STAY AWAY!!! If you want to see your dog die, bring him to the Biscayne Animal hospital! These people have no clue what they are doing and they charge you an arm and a leg to do it. I brought in my 7 year old chihuahua who had been coughing for a day or so. This clinic had no clue what was wrong with my dog but still managed to quote me $600 to keep her over night to run some tests. Since I live only a few blocks away, I told them that I would go speak with my wife so we may decide together and I'd let them know. At that point, the vet insisted on giving my dog a shot of adrenaline (Cortisone) and this, even though they still had no clue what was wrong with her. "It will help her breath and give her energy" the vet said. I asked if it was safe, and she replied "Absolutely". Trusting her judgment and wanting the best for my dog, I agreed to the shot which they ended up charging me $60 for. Oh, I almost forgot, it was 5pm, all the staff was still there but they wanted to charge me a $250 emergency after hour fee! I argued with them a bit and they agreed to waive that fee (Still charged me $200 for the visit). In any case, the adrenaline shot was administered and I headed home, which like I said, is only a few block away. As soon as I get home, my dog starts coughing uncontrollably and suddenly dies, right there in my arms in from of my wife and my toddler! I tried mouth to mouth but it was too late, she was gone. I tried calling the vet immediately but they were closed and no one answered. After burying my dog in our back yard, I went online to research if an adrenaline shot could have such an effect on a small dog and it turns out that it absolutely can, especially if the dog is having difficulty breathing. Long story short, my dog died of a heart attack induced by the cortisone shot. The next day, I call and ask to speak to the manager. The secretary asks me what it was about and I proceeded to tell her the story. She puts me on hold for a brief moment and comes back with a "Sorry, the manager is gone for the day. If you give me your name and number, I'll have her call you first thing tomorrow". I give her my number and as you would expect, she never called me! Over the next few days, I must have called at least a dozen times to speak to the manager and I got the runaround every time, "She's not here, she's with a client, she's out to lunch". I wanted to go there in person and give them hell but I knew that if I did, things would not go well for them and probably me too. Plus, I didn't want to see that depressing waiting room and staff. I think it was a week before I was able to speak to the manager and when I finally did, all I got was a defensive and aggressive attitude. She refused to take the blame for the death of my dog and basically hung up on me. All I wanted was for them to take responsibility and admit that the shot they administered to my dog might have been the cause of death but all I got was an unapologetic insulting excuse of a manager. I am currently in talks with my attorneys and will be going after them because if anything, I'd like to prevent this from happening to anyone else. We chose to bring our dog to this vet because it was conveniently located close to our house but please, for the love of god, if your pet is sick, do your research before you choose a vet and whatever you do, DO NOT BRING YOUR PET TO THE BISCAYNE ANIMAL HOSPITAL!
