To say that this veterinary practice is amazing would be a complete understatement. If you broke down Dr. Khuly's attributes as a person into quarters, it would consist of: 1) Genius - Dr. Khuly has studied at some of the finest institutions of higher education in the country. As if it wasn't enough to obtain a medical degree from an Ivy League university, she also has an MBA. #GirlBoss!2) Tenacity - she never once gave up, even in perplexing situations. She's quite a sleuth!3) Miracle Worker/Angel - I never thought that angels could walk the earth, and then I met Dr. Khuly (and her staff!)4) Pure, unadulterated compassion - not just for animals, but also for people. She is down to earth, keeps it real, and has a kind, composed way about her (must be the yoga). She's just downright cool. Dr. Khuly saved my 16-year-old cat's life and for that, I am forever grateful. When I brought Scout in, unresponsive and basically lifeless, I did not think that I would be taking him home four days later. Dr. Khuly literally dropped everything she was doing to care for him with both swiftness and calmness. She worked methodically to interpret his bloodwork and explained all of my options for treatment, with kindness, honesty and integrity. I decided to leave him with her for 2-4 days as she promised she would take care of him and work her magic. Although it was our first time meeting, there was a level of sincerity rarely found these days, and I instantly believed in her. She called me twice a day, every day, to give me status updates. At one point she considered taking him home with her, overnight. She checked on him repeatedly after hours. She gave me ample time to come and visit him every day, and on the day that I had my not-sick-dog with me, she created a welcoming environment for him too (he was probably confused about why he was going to the vet). When she was puzzled by Scout's bloodwork and responses to medications, she sought counsel from other veterinarians. Ultimately, she diagnosed him with a rare medical condition I'm honestly not sure any other vet would have found. I am certain no one else would have put in the time and effort that she did to research and treat the condition. The level of care that I received here was so above and beyond my expectations. If you've read some of my other reviews, you know that I can be a pretty tough customer. If I could give 10 stars to Sunset Animal Clinic, I would! Beyond the medical team and staff, the office is also stylishly decorated and impeccably kept. This is actually the first vet I've gone to that didn't have any weird smells whatsoever. There is ample parking out front although depending on what time you go, you may need to circle the lanes a few times as the other stores in the plaza (Winn Dixie being the anchor store) are busy as well. This is an amazing veterinarian. I discovered Sunset Animal Clinic when I needed help for one of my cats who was very old and her body was just shutting down. All of the team at Sunset are truly genuine and love what they do and it shows.  From the front desk, the techs who have to do all the necessary stuff to the vets themselves. I was truly floored by the service and the humble pricing also. It wasn't painfully expensive for this trip. Now, I bring all of my animals and even guest animals when we baby sit (unbelievably- not everyone takes their dogs for annual check ups and licensing).  When I can recommend Sunset Animal Clinic, I do with a smile and tell them they will not go anywhere else. I love Sunset Animal Clinic- I really do. Based on a glowing rec from former neighbors and trusted friends, I began taking our pets to Sunset after moving to Miami in 2013. When I started with them, Dr. Rocky & Dr. Fawcett were still in command. Both vets saw our combo of critters (3 dogs & 2 cats) a number of times and we loved their old-school style and the obvious care and compassion they had for our furry children. Dr. Khuly, as I understand, bought out the practice, expanded the space and gave it a hip fun vibe. Over the last couple of years, we've seen a variety of very young vets new to the practice and to be clear, they too were knowledgeable and compassionate in spite of looking like college kids. The ladies at the front desk are great- on the ball and a pleasure to deal with which anymore is a rarity. My only complaint about Sunset is that the pricing has increased dramatically- like to a crazy degree. I'm not a bargain hunter when it comes to healthcare for my family- critters certainly included- though when you have 5 pets, you tend to take notice when the price of a procedure almost doubles. I removed a star for pricing alone; I appreciate Sunset but believe their pricing for basic services too high and that it increased too dramatically too quickly. I certainly hope (read: suggest) prices don't continue to rise because I think they're otherwise awesome! Read Less

This is the best office we have ever been to! Our sweet Missie dog was suffering and we thought the worst. When we got there, the staff was on it, the Dr and staff was understanding and very clear on what needed to be done. Our sweet senior boy was diagnosed with the later stages of renal failure. The news has been devastating to us. But I cannot express my gratitude at being at the hands of both Dr. Duenas her assistant Micki. Their compassion and dedication has meant the world. Dr. Duenas tool the time to answer our questions, give as much information as possible, and did so with great kindness. My husband and I especially appreciated her honesty and compassion. Just switched over to this clinic and so far I am very happy! The front desk staff is friendly and really efficient, they were able to pull the files for both of my dogs from their previous vet before their appointment. They also have a big waiting area and try to separate dogs and cats which I appreciate since my dogs HATE cats.Dr. Duenas was extremely sweet and knowledgeable and my dog ended up needing TPLO surgery so we were referred to a surgeon but Dr. Duenas called me after her surgery to check up on my dog which I found so sweet!Will definitely be taking my other dog and recommending to my friends. I'm so glad to have had Sunset Animal Clinic for the 2.5 years I lived in Miami.  