Lake Area Vets was a gentle experience for my persian kitty who had too many fleas and had to be sedated and clipped. When I picked him up he was very awake and hungry. I've been taking my dogs here for years and I have a wonderful experience each time. I use both the vet and kenneling services and am equally satisfied with both. I brought my dog in to this vet as an emergency. Dr. Amber Rea was slow to take action to help my dog. I begged the staff to help me when my dog's condition got worse. Dr. Rea was answering her emails and not in a hurry to help my dog. I am very disappointed with the service and lack of quick response in emergency situations. My family has been bringing our dogs here for years and since this vet has been under Dr. Rea's care, the service has been inadequate with long wait times when the practice isn't even busy and wanting to order unnecessary tests and exams. I'm very disappointed with the service of this veterinarian, especially when an emergency situation isn't taken seriously by the staff. Read Less

Lake Area Animal Hospital is always wonderful to deal with. Our Border Collie had had constant infections in a very private area. The only "cure" was a "face lift" in that area. Dr. Rea took on the challenge and fixed her right up. They're always caring and professional whether it's at the vet department or the grooming department. Our 11 year old hound dog mix has suffered from all sorts of allergies all her life. She came to us when she was 4 years old with digestive issues. Tried the usual treatments to no avail. I finally researched food allergies in dogs and BINGO, there were all her symptoms. Changed her food to a grain free diet and improvement was great. But she continued to have red paws, ears, mouth and was constantly licking. Blood worked revealed she is allergic to every tree, weed, grass and plant. She was also diagnosed with pancreatitis (was still having an occasional digestive issue.) We were at wits end on what to do with her. Our vet suggested Atopica. This drug works well but with her weight it was costing 200.00 a month. There was no way, we could afford this. Poor Bella was miserable and so were we. One day I received a post card in the mail from Lake Area Animal Hospital, explaining a new drug for dogs with allergies. I researched Apoquel and was extremely excited about the reviews and the reasonable price. Called my vet and was informed they could not get it, that it was on back order. I was determined to find Bella relief and called Lake Area Animal Hospital. I was so relieved when they said they would see Bella. Long story short. Bella has been on Apoquel for over a month and from the first day has found relief. She has not had a digestive issue, is happy and even plays with our other dog. I recently adopted a cat from Gainesville Pet Rescue and within the first 8 days it is asked that you bring the pet into a vet clinic so they can do a health check-up. I was given a "voucher" with the names of several veterinary clinics in the Gainesville area that are contracted/offer these checkups free of charge. I chose to go to Lake Area Animal Hospital as I live in Melrose and was hoping I could make it my new cat's doctor. Well, I will not be making it my new cat's doctor.I felt so uncomfortable at this office. I will not be going back. I do not feel they examined my cat very well. They took his noticeable problem of runny eyes and completely focused on that (which was already well-documented and explained to me when I adopted). The vet (Dr. Seredick) did not even check his ears despite telling me he had an upper respiratory infection. The cat is doing great, no thanks to Lake Area Animal Hospital. Read Less
