We were new to the area, when my doc came down with an acute illness on the weekend. They told me to come right in and began treatment within the hour. The illness was resolved by Sunday afternoon. The Vet and staff are all very nice and good communicators. Highly recommended. Read Less

I brought a very sick about 4-5 week old kitten. I arrived after 7am. I was told by the nurse who was on duty that morning that the doctor wasn’t coming in till 9am. So I waited for the doctor. A little before 9am, I went back in. The nurse weighed my kitten who was lethargic, then took us to another room where she took his temperature. She wrapped him a warm towel cause his temperature was low. She then told me that the doctor should be in in a few minutes. Then she left. Around 9:15 am or so, my kitten, Mahal, passed away. As soon I realized he stopped breathing, I started hollering for someone to help. Finally another nurse came and took Mahal away. Seconds later the first nurse came and told me he’s gone. I asked her several times if they tried to revived him. She keeps telling me he’s gone. I cried and sat in my car for about 20 or 30 minutes and cried hoping they either call me or come out and tell me that they revived him. Then they sent a “thank you for coming in” email and offered me to download their app. Really?? My kitten died and you saying thank you. I know they send this to all those who visited them, but Really. I was hurting and still am. I see his lifeless body every time and I see him and remembering the weeks I had him. They could have done something for him. If the doctor was there, he could have helped him. This was the worst experienced I had ever went through. This place deserves NO STAR but seems I can’t post unless I give it al least a star. I will let everyone know what happened. This may be a business to them but to us, our pet(s) are our love ones. My wife and I took our beloved cat, Maldrin, to Dr. Gutta because he'd lost weight and was drinking more than usual. Dr. Gutta examined him thoroughly and knew immediately that it would be one of three things. He explained everything to us and communicated very well to make sure we understood everything. He tested for the three things and diagnosed Maldrin with diabetes. Dr. Gutta detailed Maldrin's treatment plan and answered all of our questions. He didn't rush us in and out. He was patient and thorough. Due to Maldrin's history of UTIs, Dr. Gutta wanted to test him for any infections, but also wanted to send out a sample to be tested for which kind of antibiotic would be the most effective if he does have an infection. Other vets that we've gone to have just cycled through antibiotics, charging us for many that never worked and instead made our cat sick. Our last vet didn't test for everything and Maldrin's brother died because of it. His brother wasn't diagnosed until it was too late and he died at the vet that same day. We'd been taking him there for months prior. Yes, SMAH is expensive. But you get what you pay for. I didn't feel like Dr. Gutta was exploiting my love for my cat in order to charge us more. He was being thorough and making sure Maldrin gets the very best treatment. Because of Dr. Gutta, Maldrin will be okay. If you want a vet to save you money, go somewhere else. My old vet in another city saved us money, but caused us the greatest grief of our lives thus far. I would have done anything to save my cat. He was sick for months with the same symptoms as Maldrin. Dr. Gutta is knowledgeable and experienced. He knew immediately what to test for and he didn't cut corners in Maldrin's care. It's costing us an arm and a leg, but we don't care because Maldrin is alive and he's going to be okay. Money comes and goes and it's all the same. Your pet is an individual and there will never be another like them. So if your love your pet like we love ours, if they have a serious issue, bring them here. Dr. Gutta will do everything in his power to care for your baby. Oh and I can't forget the wonderful techs! They were very kind and friendly. They were sweet with Maldrin and he liked them very much. Above is my original Google review for SMAH from February of this year. We've been back many times since then and I'd like to add a bit more now. Maldrin went into kidney failure and his treatment plan was revised. We've had both Dr. Gutta and Dr. Sri caring for him, and still recommend them over anyone else. They work with you as a team- the vets and the owners. We had to leave for a week for work and we boarded Maldrin with them. He was loved and expertly cared for, and he looked healthier than ever when we picked him up. Kidney disease is terminal, but Maldrin is doing very well now because of the treatment and care we've received at SMAH. We just moved out of state and are so sad that we had to leave these wonderful doctors and incredible techs. Maldrin grew to love them all. Read Less

I love the staff here! They take such good care of my baby (10 year old cat, but still my baby). She has really bad whitecoat syndrome and has peed herself the last two visits, but they took out the pad and washed it for me and returned it. Dr. Gouda (I'm aware that's not how you spell his name, but I can't recall the spelling) is very kind and great at explaining the situation and calming down a helicopter cat mom like myself. The office was sparkling clean. Everyone I encountered was polite and listened well. The doctor was very thorough and I felt my chi was given excellent care. My vet was out of town which is how I ended up at SMAH. Needless to say, this is my new vet from now on. They were wonderful. These are genuinely good people who care about animals. I would recommend Dr. Gutta to anyone who views their pets as part of the family. He has personally gone out of his way, at his own expense/time, to help me care for a stray that I found on the way to his office. They have weekend hours with no extra cost. I have taken my dog and cat for their annuals, but also dealt with a case of kennel cough. They have payment options and are very reasonably priced. The average cost of my visits are about $200 with vaccinations/treatment, a plethora of texts and exam.  I have moved around a lot and been to several vets, but this is hands down the best experience that I have ever had with a vet. I just feel so lucky to have found someone with a big heart who takes great care of my babies. As long as I live in Jacksonville, I will never go anywhere else. Read Less

