6-21-19: We have two America short hairs(8.5 years old) and a Spitz dog(7 years old). We have been going to Banfield Largo since they were born. When we first went to Banfield Dr. Thom Carlisle was their Chief of Staff with many decades of experience and we simply loved him. We pay for a Premium Wellness plan for all three animals. Over the years we started noticing a large turn over in staff and ended up with Dr. West as our primary Vet. She turned out to be completely irresponsible with a degree from Asia somewhere and virtually incompetent. One year she never did any blood work on our female cat! Certainly not someone to trust with a life. Dr. Carlisle returned and we thought all was well. A few months later, at 7.5 years old, our Spitz was diagnosed with late stage diabetes. So bad he was ketoacidosis in one month and totally blind in one week. After requesting his blood work ups, Banfield Largo never mentioned anything about his apparent declining condition to us even through his blood results clearly reflected his gradual decline! Shame on us for not paying closer attention. Luckily, and after nearly $12K in total emergency treatment costs, we saved his life and Dr. Baldwin removed his cataracts and saved his eyesight in one eye at Blue Pearl. Banfield Largo has a new COS Dr. Drummond. She seems to be competent but has inherited a clinic lacking experience and robust clinical protocols. They don't even take your animals out to potty during their stay and they defecate on themselves! Their latest Vet of the month Dr. Piete was educated in Granada and should never be trusted with your animal's health. She screwed up our dog's blood glucose curves twice, misdiagnosed our cats as having high grade murmurs and completely missed that our male cat required four teeth extractions despite paying to have his teeth cleaned every year. I simply don't think Banfield Largo has the proper equipment or properly educated people to take proper care of your animals. They farm out and refer you to 3rd party resources for most everything, so why use them? Your resulting out-of-pocket expense remains the same and with a private practice clinic, at least the Vet has his name on the door with some real skin in the game. Our new Vet at Pinellas Animal Hospital(PAH) heard no murmurs in either cats and used his xray machine to isolate our male cat's sad teeth. He had been suffering you're a long time!!! Our dog seems to have made it through the hardest part of his diabetes/glaucoma treatment and we are moving his care into the hands of PAH. PAH is an amazing facility and so is Blue Pearl. We are so fortunate to have them so close to home. The moral of the story is to trust but verify everything any vet does for your animal just like you would do for your own personal healthcare. Banfield as an organization is not capable of attracting, equipping or retaining great talent. Matter a fact, they are pretty much the bottom of the barrel and shame on us for not finding this out sooner. I personally research each of them and they are not qualified. Find a vet with his name on the practice and stick with him from the beginning. Educate yourself about your breeds and don't be afraid to ask stupid questions. At Banfield we thought we were paying for 'preventative care' but, it was a scary, expensive waste of money and almost killed our beloved furry friends. Shame on the Executives that own Banfield and the lack of a proper mission statement that is both enforced and constantly improved upon. They need to go on Undercover Boss and see for themselves. They said it will cost me $ 3,000-5,000 to fix him,I love my pet but we don't have that amount. So I called Largo Banfield and met Dr.West she squeeze us into her over booked schedule and removed the stone of the poor baby for less than $800 all included. Our pet is doing great and Dr. West is highly recommended we love her. Read Less

Please don’t take your dog here. They take your dog into a back room without you and you can see the people training in the back looking clueless and multiple people look through the glass at you like they’re abusing your dog (they aren’t but could be or holding him down and scaring him a lot) and hoping you aren’t watching. They make a point of taking your dog out of view.. The main reason not to take him here is their false advertising and blantant lies. I received a text saying my dog was diagnosed with gum disease or whatever and that’s not true. Corporate texts you like your dog is sick and need teeth treatment when they are perfectly clean and healthy. I called and get this.. they have a scale of 1-5 for teeth health and can’t give a dog a zero because.. EVERY LIVING THING HAS BACTERIA IN ITS TEETH. so my dog was given a 1 for clean teeth and still they send texts to everybody trying to trick you out of more money to bring your dog in for a possible tooth disease that could be happening but definitely isn’t because a low rating is good. I can’t wait until Banfield inside Petsmart gets sued for this. It’s not much different than false advertising and is as close to a straight up lie as you can get since they HAVE to mark your dog as having “possible tooth decay” what a joke. If you’re looking to save money check for vets with a free first visit or ones that let you be with your animal and you can trust. Not some back room doc trying to show new people how to do more cheap work while getting paid less than a normal vets office. You get what you pay for.. Read Less

