Miami Veterinary Specialists are amazing! We went in when our 5 month old puppy broke her leg in our backyard. They were very efficient in taking x-rays and diagnosing the problem, but most of all they were kind and gentle with her. They immediately had her sedated so she would not be in pain. We go back every 10 days to have her splint changed and the techs always give her a pretty pink splint with cute designs. They are very sweet and loving to our dog when we get there. I've been going to this vet for emergencies for several years. It's completely out of my way, but they're a very professional, compassionate, well-trained staff so I think it's worth it. One of my cats has had two major successful surgeries there and I just had to have a different one put to sleep. It's a terrible event in any pet owner's life, but they made it as comfortable as possible. We had all the time we wanted to say goodbye and we were able to be there for his final moments and they didn't rush us out even after that. Friendly people but they didn't follow thru with calling me back with my pets blood work within 12 to 24 hours like they said they would. Went on friday, it is now Tuesday and "the doctor" I dealt with is on vacation until Thursday ...7 days for me to get results from my doctor...and now I paid 400 for them to do blood work and they don't want to send me the copy without approval and now going on 2 days from requesting that. When I moved back to Miami from Broward several years ago, I visited a number of vets to try to decide which would provide my pets with the best care if a serious problem were ever to arise. Not too long ago a serious problem DID arise -- my big dog got a bone lodged in his esophagus, right above his heart. I was referred to Miami Veterinary Specialists by another emergency vet clinic due to MVS's expertise and experience. Miami Veterinary Specialists were operating within the hour. They saved my dog's life. They are available 24/7. I don't believe my dog could possibly have been given faster or better treatment anywhere. I recently had to bring "Bear" my cat to Miami Veterinary Specialists for a urinary blockage. Turned out he needed an operation and I am so glad that I took him here for the procedure. I felt very confident in the staff and doctors. They did a wonderful job and allowed me to visit day and night which I strongly believe helped in his recovery. I know it helped me manage the stress of my poor bear cat being ill. Any time I had a question they were very quick to give me a precise answer. And did I mention the staff was terrific? They are, even when I took him home, they made follow up calls and were very kind to me and Bear when we came in for the follow up visit. Real professionals!!! Our dog had an anal gland tumor removed by a different vet at another clinic who nearly killed him. He perforated his intestine/rectal wall and our dog had a terrible infection for weeks that almost killed him. We decided to take him to Miami Veterinary Specialist to be treated because the infection was getting worse, and our dog was in a lot of pain. Our dog underwent two to three more surgeries and is doing much much better now! This was all thanks to Doctor Andrade who is a highly qualified board certified surgeon. Thanks to her and her staff, our dog was saved and is almost 100% recovered. If your pet needs to undergo surgery, be very wary of who you take him to. Some vets are not qualified to perform certain types of surgeries, and will kill your dog or leave him permanently scarred just to make some money. We highly recommend this Vet hospital for any surgical procedure your pet might need. Dr. Sardinas hands down is the best surgeon for collapsed trachea issues in South Florida! We drive over an hour in rush hour traffic because we trust him and his staff to care for our 11-year-old yorkie who has had a collapsed trachea since 2012. It's a severe case and other places we have taken him to have wanted to do a stent right away. Dr. Sardinas has used the right approach and kept him on increased meds for 4 years now. He has had a few bad episodes here and there, but overall he has been doing great! His trachea has collapsed more in the 4 years as it is a progressive disease. Yesterday our day was full of short breaths, heartbreaks, and agonizing thoughts as what to do and not knowing what was in store for our future and our baby Sophie (she's 9 lol). Not to mention, she is my Mom's world and her birthday is today Feb 26. Our baby Sophie was diagnosed with Uterus problems, and infection, anemia . She hadn't ate in days, and was very weak. We thought we were about to lose her, we were losing ourselves in the process. We went to several places for estimates, almost unreal to believe in price, even with pre-approval from care credit it was too much to handle. But luckily, we found this caring heart warming place MVS with an Amazing Dr. Luis Garcia, who immediately took action of our baby Sophie, yorkie, 2.97 pounds, and made us feel at ease, not only price worth, but like true family. We have cried like you have no idea, for how thankful we are! To have found such an amazing pet hospital like this! All negative reviews are false! Staff is caring and tonight we sleep a little more peaceful because the Dr. called and said our baby did good in surgery. We are Beyond blessed! MVS is a the best veterinary clinic I have ever been at. The staff is very courteous, profesional and compassionate. My scwt was referred to Dr Andrade for a meningioma in the brain and she made sure to explain everything in detail, gave us options, and recommended the best treatment. Long story short, surgery was on Monday and it's Thurdsay and my poochie is home. Dr Andrade went above and beyond for my dog and I do not have enough words to express my gratitude. "Always Open" but heaven forbid you actually take your sick or dying pet there in the middle of the night; Dr. Perez is a jackass who apparently doesn't understand what it means to work at a clinic that is open 24 hours and Dr. Argue is a piece of sh*t who only wants to milk you for all of your money. This place is run by total amateurs. The vet tech who saw my dog had filthy hands, with grime caked under his nails. Gross. The vet who saw my dog looked like a crayon box exploded in her hair - not very professional for a doctor. She did at least speak with my dog's regular vet, but was very poor at communicating what treatments she felt were best. She just kept pointing to a piece of paper that had notes scrawled on it. When I got home and looked up my dog's temp, I was astonished that the vet didn't make a bigger deal of how high it was - one degree higher would likely have been fatal. But the vet just acted like this wasn't that big of a deal. It was. The receptionists were young cackling girls who were more interested in socializing than doing their job. They didn't say one reassuring thing when I stood there with tears in my eyes when I left my dog there to be hospitalized. How cold and unkind. The lack of communication between the staff and pet owners is astounding. I was told after my dog was hospitalized that someone would call me to let me know how she was doing. No one called. When I called, they couldn't tell me if my dog was able to walk because they hadn't taken her out yet - so when I called after they said she would be walked, I was upset to find they STILL hadn't checked to see if she could walk (she couldn't when I brought her there). The vet had no explanation for why my dog had been there for over 8 hours getting IV fluids and no one had taken her to go out. I said there was no way I would keep my dog there overnight with such an unprofessional staff, so I picked her up at around 9 pm. When I took my dog outside the office, she peed like crazy - because no one ever let her out to go potty. Poor baby must have been so uncomfortable. The tech who gave me the dog's meds did not give me a syringe to dose the medication. That tech couldn't tell me anything about how my dog was doing, and justified her ignorance by saying that she had only just come onto her shift. The dingbat at the front desk said it would take about 2 weeks for my credit card to be refunded for the expenses that were not incurred since I picked up my dog early. I cannot express strongly enough how unprofessional the entire experience with this place was. From the smelly waiting room to the loud vending machine there to the rude receptionist to the clueless and dirty techs, to the well-meaning but rather air-headed vet -- I cannot find anything positive to say except that at least they got my dog's fever down and didn't kill her. Some people say this place just wants to take your money - I didn't get the impression that they were money-grubbers, just that the whole organization is very poorly run and is staffed by total amateurs. I would never trust them with my pet's life, and don't think anyone else should trust them either.Read Less

