Sasha had a minor cut, as we did not have an appointment they work us in right away and assured us it was a minor injury. Sasha has a few stitches but she is good as new. If I could put ZERO stars I would. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY....THAT IS ALL THEY WANT. I went in for an X-ray for my 11 1/2 year old lab that has been in a lot of pain. X Ray was requested by another vet...well $900.00 later, tons of blood work, Over $300 in x rays, get this $7.50 to WRITE a prescription for pain for my lab, AND SHE NEVER PUT A QUANTITY ON IT, so my baby was in pain all weekend! She gave him electrolytes to a tune of $27.23 (not sure what for)....I could go on and on. I went in there so upset, thinking I was having to put down my lab if the X ray was not good....Dr. Maxwell took such advantage of me I can't tell you. She doesn't have a compassionate bone in her body.....never once smiled, pet my baby, nothing. She was on a mission with me and I got screwed! DON'T GO THERE!!!!!! STAY AWAY.....If I could give a zero star I would. MONEY HUNGRY IS PUTTING IT MILDLY..THEY MUST BE DESPERATE FOR BUSINESS. Dr. Maxwell is the most unprofessional vet I have ever met and has NONONONO compassion at all. I was referred to her for an X RAY of my 11 1/2 year old LAB in severe pain. Well $900.00 later and much testing that was absolutely not necessary. Now we are home, my lab is in severe pain and crying since we got home and guess what. PRESCRIPTION CANNOT BE FILLED AS SHE DID NOT PUT A QUANTITY ON IT!!! So being that it is Saturday, Stewart will be crying all weekend. I am seriously thinking of taking this further. I recently purchased two Maltese dogs and took them to Dr. Anna Maxwell at the Ark Animal Hospital where my dogs were examined and treated quite well for their initial visit after purchasing the dogs. Last week I took my two dogs again to have them neutered. I was incredibly impressed with the facility and Dr. Maxwell who exhibited a great deal of love and compassion for animals and my dogs. She called me over the weekend to check up on my dogs and ensure that they were recovering well. I will not take my dogs any where else except to Dr. Maxwell who is very professional, kind, thoughtful and compassion. I am so happy I chose Ark Animal Hospital and Dr. Maxwell as my veterinarian. From the first phone call to schedule the appointment I was very confident with my decision. Jill answered all my questions and was able to schedule my appointment to fit my busy schedule. On my first visit I found the hospital to be very comfortable and my baby was greeted by his name. The reception area has a television and I was offered water while I waited (the wait was not long, as I arrived early for my appointment). After meeting the technician, Codie, my baby was put at ease and had fun playing with the toys in the exam room. Dr. Maxwell came in and gave "Echo" a full exam and explained everything I needed to know about the care of my puppy. She is a wonderful doctor and I am happy to have met her. Hip Hip Hooray! I love your groomer! As a "parent" of Persian cats for MANY years, I have found that all groomers are not created equal - especially with the challenges a feline can bring. How is Anna Maxwell even a vet? How can someone so heinous, miserable, rude and horrible work with animals and even more so, WHY is anyone trusting their pets with this woman?????? There is no way this woman cares about your animal. She is only interested in your money, which is Obvious by the bribery they provide of you write them a good review. They will give you $5 whole dollars for a proven 5 star review. We met with this awful woman one time for a routine wellness and senior arthritis visit. She never once looked at our dog. She was so gruff and rude the dog literally hid in the corner cowering from Maxwell the entire visit. After 10 minutes of her questions and snide comments regarding our dogs health (which was perfect other than a little arthritis, the dog even has sparkling white teeth) she sent her tech in to finish our appointment and while standing in the doorway of the exam room she said "Muzzle that damn mutt". MUZZLE??? The dog was COWERING in the corner with face buried hiding from this beast of a human. HOW is this woman still in business? The arthritis treatment plan we were quoted was $35 per visit but two days later the receptionist called and told us "After Dr. Maxwell reviewed her notes, she's decided your weekly treatment will be $175 PER VISIT". i clarified with the receptionist who sheepishly confirmed. Really didn't like the fact that they gave my puppy medicine with out letting me know before hand even if it's something as simple as a chewable for fleas and ticks. Should of asked me if it was okay because it is my pet . Also I didn't appreciate the Vets attitude when I voiced my concern with my new puppies health even if I'm just overthinking it don't mock me and yes this is the doctor I'm talking about! My dog Cadillac was very sick and would not eat or drink, I took him to Ark and the Dr. was very committed to helping find the cause of his illness. The entire team was very thorough in their diagnostics, kept me updated and took such great care him. They communicated with me in his treatment and were dedicated to getting him well. When I dropped him off he had no energy, when I picked him up today I had my boy back! The team kept me informed the entire time and were dedicated to caring for my pet. My wife and I took our new puppy, Harley, in for her free visit after purchasing her from puppy avenue. We found the staff extremely friendly and knowledgeable. However we've had a couple follow up visits because she developed pneumonia and then a fever, and found that the cost of care is very high so we've unfortunately had to look at other vets in the area. The only other chief complaint is that you aren't in the room with your pet when they receive treatment. Dr. Delucia & both techs that we've had (I'm sorry I'm awful with names) were fantastic. They even did what they could to alleviate some of the financial burden. In summary I would say this is an amazing place that takes great care of your pet, but be prepared to pay a little more than most other animal hospitals in the area. Read Less

