please make sure the one puppy is eating often. After 10-15 minutes without eating, a puppy just born dies. I wasn't given any reassurance and right there I should have gone back. But, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Mind you, I've been going to this Vet for the last 2 years. Thirty minutes passed and I had to call again, to see if she had gone into surgery. When I call I was told ""we've been trying to reach you, your phone is disconnected"". I told her impossible, I've had the same # for the last 12 years and I'm calling you from the same # you just read back to me??!!! She begins to argue with me and insisting that my phone is disconnected??!! Then she tells me, make sure you bring $700. Told her money is not an issue, just please take care of my Dog! I didn't care about that right now; I wanted to know about my dog. So, they tell me they couldn't go into surgery until they had a signed consent to do the surgery. I was beside myself; I couldn't believe this was happening! I just left and wasn’t asked to give consent. They knew she needed surgery and they just blew me off. I was about 20 miles away; I was flying thru the streets to get to my dog so I could sign the consent. After all this time I knew all the puppies will be dead and now possibly the Mom too. Got there gave consent and paid $700. Told the girl to call me right now to check the phone # was correct. Showed her my phone and the # they had for me was right. She blew me off and didn’t give me an apology or any emotion of concern. I've never been treated so horribly. Finished with the surgery and basically all 5 puppies had died, even the first one that I asked to make sure he ate. Thank God, they didn’t kill my Dog too. That whole experience has left me traumatized. I'm currently seeing a lawyer and I will be taking this Vet to court. You can't have incompetent, careless, uncompassionate, people handling people's pets. For basic care this Vet is ok. But, DO NOT GO TO THIS VET WITH AN EMERGENCY. They just don’t care! Read Less

I went to the Vet at about 2:30 on Saturday. My American Bulldog had a restricted airway fro an unknown allergic reaction. They had closed at 2pm,but took her in. I saw the after after hours vet. She was verynice and very concerned. Her assistant who happened to be her husbandwas very helpful. She gave my dog a shot and gave her IV fluids. If notfor their expertise my dog could have died. I don't think of it as that bad like people say. My experience was going into there with my guinea pig, and they gave me medication for it, and my guinea pig is perfectly fine today. Although I dislike not being able to see the vet and having them take her in alone. They cut her nails for her, too. I like this vet. So far so good. Everybody's a critic! >.> Read Less
