I went to Dr. Latimer at MedVet Jupiter because I heard from a few people that he was one of the best surgeons in the area. My regular vet advised to have it surgically fixed. I researched & scheduled with Dr. Latimer for my 2yr old working Dutch Shepherds breathing issue. I drove her 6hrs round trip to what I thought was one of the bets surgeons in the area. They did an eval (at rest) that I paid around $400 for and diagnosed her with a retroflexed epiglottis. Surgery #1 was performed (epiglottopexy). This surgery was around $1,200. She was rested for 4 weeks as per vet instructions. She went back for a quick post op appt a couple weeks after surgery. Everything seemed fine (she was still on rest). I slowly transitioned her back to work and quickly realized that same breathing issue was still present. The surgery did not improve the issue at all. I emailed the clinic (with videos) and we went back for another eval (keep in mind, this is a 6hr round trip for me each time). This time, I was told to fast her so that they could do the eval under exercise. I arrived at the clinic. They placed an IV and we went out back to exercise her. It didn't take long for the breathing issue to surface. We quickly took her inside for the eval under sedation while she was breathing hard. He then diagnosed her with left side laryngeal paralysis. They did not charge me for the eval, but they did charge me for the sedation meds which were around $150. Dr. Latimer assured me we would get this figured out and get her fixed. We scheduled the left side laryngeal tie back surgery and I made another journey for that appt. This surgery was was around $2,700. I took her home and rested her for just under 8 weeks per vets instructions. He also OK'd a post op incision check with my regular vet in order to avoid another 6hr round trip. She ended up with some fluid collection on the incision site and was put on antibiotics. It cleared it right up & there were no other issues. After almost 8 weeks of rest I slowly began to transition her back to work. I, again, realized that nothing had been fixed the exact same breathing issue was still present. I emailed the clinic and sent video of the issue as I had done in the past. I had always gotten a response. I received no response from them so after about a week, I called. The front desk assured me that they would show Dr. Latimer the video. Dr. Latimer called me and told me to bring her back in for another eval at no cost to me. They scheduled the appt and told me to fast her. I fasted her and drove the 6hr round trip again for the eval. We exercised her and Dr. Latimer (along with another vet) observed her breathing outside. We then went back to the room and he proceeded to tell me that he was not going to do any more surgeries on her and in short... he doesn't know what's wrong with her. He advised me to go to UF and sent me out the door. He didn't even TOUCH my dog. So, here we are.... another 6hr round trip for a 15 min appt to tell me to go somewhere else. He could have seen the same thing on the video I sent 2 weeks prior and picked up the phone to tell me that. Instead, I took an entire day off work and drove 6hrs for nothing. This entire ordeal was nothing but stress, a waste of (A LOT) of my hard earned money & my time. Not to mention putting my high energy working dog through unnecessary stress, sedation and procedures. Don't waste your time & energy with this surgeon. Do yourself a favor & just go straight to UF. Read Less

Last week, I brought in my 12 year old puggle Roxy, who wasn't eating or drinking, which was unusual for a dog whose happiness revolved around food. Dr. Garry was extremely nice and made sure to figure out why Roxy wasn't feeling well. Dr. Gary gave us the news kindly and provided us time to think about how we would like to proceed. The pet emergency let us spend as much time with Roxy before proceeding which was very considerate. My parents and I highly recommend anyone with a pet emergency to go see Dr. Garry. It was one of the toughest days of my life to see my best friend Roxy go. I wouldn't want to live the day again but If I had to I wouldn't want to go to any other vet except Dr. Garry. Read Less