I have been coming here for all of my Chewie's life (7 years) and I've never had a problem. Dr.Drummond is great! As well as the receptionist and vet techs. All the staff is very friendly and I feel like they are always warm and loving to my fur baby.   They always give a follow up call a few days after an appointment to make sure everything with your pet is going good. Prices are standard. Many complain they are over priced but I've done my research and they are about the same as other places. Read Less

Very disappointed in what use to be an amazing team I loved to see has turned into another money hungry vets office with little desire to help it's customers. In the last recent years we pulled away because the cost was just out of budget for us with how often our animals went, we didn't find it necessary to continue our plans with them. Called today because we found a more affordable vet and needed a copy of my pups records and the lady who answered the phone seemed to be trying to talk my out of getting her records. She said it was a lot of paper and would take a lot of time. Now mind you she mentioned that our dog has only been there 11 times. Seeing as how every time we went her pages were only 2-4 pages each visit..i'm not sure how this would inconvenience her this much. She tried to convince me to just accept vaccination and surgery records. They're my pets records..how dare you try and talk me out of asking for all of them. All in all, i was happy when we had our plan but it's like once you stop purchasing their plan they treat you differently and make you feel like you're displacing them. Now lets see how long it takes her to get my records faxed to me..she said it would take a LONG LONG time because it's so much paperwork. Read Less

Don’t go to this Vet! They rushed me through the entire appointment. I wasn’t able to ask any questions i wanted. And then they belittled me and made me feel like a bad dog owner because I could not afford everything that they wanted me to get. Which they are just trying to get money out of me anyway. Everyone at this hospital is so incredibly kind and I can tell they love animals. I recently brought my dog in late after I came home from work and he had severe abdominal pain. Dr. West stayed late and we were able to take radiographs. Marissa was his technician and she is wonderful! I’m so thankful for how compassionate they were with me and were able to refer me to a specialist for an ultrasound the next day. Torque is feeling much better and I am so thankful the staff at this hospital was there for us that day. The whole house is now on poop patrol 💩 hoping that his GI foreign body continues to pass without surgery. Read Less

PetsMart Banfield  has no integrity. Please do NOT buy the "Wellness Plan" they tout, Ive had multiple negative experiences at two locations. Two weeks ago I went in for my dogs shots, location on Ulmerton recommended Lyme prevention  but it would need a booster in two weeks. I explained that my wellness plan was expiring and I wanted my pup covered from heart worm for 6 months  (she gets a heart worm shot bc she throws up the monthly chewables) and updated Rabies. I was told my plan would not expire until the end of the month, but per the vet that there were too many shots to administer to the dog at once. Even though the dogs heartworm would expire I was told by the vet it's ok the dog should be ok for two weeks with no protection. Yes I had a family member with me that witnessed the entire visit heard the same thing. So after multiple assurances I would still be covered, I proceeded. Well  I went in this morning for the Lyme booster (to complete the series) and for the heart worm shot and guess what my plan was no longer active. The receptionist told me that Lyme prevention didn't need a booster and then "corrected" herself that it was, staff kept us waiting for 15 mins before we walked out. Now my dog's heartworm expired two weeks ago. They lie to your face and waste your time. I had another near poisoning event with my dog which the vet at the other location at Gulf to Bay didn't help with either. Buyer beware time and money waster. Banfeild has lost my business for any dog I ever own. Plan Canceled. Read Less

