We think Dr. Saylor is very good vet - we have been bring our pets to him for 14 years, so it is disturbing to read some of the over-the-top comments posted here portraying him as a cheap & heartless animal doctor.
Yes, he can be a little brusque at times, has been with me, but I've noticed it is when I haven't done what he instructed me to do or I wasn't listening when he was instructing - same as our pediatrician used to do when our kids were small .
He obviously loves animals, is certainly not doing it for the money - few vets are - , and I think it is the people who annoy him, especially people who wait until the pet is seriously in trouble before bringing it in - same as a pediatrician who treats children whose parents have waited too long to bring them in.
Like a pediatrician, he is trying to help the helpless who have no voice & doesn't really much like people who violate the trust of those who depend on humans for their survival, and he probably sees this type of person a lot. Then to top it off, these people can't or won't pay. Says right on the door "Payment is required when services are rendered" - just like your doc or dentist. And, sometimes, like all of us, he is having a bad day; cut him some slack.
He is always nice to us, and we come prepared to pay because we know we will have to & it won't be cheap - no doctor is. Try forgetting your debit card at your local hospital when you go in - bet you don't see a doctor. Medicine is a business, pets are expensive (no such thing as a free dog), and to get bent out of shape because the man wants to be paid is unreasonable. He has been burned and knows when the client walks out that door owing money, odds are he will never see what is owed to him.
I think the staff is wonderful & caring to animals - they certainly aren't there for the money. Some of the staff have been there for years, which says a lot for how the clinic is run.
Dr. Saylor is a good, knowledgeable, caring vet who knows his business. If you are looking for a "Foo Foo" vet, with trendy decor in the clinic, one who has you fill out a form asking: "on a scale of 1-5, how much are you willing to spend on this animal" (had this happen once), don't go to Northside. You will get good, matter-of-fact, no-nonsense care for your pet from a good vet & staff at what we consider a reasonable fee, which you should be prepared to gladly pay.
I apologize in advance if this offends the reviewers on this page - I don't know both sides of the story and some of these people are obviously upset with the service they got, justifiably so or not. Just feel we needed to present our views and experience in defense of a clinic that has never been anything but kind, caring & professional to our pets and to us.
