I've been seeing Dr. Green now since the late 90s. She and her staff are so compassionate and knowledgeable. She combines eastern and western medicine to give the best possible outcome for your pet....
I've been seeing Dr. Green now since the late 90s. She and her staff are so compassionate and knowledgeable. She combines eastern and western medicine to give the best possible outcome for your pet. Unfortunately she had to put one of my dogs to sleep and she was so compassionate to my sweet boy and me and made such a horrible situation tolerable. Then she was so kind to send a beautiful plant that I still have 3 years later. My dog was having issues late yesterday afternoon which was Saturday and it appeared like a rear end paralysis and I called Dr. Green on her cell phone. She was kind enough to meet me at her office at 6 to look at my baby. She's better today thank God and Dr. Green was so sweet to text me to see how she's doing and make further recommendations. She's my Lexie's and my angel! Thank you Dr. Green.

Choose another vet! Our 7 month old golden went in for a well visit last week and caught whooping cough - then gave it to our Berner and older golden. When we called this morning to see what they would do to help us with this, since it was their fault for failing to properly clean their exam rooms, we were treated rudely by her staff and not given ANY options to have our pets treated right away. We were told the vet was totally booked up. I don't usually take to internet reviews, but I personally reached out to Dr. Green via email this morning to give her a chance to remedy the situation in a professional manner and she didn't bother to assist us. We called Tyrone Veterinary Hospital and they immediately got our older pets in - within an hour of the call. Our 7 month old had to be seen by a vet in Indiana because Dr. Greene would not give him medications even though she had seen him for a well visit less than a week ago and he caught this illness at her office. Whooping cough is so highly contagious that the Indiana vet - who got our pup in for a visit before noon - came out to the car to do the examination. Now, we are out over $400 in vet expenses and not even a call back from the vet. We're hoping all our pets are okay. If you love your pets, I would suggest you take them somewhere else! I'm still waiting on Dr. Greene to call me back!

A hugely successful practice. Very busy, so don't bother, they don't need your business. I've been going there for over 2 years with my 3 cats. My 16 year old cat isn't doing well. I called there to ask if they could put her to sleep for me. They said, no, they were too busy and double booked for the next week. If I wanted an appointment, that's how long it would be before they could get me in. What vet and their staff would let an animal suffer for 10 days? I have no words for their lack of compassion.

Took my dog in for an x ray and was given option of single for $80 or multiple for a couple hundred. I agreed on the single x ray of the shoulder that was bothering him. When I showed up for the x Ray's they took him in the back and did multiple and tried to charge me several hundred dollars. When I argued I only ordered the single x ray they consulted the individual i spoke to and charged me the $80 and i paid in full at that time. When I called to say something is making him sick they said they cant see if for several days and informed me that I owed a balance for unpaid x Ray's. When I said that was bullshit and tried to explain the receptionist said I swore and hung up the phone and refused to answer again so I left a message for the owner to contact me. Read other reviews and you'll see they are very rude and obviously will try to RIP you off even though you paid in full at the time of service. DO NOT USE!!!!!!!!!!

Dr Green and staff have always been so caring and compassionate, that being said, something has recently changed in the past year. Not sure if it's just staffing changes or possibly new care guidelines but it seems the appointments are harder to get and the attitude has become apathetic especially at the front desk. Not getting that welcoming happy to see you vibe an longer. Hoping it's not permanent. My last visit was underwhelming except for the doctor. Hate to change but certainly not spending my hard earned money on less than stellar care and kindness and I spend ALOT of money on my pets.

Medicine River has always been there when I needed urgent care during business hours, never turned away, and always felt my pets were safe in their care. I am a former vet tech and have been a RN for years. And worked in many veterinary practices before switching to Registered Nursing, there are a lot of unsavory veterinarians out there... intellectually dishonest, beware. Dr Greene and her colleagues and staff have always been completely professional and thorough in their assessments and treatments.

The combination of traditional and alternative medicine has helped our 14 year old dog maintain great quality of life and mobility. She loves her laser therapy and acupuncture treatments!

Dr Shawna Greene, Gay, Jill, Nicki and entire staff have been great with both our cat and dog all these years with annual check-ups and shots. We have needed more expertise as our dog's heart murmur worsened while we were on vacation in 2016-he was at our boarding place locally and Nicki made sure to get the vet in on the matter, which made a big difference. Recently, our 11ish yr old cat was out of sorts, turns out it was a huge bladder stone. They helped us through the diagnosis, surgery and now healing to keep our feisty cat healthy. We so appreciate their TLC, and professionalism mixed with caring. Highly recommend this animal hospital/vet!