Explanation from tech?- " must have come out the other end" -meaning from scapula to neck? Worrisome. Then when I received a letter in the mail saying they were gonna send me to collections if i didnt pay i got in contact with them and they said that you can cancel any time but you have to pay for the whole year. So i ended paying for 7 months that i did not even use there service. Also we called just the regular petsmart and they told us that they thought you could cancel anytime or just stop paying and it would be cancel so clearly there is a misconnect here and needs to be fixed! We have taken our animals here for several years. We agreed to use their 'Wellness Plan' which allows them to deduct 42.95 each month from our checking account.  Our dog is almost 18 years old. When we took her in for her annual they were unable to perform the majority of the services due to her advanced age. They could not anesthetize her so no dental cleaning was performed. The only thing she's received is her annual vaccines and a general exam which included a CBC. She is at the end of her life now, given that she's 17 years and 9 months old, That's extremely old for an Australian cattle dog. Last night she had a horrible night, Couldn't settle and peeing every hour on the hour. So we inquired about euthanasia services this morning  only to be informed that it wasn't covered under the 'plan' and that we would have to pay out 180.00 plus tax for that service. Although we would have received an additional 30% discount via the plan.  (That's only 36 dollars off the retail price. So it's pointless to allow them to deduct an additional 42.95 at the beginning of the month.) So I tried to cancel the wellness plan.  To which I was given a run around. I had to call another number to cancel the plan.  Called them and they tried to tell me that I would have to pay an additional 178.00 to cancel the plan! First off, I never agreed to a 'total yearly cost' that would be broken up into monthly payments. I even asked about that when we signed up for the plan since our dog is in advanced years and was assured that it was a month to month charge.  Now that I am trying to cancel it they are acting as if this is some debt and they are trying to collect on a debt.  They refused to cancel the plan unless I paid them the additional 178.00.  I told them I never agreed to that, that I was assured it was month to month. They argued with me. I then pointed out that I never agreed to renew the plan after the initial year, that they automatically renewed it with out my consent. Then the dude said that when I took her in for her annual that I initialed to renew it?!  NO!  I did NOT!  This is completely infuriating!   Having to put your family pet of nearly 18 years down is already an emotional time. I couldn't believe that this creep was going to argue with me about canceling a useless wellness plan!   He then tried to tell me that they had provided over 900 dollars worth of services so far this year and that the plan had only cost me 500.  Which is NOT true at all!  She's only gone in one time this whole year for her annual and they weren't able to provide the majority of those services due to her advanced age. They shouldn't be counting the 'potential' services available as actual services provided.  Ridiculous! Outrageous! And very rude on top of all that!  Do not fall for their "wellness plan" It's a complete rip off! Read Less

I would not bring another one of my animals there, even for vaccinations. Also, their malpractice insurance company would not respond and I got no reimbursement from them. The best I managed was to get out of my contract, and even that required the aide of a lawyer. Read Less

I was shocked that they told me it was so much money. When I finally left there I had no choice but to pay for services rendered. I felt ripped off and embarrassed. My cat still in pain at his tail bone. They could of been honest and told me he just was constipated and didn't need to have all the medications they claimed to give him. Please, do not go there, unless you are rich and don't care about your finances. I make just barely enough money to support myself and my cat. How dare they just have absolutely no concern, in regards to their clients, that do not know what is wrong with their animal and take advantage of the situation. The vets name was Rachel Pratt. She looked me in the face and smiled as she ripped me off and did not do anything for my cat pertaining to the initial visit. Read Less

The receptionist told me :( since we will close at 7:00 PM, this visit is considered as an emergency so you should pay $90- honestly, I do not exactly remember how much she said but I remember it was around $90). My question is: Why they do not mention it clearly in their website? They can simply say we are open till 7:00 PM but if you come after 6:30 PM it will be considered as an emergency visit.Read Less

