This place has really changed. Such a letdown! They were my vets for over 13 years. and yet when my cat was in crisis and I called for help I was told they didn't have any openings. I explained how sick my cat was and that it was an emergency, and a very rude guy stated, with serious attitude, "well, we're not an emergency hospital!" They had been the only vets my cat had ever seen, but couldn't find the time to get her in when she needed their help. We rescued a precious Cairn Terrier, who was a "disaster" health wise, named Katie. She had more health issues than I can even begin naming. Dr. Samantha McHenry came to OUR "Rescue". After having her for only a 1 1/2 years, Dr. McHenry diagnosed her with lymphoma. The final day of Katie's battle, I KNEW who would help us help Katie cross the "rainbow bridge". I have been taking my 11 year old Golden here for a few months for laser on his legs.  I was pleased with Ashley the technician.   She was polite and you could tell she really loves the animals.   I returned to the clinic after a couple months and now the office manager Anneke (who I had never seen in the office before) was going to do the laser.  She was so rude and argumentative.   I refused to let her touch my dog.  I called the office to find out her name and the staff member said they weren't surprised to hear about my experience with her.  I will definitely go elsewhere. These guys have serviced all seven of my dogs through their entire life! The smallest one was very sickly when we adopted her but we did not realize just how bad she was. We took her to Midway and they took her in immediately. Dr. Howell and his staff nursed her back to health from almost certain death. For that I am eternally greatful. I've lived here for six years and this is now my third vet since we moved to this area and I'm so glad I gave them a try.It's not easy finding a vet with great hours (SUNDAYS!) coupled with a caring staff. I especially like that they separate the cat and dog patients. Barking dogs make my already-stressed babies freak out.There's a female vet who is a cat lover and treats my baby with such care. I brought her in with a UTI last year, and they performed extensive treatment on her to avoid giving her steroids - something my last vet would always do. The bill was much less than I've paid in the past at Largo Vet on Starkey.  Kitty was healed quickly. Revised with an eye issue, minimal fee for an exam.Will return again and recommend. Read Less

Dr.Howell had been a great person to work with for over 10 years. However, his staff, with the viewpoint of complaints should be taken 300 miles away", and his busy schedule has been horrible this last year. I had to take one of my pets to another doctor as the  "doctor" was not available. She had to be put down...Then I had to reschedule my other dog, because the doctor was not available and after 10 years they couldn't find my phone to call me.I wish Dr the best for the care he did give in the past. However, today again, although I was told by the doctor he could see out rescue pet he did not see her when my wife brought her in because he was busy. Really poor. She took off work to make that appointment. We paid 65 for suture removal, which could have been done for free at shelter and an interns opinion which was basically what wa told by the shelter vet. We came to see your Dr Howell, thanks but no thanks for shifting us to one of your other doctors when you promised me you would see our new pet. I'm so glad I caught onto midway animal hospitals scam before they took even more of my money! I brought my dog in for blood work before she was to get spayed there. I have a 15 month old golden retriever in perfect health. The vet took the blood work sample and I paid my deposit and scheduled her surgery for the following week. About 10 minutes into my drive home the business manager from midway animal hospital called me and informed me that the surgery I was just quoted for would be an additional $150!!! She said that no one in her office was authorized to give the price they gave me (over $500 for spay and Gastroplexy). I was blown away. After 15 minutes of convincing her that this was poor professionalism and bad business practice she was willing to honor the price. I concluded by telling her that this left a very bad taste in my mouth.I wasn't surprised when Monday came along and midway animal hospital called me to inform me that they were canceling my dogs spay because she had serious kidney problems and would need a urinary test and an X-ray. I was dumbfounded - an X-ray for blood work? When I questioned this they fumbled for a reason and said that it was to check for masses. I countered with the fact that they should use an MRI or an ultrasound for masses... Again they fumbled for an excuse. I called midway animal hospital out on the exam and their response was that "although the timing is ironic, it isn't a scam". I sent the bloodwork to two separate vets and they said that the kidney levels were fine! They said they would both be willing to do surgery and apologized for midwa abimal hospitals level of unprofessionalism. They said that the kidney levels only showed slight dehydration (in a golden, in the summer, that drove 45 mins to get to the clinic, wasn't instructed to drink any water beforehand etc.) The other vets said those levels were very common and not a cause for concern or a waste of expensive procedures. I have called midway animal hospital on numerous occasions and have not heard back from their business manager in regards to my refund. They seem to be playing the avoidance game. I will continue to spread the message on all forms of social media and most importantly via word of mouth. In my agility classes, training classes, dogs parks, dog beaches and puppy play dates. No one deserves to be taken advantage of. Our dogs are our best friends and we want to do what's best for them. We can't do that effectively if there is a breach of trust between vet and owner. long-term client there.  glad i am.  dr. howell was a lot younger 25 years ago when me & my animals first started going there, but he's always been a great vet.  he's seen us through many a cat & 2 dogs.  everything from annual check-ups, to emergency surgery, to end of life issues.  they're always busy for a reason.  i also like that dr. h invests heavily in on-site, on-the-spot diagnostic equipment for the animals rather than decore for the pet owners.  