As soon as we walked in, it had a terrible smell. The place looked dirty and unprofessional. When we went into the examination room with our Suriname red tail boa, the doctor walked in he thought it was a ball python and gave us a handout for a python and said it's the same as a boa..... when examining he looked like he had no idea what he was doing. He came back in after examining and gave us a bottle for the mites. It was for mites for birds??? Not a reptile.. he insisted it'll work and went on and on trying to sell it to us. All in all the whole thing was terrible and will never be going back. Read Less

I wish there was a way to give zero stars. This hospital claims to be an exotic vet but DO NOT BRING CHINCHILLAS there. I brought my chinchilla in with an eye infection. They made me come back three times, though I'm pretty sure it was cleared up and only required one recheck, did treatments without telling me the cost first so they tried to charge me almost $200 for the recheck when they'd quoted me a MUCH lower price when I made the appointment, kept trying to give him shots he DID NOT NEED just to make more money but worst of all, told me to keep him at a temperature that I know for a fact is DEADLY to chinchillas and when I pointed that out to the so-called Dr. he told me chinchillas are warm weather animals. They absolutely ARE NOT. Take your exotic babies to Broward Avian and Exotic and stay as far away from this hospital as you can. Not only is the Dr. inept, NOT an exotic vet at all, but the clinic smells and the rooms are dirty, the vet techs are incredibly annoying talking to you in a baby voice and that's only when they're in the room at all. During my second and pointless third visit, I was the vet tech, holding my chinchilla for procedures while the tech was off doing god knows what somewhere else. Though that I was glad for since she also had ZERO understanding of chinchillas and the way she was holding him on our first visit, the only time she bothered staying in the room and doing her job, I was worried she was going to crush him. On both the second and third visit I asked them to help me clean the dried gunk from the eye medication from my baby's fur surrounding his eye and they said they would, but never did, despite me asking repeatedly. Also, making an appointment there does you no good, you can expect to wait in the waiting room for at least 45 minutes and another half an hour in the exam room before Ratnoff (I won't even call him Dr. he doesn't deserve it) bothers to come in. I will never step foot in that disgrace of a vet's office again, and I highly suggest you don't either.(I also witnessed them turn away an emergency walk in for a dog with an open wound....what kind of care giver does that?!!?!?!?!?) Horrible customer service. These people charge $51 for their price sheetRefused to give price ranges without coming in and paying an office visit fee $51. I told them everywhere else will give me a price range or starting price for urine test, blood panel, CT and biopsy and his response was ok with their phone number. I didn't ask him for a treatment plan without even examining my cat. I asked him for starting prices.Shame on vets who prey on desperate worried pet owners.Response: Once again, I requested the STARTING prices for those tests. I did not ask for a finalized treatment plan exact costs for a pet you haven't even examined before. Everywhere else I went to provided prices over the phone. West boca veterinary is great but very expensive. Today I took my cat to Boca Vet Clinic on Powerline. I requested a urine test and blood test. They gave me their starting prices over the phone and after discussing the symptoms we determined the starting tests are a good place to start. I paid $130 out the door which included the urine test, basic blood test and exam. I'll have the results Tuesday morning at the latest because it's Sunday. They also sell holistic pet food. If you would like to try a vet office that will answer your questions and give you basic pricing up front and not try to put your pet though hundreds of dollars of tests call Boca Vet Clinic on Powerline. This is the worst place to ever take your pet! I called before coming and as soon and me and my boyfriend were at the door with a sick kitten we found, Dr. Ratnoff gave us a weird look and acted like he almost didn’t want to open the door. The kitten was breathing hard and clearly it was an emergency situation. As soon as he let us in, instead of attending to the kitten right away, he had us sit in the room. He handed me the form and literally walked away for 10-15 minutes. When he came back my boyfriend noticed something: he put a gun in his right pocket which was not there when he first opened the door to us. After he takes my form, he finally decides to attend to the kitten. The kitten proceeds to bite him very hard as it must have been going into shock. Dr. Ratnoff proceeds to run with the kitten to put it on life support after he says “this cat is dying”. After about 20 minutes, he comes back and says “this is a very serious situation, this cat bit me and it seems like this cat might have rabies. I’m afraid for my life” I said well I’m sorry but we didn’t know what’s wrong with the cat, we only had it for a day and a few hours and noticed it kept breathing hard and meowing recently and decided to bring it in. He again walked away, comes back with a book and reads to us a section on rabies and again says “this is a serious situation, this cat probably has rabies and I’m afraid for my life. I said ok but it’s not like we knew the cat had rabies and we came in and threw the cat at you. That’s why we’re here! And he proceeds to get angry because I said that and says I’m going to call the police on you guys! I said you’re going to call the police on us for doing nothing. Also he did not handle the cat with gloves and waited too long to even help the cat, because he was too busy racial profiling us and thinking we were going to rob him, since he went to go get his gun. So after he says he’s going to call the police on us, he then says look this cat needs to be put down and you guys can’t fight me on this. I said were not fighting, just do what you have to do. He goes “oh I am because I’m not risking my life and this cat has to be put down and I have to cut off the head to send to animal control for them to determine whether it has rabies or not”. I say ok whatever do what you have to do. He walks out again, then comes back and tells us to come look at the cat. So we come to look at the cat on oxygen and he’s like this cat is clearly unconscious and not going to make it and it’s not breathing. He then takes the kitten off the oxygen to show us that it’s not breathing and shakes it around! I was clearly outraged and I said I can’t watch this and walk away back to the room. Then my boyfriend comes back to the room and Dr. Ratnoff comes back and attempts to apologize. I just broke down in tears and he asked me to pay the bill and I paid. Of course he ripped me off by charging me $75 for oxygen and charging for euthanization. As we were walking out he carelessly says next time don’t pick up animals off the street and that he has kittens here to adopt if I wanted a kitten. I said no thanks and left. Again the worst experience of my life. This doctor was the worst vet I’ve ever delt with in my life. We were trying to help a sick cat and we literally got threatened with a law suit, the police, and the poor cat was treated horribly. Oh yeah and don’t forget the racial profiling. This Dr. Ratnoff is a horrible excuse for a doctor and his license should be taken away! Read Less

