Words could never express our gratitude to the Vet & Staff members of this place. We walked in thinking the blockage our 1 1/2 year old kitty Taz was suffering had no resolve. After months of no resolution at another vets and seeing Taz's suffering grow by the day till he was finally blocked we thought we were going to lose him. But we walked in on Memorial Day and they made ever effort to help him. We brought him home the same day and he is recovering. They were honest, kind and more compassionate than any vet I've been to. Yesterday I had the most wonderful experience here! My friend & I rescued a stray with a bad eye infection. I volunteer at the big dog ranch so we took her there but no Dr on duty. I drive by Palms West when I go to the ranch so we decided to try them. Dr Kayla Glassburner took such good care of our little Lady. Lady was given special treatment coaxing her in the back door and even fed her a bit after her exam. No appointment yet Dr Glassburner took the time to give her a thorough exam & we started her shots. She did her heartworm test with results in 10 minutes so we could get her on the meds. The cost was very reasonable for all the service provided. She was very conscious of our financial situation. It renews my faith when I meet people who are dedicated like Dr Glassburner & her assistant. Their kindness was truly a life saver. Read Less

I was a customer for about 12years.After numerous post op infections, incorrect dosage instructions and many missed appointments, sometimes waiting up to 4 hours in the hot car as the showroom has no segregation for the animals. I decided to try other vets in the area. In causal conversations in how they kept their appointments on time and the cleanliness of their facility, I mentioned my previous vet. As many as 4 different vet techs ( former employees) from different offices all said the same thing. The doctors and staff on the night shift are instructed NOT to sent the customers to other 24 hour emergency hospitals but to have them wait in the parking lot for the morning shift to start and save the emergency fees. Which I might add are quite high for the service you receive ( 19 year old dying cat wanting to put her teeth 'So she could pass away easier"). This was the 4th time I've experienced the up sell there on that shift..The staff has been described as disingenuous, cold, bitter, and down right nasty. Perhaps just numb, uncaring and terribly stressed. Which would explain some of the behavior I've experienced. The building in and of itself is filthy compared to other offices that charge similar fees.  Euthanized animals are brought thought the showroom , a common occurrence . Perhaps it was one of those animals waiting in the parking lot for medical treatment the owner couldn't afford the night fee, but had the compassion to make the trip over there in hopes of finding a solution for their animal that was in pain. Leaving an animal in pain for the sake of money is wrong on so many levels and simply cold hearted. Especially when you have the power to ease and comfort. On Dec.26th of this year@5:30a.m. we found our Yorkie had his left eye protruding about 3/4 out of his head, we immediately drove him to VSH on Hood road a 24hr emergency care hospital. When we arrived they were ready for us.They took the dog into surgery and relieved the eye pressure, stitched it closed and did a follow up later. His eye was saved because they had the latest surgical techniques and the experienced staff to handle the situation. Continued post op care was at Paws to Help in Jupiter. Cost? 936.00 VHS and somewhere 300.00 @ Paws. Still very reasonable. No, the mitigating factor at Palms West is money, just that simple. Read Less

I cannot say enough good about this animal hospital.  My dog had a horrible allergic reaction, I rushed her to my vet who tried to stabilize her, but said I needed to get her to the ER hospital immediately.  She recommended that I go to Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists.  I got there and after them ignoring my dog for a half hour, I left and headed to Palms West Veterinary Hospital.  They were amazing.  Right from the moment I walked in the door, the front desk staff was great considering I was a mess!  They took me right in and immediately started treating my pup. All the staff members were loving on her the whole time we were there.   They treated her and sent me home with meds.  A little while after I got home, her snout started swelling, so I called they had me bring her back.  When I got there, it was a new vet.  He was great, he took the time to go over everything with me and gave her additional meds.  They did not charge me for the second office visit, although I would have happily paid it.They were kind, caring, and responsive!  I highly recommend this animal hospital. My kitten got hit by a car and we rushed him to the nearest Animal Hospital due to his heavy breathing. Dr. Tatiane Rodriguez gave us the wrong diagnosis and stressed to us that the likelihood of us being able to fix him was nil and she recommended that we put him down. The next day we went to a different vet and they told us his fracture was simple and could be easily fixed. I am completely outraged at the lack of qualifications and professionalism. If it wasn't for a great nurse (I can't recall her name) that recommended us to see Dr. Latimore in Jupiter my kitten would be dead right now. Read Less

