I will admit the price $$$ isn't cheap, but I always feel like my dog is taken care of. My 7 year old dachshund has pancreatitis, it has been managed for a year + now. The vets all seem to really care about the pets, and take the time to explain many things you might not know about whatever condition your pet has. When my dog isnt feeling well, they give me a call and ask how shes doing. I also want to point out that this was the only place that gave my dog antibiotics when she had a UTI. I had taken her to another practice in avondale, who had denied her antibiotics for over a month when she was clearly infected. As i mentioned earlier, i feel comfortable here that they will do whats best for my dog.

Bottom line:Doctors (5 stars)Facilities (5 starts)Front office staff (2 stars)Technicians (3 stars)Ive brought my pet to this hospital a handful of times for exams, surgery, medication pickup, etc. and my experiences seem to be getting worse. I want to preface with sharing that the doctors are professional, informative, gentle with your pet, and ensure all your questions are answered. And the facilities are clean and kept up, but the support staff is lacking.Receptionists are not always professional and do not seem to think clients are a priority. I've had a receptionist make eye contact with me and then proceed to dust for over 5 minutes before she asked if i "had been helped", even though i was the only one in the lobby. Another receptionist found her chipped nail polish to be more entertaining than my questions. She would'nt look at me while she answered my questions and continued to pick at her nail. Technician experience varies, sometimes its great and other times it is a rushed experience. And the techs dont always review the chart before they greet you, which leads to having to answer the same questions you just answered at the front desk. Also, the information techs give you can be different from the information the receptionists give you. This can be confusing.If you can look past the support staff shortcomings you will be pleased with the doctor experience and care for your pet.Best of luck

It's nice to have confidence in the animal hospital you take you furry family member, we have for over a decade. The doctors and staff ARE GREAT!!!Our first vet, Doctor Chick, moved out of state about a year ago to start his own practice. We were so sad, as Milia was slipping. Doctor Bennett took over care of Milia, and we could not have been more pleased. He continued Doctor Chick's path until it was time. He could have done all sorts of orders for $$$, but he didn't, unfortunately his only time to meet Milia was the day we said goodbye. Not too long after we lost Milia, Jack wondered into my wife's work. No collar, no chip, and we searched, posted, to find his owner. We think he was abandoned. What did we do? Off to SJAH Jack goes for exam. After we couldn't find jack's owner, we adopted him, or was it the other way around. Unfortunately about six months later Jack tested positive for heart-worms. Doctor Bennett advised first slow treatment to see if we could avoid the killer treatment. No luck. We are currently on shot two, tomorrow shot three. Why 4 not 5 stars. Their not 24hr emergency care. Being a retired police/fireman, I've got to leave the 5 star to the emergency 24hr hospital.

Took our dog here recently covered in an itchy rash. The Vet knew exactly what the problem was and had our dog on the road to recovery before we left the building. He listened to us better than any other vet we have ever dealt with. The staff was friendly and professional. They got us in on short notice also. All and all a 5 star visit but I have become cautious in handing out 5 star reviews after only 1 visit. If service continues to be this great I will award that final star.

My Chewbacca has been using San Juan as our vet since she was 8 weeks old. Every doctor we've seen has been very knowledgeable and helpful. The most recent time we went was for Chewbacca to get her annual shots and a checkup. Unfortunately she had an adverse reaction to the flea medication, Trifexis, which I will never use again ever. I took her back 5 days later and learned she lost .8 of a pound from vomiting and from diarrhea. The doctor (Bennett) listened to symptoms and responded with sympathy. He even called the maker of the pill company and they paid for the bloodwork and the office fee! ($193) That's great but how about not trying to kill my dog from your poison medication )Staff is friendly and helpful and the facility is always clean. The best part about this place is you don't have to make an appointment (but can). They have Walk in time slots so it's very convenient! I definitely recommend!!

We love SJAH so much, especially Dr. Fulton! Our Bella had a stroke in her spine 2 years ago leaving her with hind-end paralysis and is now a wheelie dog...she has received such incredible care. I attribute so much of Bella's progress in mobility to our acupuncture treatments along with some laser and physical therapy. Bella LOVES her vet visits (and especially the peanut butter kong and treats lol)! Dr. Fulton and the staff are so incredibly caring. I feel very comfortable talking about Bella's issues and asking questions about thing we can try for both her and my 14 year old dog Bailey who has arthritis. I wouldn't take my pups anywhere else!