They killed my dog! I would give them -1,000,000 points if I could. My dog went in breathing really fast and spacecoughing they said "she has a little bit of fluid on her lungs will keep her one or two days and she'll be fine" the next thing I know it's 14 hours later and I haven't heard from them so I called them they go check on her and found her dead in the cage. They only gave her Lasix only for the tiny bit of fluid out of her lungs but did nothing to calm her cough down or slow down her breathing. So she breathed and gasp for air for 14 hours. She's only 12 pounds and her little heart couldn't take it and she died. I didn't get to say goodbye! And when I asked them about it acted like  she was it a heart failure the whole time. Again they told me she has a tiny bit of fluid on our logs and she'll be fine. Breathe really hard and fast and see how it makes your heart feel. Do that for 14 hours! You will die also. I've spoken to several vets and they were supposed to give her something to calm her down and relax her up. They basically put in a cage and ignored her and then lied!!!  Beware are they are murderers! Read Less

Early one morning a couple of weeks ago my pug Sam was having a stroke. We knew it was time to put him to sleep. He was almost 14 and hadn't been himself for a couple of days.  As we rushed to the vet in tears we we were welcomed by the staff at Jupiter Pet Emergency.  They took Sam right away to stabilize him so we could say goodbye.  As he gently fell asleep in my arms I knew we did the right thing.  I don't know who helped us, but they made a very difficult morning a touch better.  I expected a really big bill, and it wasn't bad at all. To top it off, we received a beautiful sympathy card signed from 5 staff members.  Thank you Jupiter Pet for being there right when we needed you. Read Less

I have been bringing my dog, Lucky here for acupuncture for a year and have very pleased. Dr Yang is awesome! I'm sure the acupuncture experience is quite odd and scary for the animals she treats, however she is so great and calming, and is very pleasant to work with. The care, concern and experience from her is top notch. The facility is neat and clean, and staff are very pleasant from the moment you walk through the door. Seeing as my experience is only with acupuncture, that's all I can speak for however, there's always a steady flow of clients and everyone seems to be pleased with the care and expertise of the doctors and specialists. My dog was really sick and took him to this place. The first time they took him and I hope did an X-ray of his stomach. I did get those results but due to them not allowing us to go with the dog, I am not sure if theses tests were his. He got a little better than went downhill again. Due to the time, we went there again and I did trust them. I got a urine test while waiting which had blood in it. There was a dog that they saw before mine that had a neurological disease and he dragged his paw and it needed dressing as he ripped the nail out. When they put us in a room, there was blood all over the floor and when I pointed it out they admitted that it was from the previous dog but did not attempt to clean it up. Told me the urine had a growth and that we should do a blood test as well so we did agree. The vet told me that he would call us with the results. When I did not hear from the vet after four days I called and they couldn’t not find the results at first. Took the girl about 15minutes after that to come back on the phone and tell me that the urine test showed that the growth had cleared up and to continue on the medication. I could not understand how the same urine test that showed a growth could have cleared itself up. I then asked for the blood test result and she stated there was none. I asked for the test to be emailed to me. The test was collected the day before I went to the vets and had the wrong name on it. I emailed the facility a few times no answer. I left it a few days hoping that the vet would call back. On the Friday night (6days after the tests). I called and asked about the urine test and the blood test. The receptionist told me to wait and she would get the vet, she came back and hung the phone up on me. I called back and asked for all the tests to be emailed to me. When I received them they all had someone else’s name on them so they were not my dogs. I called back and she told me that #he did not know where my tests were but the vet would call me within half an hour-no call and I stayed up for four hours longer in case they did call. I called again Saturday and was not nice. The vet did call me back and stated that they were my dogs tests they just put the wrong date on the urine and the wrong name on the tests. Before this I asked if they had a client by the name they had on the results and they stated they did and gladly told me breaking confidentiality. They gave me some more tablet but charged me Lot of money for them and again they did not help. Took him to my vet, told them what happened and about the blood in the urine. My dog peed while there and said to my vet that there was blood in that, he looked at it and knew straight away what was wrong. I paid around 1,000.00 for a vet that did nothing. A few weeks later I got an email from them with the same results and they had changed the name on them but not the date of the urine test. Isn’t that fraud? I emailed and asked for the money back for the testing at least and they responded and apologized, but Would not answer my questions and the next day the office manager after I asked her again to refund my money and to answer my questions stated she was sending my emails to there attorney, which has an aol account and I could communicate with them. It has been numerous weeks now and no reply from anyone. All they want is your money and don’t care about the animals Read Less

