The doctors assistant was uncomfortable and almost afraid of my 3 m.o. puppy  (and she is a toy size pomeranian!) as she was so playful. Weird for the person working at the animal hospital. Another thing is that they didn't mention anything about heart worm pills I have to give my dog every month and then my dog had a problem and I went to another doctor.After some time I called bay rd office to request vaccination info to be sent to my email because I went to another clinic I was told by the doctor himself (!?) in a very rude way that I HAVE TO EXPLAIN my request... Also, I was told to pay $15 for them to do it since they "use their machine to download and send this information". Never heard anything more ridiculous. I paid over $120 for 10 minutes spent at the office and now they tell me this in absolutely inappropriate manner. I was so disappointed with them and happy that I've chosen another doctors office where people are friendly, comfortable and more knowledgable for my doggy. Read Less

Dr. Dugan is very attentive and is a great listener. My only wish is that he could be open 24 hours because I never want to go to animal hospital for a misdiagnosis again. He looks at the dog and can tell exactly what is wrong. He listens attentively to my history that lead to my dog's health issues and does his best not to over charge. Over paying when a small is dog is an easy thing to do and he is reasonable and helpful. He also has a calming effect on both me and my Coton de Tulear, which neither of us tends to be calm in moments of health issues. In May of 2012 my wonderful cat of 13 years developed a cancerous tumor in his jaw. Dr. Duggan and his staff were so kind and sympathetic, but also straight forward and frank about Cohiba's prognosis. He let me know what to expect as my cat became more ill which made me MUCH more comfortable and certain about the decisions I was going to have to make. When it was time to make that last decision, I was at least prepared mentally for it. Since I am also a "starving artist", he always tried to work with me (when he could) to help lessen the financial strain on me as well. Dr. Duggan never sugar coated Cohiba's condition and never tried to create a costly, complicated care plan which ultimately would have done nothing to keep my little guy alive. I'll always be grateful for the care my cat received at the end of his life as well as the care given to me during that difficult time. Now i have a rescued Chihuahua named Yoyo and I, of course, have put my trust in Dr. Duggan for all her medical needs as well. Dr. Duggan: The "Dr. Do-Little" of Miami Beach.I brought a newly adopted kitten here for a preliminary check up and to further investigate the shelter's diagnosis of potential worms. As soon as I arrived, something felt "off". Dr. Duggan examined Iago for MAYBE 3 minutes before claiming that he was "perfectly healthy." I mentioned that the shelter had tested him for worms and my concern seemed to have gone in one ear and out the other because he didn't even address the issue. Instead, he eagerly showed me right to the register where I was charged $80.00 for 3 minutes of his time. Ridiculous. Two days later, Iago had not eaten more than a couple mg of canned food and was extremely lethargic so I called another vet-- Brickell Animal Hospital. They saw me that same day, agreed that Iago needed further testing and gave me medicine and a syringe to nurse him to health. Sure enough, he was positive for worms, has since been treated and is now healthier than ever. It was evident that Dr. Duggan and Bay Road Animal Clinic cared more about my wallet than my animal, as I never head from them again--I never even got the call they promised as a reminder for the next appointment. Dr, Duggan saved my old dog from uncertain death, I called ahead explaining the symtons and when i arrived the good Doctor was waiting outside the clinic with injection in hand ready to help. My little chiuahua mix had possibly eaten poison or leadbased paint and was on the brink of expiring, the medicine was given and a hope and prayer and after a week my little charge was back to vibrant health. I guess the best way to start is that my dog loves to go see Dr Duggan! This is a very homey and pet centered practice. We have dogs and cats and over the years have gone for routine care as well as emergencies. In each case, I have been very pleased with the care our pets have received at Bay Road Animal Hospital. I brought my animals here and one got really sick. The vet basically gave up and said there was nothing he could do and that cats were desert animals and not to worry. he did a test and said my cat had something viral and there was nothing more he could do. I brought my cat elsewhere cause he was near death and I told the new vet what he said about my cat being dehydrated. He had said cats were desert animals and not too worry. The current vet was in total disbelief and said he should not have a liscene and that she has heard many negative things about him. She was also in disbelief he never gave my cat a shot to help hydrate him. After going to the second