The doctor of this hospital is awesome and they are so nice! Our cat were scooting floor after he popped, we worried his anal glands have some problems. Office staff answers questions and pretty good with scheduling. The vets have been good to my pets..but rude to me at a couple of visits. The vets like to pound me with questions about where do I get heartworm meds. Main focus all the time. The dogs are neg. I dread the visit. I go because its near my house and good to our pets. Dr.Topor is the best avian vet! We trust her with our birds, she is diligent, and evaluates them carefully without ordering unnecessary tests for them. Birds are easily stressed and she balances what they need vs. what will just stress them so well. Dr.Kasaback is also very good! Dr. Topor is most humble and caring, she took care of my mouse when she became sick and with her and her staffs special care and patience, my little mouse got well and got to live a longer happier life, it was sad when we had to let her go, but I was so grateful she took her in so she wouldn't suffer, I've never met any Vet that truly care for your furry family and pet owners, she was so compassionate and understood how important our little mouse meant to me and my kids, she even put her in a beautiful box to burry her in that alone was so thoughtful, she is just great all around and her team too!! I also want to mention Dr. Kasaback because without her care my cat of 20 years old wouldn't be alive today, she gave her and me hope and with her care and knowledge, it gave me peace and her life!! First off they took a while to even get avet with me after they told me to come early, which I get happens, there's emergencies, and other issues, so I wasn't too mad. The assistant was super sweet and I enjoyed her but the vet came in being super rude to the assistant, treating her like an idiot then she turns around speaking to me like I knew nothing about my animal or what I was doing. She didn't know what was wrong, I figured that out on a fb group and she just ran expensive tests that figured out nothing. So she acts like I'm an idiot all while having no smile or nice attitude, I hated going here. Never again. Read Less

I been a pet owner all of my life and had tons of Vets - some good, some very bad. But nothing compared to the staff and vets (Topor, Kasaback, Yosha) that Livingston Animal Hospital have. They all love what they do and they do it very well. Staff has always been "on point" helpful and mindful (we recently had to put down our bull mastiff, and they made a very difficult experience less traumatic and they did everything imaginable to help our pet along with us throughout the process ). We bought a home in Pinellas county, but we will continue to make the long drive to use them to take care of our cats. I will not go anywhere else. Read Less

Took my daughter's pet rat there for an urgent afternoon appointment. She ended up having to have emergency surgery, that evening. She gave me many scenarios and made VERY sure I knew all the possible outcomes and that my rat was considered a senior (maybe a year and a half). No pressure at all to have the surgery, which I feel was a reasonable price for an exotic. The best part? At 9:30 that night I went to pick her up, she spent almost an hour with me giving me VERY detailed after care instructions to help my pet recover fully and in as little pain as possible. Dr Topor is fine but Dr Kasaback is quite rude, very off putting. The office staff are not friendly either. This building is so worn down, they need to either spruce it up or lower their costs, way too expensive for what you get. Good as it gets. All my animals have been treated great and seem to like going. Wait times can happen, but I like to think the time they are taking is quality care with other animals and owners. Some problems take time to solve and treat properly. I have been going to Livingston since 2000 at the time they were close to home. Now I live out in Land O Lakes and I still use them. 4 years ago I brought them 2 underweight flea infested half dead feral kittens. Bobo is now 12 lbs JJ is still a punk at 6 lbs. Both are great and love vet visits. If your not happy move on Bobo and JJ will be happy to take your visit. Read Less