Took our kitten to Dr. Mark Garny. After $250 worth of xrays and exams, he determined her hacking and inability to produce a fur ball or object meant she had a 'scratch in her throat'. If he had listened to her labored breathing, he would have known her symptoms were an upper respiratory infection. 2 nights later, she was in agony and wouldn't come out from under the bed. Took her back and this time saw Dr. Esvel Vanguas. After doing my own research, I told her it was either early signs of Asthma or an upper respiratory infection. Within 5 minutes, she confirmed it was an upper respiratory infection which can be life threatening if it goes on too long. Another $110 later, we got the correct meds and our kitty's hacking is almost gone. I wouldn't not recommend Dr. Garny but the staff there is very, very nice as are the facilities so we would go back if we had another emergency and we would use Dr. Yanguas again. Read Less

Our dog, Elvis, had an eye issue and we went to see Dr Colitz. She was very kind. She helped remedy the eye issue. A few weeks later we had an emergency on weekend and she recommended an emergency clinic on pga that helped but did not get all the answers. We brought him to Dr. Colitz, she consulted/collaborated with other vets to find the best way to help. Our dog was near death. His liver and pancreas were enlarged to the point of impairing his breathing. He was struggling and we were devasted. She took the time to treat him as if he was her own. That is all an owner can ask for. Two weeks later and he is much better. He is on prescription food, medication and supplement and is doing well. She explained that a month into it we will need to do another ultrasound and blood work to see what changes there are and it’s not cheap but it’s also not ridiculously expensive. Our dog is elderly and we know his time is limited. Knowing your vet will take the time to consult with others to get it right and to keep you updated during a difficult time is comforting. Again, the kindness and patience she exhibited during the days of crisis made all the difference. We really appreciate her help with our little Elvis. She has helped and has given us more time. We have also used her husband Dr Latimer for knee surgery on one of our other dogs, Red. Red does not like going to the vet. Dr. Latimer handled it like a pro and Red is doing well. Overall, I prefer this specialty vet. Their new place is large and clean. I recommend and pet owner consider their services. Read Less

I took my dog in for an evaluation- 2nd opinion due to limping/lame on LEFT REAR...UPON DR LATIMER DOING A CONSULT /EVALUATION on my DOG .He stated and NOTATED on the Medical NOTES that:" UPON PRESENTATION, SAMPSON IS LAME ON THE LR".... He suggested a "THR"  a TOTAL HIP REPALCEMENT FOR THE LR.I scheduled his Pre-op work, blood, getting measured for the implant, xrays, etc...for the following week. Upon picking Sampson up, I scheduled the THR on 11-30-17.. I drove back to the MEDICAL office I work at and called Samantha the receptionist..I have been keeping a medical file on Sampson and I had requested that she send me the initial consultation that was done on October 27th. She agreed that she would send it to me via EMAIL... I received it shortly after our call.Day of Surgery.. Sampson dropped off at  8:00 am, upon leaving I was told that it would take approx. 3-4 hours for the surgery and they probably would get started around 9:30. I was alarmed when I received a phone call at approx. 