The great veterinary find is proof that Yelp can help you locate more businesses than just restaurants. I was frustrated and exhausted with long waits, over-pricing, and mediocre vet services elsewhere. So when one of my dogs needed a same day appointment recently, based on the reviews, we called Brentwood Animal Clinic and had an appointment within the hour. The clinic was easy to find, clean, and comfortable. The staff were all so helpful, professional, and friendly from the receptionist and vet technicians to the awesome doctor. I felt my baby's needs were addressed immediately and thoroughly. Everyone here really cares about our pets. Not only were the services outstanding, but the prices affordable. I was super impressed and with confidence will be using this great clinic for both my dogs and my cats from now on.

We are traveling and our Yorkie started itching frantically. Even though it was Saturday, we were told to come on in and were greeted by a very friendly staff and quickly were taken in to see the doctor after only ten or fifteen minutes even without an appointment. The staff and the doctor were very accommodating and diagnosed our issue and got our little girl feeling good quickly. Would recommend them to anyone we know or meet.

All I can say is I'm very disappointed with Brentwood A.C. I drove from a long distance, stopped twice by trains, to be met with a very unfriendly reception. Instead of a hello and a smile, I got an exasperated "can I help you?" I was handed a clipboard with forms to fill out. I told the receptionist I had filled out the forms online. She said "we don't have a computer here, it's at their house". They said they could get the info. I had the feeling I was a bother to her. I sat down and thought about this scene for 15 minutes after my appointment time and told her to scratch me off her list. I drove 45 minutes in good faith to do business with them, and they treat me like an imposition. I grew up near this practice and hoped to become a regular. There are too many veterinarians in Jacksonville to be treated like that. I'll take my business elsewhere. Remember: "You only have one chance to make a first impression."

My friend took her dog in to this vet for dermatitis on the day that he was due for another treatment. She brought a year's worth of paperwork from other veterinarians who had given the dog the shot and also recommended Apoquel as a better treatment for his condition. The vet refused to prescribe Apoquel and also refused to update the dog's shot because the dog 'wasn't showing signs of an active condition'. So the dog was there, the owner was there, and there was a year of paperwork for THIS EXACT ISSUE there, and the vet refused to give service to a dog who will SUFFER and DEVELOP LESIONS without the medication.
This is a vet that says 'because you take SUCH good care of your dog, I'm NOT going to help you.' The clinic then tried to charge her the 45 dollar fee for going in, even though the veterinarian was such an idiot about the situation that none of us can really see why she would be licensed to treat any animal.
Sorry, no pre-existing conditions allowed at this vet, and what a waste of time. If you only want to treat animals that look like walking scabs, maybe work in rescue where your input might actually mean something, and don't book appointments with people that actually love and care for their animals.

My only encounter with them was taking a stray rescue in for Froggy's Rescue. The receptionist was a bit cranky but I don't know how bad her day had been so I won't judge her about anything cause I'm sure the job can cause days like that. I cannot remember the wonderful tech that had to deal with the poor cat I bought in. She was compassionate about the cat and I believe from what I witnessed there your furbaby will be treated well and proper!

I'll never be able to say enough about the staff and vets here. Dr. Hightman has been a personal friend and vet for 20+ years now. Though I don't live in Jacksonville any more, I found myself making the drive for my show cat who had been seen by three vets at my current location for a continuing issue. Dr. Hightman was able to pinpoint the problem, work out the majority of the issue, and send me home with a much happier cat. I'll never take so long to go see him again. I've taken all manner of animals to Brentwood over the years and always felt my animal was getting the best care possible. I recommend this clinic to anyone who needs a quality, no nonsense vet who works for the animals.

I have a 7 year old pitbull that has been suffering with hip issues for 4 years. My regular vet would just treat him with antiinflammatories, which helped but didn't fix anything. One morning he stopped using his left back leg and was dragging his foot, I instantly took him to my vet and he told me I needed to take him to a neurologist! All I heard was I hope you have thousands of dollars to treat this. A friend of a friend told me that he uses Brentwood Animal Clinic and had nothing but good words. So I took him in and the staff was great and the doctor was great! My dog received acupuncture, chiropractic, acupressure, herbal therapy and prolo therapy. He had 5 treatments total and then we were put on prn. That was back in February and he has been pain free since! He is using his leg completely and is running and jumping again. The only problem is he has learned to be spoiled (not the doctors fault). Thank you so much for fixing my baby!

