I can tell her motivation is providing the best care for my pets, not selling me products or unnecessary treatments. My very friendly Siberian Husky and the owner vet could not seem to get along. Moved on to a different vet with no further issues. I guess like 2 people, sometimes a dog and a person, personalities, just clash. The support staff was very nice. My wife still takes her cat there and everything goes just fine. Read Less

Always friendly and helpful. Very patient with nervous dogs, big and small. Dr. Athey is always considerate to answer questions we have. Technicians and office staff are so helpful and nice. We have been using this vet clinic for 2 years and have no complaints. They just invited us to bring our nervous dogs to the office during lunch time so they can go and have a "happy visit" to get on them on the scale, get a treat, so it isn't always a negative visit. (shots...) Vet and techs always offer treats to our dogs before anything else. I would recommend this vet clinic for all your pet needs. Read Less

I moved to Arlington a few months after I got my puppies, Loki(silky terrier) and Heidi (Yorkie). I could not have found a better animal clinic. Everyone is very down to earth and seem to enjoy their jobs. They have always called the next day to check up on my pups and were very concerned about them. I had my pups spayed and neutered here. I'm really pleased with Dr. ATHEY and his staff for all of their concerns and help in getting Gahanna on a better road to recovery. Gahanna is for sure happy he is in no more pain, but understands it's a long way from total recovery. I wish we had been introduced to Fort Caroline Animal Hosipal sooner. I have been a client for many years.  I have taken several pets for care and boarding.  The staff is alway friendly and professional.  The medical team is knowledgeable, professional and very compassionate.  They are truly animal lovers!  The facility is very clean.  The lobby is clean and so are the examination rooms. I did not hesitate to leave my pups with them for overnight boarding.  When I picked them up the were well fed and bathed.  The price of services is reasonable.  It is fairly easy to get an appointment and there is very little wait time. These guys are the best of the best!!  My golden retriever tore her ACL along with her meniscus.  We took her originally to Affiliated Veterinary, and the type of surgery was really  invasive (steel plate in her leg) and the price was astronomical. I found Dr. Athey by doing research on this site.  Dr. Athey performed a lesser invasive surgery, charged a reasonable fee, and we are very pleased with the results.  It's only been 6wks. and she's still a bit gimpy, but on the mend.  I would never use another vet.  From their front office, to the vet techs, to the doc., you could never find a more caring, reasonable clinic.  Thanks for a great outcome! If i could rate this less than 1 star I would. We boarded our 4 month old kitten here for 4 days. We picked him up on a Monday morning ecstatic to see him after our vacation. He could hardly walk. He wouldn't eat, or drink water. He quit purring. He looked catatonic. The food we provided hadn't been touched, and he had lost half a pound since we boarded him. We rushed him to an emergency veterinary clinic and within 24 hours he was dead. We trusted them with the health of our pet. What safer place for an animal than a veterinary clinic? I took my new family member " jessie" to meet the vet and staff today. They were wonderful to Jess. She had not had a great life so far, however after I got her this week from "no more homeless pets" she will have the best life I can give her. Full of love. Fantastic people work here! My wife and I have had nothing but great visits every time we brought our furry children here. They are kind and compassionate. A special shoutout to James. He is so great with cats!!!!! No offense to all the other vet assistants, but he is THE BEST I have ever met (more exclamation marks)!!!!!!!!!! All this and Ft Caroline is very affordable too. We can here on October 17th 2016 . We took our dog spaarky to the vet to see why he wasn't eating or drinking & barely walking . He was already blind as well . So we got into there they welcomed us with big hearts & then the doctor came in & told us that he had a stroke which is why he lost his coordinates to move & part of his brain had damaged from that stroke & that type of stroke the doctor told us is fibrocartilaginous embolism & which caused him to twitch by his neck & he couldn't stand up or walk on his own . Then we asked well is there anything we can do to help him get better? & the doctor looked at us & said "no , I'm telling youu this because there's nothing we can do & I believe in life of animals & he shouldn't suffer more than what he's already have , so it's his time to go" . So him being an old 9 or 11 years old pit bull we euthanized him & we are getting his ashes sent to us . What was amazing is that he just looked at him & told us what had happened . All his symptoms happening within a week & just progressively got worse & there was nothing we could do to help him. So he went & took his last breath to be with god around 5pm on October 17th 2016 . It's the hardest thing we ever had to do . So we spent well over 2 hours with him before he went to sleep forever & after that my sister & I layed with him while he was already up in heaven & we hugged him , kissed him , cried on him too & he was still warm for at least an hour longer & his tongue was getting cold & his body was getting cold & he peed on the blanket at the vets & we knew he was living his happy life all over again . But when we got him he was already 3 months old & I was 9 or 10 & I'm now 20 years old now so he spend a significant amount of my life with our family, so it was so hard & a day later & it still seems that it's not real . But I know it is , my mind won't believe it right now ! But this is a great hospital to have your pets checked out . Read Less