10:20am.. It was Dr Latimer, he stated he was having trouble getting the implant to fit and that the femur bone wasn't long enough and he almost broke it trying to force the implant?!?! I was confused and a little in shock as he proceeds to tell me.. He had to close Sampson back up and do a CT Scan they would probably do the second attempt a few weeks out.. as they had to order another implant .. Now keep in mind HE MEASURED HIM & DID XRAYS PRIOR TO THE SURGERY.. So they could get an implant that is patient specific...I was told to pick Sampson up on Friday.. I met with the Surgical Nurse and Dr Latimer, he assured me the new implant would fit and the surgery would be successful..Since Sampson has had a hip issue, I purchased a RAMP for him to use to get into my SUV,I asked the surgical nurse if I could go and pull my SUV around, and have HER put him in using the sling as they suggested( I thought Sampson might get to excited with me being )Wanted to leave putting him in the truck to the professionals.I stayed in the Drivers seat and she loaded him in.He laid  down the entire time, upon me getting home I took the Ramp out and tried to assist him out... I SCREAMED in horror to see the RIGHT HIP WAS OPERATED ON!!!!!THEY REMOVED THE WRONG HIP!!!    I immediately called the office ... the Surgical Nurse answered .. I was crying and I yelled to her .. You took OUT the WRONG HIP!! IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE THE LEFT.. She said hold on.. She returned and I quote "DR LATIMER SAID BOTH HIPS WERE BAD , SO HE THOUGHT HE WOULD operated on THE RIGHT SIDE FIRST!!!!!! I TOLD HER TO GET HIM ON THE PHONE. she said he was in surgery and would call me back.He called me back, with a belligerent , condescending tone and attitude... He started the conversation.. WHATS THE PROBLEM ...???.I told him that he operated on the WRONG SIDE! IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE THE LEFT..THEN I TOLD HIM WHAT HIS NURSE SAID.. well... this is when he started yelling at me..He said he never was going to do the LEFT.. that I signed for the Right on the pre-op PW and that he NEVER TOLD his Surgical Nurse what she stated to me.I was hysterical...I told him I was getting OFF the phone..NOT ONCE, NOT A SINGLE PHONE CALL CAME TO ME TO CHECK ON SAMPSON THE ENTIRE WEEKEND.We went up to the office 2 weeks later to get stitches removed.. I went inside while my hubby waited outside with Sampson..as we were early for our appt.I want to the front desk & I spoke to Samantha  I requested to SEE Sampson's file ..I wanted to see where I gave permission to operate on the RIGHT... TRUST ME I KNOW I DIDNT.. but I wanted to have everything that took place in the surgery room in my records.. She says okay give a few minutes.. I wait 5-10 minutes.. I finally tell her I want to see the records.. Where I put PEN to PAPER..I tell her I DONT WANT COPIES I WNAT TO SEE THE ORIGINALS.She proceeds to tell me that they HAVE BEEN SHREDDED!!! I FREAKING LOST IT!! Not only this is an open file... By law you have to keep records a minimum of 3 Years!!I went outside to tell my husband where Dr Latimer is now standing beside my SUV, he proceeds to tell my husband he did an FHO.. I NEVER AUTHORIZED, SIGNED ANYTHING GIVING PERMISSION FOR THAT!!  I told my husband what happened with the office notes and he says he will go & get them and that we are leaving!! Magically COPIES APPEAR NOT ORIGINALS APPEAR! WHEN I REVIEWED THEM I was HORRIFIED to see that the MEDICAL RECORDS WERE ALTERED!!Apparently DR LATIMER OR SOMEONE IN HIS OFFICE CHANGED THE INTITAL CONSULATION TO READ " UPON PRESENTATION SAMPSON IS LAME ON THE RR"!!!!!!They must have forgotten or HE didn't know that Samantha EMAILED me a copy (using their email & ip address) back in Nov !!It is ONE thing to MAKE A HORRIFIC MISTAKE A CUT THE WRONG LEG.....IT IS ANOTHER THING WHEN YOU FRADULANTLY CHANGE MEDICAL, that is DELIBRATE & INTENTIONAL !!!!! I contacted the DBPR & Vet Board...IN JAN 2008 HE was FINED.. I WANT HIS LIC REVOKED! Read Less

My smart, fun loving, 12 year old dog Joey a mixed breed maltese/pomeranian was diagnosed with diabetes. UGH! Of course adding insult to injury, he lost his vision within weeks due to the diabetes which is a very common occurrence. The thing was, he just didn't adjust well to not being able to see. He was depressed and confused. It was not like having the same pet any longer. His personality and quality of life took a turn for the worse. Along with the stress of trying to take care of a diabetic pet and then adding blindness to the mix, things were just not going well at home at all. We had to practically hover over him 24/7 so he wouldn't have an accident. His life has always been one of privilege, and once again he somehow got lucky and hit the lotto with Dr. Carmen Colitz! Of course due to his age, I was apprehensive as to wether or not to put him through a surgery, and yes I knew it would be a lot of care post-op. But after meeting Dr. Colitz and gaining the education, information, and support of knowing that I could get his diabetes managed (she is an expert on that subject) and that she would make him see again, I knew I had to go for it! Boy was I glad that I did! He got his life back! I know he is in his senior