They provide the lowest cost treatment route first (not sure if this is a plus, depending on what the problem is).
Negatives:
It smells like dog urine. My eyes watered. First time I thought was a fluke. Bringing a sick cat into that environment isn’t a good idea.
They don’t wipe down the exam table.
They made me hold my cat as if he was a leper and they didn’t want to touch him.
Didn’t take vitals (this is the one we have trouble with — they saw him once, he’s a mush. His prior vet did all tx including x-rays, draws, etc., without sedation). Not even temperature.
Maybe it’s okay if you gave a dog or are in a bind. My advice is visit first. A place stinking now and then is understandable but on two or more visits? No.

Recently, after retiring, we asked if Dr. Greene would write a prescription for our dog's chronic dental problem, so we could purchase the antibiotics at a much reduced price at Walmart. We were given the prescription with a charge of $6 for her time to write the prescription. Outrageous and money grubbing!

Worst experience with a vet I've ever had. Her son walked in the room during my dog's euthanasia. The procedure took forever and Dr G and the vet tech laughed when they couldn't find her vein over and over. I was sobbing and they were just clueless. Later, when I asked Gay the receptionist why they didn't send me a reminder on my other dog's health reminder, she said it was my job, and called me a bad pet parent and hung up on me. I do have my dogs records, but every vet office I've ever known in diff states sends courtesy reminders. Regardless, I'm an incredible dog mom and to have such a mean person act sugary sweet when you first meet her and then attack you for no reason is inexcusable.I got no apology from Dr G. I know a number of people who have left there also. I cannot imagine being so cruel to someone! This was a year ago and it still hurts. A vet should be competent and compassionate and the receptionist should have been disciplined or fired. Having a TODDLER walk in at the worst moment of your life and hear the dr say, I'll be right there, it was awful and so unprofessional. I don't want anyone else to be treated this way.

I moved to Florida six years ago with three dogs. I tried a few other vets before going here, Dr. Green has been great. First vet that didn't try to sell me everything in the place and she was excellent with our dogs. We had a dog that was aggressive and they were great with him. I have recommended Medicine River and so far so good.

Perhaps this place has changed from 3 years ago, but when I brought in my dying cat (kidney failure)in to their office after finding her lying comatose on the kitchen floor, they gave her some fluids and sent her home with me that night and told me if she wasn't feeling better by the morning to bring her in.
Thankfully I rushed her to another Seminole vet and they immediately put her on IV drip for 5 days straight. I was able to take her home at night but was told to have her back in the office in the morning ASAP so they could get the fluids pumping into her.
Well, they saved her life and she lived until now (3 years later), and sadly she is in the process of dying (breaking my heart, for sure), and it reminded me of this place.
I hope they have changed, but be careful - your little companion can't speak up for themselves...

Hands down, one of the best veterinarians around. Everyone there always goes above & beyond for you & your four legged family members. I don't think I have ever met a more caring Veterinarian than Dr. Shawna Green or a more caring staff. Many years ago after first moving here to FL my Cody had oxalate stones and was in need of surgery. I only had a very small part time job with very few hours at the time and could not afford the surgery, but Dr. Green allowed me to make payments even though I was a first time client and did not know me at all, no questions asked. That is how much she cares for the animals. I have been a client from that point forward through many trials and losses. Last minute appointments, needing early drop offs, you name it. The entire staff of Medicine River have always been there for me & my pets. Thank you Dr. Green, Dr. Wilkinson, Gaye, Jill, Nicki & everyone at Medicine River Animal Hospital, YOU ALL ROCK!

I can't begin to say how much I respect Shawna and her staff- not only is she an absolutely gifted vet, but they care! When you are going through a difficult time with a pet, you need comfort - understanding- even if you're being a bit crazy bc you're scared! This is the place!! Love them!!! My precious 10 yr old lab was bitten by a brown recluse- another vet basically blew me off when the wound opened and refused to see me- Shawna has him with her now for a few days to take care of him! Vet Care with a Heart!Dr. Greene and her staff are wonderful. My dogs have been seen by her for years. She is very compassionate. Her and her staff are very thorough and provide high quality care. When my beloved dog, Smokey, was old and very ill it was so hard to say good bye. Dr. Greene made him comfortable and stood by my side. It was a very difficult time for me but she stayed with me until I was ready to walk away. Afterwards, she sent me a beautiful card with his paw prints on it. It was so touching! Shortly after, she got to meet the newest addition to our family, Smokey Jr. She has been taking care of him every since. We love Dr. Greene!