Took my dog here out of convenience for yearly vaccines. The staff is really friendly, however they try to pedal you every product imaginable, cost of services (I found) to be at least twice as much as other vets in the area, they take your pet to a separate room to check up/vaccinate (so your not seeing what's going on), a few weeks after vaccinations my dog began having seizures, and now has trouble walking. Sure it cold be old age and other contributing factors, but it sure is bad timing with proximity to initial care. Also returned to have my dog examined after his seizure, they did what they said was "more comprehensive blood work" then the blood work that was done a few weeks prior.... blood work and x-rays my bill was over $700! Then they called a few days later to recommend a antibiotic that was over $200 they recommended I neuter my dog... their cost... over $700, but went down to $669 since I had recent blood work. The single worst place to ever being your animal. If you truly love your pet, you will not bring them here. My dog nearly died just getting a shot, and then they try to squeeze every penny they can out of you, pricing everything 2 or 3 times more than the price of other vets in the area. The only reason I am giving them 3 stars and not 4 is the prices. This is a very friendly and personal vet office. I've taken my pug here on more than one occasion and each time the staff was extremely friendly, helpful and personable.On this occasion I took the pug here because he eye turned blue. I immediately panicked and called the office, and they were to scheduled me for a visit the next morning. Diagnosis - a deep ulcer Anyways they have him a few antibiotics, eye drops, the cone of shame, and of course the pet bill from hell!  Oh an a follow up appointment for two days later( which I had to pay for). After that initial follow-up and it appeared that his eye was responding well to the medication, I cancelled the subsequent visits, because really the bills where stacking up.  However, I do love how they still reached out to me a week later to check on my little guy.Overall if you can afford their price points, it's a great practice to consider. I went to this animal hospital first with my new puppy from Puppy Avenue because the first vet visit was free. I guess what bothered me the most was that I wasn't able to see what they were doing with my dog because they took him behind the counter/door and placed a flea and tick medication on him while examining him... supposedly. After all was said and done, they gave my dog a clean bill of health. Awesome. Not really. The next day my dog was coughing and sneezing. I called Ark to tell them and they said it would be a $70 visit fee. So thinking that this was unacceptable the day after I received a clean bill of health, I decided to go to another vet. Upon going to the other vet: 1) My dog wasn't healthy - he had an upper respiratory infection. 2) They said they put a topical flea/tick medication on him but he ended up having fleas a week later! Unreal. Update: After leaving this review, a Dr. Maxwell called me to pick a fight with me. Sounded like she had zero intentions to apologize or help with the issue. We have a very sick kitty who, when we found him, was only given 3 to 5 years to live due to a congenital heart defect. He was seen by a cardiologist who put him on heart medication twice a day. When he turned 3 years old, he started to become very symptomatic and started to have trouble breathing. His breathing got so labored that we made an appt for someone to come to the house and put him down and end his suffering. We ended up making a last minute decision and took him to Dr. Maxwell to see if there was anything else that could be done. 2 months later, Pickles is doing great! After going to the same vet for 8 years, I recently switched to Ark. I was looking for a second opinion on my dog's skin issues and was only being given steroids with not much explanation. I was impressed that in my first visit that the Dr. was able to get to the bottom of my dog's rash and gave me alternatives that finally gave him (and I) relief. Ark Animal Hospital on Philips Hwy is the best animal hospital in Jacksonville! They have been taking care of my dachshund, Mocha, for years. I actually followed Dr. DeLucia there from her previous clinic because of her knowledge and skill set. I know that Mocha will always receive the best care when I bring him in. He isn't the friendliest dog, but the staff handles him with care and understanding. They are a compassionate and knowledgeable group of people who really care for the animals they treat and the customers who bring them in. I recently dropped my 2 dogs off to stay one night and get both of their shots. When I came back the next day my bill was over $650.00. We have since contacted the clinic and Dr. Maxwell has given us a credit of $143. even though she can't say why the charge was so much. As I asked her if she would pay or complain about getting her oil change for $500.00 she wouldn't answer. She is truly condescending and will charge you for every she can get away with. This is the second time we have had our animals stay over night and both times our animals were dirty and extremely over heated. Please be very careful when going to this office. Read Less