I worked for years (and have now resumed working) at a nonprofit animal clinic, so so I consider myself quite in tune with what to look for in a veterinary facility.  Dr. Khuly is awesome - friendly and smart, taking her time with each patient, answering all your paranoid-pet-owner questions, and never pushing treatments that aren't needed.  The front desk is just as pleasant, and the waiting area is always tranquil for the pets.  (Having separate entrances for the dogs and cats certainly helps!.  I've never had trouble getting an appointment in the time I needed, even when I first called as a new patient.  Phone and e-mail correspondence is always swift.  The prices here are more reasonable compared with other vets - which, as a full-time student, I truly appreciated.  My cat and I have moved from Miami since, but we're truly grateful for the care Sunset Animal Clinic gave us. Dr. Khuly was extremely caring and respectful to my dog who can easily be frightened by overly aggressive handling. Very disappointed in my encounter with this clinic. They insisted on treating a 4 month old Labrador puppy with an antibotic that could be detrimental to her health. There were plenty of other choices, but chose to use a potentially harmful one. Also when I questioned her choice, she became irate and nasty. Also hung up on me, not allowing me to speak. She was very un professional.They have tried to get me to take this post off, but will not change their policy as to prescribing harmful antibotics to growing puppies. A group of antibiotics can cause cartiledge damage to growing puppies. Read Less

After our beloved Dr. Donocoff (we love you Dr. D!!!) moved to New York to lead a research study at a university, we thought we would never find that connection with another veterinarian again. We continued as patients at the same clinic, each visit more disappointing than the last. I was starting to think we would have to fly to New York.I found Sunset Animal Clinic on Yelp and was instantly drawn to Dr. Khuly because of her bright pink hair. I have yet to meet a person with hot pink hair I didn't love (see: husband).  Of course, someone's hair color is not reason enough to entrust your pets life in their (very cool) hands. Upon further research I found Dr. Khuly's website where she has several columns, blog posts, and an extensive list of awards and qualifications. This awesome lady has been published everywhere from The Miami Herald to a magazine about chickens and USA Today.Obviously she had to be my dogs new veterinarian.The clinic staff is awesome to start. Making an appointment was a breeze, and they took care of transferring my pets records from their old clinic.Yes, you read that right. They ACTUALLY transferred the information without hiccup. Amazing.The clinic itself is cute, clean, and chic. They have an entrance for dogs and an entrance for cats. The patients in the waiting room were all calm and happy. They even had baskets of toys for you to play with your pooch in the meantime.My wait was about 10 minutes after I filled out my new client form. I'm happy to report that the exam room was so modern and clean as well. I waited there another minute or two before Dr. Khuly and her vet tech arrived.Dr. Khuly really filled that room with joy. She was bright, bubbly, and friendly. I instantly felt at ease and I could tell my dogs were too.My dog being seen that day is normally a nervous wreck. I told her about our efforts to socialize him and that we were working with a trainer. She talked to him, Pet him, and played with him until he relaxed. She was very attentive to his body language and was very concerned with him feeling comfortable in this new environment.She was knowledgeable on my dogs breed (sheltie) and what vaccines and medications did and did not mix will with them specifically, something I usually had to inform the other veterinarians about. She even offered alternatives to heartworm preventative that we did not know existed as Shelties often cannot tolerate Hartgard. While they did not carry it at the clinic, they do have a pharmaceutical website we can order from without a prescription which was AWESOME. Another thing I loved is that they did not frown upon the fact that one of my dogs is not neutered. We show dogs, and the purpose of dog shows is to evaluate breeding stock. Naturally, this means a dog being shown cannot be neutered (although we do not personally breed). Our vet did not push neutering blindly and understood that it is possible to be a responsible owner with an in tact dog. I really appreciated the knowledge and insight on the topic and loved that they recommend neutered on a case by case basis depending on what's best for that dog.Overall my experience at Sunset Animal Clinic was phenomenal. From the communication, to the helpful and informed front desk, to the awesome techs, and the adorable chalkboard wall with all of the patients names written on them... this place is truly a gem.I wish I could make a second appointment already just so my husband could experience what I did today. Dr. Patty Khuly is the best! I am a first time cat owner, and have been to see her twice in the past year, just because I am overly cautious since I have never owned a pet before. Everytime I have been there, Dr.Khuly spends about 30 minutes with me answering each of my questions and just talking to me in general. I can tell that she remembers both me and my cat. She is sincerely nice, energetic and has a fun personality that calms my cat and makes him more comfortable. Things at the vet are a little hectic right now because they are under construction, but once they are done I am sure everything will be super amazing. I live about 30 minutes away from this vet office, and sure there are other ones closer to me but I would rather go through the drive to come to this clinic to get quality service. Read Less