vet he instantly started to get better. I then switched vets. When the receptionist called to have the records transfered his receptionist was rude to my new vet's office and when I calmly called myself to see why that was. Due to my current economic situation, I've had to recently use a discount vet service which comes through a local pet store once a month for my dogs shots ( rabies, etc...). This service, however, is not permitted to sell the rabies tags, so I went by Bay Road Animal Clinic today to purchase the tags, hoping to get a glance at a possible future vet to use. When I walked in, James slid open the little window to the office and stared at me....no hello, just stared at me. I explained to him what I needed and he told me no. He then told me to take my business back to where I had gotten the shots. I said that i would take my business elsewhere, to which he smirked and said ""Someone else will get your business? Yeah, that's why you go to PetCo for your shots. You're not a client here!"" Wow......I was shocked. I then went to Alton Road Animal Hospital where I was treated very well by friendly staff. WOW! What a racket. Ok so I take my dog to see Dr. Duggan. I get shots, check up, bloodwork. All good. Problem is he suggests I get Advantage for ticks and fleas and that is a preventative. My dog needed to kill all existing fleas and eggs. I was able to get him a pill at the dog spa facility at my building at The Flamingo South Beach for $5.00. THEN I call to get a travel certificate. My dog was just there a month ago yet they require the dog goes back for a whole other check-up which of course has a fee. THEN the only appointment I can get was during work hours.I decided to take my chances, bring my pet's proof of last vet visit showing he is in good health ok for travel. I called Bay Road Animal Clinic today to gather information on treatment for tapeworms for my dog. The receptionist, Lucy, gave me the info I requested and set an appt. I called back a few minutes later to ask for the exact name of the medication that would be administered, because it struck me that Lucy said my dog would be receiving a shot rather than pills (pills are more commonly used for the treatment of tapeworms). I wanted to research this type of treatment prior to the visit. Lucy put me on hold so she could ask the doctor for the name of the medication that would be administered. Instead of Lucy returning with the answer, James (the ""doctor""), picked up and simply said, ""Why?"". I was surprised and thought perhaps he meant to answer a different line. I repeated my question and he then asked 'why' again. Before I could even answer he rattles off the name of 3 medications very quickly. When I asked if he could spell the names so I could research them, he tells me that he graduated from the University of Florida and that he doesn't have to explain himself to anyone - and that if I wanted to bring my dog in for the treatment, I should do so without asking questions. When my cat got very sick 2 years ago, i first went to south beach animal hospital. they wanted 1500 dol for 3 days treatment. i couldn't afford that. i went to see dr duggan, and for 60 dol he saved my cat's life. he knew i had not a lot of money but he loves animals before anything, he's not gonna let an animal dies because he want some money like the others. Last year, another cat got sick, i went to banfield hospital in Midtown, it cost me more than 1000 dol even though i have the insurance with them, so i went to see doctor duggan and he healed my cat for 90 dol. Everyone has to say goodbye to a loved pet at one time or another. it is a hard thing to do. My vet helped me get 1 more good day from my Shepard even though he was terminally ill and it was his time. He helped to arrange to put him out of his misery quietly, painlessly, and with me in attendance. Dr. Duggan give us as long as we needed together in that room and I appreciate it. I have been taking my best friend to Dr. Duggan almost since I moved to Miami Beach from New York a few years back. I tried a few other Veternarians' here but they were a little too large/corporate sell sell sell oriented for my taste. At Bay Road Animal Clinic, Dr. Duggan sticks to the facts and helping your pet and not trying to sell you a bunch of unneeded stuff. He takes as much time as needed to answer all questions. I had to take my dog Socio in for shots and a checkup in preperation for a trip on short notice. I was able to make the appointment the same day at bay Road Animal Clinic. I did not have to wait in the waiting room for a long time and the place was clean and did not smell like, well, a vet's office. Socio was treated well by Dr. Duggan and seemed not as scared as he was at other vet offices. The doctor took his time with my little buddy and did a thorough exam. We got our shots and when we got the bill it was much less than many of the high prices I was quoted at other places on Miami Beach we could not get appointments at in the first place. I had called several other clinics prior to Bay Road and was turned off by the staff and the prices scared me.
