I took my pets here for a little over a year due to its convenient location in relation to my house, and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. I've never seen more than one other person there, and yet visits still take about an hour. The primary concern here is money. They are great at keeping in contact with you if they are reminding you about an appointment or overdue "routine wellness exams," but if there is nothing they can bill you for, the health of your pet is no longer a concern. I've spent far more on my pets than most reasonable people (I have a miniature dachshund whose had five ER visits for toad toxicity, back surgery for degenerative disk disease, a Cesarean, and treatment for a leg injury), but try to talk even the least bit economically about your pets' care and they make you feel like your a terrible pet owner. The incident that prompted me to change vets after dealing with the many drawbacks of this veterinarian for so long nearly took my dogs life. She tore a ligament in her leg and had to wear a splint for 6-8 weeks. When on a trip to my parents, the limb started swelling, so I brought her into my vet there. An infection had set in due to irritation from a wrap that was applied too tightly. The infection was treated and a new splint applied. She continued her regular check ups at Dames Point, and they decided not to change the bandage for over 22 days. Out if town again, I couldn't make my check up appointment at Dames Point so I took her to my vet at my parents'. An infection so bad had set in that the vets were doubtful her leg would be saved. Even worse, because of her previous back surgery the vet wasn't sure that her frame could support walking with three legs, so if the leg could not be saved they wanted to discuss quality of life. Worse yet, even though the first time my other vet saw my dog they notated in her records that tape should not be applied directly to the skin, Dames Point ignored this precaution and continued to do so. When the bandage came off, because the infection had progressed to the point of necrosis, the skin over the entire lower portion of her leg was attached to the tape and peeled off. My other vet, who was absolutely phenomenal, attributed the state of my dog directly to the care she received at Dames Point. They applied her bandages too tight which reduced circulation, put tape directly on the skin, and didn't change the bandage for almost a month even after an infection had once already set in.Despite all odds, she recovered. She had to stay inpatient for three days and cage bound for two more weeks, but my vet down south saved her leg and her life. I left a voicemail with Dames Point regarding the state of my dog. They called once when she was still in inpatient care, and I told them that we weren't sure if she was going to make it. I haven't heard back from then since. It's been a month. For all they know my dog died weeks ago. This just further confirmed that ALL this vet cares about is money and they have NO concern for your animal's health. DO NOT take your pet here unless you want to pay inflated prices for negligent self-interest and a higher-than-thou attitude. Read Less