Banfield Largo has a new COS Dr. Drummond. She seems to be competent but has inherited a clinic lacking experience and robust clinical protocols. They don't even take your animals out to potty during their stay and they defecate on themselves! Their latest Vet of the month Dr. Piete was educated in Granada and should never be trusted with your animal's health. She screwed up our dog's blood glucose curves twice, misdiagnosed our cats as having high grade murmurs and completely missed that our male cat required four teeth extractions despite paying to have his teeth cleaned every year. I simply don't think Banfield Largo has the proper equipment or properly educated people to take proper care of your animals. They farm out and refer you to 3rd party resources for most everything, so why use them? Your resulting out-of-pocket expense remains the same and with a private practice clinic, at least the Vet has his name on the door with some real skin in the game. Our new Vet at Pinellas Animal Hospital(PAH) heard no murmurs in either cats and used his xray machine to isolate our male cat's sad teeth. He had been suffering you're a long time!!! Our dog seems to have made it through the hardest part of his diabetes/glaucoma treatment and we are moving his care into the hands of PAH. PAH is an amazing facility and so is Blue Pearl. We are so fortunate to have them so close to home. The moral of the story is to trust but verify everything any vet does for your animal just like you would do for your own personal healthcare. Banfield as an organization is not capable of attracting, equipping or retaining great talent. Matter a fact, they are pretty much the bottom of the barrel and shame on us for not finding this out sooner. I personally research each of them and they are not qualified. Find a vet with his name on the practice and stick with him from the beginning. Educate yourself about your breeds and don't be afraid to ask stupid questions. At Banfield we thought we were paying for 'preventative care' but, it was a scary, expensive waste of money and almost killed our beloved furry friends. Shame on the Executives that own Banfield and the lack of a proper mission statement that is both enforced and constantly improved upon. They need to go on Undercover Boss and see for themselves. They make a point of taking your dog out of view.. The main reason not to take him here is their false advertising and blantant lies. I received a text saying my dog was diagnosed with gum disease or whatever and that’s not true. Corporate texts you like your dog is sick and need teeth treatment when they are perfectly clean and healthy. I called and get this.. they have a scale of 1-5 for teeth health and can’t give a dog a zero because.. EVERY LIVING THING HAS BACTERIA IN ITS TEETH. so my dog was given a 1 for clean teeth and still they send texts to everybody trying to trick you out of more money to bring your dog in for a possible tooth disease that could be happening but definitely isn’t because a low rating is good. I can’t wait until Banfield inside Petsmart gets sued for this. It’s not much different than false advertising and is as close to a straight up lie as you can get since they HAVE to mark your dog as having “possible tooth decay” what a joke. Called today because we found a more affordable vet and needed a copy of my pups records and the lady who answered the phone seemed to be trying to talk my out of getting her records. She said it was a lot of paper and would take a lot of time. Now mind you she mentioned that our dog has only been there 11 times. Seeing as how every time we went her pages were only 2-4 pages each visit..i'm not sure how this would inconvenience her this much. She tried to convince me to just accept vaccination and surgery records. They're my pets records..how dare you try and talk me out of asking for all of them. All in all, i was happy when we had our plan but it's like once you stop purchasing their plan they treat you differently and make you feel like you're displacing them. Everyone at this hospital is so incredibly kind and I can tell they love animals. I recently brought my dog in late after I came home from work and he had severe abdominal pain. Dr. West stayed late and we were able to take radiographs. Marissa was his technician and she is wonderful! I’m so thankful for how compassionate they were with me and were able to refer me to a specialist for an ultrasound the next day. Torque is feeling much better and I am so thankful the staff at this hospital was there for us that day. The whole house is now on poop patrol 💩 hoping that his GI foreign body continues to pass without surgery. Read Less