I have been going to Livingston since 2000. The care they have shown to all my animals has been outstanding.  I have had 2 golden retrievers  who hated vets.  (Dragging down the hall hated)  They seemed to enjoy going to these folks, never missed a tail wag. Most cats hate strangers, mine seemed to be amused and would just look at the doctor when shots were given. I can call to make appointmets give them my pets name and they know who we are. As far as wait times.  Most visits are great some I wait.  Things happen.  I would not want to think someone else's pet got rushed for me to make "an appointment". My cockitiel Johnnie, got very sick. Still don't know why. Didn't affect Frankie. This being said he was hand feed n medicine given checked on all day. We came to a period where we brought him home, thinking the worse was going to happen. With 3 meds an i think being home and with Frankie, he is doing well. Johnnie had lost muscle tone plus weight. Falling asleep all the time. Doctors really didn't have alot to go on. We were educated on many things to watch out for n corrected on other things we were told having birds for the first time. Dr. Carla Kasaback has been my veterinarian ever since I moved to Tampa in October of 2014. My rat Columbo had just had a leg amputation prior to our move from Georgia a week before we came to Tampa. The previous vet had recommended that we get his stitches removed once we got to Tampa. He was doing OK until the stress of the move and picked at his stitches and got an infection. I randomly called some vets in the phone book to see who would take care of my poor Columbo and found Livingston Avian and Animal hospital and called to see if they had availability to see Columbo. They did and I got an appointment the very next day. Being unfamiliar to the area I had no idea at the time but they were only a half a mile away from my apartment. What luck!! When I met Dr. Kasaback she was very thorough in explaining the process. Columbo had to go under again to get re stitched up. Dr. Kasaback did a wonderful job, after the surgery she put him on 2 anti-biotics and some pain medication. Columbo recovered very quickly. Now I must say when my husband and I got Columbo he was already an old boy. We had him two years when he finally needed the leg amputation due to bumble foot, so he was probably around 4 years old. This is very old for a rat. Dr. Kasaback did a great job with surgery, there was that chance he wouldn't survive another surgery, especially after having been under anesthesia only a week and a half before. But she did such a good job. Even with three legs Columbo got around and gave us much joy and love. When Columbo finally passed due to a tumor her and her staff even sent us a sympathy card. The whole staff knows us there and I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else. She definitely knows her small animals. They are very fair with their prices to. The won't overcharge you. Its not about the money, you can tell she truly cares about you and your pet. Read Less

We take out animals there, Dr. Toper is the best. This year we had to put our 15 year old German/Shepherd mix to sleep. She took so much time with us. She was right there on the floor telling me every step of the way. Another one our dogs died of CHF and fluid on the lungs. Her and her partner tried so hard to save her. I had a pretty frustrating new customer experience here today. I made an appointment for a $13 wing clipping. They asked me to come in 15 min early to fill out paperwork. They didn't take me back into the exam room until 15 min after our appt, so now I had been there for 30 min. They left me in the room for another 15 min. Then the dr came in and started doing all these things to our bird that did not involve clipping wings. As she started testing the bird's poop I said, "uhm I'm here to get his wings clipped---I don't know what you are doing but I hope it's not going to cost me an arm and a leg." To which the vet said, "ohhhh you want his wings clipped? Ok." -_-Then they left again for another 15 min. to test his poop. At this point we have been here for over an hour and still don't have his wings clipped. Finally we are done and I go to pay, and the front desk tells me I owe $50!!!! I said, "whoa! wait a minute. I came here for a $13 wing clip- not an exam. This bird is just 11 weeks old - I had no reason to have an exam done and no one asked me if that's what I wanted!" Thankfully the front desk person immediately said, "ok I'll just take that off". So I ended up only paying $13. But man, if I had to pay $50 for an exam I didn't agree to, in addition to being there FOREVER I would have lost it. I arrived at 10:45, and didn't leave until 12:30. That's a really long time for a wing clipping. Read Less

They're awesome. I was in the military so when I moved back home to Tampa from California, I needed a vet to take my extremely energetic, 2 year old, red nose pit. I was also taking care of my grandpa's German Shepherd who had serious anxiety issues and she too was very energetic and only 3 years old. Together, they are a disaster. I was nervous as to how they would react to them wreaking havoc in their office and to my surprise they made me feel like everybody's dogs are as crazy and uptempo as mine. The service was great, and they treated my pit (who absolutely hates the vet) with care no matter how much he squirmed and cried and wrestled with them. I left the room an absolute mess of dog slobber and German Shepherd hair and they just thanked me for coming and said they couldn't wait to see my pit again. Walking out of there I knew right away that this was the place I want to continue taking my dog to. I would recommend Livingston Animal Hospital to anyone looking for a nice, small, cozy animal hospital filled with animal lovers (and cute women :-X).Read Less