We used Brentwood Animal Clinic on our drive home from Palm Coast to Massashusetts...although only an hour from our home in FL our cat, Trickster, had his first asthma attack. My own vet told me not to come home but to find the nearest animal hospital. We were blessed to find Brentwood...Dr. Sattesahn was waiting for us when we arrived and immediately directed us to the room that had already been prepared for Trickster when I had called and said we were five minutes away on I-95. Trickster received the best care I have ever seen at an animal hospital....I only wish that my own actual hospital ER was on the level Brentwood is. Trickster not only received the appropriate care but we had an uneventful ride up north which made us all relax and enjoy our trip. Thank you Dr. Lynn Sattesahn for the excellent care you gave our Trickster!

There's no question at all that the vets and the staff care about animals. They seem to adore german shepherds because when I brought our GSH puppy here they went bananas over him. I boarded him here too and they gushed about his manners. I found out they let him roam around the clinic with them because they liked him hanging around being all goofy. Of course, puppies in general are irresistible.They even called us while we were in Vegas concerned about his excessive thirst and urination while in their care. We asked them if he was allowed free reign to water and when they said yes, we told them problem solved. He was in his water hog stage and had to be restrained or else he'd drink and pee non stop. Not the cheapest vet in town, but I like the way they cared for my dogs. The blonde front office person can be unpleasant and gruff but Dr. S makes up for her dour demeanor.

I have nothing but good things to say about the two vets that work at this clinic. However, the front desk staff is a completely different matter. I dread picking up the phone to call this clinic. When my pet is sick, the very last thing I need is to feel like my call is a burden or distraction from whatever else might be going on in the office. They are very short/rude with me, have made mistakes with appointments and refused to acknowledge the error, and don't answer my questions adequately. I have recently switched to a vet with a much more helpful staff. It's a huge weight off my shoulders.

This is the only vet clinic in town I would consider going to. Sure, it may get a little chaotic in the wait room and they are likely running behind schedule, but this place has an amazingly caring team and Dr. Heightman and Dr. Sattersahnd are incredible. My poor baby has epilepsy and when I moved here, I knew I needed a vet team that would understand my desire to minimize his exposure to triggers and unnecessary treatments. I needed a vet practice that focused on healing the causes of the problem rather than treating surface level symptoms. Luckily, this town has a vet practicing with this standard. Dr. Hightman is a member of the Veterinary Holistic Association and is able to provide acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatment when necessary. This means that not only does he have a veterinary degree from one of the best institutions in the country, but he has additional training using less harmful and less traditional medicine. If your loved one ever starts showing signs of health problems, keep your options open and consider this alternative and more progressive form of medicine.

The best holistic veterinary practice in town! I have used this practice for over ten years and have always been pleased. Dr. Hightman and his staff are skilled, caring and supportive veterinary professionals. I have referred many friends to him who have also been very pleased. Acupuncture is available in several practices now, but none are as experienced and skilled as Dr. Hightman. I appreciate his use of titers instead of encouraging over vaccination which is so common in many veterinary practices.

Brought my 2 year old German Shepherd to Skip Hightman as a last resort after all other vets recommended expensive surgery or euthanasia. He treated her with a western/holistic med, acupuncture combo for 9 years and she was pain free her entire life. She died peacefully at age 11. When she died, all of the staff consoled me and I received sympathy cards in the mail.
If you are looking for a cheap vet, this is not it. If you're looking for the best care, it does not get any better. I highly, highly recommend this vet.

Dr. Hightman and his staff did everything possible for my little Pomeranian, ZuZu Petals. Although there was every form of medicine available, she had cancer which was agressive. I'm just glad Dr. Hightman, with a tears of his own, was there to take away her pain when it became uncomfortable. I thank God & St. Francis that ZuZu Petals made her own decision to leave today in peace and calm. She was met by her darling sweet "ever so happy" brother, Snickers, over on the other side, as I know he has so much to show her! Now, my sweet little ZuZu Petals is again happy & playing over on the other side, and she will run to greet me when it is my turn. Dr. Hightman & staff have always been the best & always will be best because they are blessed. Loving my ZuZu Petals forever.