PetsMart Banfield  has no integrity. Please do NOT buy the "Wellness Plan" they tout, Ive had multiple negative experiences at two locations. Two weeks ago I went in for my dogs shots, location on Ulmerton recommended Lyme prevention  but it would need a booster in two weeks. I explained that my wellness plan was expiring and I wanted my pup covered from heart worm for 6 months  (she gets a heart worm shot bc she throws up the monthly chewables) and updated Rabies. I was told my plan would not expire until the end of the month, but per the vet that there were too many shots to administer to the dog at once. Even though the dogs heartworm would expire I was told by the vet it's ok the dog should be ok for two weeks with no protection. Yes I had a family member with me that witnessed the entire visit heard the same thing. So after multiple assurances I would still be covered, I proceeded. Well  I went in this morning for the Lyme booster (to complete the series) and for the heart worm shot and guess what my plan was no longer active. The receptionist told me that Lyme prevention didn't need a booster and then "corrected" herself that it was, staff kept us waiting for 15 mins before we walked out. Now my dog's heartworm expired two weeks ago. They lie to your face and waste your time. I had another near poisoning event with my dog which the vet at the other location at Gulf to Bay didn't help with either. Buyer beware time and money waster. Banfeild has lost my business for any dog I ever own. Plan Canceled. Read Less

We have taken our animals here for several years. We agreed to use their 'Wellness Plan' which allows them to deduct 42.95 each month from our checking account.  Our dog is almost 18 years old. When we took her in for her annual they were unable to perform the majority of the services due to her advanced age. They could not anesthetize her so no dental cleaning was performed. The only thing she's received is her annual vaccines and a general exam which included a CBC. She is at the end of her life now, given that she's 17 years and 9 months old, That's extremely old for an Australian cattle dog. Last night she had a horrible night, Couldn't settle and peeing every hour on the hour. So we inquired about euthanasia services this morning  only to be informed that it wasn't covered under the 'plan' and that we would have to pay out 180.00 plus tax for that service. Although we would have received an additional 30% discount via the plan.  (That's only 36 dollars off the retail price. So it's pointless to allow them to deduct an additional 42.95 at the beginning of the month.) So I tried to cancel the wellness plan.  To which I was given a run around. I had to call another number to cancel the plan.  Called them and they tried to tell me that I would have to pay an additional 178.00 to cancel the plan! First off, I never agreed to a 'total yearly cost' that would be broken up into monthly payments. I even asked about that when we signed up for the plan since our dog is in advanced years and was assured that it was a month to month charge.  Now that I am trying to cancel it they are acting as if this is some debt and they are trying to collect on a debt.  They refused to cancel the plan unless I paid them the additional 178.00.  I told them I never agreed to that, that I was assured it was month to month. They argued with me. I then pointed out that I never agreed to renew the plan after the initial year, that they automatically renewed it with out my consent. Then the dude said that when I took her in for her annual that I initialed to renew it?!  NO!  I did NOT!  This is completely infuriating!   Having to put your family pet of nearly 18 years down is already an emotional time. I couldn't believe that this creep was going to argue with me about canceling a useless wellness plan!   He then tried to tell me that they had provided over 900 dollars worth of services so far this year and that the plan had only cost me 500.  Which is NOT true at all!  She's only gone in one time this whole year for her annual and they weren't able to provide the majority of those services due to her advanced age. They shouldn't be counting the 'potential' services available as actual services provided.  Ridiculous! Outrageous! And very rude on top of all that!  Do not fall for their "wellness plan" It's a complete rip off! Read Less

I was shocked that they told me it was so much money. When I finally left there I had no choice but to pay for services rendered. I felt ripped off and embarrassed. My cat still in pain at his tail bone. They could of been honest and told me he just was constipated and didn't need to have all the medications they claimed to give him. Please, do not go there, unless you are rich and don't care about your finances. I make just barely enough money to support myself and my cat. How dare they just have absolutely no concern, in regards to their clients, that do not know what is wrong with their animal and take advantage of the situation. The vets name was Rachel Pratt.
