So-so experience. I brought my cat in as she was exhibiting symptoms of possible kidney disease or hyperthyroidism, but it turned out to be Diabetes. Rather unexpected. Maybe it was because I told the doctor that my boyfriend's cat was just diagnosed and he had started treatment, but she unloaded a lot of information on me verbally and just said to get in touch with her if I had questions. We all know that's not typically easy to do, especially when you want an answer ASAP about your sick pet. It was an expensive visit, and the $125 x-rays they wanted to do were not really necessary, but of course I just wanted to do everything I could for my pet. had one of our sweet babies put to sleep at this facility. never going here again for any service. When we made the appointment we mentioned that we wanted the animal completely sedated and "sleeping" before the final injection was given. During the procedure we notice our baby was not peacefully falling to sleep as we were assured. After a third dose of the "calming" drug we asked the Dr. TWICE to please sedate our animal....Twice. She responded with "ok" and proceeded to give the final injection. 5 seconds after that my dog jerked violently, her tongue lurched out of her mouth and she was gone.... never have I ever seen such a horrific thing when putting a dog to sleep. such lack of compassion for the animal and us. Completely unacceptable. Adding insult to injury - the cost was over $500.00 for the service here plus cremation - no we did not do a private cremation nor did we request ashes returned.... the cremation was the most expensive part too... please do yourself and your pet a better service and go somewhere else. I have read other 1 star reviews here, but you can QUICKLY summarize that these were from a disgruntled former employee and her friends trying to ruin a good business with personal vendettas. The Doctor knows what she is doing but not such a great person! But the blonde older lady that works at the front desk is why I am no longer taking my dogs here she is rude and nasty! The doctor also came and I told her I couldn't afford to pay a certain amount for certain medications or exams so she raised the price in other things that she charged me for. This is not right! They also told me they would fill out my claim form for pet insurance and they were procrastinating and told me to come pick it up the next day because they were busy, I came back the next day and they didn't have it filled out and told me they wouldn't do it what a waste of time. Doc you better see who you hire because one of the number one reasons why people stop going to the docs practice is because the staff treat the clients rude and customer service is highly important! This women is the most rude unprofessional person , while working there for a month she had 6 employees either quit or she fired them. She doesn't care about her staff please stay away from this place. She once made me smile and told me too fake it, she yells at her employes for no good reason. She took my phone away while my infant had a high fever and told me to grow up. She fired me over a lie that another employee said without investigating she yelled your fired and threaten to call the police in front of everyone for no good reason. Terrible service, unprofessional staff, including the "hospital administrator", who seems to be a relative.  I was a customer of theirs for many years, and had spent several thousand dollars on various pets during that time.  I brought my dog in for a small cyst on his eyelid and they recommended removing it and provided me with an estimate. The day before the surgery, I was told that they had an "issue with their software" and the estimate they gave me was wrong.  They said they would not honor the first estimate, so I offered to split the difference.  They raised it $200 to about $800 (for a minor surgery). They refused to split it, which looking back I see was a God send. When I took my dog to the new vet (South Paws in North Tampa), within a 5 minute initial exam, the new and very competent vet observed that my dog had severe dental issues (a cracked molar with exposed pulp), and was in a great deal of pain from it. Suncoast had seen him just the week before and didn't even notice it.  The new vet performed the dental surgery, as well as the other minor surgery that I had gone to Suncoast for, and the entire cost was several hundred dollars less than the Suncoast estimate.Also, I was advised that you are not ever allowed to speak to the vet over the phone. You have to be seen in person, or talk to her offensive relative or equally rude office manager. I would not take road kill to them. Read Less

Those of you who frequent Suncoast Veterinary Care Center this is what truly takes place in this facility. All those of you who board their dogs and or cats, please think again. This facility has dogs in cages that do not sufficiently house your dog. There are only two runs for large dogs, when they are full then your dog over 80lbs or more may be put in a large (pop-up) wire kennel where your dog would not be able to stand up or turn around adequately. If you board cats, your cats are put in kennels in the same area as barking dogs, which stresses them out completely. Or your cat may be housed in a wooden cat suite that is located in the facilities' own cat room which houses their cats they have up for adoption as well as their hospital cats. So your cat is being exposed to other cats. Your dog will be in a kennel the entire visit and is only walked outside 3 times just enough to urinate or defecate. Due to the lack of staff available, sometimes they may not be walked all 3 times. This is a miserable and extremely stressful experience for your pets. Please reconsider either, hiring a pet sitter or locating another boarding facility that focuses on one thing, boarding. You may feel your pet is safer being in a pet hospital but that is not the case at this facility. This practice may fool you and come across that they are sincerely and genuinely care about your pet, but in all actuality they are full of greed and disregard of your pet's well-being. They will overbook their boarding during holidays and use pop-up kennels throughout the practice. They have staff members come in for a few hours in the morning to clean, feed, and walk your pet and then again, in the early evening. There is not a staff member there during the lunch hours. I am sharing this information, because I would want to know if a boarding facility was inadequately taking care of my pet, especially a boarding facility that is within a veterinary hospital. Please do the right thing and choose a facility that will be providing your pet the attention and care that he or she needs while you're away. Looking out for your pet's well-being! Sec. 14-107. I was new to the area and I heard Dr. Sulliven was amazing! Boy was I wrong! I brought my dog in bc poor girl had a rash so after waiting about an hour in the lobby and another 30min in the room my dog was examed, actually all she did was look at her the nurse did more. So she prescribed her some pills of course they were $75 the rash didnt go away so I kept coming back and more sprays pills and shampoos were given. One day I came in and saw a man Dr. he took my dog in the back came back and told me my dog had demodex and to immediately stop what Dr. Sulliven prescribed bc that was actually making it worse! She hurt my dog. Another time my cat had diarrhea and was vomitting and i was desperate so i went back before i was even seen by anyone they brought me a estimate that was around $800. What a joke! She is very fake and rude to clients and even her staff! I can see all she cares about is money! She hurt my pets! If you must go there see the man Dr. i forgot his name but he is great! Read Less