This is the best vet I've ever dealt with. My cat has been to many vets, as he has always had a lot of medical issues, and Dr. Gutta is the best I've seen. He is very attentive, explains everything thoroughly, and is very good with animals. My cat was diagnosed with diabetes, and Dr. Gutta examined him from teeth to toes to make sure he got the proper diagnosis. He then worked out a treatment plan with us and showed my wife and I how to administer our kitty's insulin injections. The vet techs were also very nice and welcoming. They loved on my kitty and even helped carry out his prescription food and medicines. They also offer health plans with free unlimited office visits and discounted procedures for a low monthly payment. Over priced and not first rate knowledge.  My dog has demodex.  Along with overpriced fish oil, shampoo, conditioner and antihistamines he prescribed ivermectin.  It cost 70.00 for a thirty day supply.  Afterwards I found you can get a 30day supply at the feed store for 10.00 no prescription needed.  Ivermectin is dangerous if not given in the right dose and has to be given daily.  The zinger is, this is not even the most progressive treatment for demodex.  It is now being treated with Bravecto and is about 39.00 for one pill that last three months.  So I paid top dollar and got second rate info.  My bill for that visit was 339.00, comparisons say it should have been half that amount.   When I questioned why he did not prescribe the Bravecto.  First he was not aware of that (poor knowledge) Second because it was because they don' t carry it.  Very disappointing. We are in Jacksonville for 6 week while my husband is getting treatment at UFShands. Our dog got sick Friday afternoon and was still unwell Sunday mrn. I called around noon on Sunday and they said they could see him immediately. They were very professional and efficient. Dr. Sir Kancharkuntla was very through and covered all the basis. I just adopted my dog Gordon and noticed he was having some issues so i knew i needed a vet soon. Looked at the reviews online for SMAH and saw good things so i called to make an appointment. They told me I was able to come in right then! Gordon clearly hasn't been to the vet too much and it was evident that he didn't like it, but they were very calm and treated him as sweet could be! I'm so thankful for how professional and delicately they handled him because he was really trying to get away. They gave him exactly what he needed and the doctor did an excellent job of informing me on what they were doing, what I needed to do, and everything that was going on with Gordon. I saw some comments on here about prices being too high but I thought it was well worth the money (and it wasn't too high in my opinion). I have a beautiful, sweet, loving Red-Nose Pit, she's been my best friend for years now and she needed to be seen. We looked around to see who would gladly take her and San Marco sounded lovely. My dog is people person, she loves to meet new people but because she's a Pit she's automatically looked down on like a criminal. They took her in with smiles and gave her some shots and flea medication with no problem at all! This will definitely be Hopes new permanent vet! And just a bonus we had the best nurse ever! I highly recommend San Marco Animal Hospital.  I just moved to the Jacksonville area from California, and had to bring my little Chihuahua in today because he was attacked by another dog.  My neighbor told me to go to No Homeless Pets, and I went there first.   I promptly left there because it reeked of cat urine!  I went to San Marco Animal Hospital because it was close by.  After receiving prompt, courteous service, I will be taking my pets here from now on.  Dr. Qualls was fabulous.   He was kind and caring, and treated my little dog with great care.  When I picked my dog up, he smelled great, and was wrapped up in the blanket I brought him in.  Dr. Qualls had placed tubes in for drainage, which I thought was a great idea.  San Marco Pet Hospital was a breath of fresh air after visiting the No Homeless Pets office! I moved to Jacksonville nearly 2 years ago. Finding a new vet from my precious fur-baby was very stressful. I tried a couple of other places before I found San Marco Animal Hospital. The staff and vets are extremely caring and knowledgeable. They made me always feel that my pooch was part of their family as much as mine. Sadly, my angel was diagnosed with cancer. The team always called to check on him and kept up with his condition. Sadly, he has passed away. Since then I rescued another dog and wouldn't consider taking her anywhere else. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because their prices are a bit high. However, they do price match meds and other supplies. So that definitely helps with the cost. Read Less