I love this vet office. I first found them on yelp, where they have a 5 star review. I had recently lost my cat due to some random thing which was never actually identified at the animal ER on US-1. I paid just short of $5,000 for my cat to be put to sleep in the end. It was horrible and absolutely traumatic! Suddenly a three week old rescue kitten fell in my lap and I have been taking my adult (11 years) cat and the baby (now 6 months old) to Sunset Animal Clinic since then.. My first visit the doctor patiently listened while I cried about my lost one, it had been around a month since he passed. I was afraid because my older one was not eating due to the new baby. Obviously after having spent $5,000 on vet bills less than a month prior, I was nervous when it was time to check out; but the doctor recommended a year check up plan they have which cost me less than $200. I honestly don't remember the bill, but I do remember the relief that I felt. Since then, I have been to a few check ups with the baby and will be neutering him very soon. Called them after checking its wonderful reviewsand being so desperate cause my miniature dachshund is very ill and being seen by three vets already whom have charged me a lot and see her getting worsen. Now she needed to be seen in an emergency since she is bleeding profusely from the paw of her damaged leg and has skin hanging from a hole she chewed on so the wound needs to be cured right away. I was told by the lady who answered the phone to take her to another vet since they were full for the day even though I was begging in tears for my baby's sufferings. This is a great animal CLINIC. It's NOT a hospital. The person who wrote about their experience on July 24, 2011 could not have been speaking about this CLINIC. There is a Sunset Pet Hospital in Hialeah ... a Sunset Animal Hospital in Sunrise ... who knows where they took the puppy. But I am sure of this, it didn't happen at this clinic. The person says they brought their puppy into the hospital at 10:30pm. Sunset Animal Clinic is not open at 10:30pm. They close at 6pm. The reviewer says the doctor said they may need to cut off the puppy's leg .... the clinic would not have said this because they are not an emergency surgical facility. They would have recommended you to take the puppy to the emergency facilty across the street. And you say you got a call the next day at 7am saying the puppy passed away ... they are not open at 7am. They open around 8am. Sunset Animal Clinic is a CLINIC. They are not open the hours you mentioned and they would not take the dog in the emergency state it was in. Sunset Animal Clinic has the nicest staff and most considerated vets. I absolutely would recommend them to anyone and everyone. Additionally, in these hard economic times, I think they are one of the most affordable. All my animals (cats and dogs) have been going to this clinic for 19 years. They win the show in my book! We had been going to another vets for over 1 1/2 years. Our Rottweiler had an infection, he smelled awful, he itched and scratched all the time from ticks and tick bites and nothing our old vet gave us seemed to help. We had spent over $1,000 on him and he was simply not improving. In fact our ex-vet suggested we might want to have him put to sleep and he's not even 2 years old. I read the great reviews here on line about Sunset Animal Clinic and thought they sounded worth a try. We saw Dr. Khuly two Saturdays ago. Within 48 hours our dog was a new dog. She gave him a pill for his bacterial infection which worked like a treat (Temaril P) , she suggested changing his diet, she gave him a special shampoo also used on horses and now, not even two weeks later, he is a new dog. He doesn't scratch any more, the tick collar she gave him worked immediately, his hair has grown back (he was semi bald) and his appetite is through the roof. He has all his energy back - we call it ""How Jet got his groove back"" - guys don't wait, take your pet to this wonderful caring clinic of great Vets, super staff and people who think ""outside the box"" when treating your pet. I've been going to Sunset Animal Clinic for nearly two decades now and have always been extremely pleased with their services and grateful for their knowledge, professionalism and the care with which they treat their patients. My primary vet has always been Dr. Robert Rochfort (Rocky). I currently have 9 felines and he's absolutely wonderful with cats. I never feel rushed when going to Rocky. He takes the time to explain everything. He regularly attends vet conferences and keeps up to date with the latest information on veterinary science so when your pet has a challenging condition Rocky goes that extra mile to make sure its getting the best treatment. He's called me on weekends (including Sundays when the clinic is closed) to check on one of my pets. I've also gone to Dr. James Fawcett and Dr. Patricia Khuly, the other two vets at the clinic. Both have also been wonderful with me and my pets. I've recommended the Sunset Animal Clinic to an endless number of friends and acquaintances and all who've tried them have stayed with them. They provide what I feel is a higher level of service and care than many other MUCH more expensive vet practices. The support staff is equal to none. ALL of them are super sweet, friendly, caring, professional. One thing I like about everyone at this clinic is that they all have pets themselves - often more than one - and I think this is indicative of people who love animals, have compassion and respect for them. They not only know me but they know my pets by name and often greet them warmly, cooing and doing that pet-talk thing we all do with pets and babies ;-) I have no hesitation when I need to leave one of my felines at the clinic for a day or more because I know they'll receive lots of love and attention and care. I live FAR from this clinic - 40-60 mins in bad traffic - but I still go to them because I have never found a place I like more. They have TON of long-time clients because they are the BEST.