I had a terrible experience here when I took my cat in about a year ago. To begin with, the staff at the front desk was not welcoming or friendly at all. The vet techs didn't even introduce themselves when they came in the room - didn't even look me in the eyes - and just started handling my cat.The vet seemed very knowledgeable, however, a bit brash. When he walked in the back room where the other vet techs were, all I could hear was him yelling at them. He seemed totally unhinged.They took my cat to the back a few times for a blood test and an x-ray. When they brought her back to me the last time, she reeked of rubbing alcohol and was shaking. I know these things can be uncomfortable for them, but they totally traumatized her. I just remember thinking - what did you do to my cat??I felt so uncomfortable here the entire time and will never take my cat back here.

This past summer, we had to lay our14 yr. old Cocker Spaniel to sleep. The staff showed us sooo much tenderness and understanding. I really appreciate the kind understanding support that they gave to my family and me. They knew that Nala was part of our family (not just a pet) and they treated her as such. We were allowed as much time as we needed to say good bye even though they were technically closing for day. They will be our family animal clinic from now on. Being a new customer, I was somewhat apprehensive. That feeling disappeared pretty much when I entered the facility. Spacious and clean comes to mind. The staff were all courteous and professional. And the two doctors that I have dealt with (for my two terriers) were great and both took the time to explain treatments and answer any questions. There was no feeling of being rushed at all.Also having multiple doctors means more hours of coverage. When you are having an emergency, this benefit becomes very obvious. I can personally attest to this.And, best of all, they are in my neighborhood. Life is good.

I was referred here by many people but I guess they all assumed I could afford that... I also watched them charge an elderly couple 300 dollars for meds the couple could have picked up at Costco, the old man was so flustered and I watched them count out their dollars. You all may be great with animal compassion but ya gotta develop some human compassion too.

Dr. Bennett and the entire staff from the don't door to the back was truly early-morning amazing. I have been a patient with other babies and the quality of the service has remained the same. I took my little 12 week kitten here to get him started, and had a wonderful experience! The entire staff was friendly, and you could tell they truly love being able to what the do! Dr. Fulton did an excellent job making sure our families new fur baby was well taken care of. She was thorough in making sure he was all checked out, and was so sweet with him when he had to get his shots.
I absolute recommend coming here. It's important that our furry family members have the best care, and San Juan Animal Hospital is exactly the place you can trust for just that!

When we arrived all the way from Orange Park, Fl. Leigh said the payment didn't post on their side. Leigh is not a people person. She made no eye contact and was very short with me and never smiled. Long story short. My pups are no longer patients. They have a new vet and they did a marvelous service removing my fur babes dewclaw and docking tails on yesterday. I am just too exhausted to debate at a vet clinic. I hope you find happiness Leigh.

Yesterday I had to make one of the toughest decisions of my life and that was to put my senior dog down due to cancer. It was completely unexpected. The care and compassion by Dr. O'keefe and the staff is really great. The decision was agonizing but we have complete trust in the care provided. San Juan Animal Hospital is as close to perfect as a veterinary hospital can get. Everyone is polite to me. My dogs aren't particularly fond of going there, but they don't want to go anyplace except home. I adopt rescued dogs, who tend to be skittish. Every vet and every staff member is kind and patient with my pups. I'm grateful for the good, prompt service we receive.

I had a horrible experience at this Animal Hospital. As I knew that Vet prices could be high, I walked in a told every associate who communicated with me that I needed to know the prices for everything that would be done with my dogs. The vet came in an just started giving shots, and doing a series of items. When I asked the prices yet again, he said that it would be fine. When I went to pay my bill it totaled $687. The employee who read the price read it has if I was paying $2. She became short with me as I asked why so much. The customer next to me also encountered an issue with services performed on the pet and the staff was very condescending and rude. I will NEVER be back. I have moved to another Vet who showed me the price comparison. Even with all of the services, I would have paid $200 less at the new vet. San Juan animal hospital is a rip off. I will NEVER EVER BE BACK. Please do much more research before you choose them. Horrible.

Sometimes some cats get real hangry, and lucky me Sumi is one example of a hangry cat. But she's fine. AND maybe the first time ever I have taken a cat to the vet and been told her teeth look fine. This is number two and both of them had the worst teeth on the planet so now she's looking good and I'll be making SJVH my vet here in Jax. Yeah, I know, right? her teeth STINK!