The war understanding at a very difficult time for me, the doctor in particular came across as genuinely sympathetic. Unfortunately I to euthanize one of my dearly loved cats. They explained the process and the reasons with with as much empathy as possible. A couple weeks later they followed up by sending me a very nice card, it's surprisingly enough to contain the handwritten sentiment. I'm not sure if it's standard procedure or if one of the employees there genuinely noticed the pain that I was in. But I appreciated it. The Gift Giver a customer of San Marco Animal Hospital I understand paid full price for the cards... I was told when I tried to pay by San Marco Animal Hospital: "We no longer accept those Gift Cards.". Great no date of any sort on the card....Florida has laws that cover purchased gift cards such a Groupon, Local Flavor, Retailers and Restaurants that state they must retain at least the paid for value.  San Marco Animal Hospital refuses to honor their gift cards... Cons, exorbitant prices, including recommending procedures that aren't necessary, Charge double for medication prices more than other veterinary clinics, such as for 15 anti-inflammatory Rimadyl type medication $30, Neosporin for dogs $30, antiseptic for dogs $30.also be very wary of the roving veterinary doctors who work weekend hours and aren't normally affiliated with San Marco  animal hospital. I find the condition of the office overall extremely dirty, I'm afraid to put my dog on the ground and inside of the office. They also have the veterinarian review the pricelist with you while in the examination room, although that's nice somewhat, it's more in the vein of a car salesman trying to get away with charging you for undercoating and rustproofing. Generally felt taken advantage of. Recommend Coastal Veterinary on Beach Boulevard or affiliated veterinary emergency center four after hours or weekends on Southside Boulevard. Read Less

I found a puppy on Pritchard Road. I stop to pick her up and notice she was injured in her back legs. She old not even stand up. I took her home and it was a Sunday so the only place thta I found open was this vet. When I called them they where not willing to help this puppy. What a shame that some vets only care about their pockets and not about a poor injured puppy that someone a$$hole threw out on the side of the road. Read Less

I had an extreme emergency with my cat late on a Monday. Dr. Qualls was very kind and assisted us even as they were getting ready to close. He and his wonderful team were able to save my much-loved pet. They have given my cat excellent treatment and all of the technicians have treated him with kindness. THANK YOU, DR. We had a stray cat ( Mister Mister) that we have been feeding at our work who became very sick and was suffering, I called a different vet office and they wanted to charge $140.00 to put Mister Mister to sleep. We could not afford to do that, So I called San Marco Animal Hospital and the nurse who answered the phone told me to bring him up there and they would take care of him. I brought Mister Mister there and the lady (wish I would have gotten her name) was extremely nice and looked him over and let me know that it was his time and they would take care of him. This has got to be the BEST ANIMAL HOSPITAL! Thank you so much for being so caring and loving to our Mister Mister. You are Angels on Earth! I chose this vet, because they were open on Sundays and offered payment plans to ease the financial burden of a new puppy. I chose the most expensive plan as they told me it should cover all of her care for the first two years. There have been additional fees I was not told about until after services were rendered and unnecessary recommendations which led to unnecessary charges. I wish I had gone to St. Francis. The staff is sweet here, but once my contract with this vet is up I do not plan to return. Read Less

Very overpriced. Took a stray there for dewormer and after puppy shots the bill was $300. Two weeks ago we helped a puppy stray and fostered it. Had similar treatment at our local vet and it was less than $100. Only reason we took this stray to San Marco is it was open on Sunday but that is not an excuse to be so expensive. It defers people from trying to help strays because they can't afford basic pet care.Read Less

Dr. Fyfe is the best! He goes above and beyond with all of his patients. He genuinely cares for animals and has the best bedside manner. Over priced!!!!!! Took dog in that was only having issue with loose poop. It was like going to a used car salesman. Tested for everything under the sun, even though the dog was not acting sick. I just wanted to make sure that she was not getting dehydrated. We changed her food and thought it was because of that, that her stomach was upset. $470 later they wanted to sell us $70 dog food and confirmed that all there unnecessary tests were just that unnecessary. They tried to scare us into thinking that our poor pup was very sick. These people should be ashamed of themselves. This is why so many dogs end up at the shelters. Read Less

One of the best vets I have been to! I took my kitten to Riverside Animal Hospital for a possible eye infection and I wasn't impressed by the office, the vet, or anything. I was not happy at all. I decided for the yearly exam and shots, I would take both of my cats to San Marco Animal Hospital. Super glad I did!I called on a Saturday morning when they opened and I had an appointment a few hours later in the afternoon. When we arrived, the staff was organized and the front office was very nice. We were placed in a small room and the Vet Tech took all the information and I showed her the charts from past vet visits. Then, she went to get Dr. Fyfe. He was very gentle with my two cats (who were extremely scared!) and thoroughly checked everything and listened to my irrational comments and eased my mind. Other than being a great vet and being very nice and handling everything very professionally, Dr. Fyfe was very cute and I will go to him from now on ;) About a week later I received a survey from the vet's office. After I completed (I did leave out my cute Dr. Fyfe comment!) I received a personalized message back from Kellen thanking me for the survey. Think twice before going here!  I am writing this review in hopes that others will read it before they go to this clinic.  When it comes to taking care of my pets, cost is not the most important issue. This clinic, though, was grossly overpriced and I was not happy with the outcome of my service for my cat. However, the receptionist, vet tech, and vet were nice and friendly during my visit. They are very friendly at this animal hospital and I never have an issue getting appointments, especially last minute. My only issue is they are sooo expensive. I've moved a lot and used probably 6-7 vets for my 11 year old dog and 7 year old dog and out of all places, this one is significantly more. I feel like they are definitely taking advantage of me. It's important to ask them to go through everything with you before they perform the services because most likely there are a lot of things you don't really need. In the past 4-5 months that we have gone there with about 3-4 wellness visits for the dogs, we have probably spent around 2k. Totally crazy. The only reason why I may still go there is because they are very close to my home and I don't really want to keep changing vets since my dog is getting so old. Read Less