finally, i've come to know most of the dedicated staff & think very highly of them. I started using this clinic due to its proximity to my house. However, almost immediately after my first routine appt @ the clinic, I had an emergency arise with my cat. Dr. Cote diagnosed my cat and treatment was prescribed. The following morning @8am, Dr. Cote called to check on my kitty (now requiring insulin twice daily) and to make certain I had no questions with the treatment regime prescribed. We have been going to Midway for years and was very disappointed that when we immediately went to Midway seeking help they wouldn't even look at him. I have had a wonderful experience at this hospital!  First of all, I love that cats (I have five) have a separate entrance than dogs.  The staff are all very friendly.  The veterinarians are honest and do not try to sell you unnecessary procedures, tests and medications!  It is so refreshing to find a vet hospital that truly cares about the animals and their well being.  No high pressure sales at this hospital!  Just good, old fashioned animal care.  The hospital isn't all fancy because they keep their prices affordable.  I definitely recommend this animal hospital. Dr. Howell and his staff are amazing. I had planned to put my 8 year old dog down because of a large tumor that I unfortunately could not afford to remove with surgery. Dr. Howell offered to do the surgery himself for a very minimal fee. My husband is in Afghanistan right now, and Dr. Howell said, "I want your husband to come home to his dog". 4-13-16 WOW! What a bad experience..I have had all my pets in the care of Dr. Howell and staff for many years and loved this office..WHAT JUST HAPPENED! I just stopped by to get my little chihuahua a pedicure as usual and when we pulled in there was 6-8 staff members outside the grooming door..When we got out of the car all staff ran inside and locked the door. a very young rude skinny male kid with black hair opened the door just enough to yell "we are closed" and than locked it again and when I said excuse me I just saw you all out here and I am here to get the nails done.. he said " NO! we were only here for a meeting and we were outside smoking..and yes I was outside too! (who cared if he was one of them, I did not ask).. This kid was as rude as a street punk.. as I turned away and was walking to my car shaking my head the kid was still yelling at my back and I kept walking..I'm thinking OMG!.. Than I got in the car and as I was leaving I stopped the car because the WHOLE CREW WAS BACK OUT THERE AGAIN! "smoking "... I rolled down my window and said quote.. "Your rudeness is uncalled for and you will be reported to the owner"..as I was pulling away a blue haired punk said I am the manager so you won't get very far..LOL LOL etc. wow..I kept going to the street and was waiting for the cars to go by and pull out and I see in my rear view this blue haired punk RUNNING to my car waiting to get out on Seminole Blvd...he sticks his head in my window and says "I am the manager here! (He had already made that clear by the door) and we were outside smoking because we were having a meeting and we are closed whats your problem.. I said "the rudeness".. he said I want to know your name so I can make sure you never have service here again and again I am the manager I will remember your face and will make it happen"...(he must be proud of this and feel empowered by the word mgr)..Needless to say my response was not what he was expecting and than he really went smart ass punk style in my window until I finally got to pull out!!! Wow I had never been called a Fing 'Cu** before... Now because this was so unbelievable you could be thinking was that what REALLY happened?? The answer is YES and there was 6-8 staff members in scrubs who can verify IF they tell the truth to Dr. Howell who will hopefully see this post and ask them. Dr Howell IS a great doctor and that was a shame. (If this blue hair punk is the manager I obviously cannot call the office to talk to Dr.Howell but I will TRY tomorrow... 4-14-16 In response to the "Owners Response" It's your story and you may fabricate any way you wish. My intention was clear in the office and that was to tell and show the REAL version to doc. Was he there when this happened? Is this really Doc Howell? Because if this is him..why not speak to your long time client in person or on the phone? Why hide and why not professionally come out or call? I suspect this is not the doc in fact I would bet it's the punk because doc would not make up his own version on the facts so bluntly given doc being so respected in the community he should care about his reputation if he think my words are false. I went here with my cat because they happened to be open on Sundays.  I didn't know my cat was extremely  sick..I knew there was something wrong and that he had a bladder infection and needed antibiotics.  They did very expensive lab work and the doc told me all of the values were "normal."  I realized even after antibiotics my cat was still off so I brought him to my real vet with the bloodwork results.  Turned out the liver values weren't norma and He was basically in liver failure and turning jaundice.   I spent over $1000 from that point trying to take my vets advice and treatments.  It was too late by then though.  I just think if the doctor at midway had paid attention to all the values and realized the liver enzymes were high that maybe we could've attacked the issue earlier and it wouldn't have cost me to lose my cat and over $1000 to fix him when it was too late. We spent hundreds of dollars and had multiple visits for an issue that was fixed by a talented vet, somewhere else in 1 visit. What a rip off. Had a pup with demodex, so I've been making monthly visits for several months, and everyone in the place is friendly, knowledgeable, and concerned about the health of my animal. Dr. Nutter sees both of our dogs and he and the staff there are awesome. However the grooming place there that is NOT AFFILIATED with the hospital / clinic is aweful. We use to take our dogs there for grooming but they didn't clean the ears and our dog Hercules got a real bad infection in his ears $100.00 to see Dr. Nutter, but that was not the clinic fault and our little dog LiLo had dried soap all over her. DO NOT USE THE GROOMING FACILITIES THERE!!!!!!! Again the Vet clinic there is great, but the grooming service that is not affiliated with the clinic is aweful.......