I feel fortunate and thankful that I chose Livingston Animal and Avian Hospital to care for my pet.  Several years ago when I was trying to decide which veterinarian to use I asked around and Livingston was mentioned more than once so I went with them even though it's kind of a haul for me to get there.  I'm glad I made that decision.  Everyone from the vets to the techs to the staff is skilled, compassionate, and kind.A while ago my pet was diagnosed with a condition that would eventually become terminal.  It was pretty devastating when they broke the news to me.  They gave me the choice of how I wanted to proceed.  The options presented ranged from treatment there to some frankly "out there" options at other facilities.  I don't want to give the impression that they were pushing me to pick any of these.  They just wanted to ensure that I had knowledge of every single way I could try and tackle the problem, which I appreciated.  Because of his advanced age I went with an option that would be less harsh on him, but would still require a good number of vet visits.  The goal was to try and give us more 'quality time' with him.  You never want to say goodbye to a pet but at the same time I would never extend an animal's suffering because of that.  However, if I had the ability to maintain a good quality of life then I was more than willing to put in the time, money, and effort it took.I've got well over a hundred visits here under my belt so if there's anyone that can provide an outsider's view of how they operate here it's me.  I've seen them handle emergencies that come in as well as them comforting people that had to leave without pet.  I watched them foster two chihuahuas behind the office desk for months until a perfect home could be found for them.  I saw them do the same with a cute Frenchie who had spent so much time tied up on concrete she had sores on her stomach.  You can tell the people here are passionate about caring for animals.I dealt with Dr. Kasaback and I was always impressed with how she handled the chaos that came with the whole situation.  The same goes for the amazing technicians who help her with handling and treating the animals.  For one procedure in particular when she told me the pros and some potentially very bad cons I changed my mind at the last minute and didn't want to go through with it.  She didn't make me feel bad about my decision and just quickly adapted and continued on the path I wanted.  I really appreciated her doing that.As for my guy we kept him alive longer than I could have ever dreamed possible.  He had a great quality of life for 90% of that time too.  I'll be forever grateful to Livingston Animal and Avian Hospital for that. Dr. Topor is really nice and compassionate, and I think she really knows her stuff in regards to birds. I feel confident in taking my bird to her. Dr. Kasaback however is very off-putting and made a lot of mistakes in treating my bird and I would not visit her again. I recommend only seeing Dr. Topor for birds at this clinic. Read Less

We've been using this vet for the past 12 years now. They've given excellent care to all of our animals including chinchillas, birds, cats and dogs. Extremely knowledgeable in avian care. You could not ask for a better avian vet than Dr. Toper. She has a gentle and kind nature that sends out such a calming energy. She is excellent with the birds and with her knowledge. Her staff is excellent, kind, caring, compassionate. She saved my bird's life many times, even going in on her day off to force fed and was compassionate years later when my bird died. I have been going to Dr. Topor and other vets (Dr. Readdy, Dr. Brush, Dr. Odachowski) at Livingston for more than 10 years. I have cats and ferrets and all have received loving and gentle care by all the vets and techs. Dr. Topor is very gentle and respectful of the animals as well as the pet owner. I recently lost a ferret due to old age and the care and respect that we both received exceeded that I have received at any vet in 20 years. Office Staff was compassionate, the techs were very competent and spent time to explain my medication and Dr. Topor showed me great compassion. I have always believed that a vet must be good with animals, but in grave situations, being kind to the owner is also very important. I only have good things to say about Dr. Topor and her staff. I have shown up on a couple emergency occasions without an appointment, and they have made time for me and my pet in need. Another good practice is that they will take care of cremation for you, so that you do not need to handle these arrangements during a time of grief. Read Less

I've been taking my pets and my foster pets for Livingston for over six years, mainly because Dr. Odachowski and Dr. Ray are so great. However, the office manager is consistently rude to clients and made mistakes on my bills several times. One time I had a quote for my dog to be tested for allergies. I agreed to the test and dropped her off the next week. When I picked her up, the office manager increased the price by $150. she told the initial quote was a mistake and I was responsible for over $300. She said all this in front of other clients. I asked her to check with the owner as they should uphold the quote. She came back and said they would ""do me a favor"" by upholding the original quote. This march I took my dog in for her annual. I paid the bill they gave me in full and it said $0 balance when I walked out the door. 2 weeks later they sent a second invoice for $175 to my house with no note or explanation. My dog got sick a few months later. I called and they said Dr. O had left so I brough her to the new clinic. They called Livingston for her medical records and the office manager refused to send them because of an ""unpaid bill."" I called to talk to her and she accused me of not paying bills (I've spend thousands of dollars there over six years and ALWAYS paid my bill in full when I left). She said they forgot to add charges onto my last bill and added them on after and sent it to me???? REALLY? She refused to send my dogs medical records while she was sick because of this. Our Dusky Conure needs to see an avian vet. Like most people living in reality in 2010, we've been nearly crippled by the economy. However, we do have Care Credit for veterinary services. This avian practice does not accept Care Credit or make payment plan arrangements. We believe our Dusky Conure's foot is broken, and we know a vet visit right now is not going to be ""out of the pocket affordable"", especially since he will need X-rays, a splint, wrapping, pain medication, antibiotics and follow up visits. We have officially stopped exploring other options and taken him to our existing and expensive avian vet. At least they're business savvy and will accommodate people, as well as pets. This clinic very well may be ""good"", but nothing says ""caring"" more than providing OPTIONS for people to HELP their pets. Very disappointed! Read Less