This vet clinic is terrible. The nurses don't know what they are talking about, quoting wrong prices. They over charge for everything and recommend things that are not needed! Dr. Sri is rude and condescending. I see other reviews that say they chose her over a banfield clinic which is funny to me bc she runs her clinic exactly like a banfield. The wellness plans are a scam and they do things according to a procedure, not what's best for the animal. Maybe she runs it like a banfield bc she use to be a banfield dr. I would not recommend u take your animal to Dr. Sri because she doesn't do what's best for the animal she does what's best for her! Read Less

I chose to take my dog here after comparing the prices I was quoted at Banfield. I definitely recommended this vet. I had no issues. I moved to Jax from Oregon less than a year ago and have been worried about finding a good vet for my dog. He is a rescue and does not trust other people easily. My vet on the west coast was the best vet I have ever found and was really great with my boy so I did a lot of research before picking this place. The vet, Dr. Ives and all the techs/assistants were very helpful in answering my many questions and amazing around my dog. They were able to do pretty much everything that needed to be done in the room with me except of course the X-rays. I have had several people who take their pets here recommend this clinic and I am glad they did. Read Less

I highly recommend Dr. Sri and San Marco Animal Hospital! I called with a concern about my cat Bones and they got us in right away. The staff was very friendly, helpful and understanding. Bones was seen right away and he was given emergency surgery which saved his life. They let me come in and visit him during his 48 hour stay. You can tell this business really cares about animals. They let me know how to care for my cat when he came home, what to expect from him and what to look for.They even called a few days after his discharge to check on him:) San Marco Animal Hospital saved my cat's life and for that I am forever thankful! I have called in when my dog was sick and was given an appointment the same day (or given instructions about walk-ins and when is the best time). Friendly staff, who really seem to like their patients. My dog is a rescue dog and has many ""issues"" - the staff allows me to stay with my pet during exams, needles, etc. (I switched from several different vets when I came to Florida, because their policy was that they must take the pets 'in the back' to administer services and my dog was traumatized for days because of the stress of not trusting the staff and not having me there to soothe him). When I explained this situation tothe staff, there was never a problem with my remaining with my dog. As far as I am concerned, the staff is excellent in both the care they give to the animals, and the care they have FOR the animals. Read Less

This is the worst vet I have ever been to and wanted to take the time to warn others so the same thing isn't done to them. My wife and I took our beautiful cat, Beckham in for an exam because he was gagging and choking. We warned we were low income so could not afford unnecessary tests. The vet took xrays twice and said she had to send them out and charged an additional $79 plus the $138 and $48 for the xrays. We then realized she was very youngand untrained as she could only give guesses to what was wrong and needed help reading xrays. We found the lab they said they sent them to and the lab stated there was no record of that clinic or our cat in their system. We left with our cat still choking and the vet saying the ""experts"" saw a mass which she wasn't trained or equipped to remove. The lab never saw them so there were no expert opinion saying a mass existed. Sacred, we took our cat to Affiliated Specialists and paid for an endoscopy and they are trained and very professional. They confirmed there was no masss so our cat needed steroids and other treatment for his condition. Imagine if we had put him to sleep thinking there was a mass. San Marco made up a bill with alot of unnecessary tests we never approved and hung up on us when we called to find out why they lied about the ""supposed"" lab they sent eh xrays to. STAY AWAY!! If you love your cats or dogs, this is not the kind of place you want to take them and make sure you go to someone with better training.U never write these but was so disheartened I thought the least we could do is warn our fellow pet owners in Jacksonville. san marco animal hospital is the vet to go to the price is right and they tell you the truth they dont tell you to come in and you go back to them and all of a sudden your pet has a new problem like other vets do its next to a great bbq place while you wait there are food stores and its just a great area there is a park up the street river as well the vet is very clean and comfortable and relaxing eviroment to be in the staff and doctors are great and respectful i would highly suggest for those pet lovers to go to san marco animal hospital. thanks john austin ferrell if you read this tell them i sent you Read Less