We will not be going back. I was hoping it would be a nice place because it was close to home but we got the worst service ever. They don't return phone calls when my dog had a negative reaction to a med they prescribed. They finally called when I called to cancel my appointment a day later. They reexamined my dog and said they would call over the weekend to see if she was having a better reaction. No follow up at all. Absolutely terrible!!! But at least they consult with another doctor who was better versed in her issue. Oh and they gave her a couple treats. Other than that never going back.Read Less

I had appointments for two dog groomings in November 2015 and had all shot records from previous vet emailed/faxed over to Ark.  My dogs are groomed every 2 months where we used to live. I was charged not only for grooming each dog, a 16 and 22 lb mix, but they needed complete check up and shots all over again.  I can see bordetella every six months.  However, $400.00 later and they continued to call about "teeth brushing" for both dogs, not happening.Made an appointment again for grooming both dogs since the shock of the shots and check ups were over and was told that they needed "adult checkups" now!  They had their last check up 3 months ago.....whats up with this business?  Guess what, you lost some revenue! WHOOOOO! Don't even get me started talking about this place. The only reason we can here in the first place was because we had a free visit through Puppy Avenue. The initial visit was fine. Sherlock was a great puppy in ideal heath with his first round of shots. So just based on convenience, we decided to get him neutered here as well.Well, i don't remember the number but it had to be over $350 for his neuter. So you would think that with paying that much money they would give us good advice especially because we were new puppy parents. We dropped him off that morning and they called us after his surgery was done. I didn't pick Sherlock up, my fiancé did. He came home and I was surprised that Sherlock didn't have a cone on his head. Jimmy said they didn't recommend it but if he started to mess with it just to tie a shirt around him so he won't take out his stitches. We the first day was fine he slept through it because of the meds. Day two, I come home to check on him at lunch. The area was kinda red like he had been trying to mess with it. So, at doctor's instruction, I tied a t-shirt around him which was not easy to do. I came home 5 hours later after i got off work. He had wiggled out of the shirt and pulled out his stitches. I was livid and hysterical. Why didn't we have a cone? We decided to take him in the morning to get it taken care of. When I called in the morning after I had rearranged my work schedule to get there early, they said they couldn't guarantee they could get to him. I drove there anyway. Honestly, they laughed at the situation. To me, this was not a laughing matter at all! They took Sherlock back, said that there wasn't any infection and the glued up his incision. At that point I requested a cone and asked why they didn't suggest it. They said "most parents don't like it."  I realize that it is annoying and uncomfortable for my dog but they are for his own protection from hurting himself. Not to mention that if they had put a cone on him in the FIRST PLACE, I wouldn't have had to waste and 1.5 hours of my morning and pay $20 extra for the dumb glue. Not to mention the stress. they didn't charge for the consultation and they said that was a courtesy. And they said it like they were doing me a favor, not as if they did anything wrong in the first place.We will never go here again. I called to get some information about a surgery for my pup and they were so rude. They were condescending and spoke to me like I was an idiot. When I asked for a price range not even an exact number they wouldn't answer my question. They said I had to come in for a $60 consultation before they would tell me. I came home and found my dog ate glass. I went to my vet but they wanted to do an expensive surgery. My neighbor recommended Ark Animal Hospital. I was able to see the Dr Maxwell right away. They took x rays of Duke and I could see the glass. Dr. Maxwell gave me several options that fit my budget. After 2 days the glass passed and we did not have to do the surgery. After many years of going to Animal Ark Hospital it was time to call it quits. Dr. Maxwell appears to think no estimates are necessary when treatments are concerned, unless you specifically ask for them. I have a problem with that because insurance is not involved and all expenses are out-of-pocket and must be paid when your pet is picked up. Since nobody at this animal hospital knows a customer's annual income it appears to me common sense would prevail and a consultation with the pet owner on costs, other than we will do this or that should occur. She also indicated our pet would suffer, even when I told her we are going to another vet for treatment. I suppose no other vet is capable of giving good care to our lovable animal! Read Less

I just purchased my puppy from Puppy ave and I received a free visit from Ark Animal Hospital. I have a regular vet but I went any way. Kesha was very helpful answered all of my questions and gave me handouts so that I would have information to read at home. Dr. Maxwell was very through and explained all that was done and what I could expect on the next visit. Lastly April was especially helpful. She went over the discounted vaccine packages available. Money hungrey! I am a first time dog owner, so I needed to do a lot of research before buying my puppy. This was the vet he had already been to once, so I decided to continue; however, one bad experience after another and I've decide to go somewhere else. First, when I asked the vet or vet tech questions on our first visit they simply gave me a brochure instead of explaining anything to me. Second, we gave him Frontline for flee prevention, but