I tried calling to ask about declawing our year-old kitten who's been beating up our older cat and tearing up carpets. I never even got to speak to an employee after five minutes of listening to the automated hold recording brag about how 'great' this office is. Words can not express my feelings about the wonderful people at the Polk County Animal Hospital. But I will try. A lot of animal clinics now a day put the all might dollar before the animal. Here at the Polk County Animal Hospital​ that is NOT the case. These amazing people actually care about your pet. Without there true love and support of my dog Parker. He would not be here with us today. I will never be able to thank you enough for you kindness and understanding in regards to Parkers situation. I called because my brothers dog was in respiratory distress and he's out of the country. I was trying to find a vet closest to his home. Your office turned me away and told me to drive to the animal hospital near Bartow (approximate 35-45 minutes south in the rain). I explained he wouldn't make it that far, but apparently that was the only option according to your office. I found a vet halfway willing to see him....unfortunately it wasn't soon enough and the dog passed. I'm completely disgusted with your lack of care, concern, and compassion. Read Less

Pretty disgusted. My sister dog was having breathing problems and they were closest vet by far. She called and they refused to see a dog with breathing problems. The dog literally died within a half hour on way to another vet that was farther away. Way to lose business... or was it because you guys close in a hour and half? So much for caring about animals as much as money. Read Less

Vet care pretty good but can't get same doctor, phone calls are almost never answered, goes to phone answering. Do not help clients with requests. Customer service is lacking. Roadblocks for clients request is the norm. But if you give them more money you can get some accommodation. Read Less

I found a great vet and staff for my new puppy. Dr. Howel was so amazing to my sweet Bella. I am sure Bella loved her. We received excellent service, and the front desk staff was very helpful. Relieved to find a great fit for our newest family member. Read Less

I had the worst experience at this place; having to put down my dog is already a very emotional time. But my dog had lived a great life, over 16 years! I came to this place for support and to try to make this process as easy as it can be, but instead it was a complete nightmare. My dog was in liver failure, his tongue was black and decaying, could not walk, would not eat or drink, and he had a foul smell because of his decaying mouth. I held my dog which lost so much weight, his eyes yellow and at the moment, I knew, he was in so much pain!! The doctor wanted to run a few test on him to confirm his diagnoses. I called back around 3ish to know the status of my dog. She told me she had great news for me, so of course I was very happy and drove directly to the hospital. Once I was in the room, she told me my dog was barking at the other dogs, eating and drinking, walking around, they gave him a bath and the foul smell was better. At the same time,she told me he was in liver failure, his tongue is decaying out of his mouth and that is the reason for the foul smell coming off of him. At this point, I was alone and not knowing what I should do. But I had the same situation happen to my other dog with liver/kidney failure. We paid for the treatments and few days later found him dead in his bed. I did not want my dog to suffer anymore, I didn't want to be selfish and prolong what eventually was going to happen in the next few days/weeks. I requested the doctor to put my dog down. The doctor replied back "You need to give your dog a chance, he wants to live, you should do the treatments I told you." At this point, I am in shock and crying uncontrollably. The doctor left the room and came back to drop my dog off in the room with me. The doctor completely lied to me, my dog still had blood coming out of his mouth, the smell was like decaying organs my dog could barely walk or even recognize me.The assistant came into the room, and I told her to please put my dog down he's in so much pain; cant afford the treatments (cost in one month 2500). The doctor assistant said no, the main doctor didn't even come back into the room after dropping my dog off. Afterward, they said I own $160 for the test and I need to take my dog home. I gave them my card, while crying and shaking. I had to pick up my suffering dog off the floor and carry it to my car. I felt so lost and confused, my dog was in so much pain. I end up going to another vet hospital in Lakeland. I carried my dog into the building while blood was coming out of his month, asking for help. So Thank You Marcum Road Animal Hospital for helping me!!!! My dog was over 16 yrs old, doing the treatments would have helped him for a week or two while he suffered through life. Polk County Animal Hospital DID NOT CARE helping animals especially about my dog who was in so much pain and suffering  but all about getting money out of my pocket. I love my dog so much, my heart is completely broken, the decision-making was for the best interest of my beloved dog. And POLK COUNTRY ANIMAL HOSPITAL is a DISGRACE!! Absolutely amazing vet and staff. We chose this Vet because the Marcum Road Vet made us wait an hour and the care was not that great. This vet saw us minutes after we arrived and was polite, professional, personable, and truly enjoyed her job.She was able to educate us on possible problems with our dog and cat and even brought in a medical book to show us even more possibilities. She took her time to complete full and thorough examinations and seemed like she truly enjoyed her job. The Vet even called us twice within a week to check up on our animals. Amazing staff and a clean facility. I was very impressed. My wife and I will be coming back here for annual checkups and any other issues that may come about. Read Less

This place took excellent care of my dog. We had an emergency and my dog needed to see the vet right away, they were booked solid but the receptionist spoke to the vet and she agreed to sqeeze us in. Ended up he needed surgery which they did. I am deeply grateful to the vet and the staff @ polk county animal hospital for all their help and compassion. Read Less

Changed because of boarding costs at another N. Lakeland clinic. Only regret I have is that we didn't start here. Courteous, caring staff and doctors as well as affordable. They have always quickly processed the more aggressive or intimidating pets when we've been there (or got the rest of us to the back). I would highly recommend them on my experiences. Read Less

We called around 5:30pm today and they fit us in at 7pm. I found the staff courteous and knowledgeable. We have to be a bit frugal with all our spending with 3 kids. I was presently surprised with the cost of our after hours visit. We are changing vets :) Read Less

Just moved to the area, needed our cat to see a veterinarian for a followup visit from the emergency clinic, they couldn't get us in... I worked at a clinic in Knoxville TN and NEVER turned anyone away. Unfortunately for them, they never gave us a chance to become clients with our furry children that only get the best care, no matter what the price. Read Less