I do not recommend Palms West Vet. My cat was constipated and I brought him here for care. They had my cat in their care for three days, they did not follow our agreed-upon course of action. The final bill was $1,500 and they did not help my cat! They admitted that they were unable to treat him, but that they wanted to keep him hospitalized (which would run the bill up to $3,000 with no guarantee of results) The front office staff is pleasant and they took us immediately as a walk-in. However, they will only give you updates on your pet when it is convenient for them to do so. After hearing they could not help my cat, I said we'd be taking him home, and they became very defensive (going so far as to say other vets would cost more, etc.) My husband picked up our cat, paid the remainder of the bill (which had exceeded the estimate -- but they never called to let us know it had gone over). He told me later they were curt and somewhat rude at the time of pick up. It's my honest opinion that this clinic is in it for the money and will take advantage of people in stressful times. We took our cat to Banfield off Linton (recommendation of a friend) & what a completely different experience! They accomplished in one day (& 1/3 the cost) what Palms West was unable to do. They are professional, kind, caring and never asked for money up front, stating only they'd let us know and would work with us depending on the outcome. Read Less

I never write reviews but I thought it was necessary in this case. It was that unfortunate time in a pet owners life that we all dread and hope to never reach. My family and I had to make that difficult decision to let our sweet 11.5 year girl go peacefully over the rainbow bridge. She was diagnosed with liver failure a few weeks ago and knew it was only a matter of time. We spent as much time with her at home and made her as comfortable as we could until she told us it was time. We had called ahead to the vet to let them know we were coming in and why. It was probably around 11pm when we walked in and were greeted by the female vet tech. We waited about 5 minutes before they took us in the back room. The vet tech came and explained how the euthanasia process happened and our different options to take her home after. We then met with the female veterinarian on duty and she again thoroughly explained how the euthanasia process happens and guided us through each step and what to expect. Both the vet and vet tech were nothing short of empathetic, warm, compassionate, and 100% understanding of what we were going through. They gave us as much time as we needed with her and never once rushed us. No pet owner ever plans this moment and for us we were fortunate enough that that we had 2 very compassionate vet specialists on duty who made this difficult, heart wrenching process so much easier. We were all so distraught we were never able to catch their names. But we thank you. Our sweet girl went peacefully and we thank you so much for that! Read Less

On top of all of this we were in and out in quickly and you really can’t beat the hours that they are open. This will be our dogs vet from now on. I highly recommend this Veterinarian, staff and facility. I don’t normally take the time to go online to write a review whether it’s positive or negative but with my experience that I had with this veterinarian facility and staff I just felt it was the right thing to do because they deserve it. keep up the great work guys! and for those of you looking for a good veterinarian and facility for your love one I really hope you consider bringing your love one to this veterinarian and facility believe me you won’t regret it . When my beloved vet moved to Tampa a few months ago, I thought I would lose my mind. I had 2 lab/terrier mixes that were getting up in years (10+), brother and sister. Marley, the male began to decline rapidly last December. He has always hated going to the vet, mostly because his skin was so tough that getting his blood work was always a nightmare. Lots of blood, sweat and tears (mostly mine). So when he fell ill, I had already made the decision not to treat with any extraordinary measures. I decided to let him pass at home and not make his final days terrifying for him. My son and I took turns staying up all night, fed him baby food and gave him water with a baster to make him comfortable. He finally stopped taking anything without vomiting so I knew the end was near. His last night he began crying out so I knew he was no longer comfortable and I could not stand to see him in pain. One of the hardest things I have ever done was pick up the phone to call someone to help, hopefully to come to the house, but it was very last minute. Since that was not an option, my search began for an office who would come out to my car to administer something to calm/sedate him so he didn't know where he was. Not easy. Plus I was sobbing most of the conversation. Somehow I reached these wonderful people. The girl who spoke to me on the phone was so kind and sympathetic and after speaking to the Dr, said to come in anytime I felt I was ready, just give them a 20 minutes heads up. When we arrived, my son alerted them and a girl immediately came out to access the situation. They didn't know my dog and had to be sure he was failing. She went back in and brought me minimal paperwork to my car. Marley peacefully slept during this time. A few minutes later, the Dr (maybe Dr Grossman?) I was a mess and don't remember the name. He asked if I would like to bring Marley to a patch of yard at the side of the building protected by a hedge from public view, with a small bench. It was perfect. I spread his blanket and lay down with Marley hugging and speaking softly to my baby. The Dr took maybe 10 minutes to prepare and then made sure we were ready, I was never rushed. I told them about his tough skin and they even used a tiny needle even though it took much longer for the process. It was peaceful, quiet, private, one of the most precious moments of my life. The Dr sat there on the ground with me, told me to stay as long as I needed, and even prepared us as to how to prepare for burial (one of my stipulations was to bring him home). I have yet to call to thank them as it is still very hard. I did receive a card a few weeks later with the entire office's signatures. Obviously I need a new vet for Marley's sister and as soon as I am ready, I know exactly where I will go. Sorry for the length of this review but those who have lost a dog/pet can relate to how special this place is.***I would like to add that this cost me less than $200 and was totally last minute Read Less