Lobby is large and clean, and usually busy.They suggested several options for improving the quality of life when one cat started to decline due to renal failure. When it came time to usher him to the next stage of his cosmic journey, the staff were empathetic and comforting. Sent me a condolence card a week or so later.If if decide to share my place with pets again, I'll have no hesitation in taking them to Dr. Hightman's office for care.

A Veterinary doctor gave my Labradoodle a yearly Rabies, Distemper, and Parvo. A couple hours after got home my dog was listless and did not want to walk around in the house. He also had his ears Plucked they put powder in his ears and pulled the hair and some debris out. I was glad to see his ears getting cleaned. However, the doctor was called away to another patient and one of the techs and the tech that answer the phones. The one that answer the phones was digging into my dogs ears while leaning over him talking loud on the phone my dog kept screeming and trying to move and I told them to stop because I felt they were hurting him and she was not a doctor or paying attention. I was very disappointed even now days later my dog shakes his head hard . I call the clinic and they suggested to buy a cream that numb or smooth the pain? I would not recommend this clinic for ear plucking or hair removal.

After the stitches were removed, my dog went on a licking frenzy and made himself bleed. Of course it was on a Sunday, and the Emergency Vet on Beach Blvd wanted to charge us over $400 to stop the bleeding. I was able to contact Dr. Hightman. He made arrangements for me to meet one of his vet techs at the clinic, where they took care of the problem. He was recommended by four of my family members who have been using him for many years. I only wish I had started using him sooner.

We brought our dog, Lindsey, to Dr. Hightman because her hip had become dislocated. The Dr. said it would require surgery to repair and it is pretty routine. About 4 days after the surgery, we noticed that Lindsey's had pain and it was getting worse by the day. We requested an unscheduled visit to find the cause of the pain. At the visit, Dr. Hightman said it was internal gas and prescribed anti-gas herbs. That night and into the early morning hours, Lindsey's pain was so tremendous, she began howling. We stayed up all night with Lindsey to try to make her more comfortable. We planned to call Dr. Hightman in the morning. Linsdey died at about 7:30 a.m., she died of internal bleading. Dr. Highman failed to recognize symptoms of internal bleeding from the surgery. What is very disturbing is that Dr. Hightman will not admit to his mistake and does not want to take any blame.

We are traveling and our Yorkie started itching frantically. Even though it was Saturday, we were told to come on in and were greeted by a very friendly staff and quickly were taken in to see the doctor after only ten or fifteen minutes even without an appointment. The staff and the doctor were very accommodating and diagnosed our issue and got our little girl feeling good quickly. Would recommend them to anyone we know or meet.

All I can say is I'm very disappointed with Brentwood A.C. I drove from a long distance, stopped twice by trains, to be met with a very unfriendly reception. Instead of a hello and a smile, I got an exasperated "can I help you?" I was handed a clipboard with forms to fill out. I told the receptionist I had filled out the forms online. She said "we don't have a computer here, it's at their house". They said they could get the info. I had the feeling I was a bother to her. I sat down and thought about this scene for 15 minutes after my appointment time and told her to scratch me off her list. I drove 45 minutes in good faith to do business with them, and they treat me like an imposition. I grew up near this practice and hoped to become a regular. There are too many veterinarians in Jacksonville to be treated like that. I'll take my business elsewhere. Remember: "You only have one chance to make a first impression."

My friend took her dog in to this vet for dermatitis on the day that he was due for another treatment. She brought a year's worth of paperwork from other veterinarians who had given the dog the shot and also recommended Apoquel as a better treatment for his condition. The vet refused to prescribe Apoquel and also refused to update the dog's shot because the dog 'wasn't showing signs of an active condition'. So the dog was there, the owner was there, and there was a year of paperwork for THIS EXACT ISSUE there, and the vet refused to give service to a dog who will SUFFER and DEVELOP LESIONS without the medication.
This is a vet that says 'because you take SUCH good care of your dog, I'm NOT going to help you.' The clinic then tried to charge her the 45 dollar fee for going in, even though the veterinarian was such an idiot about the situation that none of us can really see why she would be licensed to treat any animal.
Sorry, no pre-existing conditions allowed at this vet, and what a waste of time. If you only want to treat animals that look like walking scabs, maybe work in rescue where your input might actually mean something, and don't book appointments with people that actually love and care for their animals.