I cannot say enough amazing things about Dr. Greene and all of the staff at Medicine River. My husband and I recently relocated out of state and I'm so very sad to have to look for a replacement vet in our new city. Minor infections, broken bones, surgery, dentals, acupuncture, you name it- Medicine River has helped us through it all. We've had 5 dachshunds as patients at Medicine River. We followed them through 3 offices over a decade. Even though we lived in Clearwater, we still brought all of our babies to Madeira Beach for their appointments because we loved this office so much. Dr. Greene always takes her time with each patient and owner to explain and discuss the situation at hand. Every staff member is so caring and gentle with the animals. They call you after the appointment to check up on your pets and ALWAYS follow through with anything discussed. If you want the best care for your pets in Pinellas County, this is your place. We miss you Medicine River!

Matter of fact, because of a family emergency, I've actually been making the trip to Medicine River Animal Hospital from Ocala for the past 10 months. I trust them immensely and know my precious kids are in very capable hands with them.

Dr. Green and her staff genuinely care about your pet. Very thorough. My dog had bladder stones and she tried everything to dissolve them rather than put the dog through surgery. Unfortunately, he wound up having surgery. He came through wonderfully. I can not sing loud enough praise for this entire office. They are kind, considerate and knowledgeable in every aspect. Bonus, they also do animal rescues. I wouldn't take my pet anywhere else!

When I called to say something is making him sick they said they cant see if for several days and informed me that I owed a balance for unpaid x Ray's. When I said that was bullshit and tried to explain the receptionist said I swore and hung up the phone and refused to answer again so I left a message for the owner to contact me. Read other reviews and you'll see they are very rude and obviously will try to RIP you off even though you paid in full at the time of service. DO NOT USE!!!!!!!!!!

Dr Green and staff have always been so caring and compassionate, that being said, something has recently changed in the past year. Not sure if it's just staffing changes or possibly new care guidelines but it seems the appointments are harder to get and the attitude has become apathetic especially at the front desk. Not getting that welcoming happy to see you vibe an longer. Hoping it's not permanent. My last visit was underwhelming except for the doctor. Hate to change but certainly not spending my hard earned money on less than stellar care and kindness and I spend ALOT of money on my pets.

Medicine River has always been there when I needed urgent care during business hours, never turned away, and always felt my pets were safe in their care. I am a former vet tech and have been a RN for years. And worked in many veterinary practices before switching to Registered Nursing, there are a lot of unsavory veterinarians out there... intellectually dishonest, beware. Dr Greene and her colleagues and staff have always been completely professional and thorough in their assessments and treatments.

Dr Shawna Greene, Gay, Jill, Nicki and entire staff have been great with both our cat and dog all these years with annual check-ups and shots. We have needed more expertise as our dog's heart murmur worsened while we were on vacation in 2016-he was at our boarding place locally and Nicki made sure to get the vet in on the matter, which made a big difference. Recently, our 11ish yr old cat was out of sorts, turns out it was a huge bladder stone. They helped us through the diagnosis, surgery and now healing to keep our feisty cat healthy. We so appreciate their TLC, and professionalism mixed with caring. Highly recommend this animal hospital/vet!

They provide the lowest cost treatment route first (not sure if this is a plus, depending on what the problem is).
Negatives:
It smells like dog urine. My eyes watered. First time I thought was a fluke. Bringing a sick cat into that environment isn’t a good idea.
They don’t wipe down the exam table.
They made me hold my cat as if he was a leper and they didn’t want to touch him.
Didn’t take vitals (this is the one we have trouble with — they saw him once, he’s a mush. His prior vet did all tx including x-rays, draws, etc., without sedation). Not even temperature.
Maybe it’s okay if you gave a dog or are in a bind. My advice is visit first. A place stinking now and then is understandable but on two or more visits? No.

Recently, after retiring, we asked if Dr. Greene would write a prescription for our dog's chronic dental problem, so we could purchase the antibiotics at a much reduced price at Walmart. We were given the prescription with a charge of $6 for her time to write the prescription. Outrageous and money grubbing!

