First, I think the vets are okay here.  Have seen dr Curtis and she is a good vet but does not always follow up on things discussed.  The main issue with this place is the outrageous charges.  They are so out of sync with customary pricing and price gouge.  Good luck price shopping any medications they prescribe because they make it incredibly difficult to get medications from anyone but their clinic and they are at least double the price of other reputable pet pharmacies.  The last straw for me was when they charged me $68 for a supplement that I later came across on Amazon for $14.95.  Same brand, same size, same everything.  That is disgusting and they should be ashamed.  We are retired and on a fixed income and of course want the best for our pets but to be taken advantage of like this is just beyond wrong.  There are a lot of good vets out there that don't do business this way-find one of those and steer clear of this one. Dr. Curtis is the reason I'm still going to continue to use this vet. The red haired girl at the front was very friendly and accommodating as well. However, when I brought my cat in to be neutered, my experience was so unpleasant that I would switch vets if it weren't for Dr. Curtis and her gentle, loving care she provides to my kitty. My cat was a new customer so I had to set up a preliminary appointment for exams and shots before the neutering appointment the next day. During this appointment I signed all of the anesthesia paperwork, went over the next days procedure, after-care, and made sure I was completely ready so that I could just drop my cat off on my way to work the next day and pick him up after the neuter. I allowed myself 20 minutes to drop the cat off, which should've been plenty of time because I was assured the day before that it would just be a simple drop-off and I could pick him up at the time I pass back by after work at 5:45 pm.On the way in, my cat sprayed on me and I reeked of that foul scent. I knew I had to go home before work to change but the brunettes at the reception area insisted that I had to wait for the nurse. I waited for some time with a sweet older lady who was bringing in her pet and she mentioned the smell of cat spray and I apologized and explained to her that my cat had sprayed on me and I was just trying to drop him off and go to change before work. She told me they routinely allow drop-offs and suggested that I explain again to the receptionist that I was just there to drop off my pet. The brunette lady very rudely told me that I would have to wait for the nurse anyway. The sweet older lady commented on how "persnickety" she was to me. I waited another nerve-racking 20 minutes for the tattooed nurse to come out and when she did, all she said, while flipping through the papers, was "oh you've already signed this" and then told me that she would call me when I had to pick up my cat. I told her that I had already arranged to be there at 5:45 PM. And she kept repeating that she would call me when it was time for me to come. I was very late to work without even getting to change and got harshly reprimanded and smelled of cat spray. She never called me to tell me when to get him as she kept repeating she would do in response to my telling her that I had planned for 5:45. The nice red haired girl called me and mentioned nothing of a time I had to be there and I came at 5:45 as originally planned and the nice red haired girl and Dr. Curtis were there. I'm extremely happy i came across this place. These people genuinely care about your pets as much as you do. My little pupper noah had a bad episode from worms and seemingly almost died. They were the only vet open at the time so that's really accommodating since i get home late in the afternoon. They took him back and figured out the problem almost immediately. I have a lot to say, so my kitty Cleo was 12 years old. She came down sick and we got really worried. We no one of the Vets there and called her and took my Cleo to her. They looked at her and spend a lot of time with her and put her on some medicine. Cleo is doing great for 3 years! She got sick again one day we called the vet I am brought her in they prescribed her some more medicine and kept her alive for a couple months. One day we knew that it was time it was a Sunday we called our friend the vet and she came in on Sunday to let us go in with her and put my Cleo down. I'm so thankful for the three years and two months more that I got to spend with my Cleo thanks to Palmetto! Thank you forever. Read Less

I took my boxer here based off of a recommendation from a friend. We saw Dr. Curtis. I was extremely impressed. She was  thorough and spent a long time with me and my dog answering all of my questions. Usually I am very uneasy "handing the leash over" to a vet to run tests, however that was not the case with Dr. Curtis and her staff. There obvious love for animals will put your mind at ease. I was also very impressed by how clean and cared for their kennel area is. This will  definitely be my new primary vet, and is well worth the drive from Clermont!! Read Less

Took my little Chihuahua in after a day of not eating and very low activity. Came to pick him up and he's in a neck brace, with pain meds, anti-inflammatory meds, and muscle relaxant. He'd had x-rays.... but the X-rays hadn't been evaluated. This cost $489. Brought him home wit "instructions " for strict kennel confinement  for two weeks... next day he's back to normal( never had neck issue, nor any spinal injury). He did, however begin to have hourly diarrhea from the meds. Today marks one week and STILL they don't have the X-rays read !. This might pass as a wrong diagnosis, BUT the same diagnosis ( incorrectly) given to my other dog a year earlier.... and that turned into a grave recommendation for Laser light treatments ( every week for a few months was recommended.) No thank you... pure quackery and money generator. Bottom line 1) way overpriced 2) missed diagnosis 3) scam for extended treatmentI would not use this business nor recommend it. Read Less