My only encounter with them was taking a stray rescue in for Froggy's Rescue. The receptionist was a bit cranky but I don't know how bad her day had been so I won't judge her about anything cause I'm sure the job can cause days like that. I cannot remember the wonderful tech that had to deal with the poor cat I bought in. She was compassionate about the cat and I believe from what I witnessed there your furbaby will be treated well and proper!

I'll never be able to say enough about the staff and vets here. Dr. Hightman has been a personal friend and vet for 20+ years now. Though I don't live in Jacksonville any more, I found myself making the drive for my show cat who had been seen by three vets at my current location for a continuing issue. Dr. Hightman was able to pinpoint the problem, work out the majority of the issue, and send me home with a much happier cat. I'll never take so long to go see him again. I've taken all manner of animals to Brentwood over the years and always felt my animal was getting the best care possible. I recommend this clinic to anyone who needs a quality, no nonsense vet who works for the animals.

I have a 7 year old pitbull that has been suffering with hip issues for 4 years. My regular vet would just treat him with antiinflammatories, which helped but didn't fix anything. One morning he stopped using his left back leg and was dragging his foot, I instantly took him to my vet and he told me I needed to take him to a neurologist! All I heard was I hope you have thousands of dollars to treat this. A friend of a friend told me that he uses Brentwood Animal Clinic and had nothing but good words. So I took him in and the staff was great and the doctor was great! My dog received acupuncture, chiropractic, acupressure, herbal therapy and prolo therapy. He had 5 treatments total and then we were put on prn. That was back in February and he has been pain free since! He is using his leg completely and is running and jumping again. The only problem is he has learned to be spoiled (not the doctors fault). Thank you so much for fixing my baby!

Dr. Hightman is nice and will go over everthing with you. His staff on the other hand is VERY rude. I do not recommend Brentwood Animal Clinic due to the rude staff.

We used Brentwood Animal Clinic on our drive home from Palm Coast to Massashusetts...although only an hour from our home in FL our cat, Trickster, had his first asthma attack. My own vet told me not to come home but to find the nearest animal hospital. We were blessed to find Brentwood...Dr. Sattesahn was waiting for us when we arrived and immediately directed us to the room that had already been prepared for Trickster when I had called and said we were five minutes away on I-95. Trickster received the best care I have ever seen at an animal hospital....I only wish that my own actual hospital ER was on the level Brentwood is. Trickster not only received the appropriate care but we had an uneventful ride up north which made us all relax and enjoy our trip. Thank you Dr. Lynn Sattesahn for the excellent care you gave our Trickster!

There's no question at all that the vets and the staff care about animals. They seem to adore german shepherds because when I brought our GSH puppy here they went bananas over him. I boarded him here too and they gushed about his manners. I found out they let him roam around the clinic with them because they liked him hanging around being all goofy. Of course, puppies in general are irresistible.They even called us while we were in Vegas concerned about his excessive thirst and urination while in their care. We asked them if he was allowed free reign to water and when they said yes, we told them problem solved. He was in his water hog stage and had to be restrained or else he'd drink and pee non stop. Not the cheapest vet in town, but I like the way they cared for my dogs. The blonde front office person can be unpleasant and gruff but Dr. S makes up for her dour demeanor.

I have nothing but good things to say about the two vets that work at this clinic. However, the front desk staff is a completely different matter. I dread picking up the phone to call this clinic. When my pet is sick, the very last thing I need is to feel like my call is a burden or distraction from whatever else might be going on in the office. They are very short/rude with me, have made mistakes with appointments and refused to acknowledge the error, and don't answer my questions adequately. I have recently switched to a vet with a much more helpful staff. It's a huge weight off my shoulders.

