I took my 6 month old puppy there and he was scared and they asked me to put a muzzle on him and I did. Dr. Carlson immediately had an attitude towards my puppy and towards me. He did growl at her but I had complete control of him. The vet tech and I held him while Dr. Carlson examined him. She made it perfectly clear she didn't like my puppy or me. The doctor here (I believe we saw Dr. Carlson) cares and isn't there to up-sell you on unnecessary services like a used car dealer (unlike some other local animal hospitals who shall remain nameless). I feel like I'm repeating myself here but -- You can tell the doctor and staff both CARE and are just out for the best interests of the patient. I moved her over 2 years ago , did my research on area veterinarians near me!! I chose Coastal based on the reviews.  I felt at home from day one with my two small dogs (chillongo and renzo). Dr. Bonnie and Dr. Carlson are by far the best Veterinarians I have met thus far. They are extremely accommodating , and take care of my pets as they were thiers! It is obvious all the staff there love animals and love what they do!! They don't run unecessary tests or price gouge, which I have been ripped off in the past from other clinics mainly the big chain companies!! I know when I go there my dogs are in good hands! I recently moved to PSL from the Midwest and needed to register my kitty with a new vet.  I chose CAH even though it's a bit further from my home.  I gave them her records, they scanned them and completed my registration on the spot - a + point.  They gave me an appointment in a few days - a + point. When I visited with her, the assistant handled herself very professionally. Dr Carlson quickly assessed that my cat was too stressed (read spitting and hissing - her usual demeanor at the vet) for an exam, so we talked about the plan for her care - a + point. Dr Carlson prescribed a med that would reduce her anxiety for her next visit, refilled her Royal Canin food and also prescribed Cosequin - a + point. Dr. Carlson is the rudest vet I have ever met. She spoke to me so rudely when I told I couldn't afford any more expensive tests. We had already spent more then we could afford with no results. We took my dog to another vet at emergency vet on us1 near Prima Vista the next day and they were so kind.  We eventually had to put our sweet dog to sleep because she wasn't diagnosed in time to be treated. She was wonderful with him and even found us a specialist she thought Coconut needed. So let me start off by saying how absolutely friendly and caring this place is. We just moved from philly, and my dog got sick, rushed him to the emergency vet (it was a Sunday) and was diagnosed with FUO (fever of unknown origin) and $1000 later.. my dog continued to have a fever of over 104, I ended up at coastal, dr Bonnie came in and you could tell right off the bat she actually cared, long story short, she kept him overnight and pretty much saved his life! Spoiled him and kept me updated throughout the night through text! I don't think she will ever understand how thankful we are for her! My dogs are like my kids and to me, she saved one of my kids!! The Dr's and staff are so compassionate and understanding. We had to let our little Cinnamon cross the rainbow bridge earlier this year and even though I had worked at a vets for 13 years and had been around it this was our first pet that we had to make the decision on and go through it and Dr Mitchell and Tammy were so sweet and understanding and even though it was a Saturday and we were the last appointment they let us take our time to say our goodbyes which helped our hearts feel a little better. Dr. Bonnie is amazing! She took the time before the visit started to play with my dog and make him feel comfortable with her. She didn't rush us, and answered every question we had. The other ladies working there were super sweet as well. The assistant that had to hold my dog down while he got his shots was fantastic - instead of pinning him down, she put his arms around her neck and hugged him tight. After going to Palm City Animal Clinic (terrible don't ever go there) and them practically abusing my dog, seeing how the girls at Coastal treated him was such a delight. During an extended visit from out of town, my elderly kitty got progressively worse as her age got the better of her. I finally accepted the fact that she could no longer function with any quality of life and brought her to Coastal  to be euthanized. The staff could not have been more helpful and caring and ensued that the entire process was peaceful and without pain. It was one of the hardest days of my life, and I am very thankful that they were so understanding and took such care of my "baby". We had tried three other vets in Port Saint Lucie before we found, and will keep, Dr. Bonnie Mitchell. She and her vet husband own Coastal Animal Hospital. We found her knowledgeable, caring and showing concern for our dog who was in the process of loosing a toenail. They got us in right away, even though we were new to her practice. She told us our options and let us decide which we would do. She explained what it might be and also suggested blood work, if we wanted. When Coconut continue to lose nails, Dr. Bonnie Mitchell went ahead, with our approval, to have medicines made up for Coconut's size to see if we could cure the problem creating the toenails to die.