I couldn't be more pleased with the level of care and affordability. After moving back to Florida we needed a new vet and are thrilled to have found this place. Unfortunately for us one of our three fur babies succumbed to long time health issues and when we finally made the decision to have her cross the rainbow bridge, the staff was extremely empathetic and took the utmost care of us and our little Bella. It was a very difficult time but they certainly helped with that tough moment. We chose cremation and when we got our pup back, she was in a nice sealed box, with her paw print, a paw print pin, a rose and a letter of encouragement. I can't express enough how much their care in a difficult time meant to me and my wife let alone their care and expertise with our other fur kids. Read Less

I took my dog to Palms West in pretty dire shape, with (sorry to be gross) blood shooting from his rear end. His symptoms developed quickly and so I called in advance to let them know what I was bringing in. Upon my arrival the front desk staff dallied around, and when my dog proceeded to have a bloody eruption all over the floor of the lobby, they asked me if I could step outside while they cleaned it up - not into an office or into the care of a veterinarian, but outside on an 80*+ day. Their priority was the cleanliness of the floor, not my dog. We finally made it into an exam room, where I was given a stern lecture about how thin my dog was. I told the vet that while he'd obviously lost some weight from being sick, he was kept lean at the advice of my regular veterinarian because he has terrible hip dysplasia. A few minutes later, after taking X-rays of his whole body, I was again given a stern talking to about the severity of his hip. Um, duh. My dog continued to deteriorate overnight such that I then I had to take him to a specialty clinic, at prodigious expense. Fortunately, the specialty clinic - the Veterinary Specialty Hospital do the Palm Beaches - couldn't have been nicer, kept me updated with calls and emails, and got my pup healthy. I hope I never have another veterinary emergency, but if I do, I don't care if my pet is on deaths door - I will drive the extra 45 minutes to avoid ever taking an animal to Palms West ever again. First off this place was great when it first opened and for the first few years but now it is quickly turned into the worst as the original Veterinarians work less or not at all like Dr. Grossman. First off they try and sell you everything but the kitchen sink. The large group of Veterinarians are unskilled. The facility is disgusting inside and out. Depending on which staff is working they have wildly inappropriate things on the TV in the waiting room like BET. We took our dog here in February and found our dog had a ALT reading in the 300's basically meaning a bad liver. We took our dog back again in June where another test showed the ALT at the same reading or we were told by Veterinarian 1. The next day we went back and Veterinarian 2 said they number from the test the day before was "off the chart" but no specifics. Then Vet Tech 1 told us the most recent ALT was in the 500's. Once they realized we caught them in a lie including verbal and written false statements on the chart they started changing stories and even tried to refuse to give us back our dog although a quick mention of the Sherriff coming for a visit changed that. In the end we will never be going back here and I don't recommend anyone else does. Now some of the Veterinarians here are good but there are too many and all rotate schedules so the odds of seeing the one you want is slim. When you sit in the waiting area the other people you talk to always have a story about which of the Veterinarians in rotation are not allowed to see their pets. Read Less

Last time I went to Palms West vet emergency when one of my dogs had cut himself, I was told they cannot do the stitches because they are not "comfortable" so the dog was left with an open wound till 8am the next morning. I took him to "Community Animal Hospital of Royal Palm Beach" and they had no problem fixing his cut, now there is not even a scar left. By the way Palms West charged me full price for the visit exam etc.. Even they refused to help the dog. Read Less