Nothing good to say! Unprofessional no communication and a total lack of compassion for our dog. Their delay in care may have cost him his life. And all they cared about was money!!! Thank god he was pulled from there and brought to a specialty neuro vet. We pray he will make it but do not know yet bc of the delay in care and poor treatment at this facility!! This is an excellent quality ER facility to take your pet. Very professional staff and very caring as well. Dr. Ivan Perez was exceptional with our Valentina. She is a Jack Russell that is 5 years old that bit a poisonous toad. She went into convulsions and her blood pressure skyrocketed to 220. It took me 5 minutes to get there and they treated her immediately with IV fluids and oxygen. This was around 6:30 pm and we went home around 9:30 pm and she was stable. Dr. Perez kept us informed several times about her progress. At 3 am he texted us that she was much better. He texted us again in the am that we could pick her up and take her home. So glad she made it and thankful for the medical care she received. I highly recommend this office. Hope not to have to use it because of a pet emergency but so glad that they are there and have so much love for sick pets. They are the best!Read Less

I agree with all the other 1-star reviews regarding Laura D'Amico, "surgeon." Toward the end of the reviews on this page, you will see all the 1-stars regarding Laura. Remember that name, Laura D'Amico, and make sure you don't have her tend to your family pet. You will be sorry. I had a similar experience with her when I brought my cat in for a consultation as all her other 1-star reviews. Laura was arrogant in her demeanor, which is obviously an overcompensation for a LACK OF SKILL. She is professionally inexperienced, didn't have an intelligent thing to say about my pet's condition and someone that I would NEVER entrust the care of my family pet. This "surgeon" had absolutely no regard for who she inconvenienced. She had a major attitude and was rude to me in her consultation. I was a bit surprised that this office would allow their doctors to treat customers in such an unprofessional, arrogant manner. I will not be returning and I would highly suggest taking your pet to another veterinary service that truly cares for the well-being of your family pet. And if the owner tries to flaunt that they have only board certified surgeons on staff, Laura did not conduct herself to the high standards of board certification. Read Less

I went into the emergency on Saturday because my vet was closed and my 14 week old golden retriever was having diarrhea and vomiting for about an hr. I went to the E.R. And as soon as we arrived the front desk put us in a room and had a doctor come in right away. Dr.Perez examined our puppy right away and was there for us at every moment along he way. He called us to give us status updates, and gave us hope and optimism with each action that needed to be taken. At one point, Our puppy received an enema to expel the contents of his bowels, and we Immediately walked him so he could poop. Dr. Perez took the time to go outside with us to ensure that our Toby pooped just fine and to visually inspect the poop to make sure that the worst was behind us. He was truly interested in your pet's well being, and is by far one of the best veterinarians we have had. The entire staff was so attentive and helpful and my puppy was cared for very well. I have to be very grateful to all of them because our doggy was diagnosed with lymphoma and sadly he lost the fight. He is in doggy heaven now. Coco's Pet Ranch rescues senior, injured and animals that are hard to adopt. Lana who was rescued a few months ago collapsed and became paralyzed. We took the three our trip to MVS so she could have a chance at the best. You see we have had multiple rescues who have had surgery there and each one did great. Lana will be returning for her follow up after compressed disk surgery . We wouldn't take an injured animal on such a long trip if we had any doubts of their care. I just wanted to congratulate you on acquiring such a great asset as Dr. Christopher Potanas. I am a Connecticut resident, and my first experience with him during a crisis with my cat was excellent. He took the time to explain the problem, and my options, and the pros and cons of each, and was willing to work with me on my personal choices. This is a rare find these days.