I have heard great things about you and I don't doubt it at all I just am disappointed because, after looking at your website, I saw that you accept reptiles as well so I called to see about bringing my ball python in who is showing signs of a possible RI. I was told that you only do basic services for reptiles such as trimming beaks, claws etc. To me that means you only see reptiles if they aren't sick but won't see them otherwise? Stay clear of this so called pet hospital. Just got done taking my dog there, she was attacked by another dog. This place was the only place open and during regular business hours they tried to charge me emergency fees. When I called them all they said was bring her in, so I assumed that it was like a regular appointment fee. When I questioned it and denied the estimate they still tried to charge me a good chunk of change. When I said I wasn't paying the emergency fee that is when they became rude. The receptionist was rude to me and tried to talk down to me, both the veterinarians talked down to me and was interrupting me every time I tried to talk. I was in scrubs because I go to school for something in the medical field and a 9 year Marine Corps veteran and was getting talked down to and disrespected to because they want to over charge everyone that comes in there. I don't recommend this place to anyone, they claimed they had emergencies in the back, but apparently wasn't that big of an emergency if they had time to talk down to me and disrespect me. We got to know Dr Curtis and her fabulous staff at Palmetto Animal Health Center in 2010, and have been hooked ever since. Our beloved, then 7 yrs old, Basset hound Farley had a near death caused by a miss diagnosis at another local vet office. After having spent 2 weeks at UF animal health in Gainesville with Farley, where we finally recevied a name for his ailment, we went home and had to find a local Vet to continue and oversee Farley's recovery and continued health. We found Palmetto and Dr Curtis and WOW! The Dr's and staff are very caring, compassionate, informative, patient, and not only do they provide excellent care for our animals, but even us humans. Last week I had to bring Farley in for a blood test, he is now 13 with a bad back and other "elderly" ailments which makes it challenging and risky to go for Doctor visits, and to add, the day before I had managed to fracture my foot and was therefor on crutches as we arrived for Farley's visit...well, let me tell you that the FANTASTIC technicians at Palmetto came out to my car to draw Farley's blood, so that neither him or I had to "hobble" inside the office!! This is such a fabulous vet office! They have amazing hours that are so convenient! The staff here is the most wonderful people I have ever met!!! Every doctor and staff member has been so compassionate and understanding and truly loves all their patients (animals)!!! I've never been to a vet office that honestly and truly cared about all of the animals in the way this office does! I dropped roxy off for surgery and was called with multiple updates throughout the day! I was given a tour of the surgery room where her surgery would take place and given a complete tour of the facility! The entire staff went absolutely above and beyond for us! The facility is very clean and doesn't have that "pet smell." I can't say enough good things about this office! 500000 thumbs up ladies! Keep the great work up!!! Please be careful going to this health center. I had been a long time customer in the past but after my 2 cats passed away I had not returned until recently. I adopted a healthy 2 year old rescued dog and needed treatment for hookworms and heart worms. They were unable to retrieve records from the previous vet and attempted to get me to do tests that were not needed. i insisted that we wait for those records. Dr. Gray had the office staff call me to set up an appt. for heartworm treatment consult and they would have prices ready for me. When I arrived I had to wait before I was even checked in at the front desk and then 20 minutes before seeing Dr. Gray. They did not look that busy from the waiting area but I have no idea why I had to wait so long. Dr. Gray had no prices ready for me and they wanted to recommend the fast kill method of heart worms with injections. Again they made me wait just to check out after that consult and charged me $47 with no information but a handout. They said I would have to wait for estimated prices which seems ridiculous since they had called me about making the appointment a week earlier.  I am so glad I went for a second opinion in Leesburg and found a safer,slow kill method that will be better for our dog. Disappointed with how unprofessional Dr. Gray was with our appointment and I would not recommend going to this vet. VERY EXPENSIVE AND CHARGE TOO MUCH! Read Less

P.A.H.C. have helped us out tremendously with our pets in the past, and continue to give excellent service with our little Hanzel. Who (BTW is a very picky eater) after having his baby teeth pulled, and receiving his neuter wouldn't eat, to administer his pain medication the following day. Vacationing from out of state, we took our dog in limping -  with what we thought was an infected sand burr.  We now think it may have been an ant bite. Something we don't have to deal with where we come from.  :).  I think the costs were not extravagant, about what we expected.We were very impressed on how kind and gentle the staff was. The team at Palmetto was compassionate and caring when it came to taking care of my dog Leah. She was so sick, and required an IV 3x a day the staff came in on weekends and nights to tend to her care. As far as cost goes, they are fair. Perfectly fair. Health care for animals is expensive, just like people. To those who complain about cost, get pet health insurance. There isn't a price I can put on good care for my animals. Dr Curtis is the best. Thought that I found a good vet when I moved to Mt. Dora. They seemed to be knowledgeable and were kind to my dog. However, I brought him in for eval and brought all his records for transfer. Asked if he needed any boosters or anything... they said he was good for another year or so. Well, a year later turns out he's  2 years overdue now and they won't even acknowledge that I was mis-informed and mis-managed. You go ahead and keep your pride and I'm going to find someone I can trust with my dog. Not to mention that they are wicked expensive. Nearly $300 for a neuter on a medium sized dog? Ridiculous!