Absolute nightmare of an experience. Went in because my cat had eaten some nylon string that you use to tie a helium balloon with. After 6 hours of waiting, the vet told me that he used a form of morphine and Hydrogen peroxide to get my cat to vomit out the string. She didn't vomit it out. When they brought me my cat back she was covered in urine. I asked the doctor if he could clean her up. He leaves the room and 30 seconds later returns, after he wiped her down with a paper towel. Then asked if i had brought her in a carrier. YES! Like 99% of the people that bring cats in, i did as well. After 10 minutes of simply finding the carrier. He returns with my cat in her carrier. And he tells me "yeah she didnt puke up the nylon string but just keep an eye on her poo for the next few days." Then i go to pay and im slapped with a 115 dollar bill. HOW?! You gave her hydrogen peroxide, which is basically water with a little bit more oxygen in it. Then a tiny bit of morphine. And a paper towel to wipe her off from being traumatized. Whatever. I payed the bill and returned home. After properly cleaning my cat off i let her have some time to herself. After about an hour i notice worms. Yes, worms coming from my cats anus. Seriously?! She didnt have worms before and NOW she does. Absolutely ridiculous, we have NO other pets. The cat stays inside and my girlfriend and i NEVER come into contact with other cats. I dont know what happened up there to give her worms but now she has them. I called the vet and told them what happened. The response i received was "oh yeah, sorry about that just come in tomorrow morning and get some meds for that, we're about to close." I guess thats what i get for spending that much on my cat for absolutely nothing. This has been a horrific experience for my cat, my girlfriend and myself.

I really do not understand the reviews. Everytime I go here, the parking lot is packed. They work with many rescues and have one of the longest running practices in Jacksonville. You get what you pay for in animal care and San Juan Animal Hospital takes care of my two dogs and cat. I am most impressed by the vet techs, who are all friendly to my pets and who also work together as a team. The doctors are the best part of the practice, for sure, and they are really good at what they do. I know one of the doctors has a special place in his heart for my dog's breed and he always jokes that he is planning to take them home with him, when I am not looking. Just great bedside manners.When one of my dogs had a lump on her back, the doctors were able to operate on her, remove the lump, test it and I was so relieved to hear it was NOT cancerous. If costs are a major issue, I know they are important to me too, you can always look at the pet insurance options offered. Pet insurance is affordable and worth it for when your pet needs it. San Juan has a number of great carriers, but you will want to speak with them on what best fits your need. They often times run specials for vaccinations, so you can get a lot of good care there, for not much, and rest assured it is the best care you could get for your pet.

I will admit the price $$$ isn't cheap, but I always feel like my dog is taken care of. My 7 year old dachshund has pancreatitis, it has been managed for a year + now. The vets all seem to really care about the pets, and take the time to explain many things you might not know about whatever condition your pet has. When my dog isnt feeling well, they give me a call and ask how shes doing. I also want to point out that this was the only place that gave my dog antibiotics when she had a UTI. I had taken her to another practice in avondale, who had denied her antibiotics for over a month when she was clearly infected. As i mentioned earlier, i feel comfortable here that they will do whats best for my dog.

Bottom line:Doctors (5 stars)Facilities (5 starts)Front office staff (2 stars)Technicians (3 stars)Ive brought my pet to this hospital a handful of times for exams, surgery, medication pickup, etc. and my experiences seem to be getting worse. I want to preface with sharing that the doctors are professional, informative, gentle with your pet, and ensure all your questions are answered. And the facilities are clean and kept up, but the support staff is lacking.Receptionists are not always professional and do not seem to think clients are a priority. I've had a receptionist make eye contact with me and then proceed to dust for over 5 minutes before she asked if i "had been helped", even though i was the only one in the lobby. Another receptionist found her chipped nail polish to be more entertaining than my questions. She would'nt look at me while she answered my questions and continued to pick at her nail. Technician experience varies, sometimes its great and other times it is a rushed experience. And the techs dont always review the chart before they greet you, which leads to having to answer the same questions you just answered at the front desk. Also, the information techs give you can be different from the information the receptionists give you. This can be confusing.If you can look past the support staff shortcomings you will be pleased with the doctor experience and care for your pet.Best of luck

It's nice to have confidence in the animal hospital you take you furry family member, we have for over a decade. The doctors and staff ARE GREAT!!!Our first vet, Doctor Chick, moved out of state about a year ago to start his own practice. We were so sad, as Milia was slipping. Doctor Bennett took over care of Milia, and we could not have been more pleased. He continued Doctor Chick's path until it was time. He could have done all sorts of orders for $$$, but he didn't, unfortunately his only time to meet Milia was the day we said goodbye. Not too long after we lost Milia, Jack wondered into my wife's work. No collar, no chip, and we searched, posted, to find his owner. We think he was abandoned. What did we do? Off to SJAH Jack goes for exam. After we couldn't find jack's owner, we adopted him, or was it the other way around. Unfortunately about six months later Jack tested positive for heart-worms. Doctor Bennett advised first slow treatment to see if we could avoid the killer treatment. No luck. We are currently on shot two, tomorrow shot three. Why 4 not 5 stars. Their not 24hr emergency care. Being a retired police/fireman, I've got to leave the 5 star to the emergency 24hr hospital.