Tuesday when I was leaving work I got a call from my mom saying my smaller dog Rascal was having tummy trouble, she is 5 and never goes potty in the house, and there was a little bit of blood. I called palms west as that is where she brings her dogs when they have emergencies and they made me an appointment within the hour. I just went home, picked her up and brought her right over. They were quite busy and everyone was very polite. I can't remember the names of the vet and vet tech that helped me as I was worried about her health but they were amazing! She is sometimes skittish at the vet office but the tech was very gentle with her and kept her calm. When we got home I gave her the mess they prescribed and she immediately started doing better. Two days later she is nearly back to normal. I am almost sad I am moving because these people are amazing.Read Less

I am saddened to see so many mixed reviews of this facility.  I have found them to be nothing but kind, care, fair and excellent practitioners.  We have been coming since we rescued our "free dog", Lilo. (Uh, btw, there is no such thing as a "free dog" LOL!)  Don't get me wrong, all of the Vets there have been so fair and tried to save us money, giving us less expensive options and offering informed opinions from which to make decisions.  Our little girl just has severe allergies that need attention and guess what Drs Spillane, Grossman (and another, who's name escapes me) did?  They got rid of her allergies!  No scratching or pain for my sweet Lilo.  Anyway, the staff there are so kind, comforting and reassuring.  They are always quick to say hi or give her a pat on the head as they walk by. Always a kind word and happy to see us...not our check book...US!  It's very comforting.  Fortunately we have not been in any serious medical emergencies, but I have been there when they happen.  From what I witnessed, I would not trust my precious girl with anyone else!  I also know of two people who swear these great docs and techs have saved their dogs.As for it being dirty, I vehemently disagree.  It's stained and old.  It's not dirty.  I sit on the floor with my dog and pet all the others.  They keep it very clean.  Is it Wellington/Palm Beach/Jupiter/Gardens posh?  No.  If you want frills, this ain't your place.  If you want kind, caring professionals, who care about your animal, like you do?  It IS your place.  Each time we go in, they remind us to call any time of day or night with questions and they are there to help you.  Let's face it, they can't bill for phone calls - that's just an inconvenience.  But, that's what they tell you to do, so it's no inconvenience.WOOF WOOF!  (That's thanks and a big lick on your face, from Lilo) Read Less

We were dealing with a very difficult situation with our dog.  He was declining rapidly and since the Vet Hospital is 24 hrs, we brought him there for an emergency.   The Pros :-Open 24 hrs.-Relatively short wait-In house lab work. The Cons: -Very dirty facility, -Depending on day, staff can be very unprofessional (was hung up on while asking about Euthanizing our dog. -Too busy to give full attention (kicked out of a room while being told our dog has cancer)-Over prescribed medication that was not needed and cost 100's. In short, go here if you have to but follow up with a more professional Vet that will take the time to provide the attention your pet deserves.  Their rushed approach can lead to misdiagnosis, or over prescribed Rx's which makes any difficult situation that much harder. My dog has a seizure on thanksgiving. He was 15 years old and the seizures didn't stop - they sent a tech to help get him out of the car and ran blood tests asap. We always knew his liver was compromised but they saw it had stopped working all together. They gave me honest options and advice and from there he was put down the next morning. All that night I called every hour to check on him and they never complained, always had his chart there when his last seizure occurred, how much meds were given and how he was resting. Never complained and was always up to date on the information. The vets (both the night and the morning) apologized profusely for not being able to do more and both were very saddened to have lost a patient. They went out of their way to find a quiet place outside to put him down. The vet even got emotional because he perked up and finally was aware of his surroundings once he was outside - he was himself again once he smelled the air and felt the sun while inside he was not coherent at all. They even wrapped his body and let me help so that I could transport him to be cremated at Twin Oaks. They were amazing.Read Less

