I do not like this vet at all. Dr.McCall is not a nice vet nor was his vet tech that day, she did not say one word to me. He's not caring nor does he care about animals. Alls he cares about is money. I walked out spending $300.00 for nothing, i am very disappointed. I ended up taking my baby to a different vet that was more caring and didn't care about how much money they were making off of me. My cat that i've for 18 years did not just have a "cold" she was dying from kidney failure. Thank you for making me spend unnecessary money. I appreciate it. Read Less

I first used them when my dog needed an emergency vet and they got her in quickly, she unfortunately passed away after hours of them trying to save her. They told me everything upfront and kept open communication throughout the process. Its reassuring to have that when your dog is struggling to stay alive. Since then I have brought our newest dog to them and have been pleased with their services. The first time I brought a concern to one of the vets(not sure of the name) she seemed to be more vocal about how underweight my dog was than listening to his actual problem. Caring and helpful veterinarian & staff in a very clean environment. Our dog and cats felt comfortable here when we brought them in for their first preventative appointment recently. Dr. McCall had taken his time and thoroughly explained anything medical. Their prices are reasonable and we feel comfortable boarding our little guys here knowing that if anything were to happen, (Heaven forbid) they can be treated since they are already patients here. Dr. Heidi Chupp is incredible! Not only has she treated all of my animals, but I even worked under her for a time as an assistant. Therefore, I really know what happens behind the scenes, which is probably what all animal lovers fear the most... because you don't get to see it. But I know from experience that EVERY EMPLOYEE in that office treats ALL animals with the utmost care and respect AT ALL TIMES, not just when they are being watched. Robin the lady that sits up front to greet people was very rude, she has a facial expression of I am annoyed. She needs to be in the back, not upfront. I called the beginning of the week to schedule my pet annual, and I ask what's the total. The lady states, $185 upon checkout Robin then tells me $214. I inquired and she gave me that look like I I'm not in the mood. Then there was another lady up front who could have been a manager and she intervened. That lady displayed great customer service. My wife and I visited this animal hospital on 4/5/18 and I honestly wish that I could brag about a great experience but I unfortunately can't. We took our 6 ish year old SharPei rescue in because he had been drooling more than usual for a couple of weeks. After trying different food and checking inside his mouth for obstructions and finding nothing we decided to take him in to be checked. The day before our visit as well as the day of our visit his stringy drool appeared to have bright red blood in it so we were pretty nervous as you can imagine. Fast forward to meeting Dr Moody McCall in the examination room and after sharing what information we had, Dr McCall put on some gloves and looked in his mouth for a couple of minutes and looked up complimenting my dog on being a good patient and said I don't see anything. He said that his teeth were bad and he would need to be "knocked out" so they could be cleaned but they couldn't be sure that he could be put under so we would need to come back for some test. My reaction was surprised and being that we had only been in the room about 5 minutes at this point I asked if we could check that today. I told that with all due respect I didn't understand the point of coming back when we had made an appointment for our current visit. I also told him that if his teeth were the problem that we would like to possibly do it that day in case he was in pain. The doctor turned and looked at me as if I couldn't afford it or something and said " It takes anywhere from an hour to an hour and half, I'm not sure if we have anybody.. Besides, you're talking 250-$300." He said that he would give us an antibiotic and we can make another appointment to come back within two weeks for him to be evaluated. I shared my concerns with a lady at the front desk who collected my payment for the 10 minute visit ($77.50 w/ prescription). She was appologetic and offered to share my concerns with Dr McCall. I told her that I had already and he didn't seem to be a concern to him. She apologized again and said they had been really busy. I explained that we had just moved to Jacksonville within the last year and that based on proximity to our home and the great reviews we had hoped that we found our new vet but we didn't need an appointment because we most likely not be back. I have since visited the website and now know that she too is a doctor and is also Dr Moody McCall's wife. I have not been contacted and we are still working to resolve his issue but the antibiotic and some home cleaning of his teeth seem to be helping. Unfortunate that I have spent several hours online researching Gingivitis and Periodontal Disease on my own when this is what I paid the "professional's" to do. As a disclosure we have worked with a Shar Pei rescue in our former state of residency. We have adopted, loved, and cared for two of our own and fostered another for approximately a year previously. Dr Heidi Chup is a knowledgeable, accommodating, and caring vet. The receptionists seem often busy and may appear to be standoffish but they are actually very helpful and caring. My dog recently passed, and I received a card signed by everyone on staff. Best Vet service around. Only complaint is the vet assistant can be rough when handing dogs. She needs to chill out. San Pablo will always have a piece of my heart. I worked for Dr. McCall and Dr. Chupp in the kennels and took care of the dogs and cats that were boarding. I had some health issues and unfortunately couldn't continue working, but I will always bring my fur babies back. Dr. McCall is very kind and thorough. Dr. Chupp really cares about your fur babe and calls immediately when your pet is done with surgery. My dog is allergic to grad and tree pollen, has crazy anxiety about everything, and has a thyroid problem. This is the ONLY vet after several years that could pin point the problems and get her on medication to resolve all of it. We have 1year old twins and they don't bother her as long as she has her medication. She is actually getting to the point now with the increased dose for her anxiety problems that she wants to play again! It's amazing. And the staff has ALWAYS been super helpful and pleasant! I find Dr Heidi, and Dr Moody to be caring, you can tell their love for animals, all animals. Back on Dec 23, 2016, I had to make the dreaded call, and put my precious Ellee Mae to sleep. Hard decision, but I knew it was the right one. Dr Heidi, and her assistant, can't remember her name, sorry, were so compassionate, and their understanding of what I was going thru, helped me a lot. Dr Heidi, explained the process, and although it was still hard signing paper, I felt like they were my family there. With the hugs and kind words. After Ellee Mae crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I left the room, the staff that was there made it even easier. James was so sweet. Then yesterday I had called about my pup Otis, he had a rash and non stop scratching. I was told they were booked up, that day, and Saturday. But they told me they could fit me in that morning, I might had to wait awhile, but I didn't mind. The sweet woman, name escapes me again, was there when I checked out. I can't recommend this place enough. The entire staff has become extended family for us. We have a number of neighborhood cats that we bring in along with our personal cats and the San Pablo Animal Hospital have always been accommodating. I have been taking my cats to San Pablo Animal Hospital for 8 years and could not be more pleased. Both cats have each had one major health problem along the way, and the caring manner of not only Drs. McCall and Chupp but also the entire staff was such a comfort. What I especially like is the personal attention when there is a crisis, and they do not overreact. I like this in 'people' doctors as well. Although I recently lost one of the cats due to illness, I would not hesitate to recommend San Pablo to another pet lover. I have been here a few more times than I like with a sick kitty.  For their regular visits I found this place to be very efficient and reasonably priced.  The staff is very nice and you can tell they enjoy their jobs.  I'm a little disappointed in the answers that I got regarding the aforementioned sick kitty.  I felt like neither of the vets wanted to give a final diagnosis of the problem.  I don't know if they just didn't want to give out bad news or if they truly didn't know.  I think my kitty got treated very well while in their care but I'm not exactly sure what to expect now that she is home?  I wish the vets would have sat me down and given me the "talk" if the kitty really isn't going to recover. San Pablo has been treating my 5 dogs for 3 years now & I cannot begin to say enough about them. They are always courteous, informative & take the time to listen to any issues.