Visited Ft. Caroline Animal Clinic for the first time today, it was the best vet visit that I've ever experienced in the 7 1/2 years that I've had my min pin. The staff was all very friendly and super nice. We went to get caught up on shots and get a wellness exam. They were quick and thorough with the exam. Shots were very fast and as painless ad they could be. My pup has very high stress and anxiety when we are around people she isn't comfortable with and they have bandanas that they offer for free with a couple of sprays of Adaptil (pheromones that help calm dogs down). We utilized the offer of the bandana and I noticed a huge change in my dog. She let 2 of the vet techs hold her during shot and allowed them to trim her nail which those activities are usually like wrestling an alligator. Dusty Turner was the main vet tech that we had for our appointment and she was wonderful!! Needless to say I will be recommending Ft. Caroline Animal Clinic to all my Jacksonville friends and family.Read Less

Ft Caroline has been our vet for seven years and the the third vet we have used since we moved to Jacksonville. We feel as if Dr Athey, Dr Lincoln, the vet staff and office staff are family. They have gently helped us send kitties to kitty heaven. Ashleigh helped us adopt a feral kitten we didn't know we needed. I'm a retired Navy officer and I've used vets around the world. This vet office has all of our previous records from prior vet, has examined our dog whom has been on HW preventative for the last year, consistently. Yet, they insist on doing a HW exam-even though there is PROOF that the dog has been on preventative. This is just a greedy money making tactic. I can understand when there aren't previous records, or the dog hasn't been seen by them, but neither of these are the case. Finding a new vet. Read Less

We use Ft. Caroline Animal Clinic for veterinary services and boarding. They are wonderful. In the past few years we have had 2 senior pups that passed away, and the care that they received "near the end" was very considerate. I wish we had found this veterinarian clinic much sooner than we did, but fortunately we did after a neighbor highly recommended Ft Caroline Animal Clinic. We, like everyone else, are super impressed at how polite and friendly everyone at the clinic is. They are caring, compassionate, and dedicated from the receptionist to the veterinarian and all of the assistants. We called and even as a new patient were able to get an appointment right away. Clearly this is a popular location because when we arrived the parking lot was full, but even so, our wait was not that long. My office is down the street and we found two lost dogs. We called this vet just to let them know we had them in case someone called. The vet's office offered to scan them for ID chips - we took them over, and they were able to find the dogs' owner right away! They were just SO nice! Read Less

Came here on Thursday morning with my puppy dog for the first time. What kind staff this place has! I found it because of yelp and the great reviews and I cannot be more happy. Scheduling was very easy to do and the lady on the phone was kind and helpful. It always speaks so much to me when the front desk staff are sweet. When I got to our 9:30 am appointment they had me fill out a bit of paperwork and then we were taken back. Cleo had her wellness exam . The staff were so kind and helpful. This clinic, overall, is the best. Drs. Athey and Lincoln provide excellent medical treatment and both have wonderful "bedside manners". I am so paranoid about what I allow to be done with my fur kids. My dog Cashew had to have ACL surgery done and as a Mom, I was so nervous and scared for my baby. But Dr.Athey assured me that he will be just fine. And he was right, my dog started to use the leg 3 days after the surgery and I can not even see a scar on his leg. I am so thankful for them. We have been bringing our animals here since I was a wee tyke. It is right down the road from the house which makes transporting dogs and cats easier.. less stress for the kitties (they're not fans of change). They can usually get you in pretty quick. This last time I brought Bud in for his annual rabies shot and check-up. They were very nice and you can tell these people love animals. Finally at check out the lady heard me on the phone with my dad and asked if it was his dog. I said he is the family dog... she asks if mom or dad is 62, I say yes and boom, senior discount :) She didn't have to do that, she wanted to help us save a few dollars and I really appreciate that. My family and I just moved to Jacksonville and needed to immediately find a good vet for our 11 year old boxer and 2 year old ridgeback.  After reading the reviews online, we decided on Ft Caroline Animal Clinic and we were not disappointed.  The positive reviews are accurate!  We have been to vet offices before that wanted to sell us and guilt us into extra unnecessary treatments, but Ft. Caroline was the exact opposite.  Our ridgeback has been having some issues that we thought might be hip displasia, but Dr. Athey checked him out and said that he had in fact blown out both knees.  Instead of trying to push surgery, he was honest and said that since the injuries were several months old, it wouldn't really help.  I know for a fact that our last vet would have pushed for the surgery.  Dr. Athey was wonderful about the whole thing and gave us a plan to make sure that he stays healthy and happy (keep weight off, give supplements) and at the same time keep the treatment reasonable for a budget conscious family.  The next day I had a couple extra questions and Dr. Athey immediately returned my call and answered my questions and even told me a few ways to save some money.  Overall, I was just throughly impressed with Dr. Athey and his staff.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! My mom has been taking her pets here for my entire life. They are located right past University Blvd. on Ft. Caroline Rd. and while the neighborhood has seen better days, the quality of the service at this clinic has not slipped in the least.The vets here are very knowledgeable and the staff are extremely friendly. They remember each pet that comes in and my mom's little miniature dachshund doesn't even get the shakes when we have to take her in!They often have stray pets living in the clinic that they work hard to find homes for [we have almost adopted a kitten on more than one occasion]. Once, also, when my moms little [aforementioned] puppy rescued an infant squirrel that had fallen from the tree [I kid you not, she saved it from the cats waiting to pounce] we called them up and they had a squirrel rescuer in their Rolodex who they gladly connected us to. [Amazing story all around... dog saves squirrel, woman is squirrel rescuer, squirrel lives.]If you live in the area, this is the place I would recommend taking your pets to for all their health needs.