This is the only vet clinic in town I would consider going to. Sure, it may get a little chaotic in the wait room and they are likely running behind schedule, but this place has an amazingly caring team and Dr. Heightman and Dr. Sattersahnd are incredible. My poor baby has epilepsy and when I moved here, I knew I needed a vet team that would understand my desire to minimize his exposure to triggers and unnecessary treatments. I needed a vet practice that focused on healing the causes of the problem rather than treating surface level symptoms. Luckily, this town has a vet practicing with this standard. Dr. Hightman is a member of the Veterinary Holistic Association and is able to provide acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatment when necessary. This means that not only does he have a veterinary degree from one of the best institutions in the country, but he has additional training using less harmful and less traditional medicine. If your loved one ever starts showing signs of health problems, keep your options open and consider this alternative and more progressive form of medicine.

Dr. Hightman and his staff are skilled, caring and supportive veterinary professionals. I have referred many friends to him who have also been very pleased. Acupuncture is available in several practices now, but none are as experienced and skilled as Dr. Hightman. I appreciate his use of titers instead of encouraging over vaccination which is so common in many veterinary practices.

Brought my 2 year old German Shepherd to Skip Hightman as a last resort after all other vets recommended expensive surgery or euthanasia. He treated her with a western/holistic med, acupuncture combo for 9 years and she was pain free her entire life. She died peacefully at age 11. When she died, all of the staff consoled me and I received sympathy cards in the mail.
If you are looking for a cheap vet, this is not it. If you're looking for the best care, it does not get any better. I highly, highly recommend this vet.

Dr. Hightman and his staff did everything possible for my little Pomeranian, ZuZu Petals. Although there was every form of medicine available, she had cancer which was agressive. I'm just glad Dr. Hightman, with a tears of his own, was there to take away her pain when it became uncomfortable. I thank God & St. Francis that ZuZu Petals made her own decision to leave today in peace and calm. She was met by her darling sweet "ever so happy" brother, Snickers, over on the other side, as I know he has so much to show her! Now, my sweet little ZuZu Petals is again happy & playing over on the other side, and she will run to greet me when it is my turn. Dr. Hightman & staff have always been the best & always will be best because they are blessed. Loving my ZuZu Petals forever.

Lobby is large and clean, and usually busy.They suggested several options for improving the quality of life when one cat started to decline due to renal failure. When it came time to usher him to the next stage of his cosmic journey, the staff were empathetic and comforting. Sent me a condolence card a week or so later.If if decide to share my place with pets again, I'll have no hesitation in taking them to Dr. Hightman's office for care.

A Veterinary doctor gave my Labradoodle a yearly Rabies, Distemper, and Parvo. A couple hours after got home my dog was listless and did not want to walk around in the house. He also had his ears Plucked they put powder in his ears and pulled the hair and some debris out. I was glad to see his ears getting cleaned. However, the doctor was called away to another patient and one of the techs and the tech that answer the phones. The one that answer the phones was digging into my dogs ears while leaning over him talking loud on the phone my dog kept screeming and trying to move and I told them to stop because I felt they were hurting him and she was not a doctor or paying attention. I was very disappointed even now days later my dog shakes his head hard . I call the clinic and they suggested to buy a cream that numb or smooth the pain? I would not recommend this clinic for ear plucking or hair removal.

After the stitches were removed, my dog went on a licking frenzy and made himself bleed. Of course it was on a Sunday, and the Emergency Vet on Beach Blvd wanted to charge us over $400 to stop the bleeding. I was able to contact Dr. Hightman. He made arrangements for me to meet one of his vet techs at the clinic, where they took care of the problem. He was recommended by four of my family members who have been using him for many years. I only wish I had started using him sooner.

We brought our dog, Lindsey, to Dr. Hightman because her hip had become dislocated. The Dr. said it would require surgery to repair and it is pretty routine. About 4 days after the surgery, we noticed that Lindsey's had pain and it was getting worse by the day. We requested an unscheduled visit to find the cause of the pain. At the visit, Dr. Hightman said it was internal gas and prescribed anti-gas herbs. That night and into the early morning hours, Lindsey's pain was so tremendous, she began howling. We stayed up all night with Lindsey to try to make her more comfortable. We planned to call Dr. Hightman in the morning. Linsdey died at about 7:30 a.m., she died of internal bleading. Dr. Highman failed to recognize symptoms of internal bleeding from the surgery. What is very disturbing is that Dr. Hightman will not admit to his mistake and does not want to take any blame.