Wish I could give ten stars! This location is in ""Lutz"" but is almost right off of Bruce B. Downs/Bearss--very convenient to my home off of I75/Fletcher. It would be very easy to get to for anyone in the university area, as well as for folks in New Tampa. It was a little easy to pass--kind of hidden by all the trees, but not too bad. As soon as I walked into the waiting room, everyone took a great interest in my puppy. They all asked questions and were all just very caring about my animal, and wanting to meet my needs. The waiting room was very clean and didn't smell overly like a vet clinic, no urine or feces or dog smell. This is an avian (bird) specialist, but I only heard one bird the whole time--no sensory overload here, just a pleasant atmosphere and caring people. The tech that did the basic once-over was very friendly and also knowledgeable, reassuring me about my crate training issues, relating her own anecdotes and giving me good tips. I expressed a concern with the cost of the visit and she did everything she could to keep it well below my budget. Thanks!! She even helped with the socialization that is so important in those puppy years---coming up with a sweet voice and offering my canine several low-cal treats. So thoughtful and genuinely caring about the welfare of my doggie. The DVM was great; she was very thorough checking for fleas, doing an inspection. My puppy had a skin condition and she did everything to investigate what it might be, and what we can do to fix it. She did not try to push any medications on me (my boyfriend and I aren't big fans of medicines or chemicals), only gave us what was necessary to help the conditions that needed it. Have used this vet for over 10 years, have only praise for them. I had a bird that had liver problems, they couldn't save her, but they really did try. I took my fathers cat there after he had been hit by a car, he received gentle competent care while he was there. They treat all my animals, I won't go anywhere else again. Tried a closer vet, they just didn't have the ""bedside manor"" or the concern for my pets that I have come to expect from an animal hospital. Recommend them without reservations. I have been to many vets over the years as I traveled a lot for 10 years. Without a doubt, this clinic is the BEST. From the front office staff, to the technicians, and, of course, the vets, everyone is kind and genuinely care about their patients as well as their human companions. When I first started taking my pets there after a very poor experience at another local vet (All Creatures---AVOID) Dr. Ready was my vet and she was wonderful. When she moved on, Dr. Odachowski took over for my pets. She is very wonderful as well and it has become clear to me over the past few years that this is the norm at the clinic. I had a cat go through 2 years of kidney failure which they helped us through so much and more recently, my pooch has come down with cancer. Although this is a very difficult time, I am so relieved to have such a supportive clinic, vet and staff. Although Dr. O is our primary, when she hasn't been available during a couple emergency visits, the other vets have been very attentive and worked very closely with us. Sometimes I have had to wait a bit past my appointment time, but I realize it is because they spend the time they need with clients and patients...well worth the slight inconvenience...just plan for the possibility. I had a great experience with trying to resolve some issues with my poor sick sugar gliders. It is difficult to find vets that take care of exotic pets, especially gentle little ones like sugar gliders. They genuinely care about the pets and the veterinarians and vet techs truly want to help you whether it is a benefit in their pocket or not. I did end up losing my sugar glider to the sickness because it was too late but they definitely made me feel comforted and did everything they could have done, plus more. They helped me re-home my other sugar glider so that she would not die of depression from losing her sister. I am very grateful to have found this place. Thank you! Read Less

I have been taking my pets to this clinic for well over four to five years now and they are wonderful. From the fantastic vet. techs to the veterinarians, they love animals and it shows! They are reasonably priced and available for any questions you have and it really shows they have a loving nature towards all animals. They've treated my cat for kidney failure for almost two years and if it weren't for their knowledge and help he would not have made it this far. He's 19 years old and they love him there!