I took my dog there because he had a problem with his rear leg.  Saw a staff Dr and he examined my dog and said he had injured his leg.  Gave us some pills, two weeks later, he seemed to be doing a little better.   Then about 6 months after that, he was having problems with both rear legs.  Took him back, saw the same staff Dr again, he said the same thing.   My dog had re-injured his hind legs.  He gave us some pills, and said to keep an eye on him.  He was better on the pills (because they gave him pain pills) but then went down hill after he went off.  So now I'm thinking, two vet apps at $400 each visit, my dog is still not doing well, we decided to go to another specialist vet.  The new vet looked at my dog, and in 5 minutes had diagnosed torn CCL's in both hind knees.  The first one was torn at the first visit that the staff Dr missed.  Since we did not know it was torn we did not get it repaired the first time.  Then, my dog ended up tearing the second one (the 6 months later visit)  because he was favoring that leg as it was the good one.  Because of the their mis diagnosis both knees had to be done.   So all in all, PWVH ended up costing me $6000.I went back and spoke to the staff Dr about it and he said my dog walked just fine, there was no knee problems present.  I said how do you even know, you did't even examine his knees.  The second opinion vet looked at his knees first thing, then looked at the X-rays of his hips. I will say, for the basics, this office is very reasonable and performs just fine.  I do not go there for anything even remotely complicated anymore.  All the office staff is very nice and accommodating, I'm just disappointed in one of the staff Dr's. i came here by recommendation of a friend and i couldn't be happier with the services provided to my cats and i. like everyone else has said, the staff is extremely kind, knowledgeable and patient. it's a bit of a drive, but well worth it considering what other vets charge for an office visit alone. palms west charges $38 initially with a free followup visit. to touch on what another yelper said about a certain dr. kathleen spillane, i'm going to respectfully disagree. dr. spillane is patient, kind and informed. she cares about the well-being of your animals and that is reflected by her clinical practice and bedside manor. she takes extra time to speak with me about my concerns and always asks if i have any questions during the visit, and encourages me to call back at any time if i have any issue. as for the "unnecessary tests" portion of your comment, it's important to have baseline labs to work from depending on the issue your animal is presenting with in the first place. you have to look at the reasoning and rationale for labs and other diagnostic procedures- would you start on a course of antibiotics without a bacterial culture if the infection called for it? there are many different angles the vets are working from that you may have not considered. you can always opt out of "extraneous" tests, just keep in mind what information may be gained from them, which is better than a shot in the dark. luckily, there are many different vets on staff for you to work with and work with you, all with their strengths and weaknesses.

Read Less

They were so abusive ushered me outside the vet was like a dancing little fairy disgusted by the diarrhea. How did this man make it thru medical school if he can't handle Great Dane diarrhea. I confronted him and asked for his colleagues notes from the night before he was obnoxious and abusive, I took my dog to his regular vet got antibiotics for a stomach infection. Read Less

Very dirty! The room was filthy that we were placed in. Used IV bag hanging in corner. Table that had scale on was so dirty it was thick with goop and hair. Hair all over floor, tufts of it blowing all around by fan. Brought for dog limp to back leg. vet checked dogs leg by feel. O.K. offered NSAIDS, OK , when asked about downside of NSAIDS told blows out kidneys and will need bloodwork. 200.00, needs xray 200.00, plus NSAID 100.00 = 500.00 Must come back to check kidney function as NSAIDS very bad on kidneys. HUH??? So I left and paid the 40 dollar visit fee. Came home, took a shower and gave the dog a bath. I will keep him in his pen to rest his leg for a week and see. I would not go back there. I've been going here since Dr. Grossman was the only vet. If I could give more stars I would. They staff is very pleasant and helpful in every way. There was only one incident when my lab was misdiagnosed by one of the vets and put on medication that he did not need. But it was all worked out when we found the source of the problem after being evaluated by another vet in the office and who I have requested to use for all my 4 legged kids to this day. All the veterinarians are knowledgable and want the best for our pet. They are very caring and prices are reasonable. I recommend them highly. Read Less

Was not upfront of TOTAL COST! Was told $250 for X-ray and visit w/o treatment. I said ok. showed me me X-ray of my cat's broken hip (cat was able to walk, just limping a bit and pain if touched around the area) they recommended surgery at either 1 of 2 places . No problem there. Get to desk and now my total is over 100 dollars more than the original quote. They decided to give me 3 days of pain and anti inflammatory meds without my approval and waited until I was checking out to tell me ( already placed meds in my hand before telling price) Wtf $388 dollars later and didn't even treat my kitty. We've opted for no surgery and to cage heal instead. So far my kitty is doing great , healing just fine! ( surgery is $1800 and there's no guarantee the kitty won't have limp and have issues) I think it wrong they just gave me meds and charged me over 100 for them without discussing the price to me. Awful, price. Be very careful because they take advantage.  I took my beagle there after a dog fight, she had 1/2 wound on her tight that got a infection overnight. Our vet is in Tequesta so my thought was to find a vet close to home once we just move to Loxahatchee. They want to charge me up to 730 to clean her wound, blood work, flush her system, things that had nothing to do with the injury. I was shocked with the estimate. Told them not and call my husband, they them give her antibiotics, a medical colar and charge me $122. At that time my vet had already call our farmacy and send all that out dog need to be better... watch out if you are walk in and foreign. Read Less