years and he has health issues, but I couldn't sit back and watch him everyday living in the dark. It was not working for the both of us and I was stressed out and feeling I was letting him down in the end. There is not one person when I bring up her name that does love her and the expert level of care and manner that she will treat your pet. No exaggeration...She treats them like they are her own! The surgery was a success and my little baby Joey is no longer in the dark. Also, I would like to give a shout out to her staff as well. A wonderful team effort from the front to the back! My wife and I noticed that our Shih Tzu was having problems urinating so we took him to his vet. At which time they performed an examination and ran some tests to find he had a lot of kidney stones in his urethra and bladder according to the x-ray. Our vet informed us they did not have a full staff as it was the weekend and understandably, a lot of them already left for the day. Our Vet office called the nearest Animal Emergency Hospital due to the urgency to ensure timely treatment was received. The Jupiter Pet Emergency & Specialty Center confirmed they could perform the emergency surgery as our fear was the bladder may burst! We arrived at the Jupiter Pet Emergency & Specialty Center and spoke to Dr. Davidson who was on-call, who re-examined our dog and gave us a quote. We told the doctor that we can bring him back when he is scheduled for the surgery so that he is comfortable at home instead of being placed in a cage where he will be stressed while waiting for surgery. This would be a good place to note the dog is a very spoiled member of our family and has never needed to be caged. The doctor confirmed that our pet was the next in line for surgery scheduled for 6pm and they needed the time in between to get the dog prepped. We agreed to leave him there and wait for their call to let us know how the surgery went. Later that night had not yet heard anything from the emergency center. When we called to check the status, my wife was told there were other emergencies and the dog would be going into surgery within the next half hour. I placed a follow-up call and the person on the phone said that he had not gone into surgery since there were other emergencies and could not give me a time when that would happen. Understandably emergencies coming in must be prioritized, but at that point I told the person on the phone that it is was not right for them to say he would be in surgery at 6pm and 6.5 hours later nothing had been done. The person placed me on hold until the on-call veterinarian (Dr. Geraghty) got on the phone. Instead of explaining what was creating the delay in emergency treatment, he began arguing and yelling at me on the phone stating that there were other emergencies and my dog was not one of them and the more time they spent answering their phone to explain the status of our dog, is keeping them back from the emergencies. I was surprised as to how rude, disrespectful and inconsiderate his response was. Three witnesses listen to the conversation and was surprised on the tone and attitude of this doctor. Anyone who treats their pets as family members could relate to how frustrating it was being set back time and time again while the dog sat in a cage with no relief. After listening to the Doctor, I told him that I wanted my dog back, a full refund and I would be coming to pick him up in 10 minutes. His response was clear - "come take your dog!" after which, he hung up. My wife and I picked up our Shih Tzu and brought him home. He was in a lot of pain so not long after, I took him to another Emergency Hospital. I communicated what had happened with the other emergency hospital as they performed the same examinations and tests. At the second Emergency Hospital, they was honest, patient and explained that they may not be able to do the surgery until Monday since staff is not available and it would be my choice to bring him back or take him to his vet. I told them that I will take him to his vet on Monday since I will have to wait and he would be more comfortable at home. They provided the appropriate pain medications (injection and tablets) to provide the dog some needed relief. I would not recommend Jupiter Pet Emergency & Specialty Center to anyone! I understand the after-hours staff may be minimal and emergencies must be prioritized. However, during a stressful time for both my dog and my family, I would hope more patience and attention would be provided to assure the families their pets are getting the appropriate care. Dr. Latimer fixed our 4 lb Yorkie's two luxating patellas and a torn ACL 6 days ago. Our little girl is up and walking around. Slowly, but