Redbird Animal Clinic has very good service and is conveniently located. The vet is very pleasant, and is always kind and caring to all of his patients. He always gives us helpful and clear tips on how to improve our pet's health. A few years ago my cat, Kimba, had a very severe case of worms. We brought her to the Dr. Cruz, and he gave us some great advice. He prescribed some medication for her, and she has been in good health since. They always send us reminders for when our cats are do for their vaccines, which I really appreciate. Of the several vets I called to get a quote on dental work for my cat, Red Bird was one of only two that would give me a specific breakdown for costs. All the others just said "it depends" and gave me a wide range that was all beyond what I could afford. While I ended up taking my cat somewhere closer to home, I was extremely impressed by Red Bird's prompt and thorough responses to my call and follow-up e-mail. He also has a very kind and gentle manner with the animals. When he doesn't know an answer, he researches or refers you to a specialist. We had to put my elderly dog down after he started having multiple seizures. We recently moved to the area and went to Redbird after reading other reviews. The Doctor agreed to see us even though we had never been there before, had no appointment, and he was about to leave the office to attend a family function. Throughout our visit, the Doctor and his staff were so kind and made us feel at home during this very difficult moment. I'm not exaggerating when I say that Dr. Cruz is truly an ANGEL, and I praise him and the Red Bird staff every chance I get!In 2008, I found a stray dog and took him to Red Bird to check his chip because it just happened to be the closest vet around. The girl at the front desk told me that he was a young, pure-bred cocker spaniel, registered to "Puppies to Go" (a HORRIBLE animal shop that I've already reviewed here on Yelp). After calling the pet shop, posting a Craigslist ad, and putting up signs, no one claimed the dog. A week or two into this, I fell in love with him, and I couldn't picture being without him! So, we kept him, and we named him "Charlie."Pretty soon thereafter, we noticed that Charlie had blood in his stool. So, we went back to Red Bird Animal Clinic to have them check him out. Turns out, Charlie had heart worms, stomach worms, an advanced ear infection, and a skin infection! He also had a bite mark on the top of his right ear that looked to be infected. Charlie needed MAJOR life-saving treatment, and Dr. Cruz had a big talk with me to prepare me for Charlie's death (which he believed was almost certain at this point). I told Dr. Cruz that I couldn't afford the thousands upon thousands of dollars that it would take to even TRY to save Charlie with the little chances he had. I was working full-time to get through college back then, and I had no way of pulling it off. Considering that he knew Charlie was a rescue, and that he knew my circumstances, Dr. Cruz gave me each and every discount he could, as well as a payment plan, all to give Charlie a shot at life. He didn't have to do any of it, but he found it in his heart to help us get through this!Charlie had to go through weeks of sitting in a cage without movement so that his heart wouldn't get out of control. He went through so many doctor visits, medicines, x-rays, needle pricks, biopsies, stool samples... I can't even tell you how many. But thankfully, after all of that hard work, Dr. Cruz and the Red Bird staff saved his life! Charlie was at the clinic so often, I remember one of the young techs getting teary eyed when Charlie was finally able to go home and not come back until his next annual exam. But, sure enough, I stuck with Red Bird just like they stuck with Charlie! (I stopped going there only because I moved out of the area, and I was sad to have to change clinics!)I have now had Charlie for 8 wonderful years. He'll be approx. 9 years old in April, and he has a clean bill of health. I said before that Dr. Cruz saved Charlie's life, but he really saved mine, too. This boy has been a life-changing miracle for me. I always tell people that he fell out of the sky and onto my lap during a difficult time in my life so that I would have someone to look after and love. Without having him during that time period, I really don't know where I would be, but I know my life wouldn't be as good as it is right now.THANK YOU, DR. A friend gave my wife and I a one month old orange kitten that she found on the street. The kitten was in really bad shape. We first went to the petsmart vet and they were awful- the petsmart vet tech even accidentally let a metal door close on the poor kittens head. I couldn't give the kitten away after that. Luckily, we found Red Bird on yelp and took the kitten there. The kitten had burnt paws from living on the street, malnutrition, etc. Dr. Cruz gave us everything we needed and the kitten regained weight and became very healthy and happy. We had Dr. Cruz neuter the kitten and do all the shots and it was all reasonably priced given the level of care.We've been taking both our cats here now for about two years, and Red Bird's done a great job. With an appointment, I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes and everyone is always very nice. The cost is very reasonable. The only thing that ends up being expensive is the monthly cat flea medicine but there's really no getting around that if you want good flea meds. I highly recommend Red Bird. Read Less