he got flees and I talked to the vet and she just insisted that I need to be consistent with the Frontline, which I am. She did not offer a solution or another preventative. I had to go home and do the research myself. Third, and maybe not extremely significant, but when asked what kind of food I give my puppy I said Eukanuba (this was what he started with, but we are changing to Blue Wilderness). The vet said how wonderful Eukanuba is, eventhough I've done the research and it's not. Fourth and finally, I took my puppy to get his vaccinations and each time they asked if he was on heartworm prevention. Even though on the second visit they gave him a ProHeart injection. Each vet tech tried to sell me ProHeart, even insisting that my puppy couldn't have possibly been given it yet because he's not 6 months old. The last time we visited was when he was to be neutered. When I called for an update they asked about heartworm prevention AGAIN. This animal hospital is so set in the products they are getting money for that they don't care about the animals' health. My dog Milo was very sick and treated at another hospital and did not get better. On advice from my neighbor, I went to Ark Animal Hospital for a second opinion. They were able to do tests right there in the hospital, figured out what was wrong and came up with a treatment plan that I could do at home instead of keeping in the hospital. When I took my new puppy for her first visit today I was happy UNTIL I went into the exam room... I asked many questions about food brands and preventatives and though the vet (who s name I didn t catch because she never introduced herself) responded, the responses seemed uneducated. The vet said no one food, or preventative is better than any other... (seems like a crazy thing to say I wonder if she feeds her pets an Alpo special???) I started thinking at that point that this visit was a mistake. THEN when she went to check my sweet puppies temp she used a thermometer WITH OUT using a disposal cover.... It all happened so quick but want a unhealthy thing to do to my new puppy... My pup was also microchiped at the visit. This microchip was supposed to be free ( I bought my pup at Puppy Avenue) well when I went to check out they wanted to charge me $17.99 to register the chip. I told them that the microchip was included when I bought my puppy but they insisted that I pay them. Lucky for me I changed purses this morning and my debit card was in my other purse so I was going to have to call to pay them and pay. I decided when I got in the parking lot to google homeagain microchip phone number and gave a call. They informed me that there was no registration fee and set my pups microchip up. Beware of this place! Even if you get a free first visit if you bought your new pup in the mall think twice or just be on your toes, and make sure they use a darn cover on the thermometer!!! I just want everyone to know how great the doctors are at Ark Animal Hospital. I was visiting family in Jacksonville when I noticed Lily had blood in her urine. I did not know the area and my friends said that if you want the best care to go to Ark Animal Hospital. I called and they took Lily in right away and within an hour they had diagnosed bladder stones. Lily had the surgery that afternoon and went home the same day. I just want to thank every one at Ark Animal Hospital for taking care of my kitty. She was very sick and had to stay at the hospital for over a week. She was fed every 2 hours with a feeding tube until we could get her to eat. They let us come to visit her any time we wanted for as long as we wanted. I just want to thank everyone at Ark Animal Hospital. I just had Gator in for surgery and it was the best experience. The receptionist explained all of the forms I filled out. The technician Katie called me when they started the surgery and when Dr. Maxwell was done. When I picked Gator up, Dr Maxwell went over everything that was done and explained what I needed to do for gator at home to make him comfortable. I had my cat Bo Bo’s surgery somewhere else and it was more like a drive through. I dropped my cat off and picked my cat up. No one went over anything except the receptionist said to give the meds for a week. Everyone at Ark Animal Hospital cared not only Gator but also for me. I just took my dog to Ark Animal Hospital to have a mass removed. The whole experience was great. The receptionist went over all of my options before surgery, the technician called me when we started the surgery and the doctor called after the surgery. I really appreciate being informed about my pets condition throughout the day. When I picked him up, Bo Bo was very happy to see me. Dr. Maxwell explained everything that I need to do at home. I have taken my cat to another hospital for surgery and they treated me like a number. No one called; no one explained anything to me. I just had my first visit at Ark Animal Hospital with Dr. Maxwell. She went over every thing about both of my dogs health. Recomended dentals for both Bosco and Tara. What was especially nice was she gave me some hints on how I can save money by using over the counter products. My other vet always wanted me to buy their products. This holiday season was very stressful for my family. We had a death in the family and had to leave suddenly. Ark Animal Hospital was able to accommodate our pets at short notice. They were also able to take care of the vaga who needs special attention. She suffers from seperation anxiety and had never been boarded before. I took my mokie there for boarding. Because I am new the receptionist and the staff made me feel better about leaving him. Later that evening, I got an e-mail from Dr. Maxwell about my Mokies exam report card and photos of my mokie. What really impressed me was they found thing that my normal vet never told me about.