she is walking! All of the staff took amazing care of our baby. We were so pleased with everything about this practice. Professional, courteous, knowledgeable, reasonable pricing, and CARING! You can tell that everyone here cares very much about the animals that they see. I asked several people that I trust who I should use to do Luna's surgery, and every single one of them said Dr. Latimer. Thanks to him and his staff, our dog will have many years of being able to run and play just like other dogs, instead of limping and being carried a lot. Our dog recently became very sick, so we took her to Jupiter Pet Emergency & Specialty Center to be treated. We are not from Jupiter, they were open and had excellent reviews on Yelp so we brought our dog in.They were able to give initial diagnoses after running a few expensive tests, they kept her overnight to observe, and when we picked her up the next morning, she was on the mend. Now a week later, she is back to her old self.We really appreciated the doctor's deep insight and ability to help diagnose our dog. We were very happy with our experience, from a medical standpoint ... but...They appear to be understaffed. We waited almost three hours for the Vet to review our case. The odd office hours meant we had to pick our dog up at 7:30 AM Monday morning and we had a billing issue where we could only call after 5:00 PM during the week. The experience with their Office Manager was dreadful; possibly due to being overworked. She was very rude, inconsiderate, and when asked if we could make a specific change to the way our account was billed she flat out said, "No, the books had been 'closed'". Undeterred, we spoke to another employee who said it would be possible to change the way our account was billed but we would have to visit the office to process the change. When we visited the office, the Office Manager had a very bad attitude and made me wait for an hour. Eventually she was "nice" enough to address my concern, but then due to frustration she locked herself out of the computer and was unable to help. I left the office without the issue resolved after three days of trying to make a simple change.Honestly, I gave up trying to change this because dealing with the Office Manager is akin to dealing with a horrible rash. It is not something you want to do, but sometimes you have to do it.Overall, I would recommend Jupiter Pet Emergency & Specialty Center. Their medical staff is excellent and their treatment is spot-on. Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Latimer and this review is 4 years overdue. He performed 2 luxating patella surgeries and 2 torn ACL surgeries on my Bichon, Toby Wan Kenobi. Toby had 4 surgeries over the course of 7 years due to genetic issues. Dr. Latimer is the most compassionate and kind doctor I have ever come in contact with. He never pressured me for surgery and simply loved on Toby. I cannot say enough good things about him. Just go in for a consult and you will totally agree with my review. I don't trust many people and put all my faith in Dr. Latimer. Just look at my Bichon. Read Less

Our dog Layla passed away on Christmas day. We were in town visiting family and didn't know where to go. We found them online and when we arrived with her they were patient and kind as they explained our options and even gave us some time in a private room to say goodbye to our sweet girl. We decided to have her cremated and returned a week later to pick up her ashes. We were so surprised to have a beautiful wooden box, with a rose, certificate of cremation, a note from the clinic and best of all, a mold of her paw print. We are beyond touched by the care taken by a vet clinic that had never seen us before. We have suffered greatly this week as we morn the loss of our pet but were comforted by such great care shown to us and Layla by Jupiter Pet Emergency. Thank you. Read Less

I have never written a review but I thought it was necessary for this occasion. My 3 month Siberian Husky was found on 10/30/16 in pain at around 9:00 pm. We rushed her to the closest Pet ER in Boca, from their they highly recommended Jupiter Pet Emergency & Specialty Center. Later that evening we transported her to Jupiter Pet Emergency & Specialty Center. We found out our puppy needed special orthopedic surgery due to breaking her femur & that Dr. Latimer was the best. I couldn't agree anymore. All the staff took very good care of my baby Luna & even though its been less then a week shes doing amazing. Dr. Latimer even squeezed in Luna's surgery last minute on Monday afternoon, the day after she got hurt. She still has a long recovery, but I can't thank Dr. Latimer enough for helping out my baby. Read Less