I won't be going back. They did something very shady when I went to board my 2 dogs this weekend. When I called earlier in the week to schedule the boarding they told me they needed bordatella shots. They told me how much everything was going to cost and I budgeted accordingly. On Friday evening I called to confirm the appointment and they tacked on another 45.00 for each dog for an office visit because of the shots they were giving them. I couldn't cancel my plans and had to borrow the money from someone else. When I asked why they didn't tell me this a few days earlier they were very short and snotty with me and said I could take them somewhere else. I really couldn't because I was leaving in the morning and was stuck. They knew what they were doing and did it on purpose. Read Less

I overlooked the horrible condition of this place initially thinking they weren't worried about appearances because they knew they provided great service. WRONG!!!! I should have walked out the minute I first saw the place. The vet/owner is a greedy man overcharging & adding unnecessary things, while not even really taking good care of your pet. I'll have to live with the fact that I wasted 2 weeks of what was left of my dog's life going to this place & wondering if I had taken him elsewhere instead, I might still have him. First of all, thank you Dr. Ratnoff and your staff for helping my beloved Bow.My Yorkie ingested rat poison (tomcat) and luckily I was home to notice and take him to the vet right away. I recently relocated to south Florida and have not established a vet for Bow. Poison control suggested this clinc. Fortunately for us the clinc was opened and they were able to treat my sweet boy. I was worried about the course of treatment and the chances of Bow surviving along with financial responsibility. Dr Ratnoff was very understanding to my concerns. He handled the matter in a caring, informative, and resourceful manner. I was so scared I was going to lose Bow and stay stuck with a bill at the end. Dr Ratnoff suggested credit care which helped ease the financial worry. As for as the treatment he walked me through the lab tests and reassured me of the best course of action for Bow.  The Dr even called me in the middle of the night to give me an update of Bows condition. I highly recommend this establishment. Genuine help and great bedside manners are hard to find in the business world. I'm happy to report Bow's treatment is currently working and am getting ready to reunite with him. Bow has not had any seizures or convulsions. We are speculating he only had one tablet and because the treatment was provided early enough his chances of survival are great.Xoxo to all who helped!! Read Less

I waited in the room for almost an hour before seeing the doctor EVEN when. I called in advance for an appointment. But I understood the circumstances...but they didn't seem too sympathetic.....I decide to make another appointment with them for his second round figuring they did his first....day comes for his shots and I am sitting in the waiting room for a long time after the scheduled appointment. What's the purpose of an appointment if you can't keep your word. Then when I try to ask the receptionists about an ETA she says "sorry webe had 3 emergencies today" ..... they tell that lie every time to everyone. The person that referred me to this place to begin with had mentioned that he waited past appointment time for a very long time only to hear the excuse "sorry - we had an emergency".......plus the staff isn't to friendly. I would stay away.Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

I first met Dr. Ratnoff during an emergency situation with one of my dogs. It was late after most animal hospitals were closed and my Baby Blaze wouldn't put one of his front paws down. Not only did Dr. Ratnoff make himself available to me and my family, he did it with a smile on his face. He was amazing with Blaze and reassuring to my husband and myself. I have since brought my other dog Bunny there for a check up and was more than satisfied. I wouldn't dream of taking my babies anywhere else. They deserve only the best!!!! Read Less

Dr. Ratinoff and his team Provider my cat with excellent care for several years. I made the difficult decision to put my cat down a couple weeks back, and the team there could not have been more supportive. I wanted t do it there since my cat was so comfortable in the office. And My cat would not hesitate to let me know if he didn't like someplace! He liked it there. I'm not going to say the office is the most modern or in the nicest building, but if you're looking for people who honestly care about your pet and will provide excellent council and advise, Oakland Park Animal Hospital is the place to be. I moved to this area a little over a year ago. I found them through the internet due to me having a sun conure. I lost my sun conure before any one at Oakland animal hospital could even see her. I have two dogs and I trust the staff and Dr. Ratnoff. They have been great. Yeah you may have to wait but I do not mind considering they take their time to talk to you about your pet as well as taking care of your animals. I have been to vets where I use to live they take the animals back and you don't even get to see them examining them. I don't like that because how do I know they just didn't guess and not check my animal out. I love it there and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a vet who is kind and caring. That is the staff and Dr. Ratnoff are a great and knowledgeable bunch. Read Less

HORRIBLE!!! I recently got a puppy and made an appointment with Oakland Park Animal Hospital to get his first round of shots. My first experience there should've been a red flag to me.