It's been 4 months since our family member/dog passed away.  Dr. Cruz took care of him since he was 8 weeks old.  He neutered him, helped him allergies, among all the regular check ups.  My dog loved, loved, loved going to see Dr. Cruz.  As soon as we pulled in to the parking lot he would go nuts in the car.  Sadly he had cancer but Dr. Cruz was instrumental in prolonging the inevitable with his research and advice.  We have since moved away from Miami but will miss Dr. Cruz and his staff very much.  I highly recommend him. I am so glad to have this public forum to applaud the Red Bird Animal Clinic. I visited the clinic last week for my dog's annual exam and inquiry about loss of pigment on his nose. Dr. Cruz was warm and gentle with my dog and able to anticipate and answer all of my questions in a detailed and caring manner. Dr. Cruz was thoughtful about whether to administer all the vaccinations at one time considering the dog's previous medical history. The loss of pigment involved a decision as to whether to biopsy/sample the area and Dr. Cruz advised that since the nose is such a sensitive area, the sampling procedure might aggravate the condition. Dr. Cruz felt that the best course of action was to wait and see and he stated that he would call in a week to check on the dog's progress. I left the clinic feeling satisfied and listened to and my dog,who suffers from post traumatic stress due to prior hospitalizations, was calmer than I would have expected after a full exam.The best was yet to come. Yesterday I noticed that the three year rabies tag/license that I purchased had fallen off my dog's collar. I called the Vet's office about a replacement tag and was told that the Animal Control Ordinance allowed a replacement tag at the cost of $5, however the tag would be a one year tag meaning that last week's $81 expense was now null. I became quite irate at the unfair treatment and was told that it was a County/State rule and there was nothing that the vet could do. Much to my surprise about an hour later I received a call from Susie Londono, the clinic receptionist, who had called Animal Control and dealt with the bureaucracy for me and convinced an officer at Animal Control to allow the clinic to reissue a replacement three year tag for a replacement fee. Susie had all of the information, including the Officer's name should I run into any difficulty. She also showed great understanding and compassion and took time and energy to be certain the new tag and the dog's old microchip tag were securely attached to his collar.Thank you Dr. Cruz and Susie for redefining excellence in caring service. I have been bringing my cats and strays to Dr. Cruz for many years. He is such a warm, calm and caring veterinarian. He and his staff provide such a great environment. He is never rushed and spends the time patiently with you sensibly evaluating your cat or dog. He doesn't order more test than necessary in order to properly evaluate your pet. His empathy and sensitivity to what you are going through in reference to your concern for your pet is unmatched by others. His competence is exceptional. Dr Cruz was very gentle and seemed very caring. He suggested how to introduce my new cat to me kitty and suggested what I can do to make sure my new cat maintains optimal health. I really liked Dr Cruz and his staff and will continue to take my cat there. They also gave me a 'found cat' discount which was great and Dr Cruz participates in a program which helps the animals of homeless people in miami which makes me love this vet even more. I have taken my dog Molly here since I got her at 8 weeks old. She's five now. First of all, it's rather convenient to get an appointment. They open at around 8am so Ive been able to take my dog there before work. Dr. Cruz is great with his patients - both canines and the parents. He is gentle with my and explains everything in detailed and understandable laymen's terms. He is young but extremely knowledgeable and reliable. He and his staff are very honest and realistic about treatments and pricing. I've brought my dog here since he was a puppy. It was recommended by a friend, who's husband worked there. Dr. Cruz is patient and gentle with my dog. At the same time, he is very knowledgeable and professional. His office staff is friendly and they inform you about the cost of all services up front. I brought my 5 year old dog in for non anesthesia dental cleaning and he was too freaked out. to get it. Dr. Cruz then called and asked if he can do an anesthesia one. I accepted and 2 hours later got a call that he had died during sedation.That was in October.Today I receive a postcard reminding me to bring him in for a checkup. How heartless can one office be. Dr. Cruz is a fantastic vet and his little office employs a very fine staff. I always get follow up calls or emails after my visits, and very clear instructions in an emergency. One could easily overlook the place because it's in the middle of a giant shopping center but it's a gem of a business. Although I no longer live in Miami, I have to share my love for the Red Bird Animal Clinic. The staff are some of the nicest people ever and I never felt worried when I boarded my dog with them. Not only did they remember her every time we came back, but my dog was always genuinely happy to return. On top of that, when my parents' older dog became sick while they were visiting me, Dr. Cruz took very good care of him and continued to check in on him even after they had returned to New York.