Took our dog here recently covered in an itchy rash. The Vet knew exactly what the problem was and had our dog on the road to recovery before we left the building. He listened to us better than any other vet we have ever dealt with. The staff was friendly and professional. They got us in on short notice also. All and all a 5 star visit but I have become cautious in handing out 5 star reviews after only 1 visit. If service continues to be this great I will award that final star.

My Chewbacca has been using San Juan as our vet since she was 8 weeks old. Every doctor we've seen has been very knowledgeable and helpful. The most recent time we went was for Chewbacca to get her annual shots and a checkup. Unfortunately she had an adverse reaction to the flea medication, Trifexis, which I will never use again ever. I took her back 5 days later and learned she lost .8 of a pound from vomiting and from diarrhea. The doctor (Bennett) listened to symptoms and responded with sympathy. He even called the maker of the pill company and they paid for the bloodwork and the office fee! ($193) That's great but how about not trying to kill my dog from your poison medication )Staff is friendly and helpful and the facility is always clean. The best part about this place is you don't have to make an appointment (but can). They have Walk in time slots so it's very convenient! I definitely recommend!!

We love SJAH so much, especially Dr. Fulton! Our Bella had a stroke in her spine 2 years ago leaving her with hind-end paralysis and is now a wheelie dog...she has received such incredible care. I attribute so much of Bella's progress in mobility to our acupuncture treatments along with some laser and physical therapy. Bella LOVES her vet visits (and especially the peanut butter kong and treats lol)! Dr. Fulton and the staff are so incredibly caring. I feel very comfortable talking about Bella's issues and asking questions about thing we can try for both her and my 14 year old dog Bailey who has arthritis. I wouldn't take my pups anywhere else!

I had a terrible experience here when I took my cat in about a year ago. To begin with, the staff at the front desk was not welcoming or friendly at all. The vet techs didn't even introduce themselves when they came in the room - didn't even look me in the eyes - and just started handling my cat.The vet seemed very knowledgeable, however, a bit brash. When he walked in the back room where the other vet techs were, all I could hear was him yelling at them. He seemed totally unhinged.They took my cat to the back a few times for a blood test and an x-ray. When they brought her back to me the last time, she reeked of rubbing alcohol and was shaking. I know these things can be uncomfortable for them, but they totally traumatized her. I just remember thinking - what did you do to my cat??I felt so uncomfortable here the entire time and will never take my cat back here.

This past summer, we had to lay our14 yr. old Cocker Spaniel to sleep. The staff showed us sooo much tenderness and understanding. I really appreciate the kind understanding support that they gave to my family and me. They knew that Nala was part of our family (not just a pet) and they treated her as such. We were allowed as much time as we needed to say good bye even though they were technically closing for day. They will be our family animal clinic from now on. And by the way, the prices were reasonable too.

Being a new customer, I was somewhat apprehensive. That feeling disappeared pretty much when I entered the facility. Spacious and clean comes to mind. The staff were all courteous and professional. And the two doctors that I have dealt with (for my two terriers) were great and both took the time to explain treatments and answer any questions. There was no feeling of being rushed at all.Also having multiple doctors means more hours of coverage. When you are having an emergency, this benefit becomes very obvious. I can personally attest to this.And, best of all, they are in my neighborhood. Life is good.

I was referred here by many people but I guess they all assumed I could afford that... I also watched them charge an elderly couple 300 dollars for meds the couple could have picked up at Costco, the old man was so flustered and I watched them count out their dollars. You all may be great with animal compassion but ya gotta develop some human compassion too.

I took my little 12 week kitten here to get him started, and had a wonderful experience! The entire staff was friendly, and you could tell they truly love being able to what the do! Dr. Fulton did an excellent job making sure our families new fur baby was well taken care of. She was thorough in making sure he was all checked out, and was so sweet with him when he had to get his shots.
I absolute recommend coming here. It's important that our furry family members have the best care, and San Juan Animal Hospital is exactly the place you can trust for just that!

