I refuse to put money into a business that does something as barbaric as declawing a cat. Dr. Woodby came strongly recommended for a much needed second opinion, after my 10-year-old pup's heart condition started to get worse. His original veterinarian was Dr. Hector Martinez at St. Francis Animal Clinic. He was being treated by Dr. Martinez, but was only getting worse and he no longer had other treatment options for my boy. I thought my last baby was about to suffer the same fate as his two siblings.We brought him in for a visit and Dr. Woodby examined him and immediately put him on a few different medications. Within a few days my boy began acting like a puppy, with newfound energy and playfulness that we had not seen in quite a while. This treatment extended his life for over two years. When it was time to put my boy down, Dr. Woodby had already reserved a spot for us while the office was closed. He gave us plenty of time to spend with him in his final moments. Dr. Woodby explained step-by-step how the process was going to happen. He was very patient with us and would come in the room to check on us and our pup, periodically. He could see how much we were suffering leading up to his last breath. He was kind enough to let us stay and mourn for as long as we cared to. Dr. Woody and his staff are very professional, caring and compassionate, something Dr. Martinez lacks. You can tell the staff sincerely enjoys what they do. They actually care for the animals and treat them as their own. I am profoundly grateful Dr. Woodby gave my little guy two extra years. Many years ago our dachshund had a spinal issue and we were recommended to seek the advice of Dr. Karen Ashby at Calusa Crossing Animal Hospital. She was amazing and with her help we found the right surgeon for our Fat (our dog's name) and he made a full recovery. After that experience, we began taking Fat to his regular vet appointments at Calusa with Dr. Woodby who is also amazing and treats our Fat with the best care. Fat has had several other issues and the vets and staff at Calusa have always exceptionally cared for his well being as well as calmed our fears and anxieties. We’ve been taking our senior Siamese cats with special health issues here since we moved to Miami in Jan 2013. One has colitis and dental issues; the other has kidney issues. Dr. Woodby is calm and puts anxious pet parents at ease as best he can while being clear about what the cats need. He helped to diagnose their problems by taking the least invasive and least expensive options first, and only then recommended more serious measures until we got their problems under control. If you love you dog, do not take them to this place. I took my dog on Saturday and the Doctor said that I would have to leave dog in order to check out what it had. The next day I called and no one was there to answer the phone. I just wanted to know how my dog was doing and without any update I began to worry. I came back on Monday to pick my dog up and was greeted with unknown results and a long list of medication that they supposedly gave to my dog. This is the only place they give medicine to a animal without knowing what they have. I ended up paying more than $1,000.00 for testing and medication of an unknown cause. Read Less

Dr. Woodby saved the life of one of my hairy babies when we were ready to euthanize her. She suffered from a rare disease and he was able to find it and treat it and thus saving her life. Eventually the time came due to old age to put her to sleep and he made the process a lot easier. I love him and his staff. Now we have 3 more babies and they are all in his care. We have a new schnauzer that had been sneezing and coughing all night. As Calusa Crossing is literally a 2 minute walk from my office it was an easy choice as far as convenience. Little did we know how wonderful this place is. When we called the person that my wife spoke to was caring and very nice. Even telling us to bring him in as soon as we could. Once we were there the staff were very friendly and the Vet was great. he said how there are tests that they could do but it would cost over $150 and he just didn't see the need for it as he said the kennel cough would go away in a week. Not many places turn down the opportunity for extra money but the Vet seemed more interested in the health of our new addition to our schnauzer family rather than the extra money. So, long story short, we are now making this the official vet for both of our Schnauzers. Great Place! Read Less

My family has been taking our animals to Dr. Woodby for over twenty years and not once has ever mistreated any of our animals. The staff are amazing, and very helpful. When the inevitable had to be done (euthanization on very sick pets) they were right there to comfort us. The prices are reasonable and the work is professional. I will admit that I had taken one pet cat to a different vet and she was way too scared to touch him (he does get a bit "angry" around doctors) but Dr. Woodby just threw two towels over him and went in for the snatch. Dr. Woody has proven time and again to be the best veterinarian there is. He just removed a large cancerous tumor from my rescues foot even though he is also heart worm positive. I started taking my pets to Dr. Woodby when I was in high school. My best friend at the time worked for him and was so thrilled with the type of person/veterinarian he was so that was enough to convince me. That was over 15 years ago!Unfortunately, I now live out of state but when I travel "home" to Miami, my pets always come with me. I have had to being my dogs in on a couple of those trips. His office personnel is always wonderful about making it a point to get us in as quickly as possible. They may not know you, but they still treat you as if you were their top priority. Dr. Woodby always says "if it were my dog..." when he refers to whatever treatment, diagnosis he may have. That, to me, is a sign of a true animal lover as well as an empathetic veterinarian. I had taken my dogs to another vet in the area and felt like I was overpaying for services. I found Calusa Crossing Animal Hospital through Yelp (yay!) and decided to give them a shot. My dog had a lump that was starting to grow and I took her to see Dr. Woodby. He was amazing and straight to the point. He did not give me the run around or try to get me to pay for things that were unnecessary. My girl gets extremely stressed at the vet. I asked him to muzzle her for a bit so she won't snap. He said he didn't want to if it wasn't needed, just for me to hold her and talk to her. While she was very nervous, by me talking to her and holding her, she allowed him to check her. At the other vet I took her to, they muzzled her without hesitation and she was way over stressed, she even got a fever there. With Dr. Woodby, he was quick and calmed my girl down nicely by just having me talk to her.My girl had minor surgery and she is all better. Thanks Dr. Woodby and staff. Dr. Woodby is a great vet. But the office staff is not very helpful. I asked them to give me an estimate on how much it would be to have 3 dogs given the heartworm shots and the person gave me the estimate which I explained to her if this was everything and she said yes ( I even kept the paper where she wrote the price down). Well to my SURPRISE - I took my 3 dogs in thinking that would be around $129.00 as she told me. Once they did the test for the heartworm and gave them the shots - come to fine out that each HEARTWORM TEST WAS $32.50 (which is drawing blood) for EACH DOG WHICH $97.50 a price the person did not give me when I requested teh estimate. I paid $100 more which if I would have know I would have taken 1 dog at a time. A costly mistaken which I do not appreciate from his staff. Charging $32.50 to test for heartworms on each dog is ridculous. Read Less