I took two of my dogs to this vet, looking for an animal doctor who could give me a diagnosis fairly and economically. One of my dogs had a probable bladder infection and I was concerned with the other dogs ears (chronic ear infections) and weight(he is a little chubby!) I was in a room with my two dogs for 2.5 hours total! The vet tech came in several times to discuss possible ""tests"" for my dogs - starting with a blood test for each of them for $148.50 EACH. Next, she told me that they would have to send Deedee's urine out to a lab for $65 and when I looked at her rather skeptically, she offered an ""in-house"" test for half the price ($32.) I wonder what the off site lab would discover for $33 more dollars?? I wonder if there even is an ""Off site"" lab?? Anyway, the tech took my dog away to catch a urine sample and I was left with just Skippy to sit and wait and wonder. She eventually brought back Dee and declared she could not get the dog to go to the bathroom. Eventually the DR did come in and look at both dogs for about 5 minutes of exam time and she graciously answered some of my questions about their over all health. The Dr and her staff were courteous and friendly. Next I was presented the bill along with all the medications and recommended ""options' for both dogs. Office visit was $45 dollars(each dog) an additional ""medical waste fee"" of $3.75 for each dog, $65 for Dee's antibiotics and then $30 - $45 for several shampoos, and ear remedies. I questioned the ""medical waste fee"" because up to this point, neither dog had left anything behind to dispose of?? The vet tech just said ""they always charge that..."" She really had no response. I took a copy of the recommendations and ordered everything from Amazon for less than HALF as much as they wanted to charge. I did buy the antibiotics but did a search on that as well and was upset to find these available for 1/3 of the price! Just to note: the only thing I really needed from the Vet was a prescription. I think that 48.75 per dog to tell me a recommended shampoo and ear cleaners was MORE than fair. I really feel the vet should be compensated for her time and staff - so I am not suggesting that she NOT get a FAIR price for her services. By the time I walked out of the exam room some 2.5 hours later, I was out of patience! I did say something to the receptionist about being there for so long and she responded that there was an emergency that came in. I would suggest if that is the case in the future they should send someone around to the exam rooms to apologize and inform those of us waiting. Anyway, I am just dismayed that the vet seems to be more interested in making MONEY than just helping out those of us who want and or need to take care of our pets. I feel particularly bad for people who have very little resources and do not know that they are being sold goods and services at a horribly inflated price. I have no reason to believe that the vet and her staff are not competent but I do believe they are not in the ""animal CARING"" business! Read Less

I am so happy that we found a vet as amazing as Dr. Sullivan at Suncoast Vet care center !!! Our dog was sick and had a seziure in the car on the way to the vet - with me by myself! It was horrible! when I got there, I ran in and told them, they literally all ran out to the car to help me, including Dr SULLIVAN! To me, that says ALOT. We made the switch last September and haven't regretted it for a minute. We had been using another vet in New Tampa and were debating switching due to their costs and the distance we had to travel. Last September when one of my cats became blocked (and eventually had to have surgery), we made the call to Suncoast Veterinary Care Center and haven't looked back.....They are the most caring group of people I have met in a long time. They treated my cat as if he were their own. Everything was explained to us up front including costs. Our dog has since been diagnosed with cancer and they have been nothing but caring and compassionate as we deal with his problems. Whenever we have a concern, they are quick to either call us back with an answer or get us in to see the doctor. Dr. Sullivan has been wonderful, she always has the time to talk to us and answer any questions about our dog's health. I feel as if she is always up front with me and isn't just continuing to treat my dog or prolong his life just to make a buck. I never feel as if she is rushing out of the exam room to go to the next patient as I did with my previous vet. They are there 7 days a week which is extremely convenient for the working folks. The staff is very friendly. Whenever I call or go in, they always greet me with a smile and a friendly Hello. They ask how my pets are doing (if I'm not there for an appointment) and they actually listen when I tell them how my pets are doing. JUST WANTED EVERYONE TO KNOW NOT TO USE THIS LOCATION FOR ANY BOARDING. MY TWO DOGS UNFORTUNATELY HAD TO BE THERE FOR 30 DAYS. I WAS TOLD THAT MY GOLDENDOODLE AND YORKIE ARE HIGH MAINTENCE DOGS. AND THEY HAD TO TAKE THEM OUT 2 TO 3 TIMES PER DAY(WELL, I WOULD HOPE SO) THEY WERE NEGLECTED AND THEY EVEN LOST WEIGHT. NO DOG SHOULD BE TREATED THE WAY MY DOGS WERE. THEY HAVE LOST 2 MORE CLIENTS. I called with an emergency as my dog ate a towel. I was asked how quickly I could make it in and was there within an hour. We went through a quick check in process, as a matter of fact while I was filling out the paper work they were weighing my dog. The front staff was friendly and welcoming. We waited a few minutes and was escorted to our room. The nurse came in shortly and asked about the details. She had already gotten most of the details from the check in. They took my dog back for x-rays, and then the Dr and the nurse came in to talk to me about our next step. The facilities were clean. The staff was comforting and appeared to be truly concerned for our beloved pet. Although this was our first visit w/ their facility I felt it to be a very helpful and an overall positive experience.