Poor record keeping. I advised Leigh that I have proof of payment which consist of bank statement and confirmation. I even paid my balance a day prior to service and Nichole set up our 8:30am appt. When we arrived all the way from Orange Park, Fl. Leigh said the payment didn't post on their side. Leigh is not a people person. She made no eye contact and was very short with me and never smiled. Long story short. My pups are no longer patients. They have a new vet and they did a marvelous service removing my fur babes dewclaw and docking tails on yesterday. I am just too exhausted to debate at a vet clinic. I hope you find happiness Leigh.

San Juan Animal Hospital is as close to perfect as a veterinary hospital can get. Everyone is polite to me. My dogs aren't particularly fond of going there, but they don't want to go anyplace except home. I adopt rescued dogs, who tend to be skittish. Every vet and every staff member is kind and patient with my pups. I'm grateful for the good, prompt service we receive.

I had a horrible experience at this Animal Hospital. As I knew that Vet prices could be high, I walked in a told every associate who communicated with me that I needed to know the prices for everything that would be done with my dogs. The vet came in an just started giving shots, and doing a series of items. When I asked the prices yet again, he said that it would be fine. When I went to pay my bill it totaled $687. The employee who read the price read it has if I was paying $2. She became short with me as I asked why so much. The customer next to me also encountered an issue with services performed on the pet and the staff was very condescending and rude. I will NEVER be back. I have moved to another Vet who showed me the price comparison. Even with all of the services, I would have paid $200 less at the new vet. San Juan animal hospital is a rip off. I will NEVER EVER BE BACK. Please do much more research before you choose them. Horrible.

Had a coupon - and I love me a coupon - and a great experience here. Sumi was totally fine and it was just my mom who had convinced me there had to be something wrong because she was constantly eating and always hungry. "Guess what ?" said Dr. Guill. Sometimes some cats get real hangry, and lucky me Sumi is one example of a hangry cat. But she's fine. AND maybe the first time ever I have taken a cat to the vet and been told her teeth look fine. This is number two and both of them had the worst teeth on the planet so now she's looking good and I'll be making SJVH my vet here in Jax. Yeah, I know, right? her teeth STINK!

Absolute nightmare of an experience. Went in because my cat had eaten some nylon string that you use to tie a helium balloon with. After 6 hours of waiting, the vet told me that he used a form of morphine and Hydrogen peroxide to get my cat to vomit out the string. She didn't vomit it out. When they brought me my cat back she was covered in urine. I asked the doctor if he could clean her up. He leaves the room and 30 seconds later returns, after he wiped her down with a paper towel. Then asked if i had brought her in a carrier. YES! Like 99% of the people that bring cats in, i did as well. After 10 minutes of simply finding the carrier. He returns with my cat in her carrier. And he tells me "yeah she didnt puke up the nylon string but just keep an eye on her poo for the next few days." Then i go to pay and im slapped with a 115 dollar bill. HOW?! You gave her hydrogen peroxide, which is basically water with a little bit more oxygen in it. Then a tiny bit of morphine. And a paper towel to wipe her off from being traumatized. Whatever. I payed the bill and returned home. After properly cleaning my cat off i let her have some time to herself. After about an hour i notice worms. Yes, worms coming from my cats anus. Seriously?! She didnt have worms before and NOW she does. Absolutely ridiculous, we have NO other pets. The cat stays inside and my girlfriend and i NEVER come into contact with other cats. I dont know what happened up there to give her worms but now she has them. I called the vet and told them what happened. The response i received was "oh yeah, sorry about that just come in tomorrow morning and get some meds for that, we're about to close." I guess thats what i get for spending that much on my cat for absolutely nothing. This has been a horrific experience for my cat, my girlfriend and myself.

I really do not understand the reviews. Everytime I go here, the parking lot is packed. They work with many rescues and have one of the longest running practices in Jacksonville. You get what you pay for in animal care and San Juan Animal Hospital takes care of my two dogs and cat. I am most impressed by the vet techs, who are all friendly to my pets and who also work together as a team. The doctors are the best part of the practice, for sure, and they are really good at what they do. I know one of the doctors has a special place in his heart for my dog's breed and he always jokes that he is planning to take them home with him, when I am not looking. Just great bedside manners.When one of my dogs had a lump on her back, the doctors were able to operate on her, remove the lump, test it and I was so relieved to hear it was NOT cancerous. If costs are a major issue, I know they are important to me too, you can always look at the pet insurance options offered. Pet insurance is affordable and worth it for when your pet needs it. San Juan has a number of great carriers, but you will want to speak with them on what best fits your need. They often times run specials for vaccinations, so you can get a lot of good care there, for not much, and rest assured it is the best care you could get for your pet.