Worst experience with a vet I've ever had. Her son walked in the room during my dog's euthanasia. The procedure took forever and Dr G and the vet tech laughed when they couldn't find her vein over and over. I was sobbing and they were just clueless. Later, when I asked Gay the receptionist why they didn't send me a reminder on my other dog's health reminder, she said it was my job, and called me a bad pet parent and hung up on me. I do have my dogs records, but every vet office I've ever known in diff states sends courtesy reminders. Regardless, I'm an incredible dog mom and to have such a mean person act sugary sweet when you first meet her and then attack you for no reason is inexcusable.I got no apology from Dr G. I know a number of people who have left there also. I cannot imagine being so cruel to someone! This was a year ago and it still hurts. A vet should be competent and compassionate and the receptionist should have been disciplined or fired. Having a TODDLER walk in at the worst moment of your life and hear the dr say, I'll be right there, it was awful and so unprofessional. I don't want anyone else to be treated this way.

First vet that didn't try to sell me everything in the place and she was excellent with our dogs. We had a dog that was aggressive and they were great with him. I have recommended Medicine River and so far so good.

Perhaps this place has changed from 3 years ago, but when I brought in my dying cat (kidney failure)in to their office after finding her lying comatose on the kitchen floor, they gave her some fluids and sent her home with me that night and told me if she wasn't feeling better by the morning to bring her in.
Thankfully I rushed her to another Seminole vet and they immediately put her on IV drip for 5 days straight. I was able to take her home at night but was told to have her back in the office in the morning ASAP so they could get the fluids pumping into her.
Well, they saved her life and she lived until now (3 years later), and sadly she is in the process of dying (breaking my heart, for sure), and it reminded me of this place.
I hope they have changed, but be careful - your little companion can't speak up for themselves...

I thought it was going to be a difficult transition but they have made it extremely easy for me. I know that my dog and cats have found a great place. Thank goodness for Medicine River!

I don't think I have ever met a more caring Veterinarian than Dr. Shawna Green or a more caring staff. Many years ago after first moving here to FL my Cody had oxalate stones and was in need of surgery. I only had a very small part time job with very few hours at the time and could not afford the surgery, but Dr. Green allowed me to make payments even though I was a first time client and did not know me at all, no questions asked. That is how much she cares for the animals. I have been a client from that point forward through many trials and losses. Last minute appointments, needing early drop offs, you name it. The entire staff of Medicine River have always been there for me & my pets. Thank you Dr. Green, Dr. Wilkinson, Gaye, Jill, Nicki & everyone at Medicine River Animal Hospital, YOU ALL ROCK!

When you are going through a difficult time with a pet, you need comfort - understanding- even if you're being a bit crazy bc you're scared! This is the place!! Love them!!! My precious 10 yr old lab was bitten by a brown recluse- another vet basically blew me off when the wound opened and refused to see me- Shawna has him with her now for a few days to take care of him! Vet Care with a Heart!Dr. Greene and her staff are wonderful. My dogs have been seen by her for years. She is very compassionate. Her and her staff are very thorough and provide high quality care. When my beloved dog, Smokey, was old and very ill it was so hard to say good bye. Dr. Greene made him comfortable and stood by my side. It was a very difficult time for me but she stayed with me until I was ready to walk away. Afterwards, she sent me a beautiful card with his paw prints on it. It was so touching! Shortly after, she got to meet the newest addition to our family, Smokey Jr. She has been taking care of him every since. We love Dr. Greene!

I cannot say enough amazing things about Dr. Greene and all of the staff at Medicine River. My husband and I recently relocated out of state and I'm so very sad to have to look for a replacement vet in our new city. Minor infections, broken bones, surgery, dentals, acupuncture, you name it- Medicine River has helped us through it all. We've had 5 dachshunds as patients at Medicine River. We followed them through 3 offices over a decade. Even though we lived in Clearwater, we still brought all of our babies to Madeira Beach for their appointments because we loved this office so much. Dr. Greene always takes her time with each patient and owner to explain and discuss the situation at hand. Every staff member is so caring and gentle with the animals. They call you after the appointment to check up on your pets and ALWAYS follow through with anything discussed. If you want the best care for your pets in Pinellas County, this is your place. We miss you Medicine River!

Dr. Green and the Medicine River Animal Hospital staff are incredible. I live way up in Palm Harbor and prefer to make the drive to Madeira for their exceptional care of my animals. Matter of fact, because of a family emergency, I've actually been making the trip to Medicine River Animal Hospital from Ocala for the past 10 months. I trust them immensely and know my precious kids are in very capable hands with them.

Dr. Green and her staff genuinely care about your pet. Very thorough. My dog had bladder stones and she tried everything to dissolve them rather than put the dog through surgery. Unfortunately, he wound up having surgery. He came through wonderfully. I can not sing loud enough praise for this entire office. They are kind, considerate and knowledgeable in every aspect. Bonus, they also do animal rescues. I wouldn't take my pet anywhere else!
