Most affordable vet in the area. Just a note to people who don't visit frequently.  Surgery (dental/neuters/spay, etc) drop offs begin at 8AM.  All other appointments begin at 9AM. Everyone signs the same sign in sheet.  If you only need to see a vet tech and not a vet, you get called sooner.  I've seen people get angry that others arriving after them get called in first. These are the reasons.  People should be honest when signing in as well. Cars sometimes begin lining up an hour before opening. When the woman brings out the sign in sheet, it's not who rushes her to grab the clipboard, it's the person who arrived first, second, third, etc. Some people even try to sign in "friends" who aren't even there but show up later.  You WILL get called out for this stuff. Yes, there are people who believe they are entitled to cut the line.  Emergencies do, yes and rightly so, but not typical appointments like vaccinations, ear infections, etc.  One vet does surgeries, the other does office visits therefore the wait can be long. The office women always ask if you are okay with seeing a vet tech if it's for simple procedures thus shortening your wait.  Do your pet a favor and bring water and a bowl unless they are privvy to drinking out of a hose. Seating inside is very minimal and there's only so much bench space under the awning.  They do have a loud speaker for the parking lot but you would have to have your vehicle's window down in order to hear your name being called.  If you have the time to wait, normally up to 3 to 3 1/2 hours if arriving at 8AM or later, this place can save you a bundle of money....and no office fee is charged if you are there for yearly vaccinations.  I've been happy with their vet care for several years now.  Minus one star for the wait and lack of seating space and parking. I brought my blue Pitt in after he was attacked by another dog. He had his muzzle ripped open and the dog broke some of his teeth off, we had to wait over the weekend so he was septic by the time we could get him there. They had to put him under anesthesia and extracted the broken teeth and stitched him up and gave us meds. All of that for $230, I don’t see how they made any money off of this but I am forever grateful to the wonderful people who work up there, they truly do it for the love of animals. We have been with them for 13 years. Check ups, shots, babies put down. We have recommended so many people. HOWEVER, we just took our puppy there to be fixed and being pressed for time, they rushed through the procedure. Within 36 hours, all sutures were out and emergency surgery was needed. The is the place to go for affordable pet care with a super coupon labeled "your time".  Bring a kindle or book with you for entertainment, cell phone games may kill your battery before being seen. Unfortunately, the wait has just gotten a bit worst so make sure you plan ahead or use the time saving tips below. The reason why the wait is a bit longer now is due to 1 of the 3 normal vets here have left the company (Dr. Bushey) and has moved to Seattle, Wa. The other vet is normally in surgery throughout the morning, which leaves essentially one for some/most of the day.The popular strategy to reduce your wait time is to come just prior to 12 and get your name on the waiting list, afterwards return at 2 pm when they reopen after lunch. Otherwise, swing by before the roosters wake up and camp out on the bench (not car) like your waiting for the next iPhone. After people start arriving, be sure to line up in front of the door, some ppl don't give you credit for being there before them, and they will be quick to sign the check-in sheet before you (lesson learned). After I checked out, I asked if they plan to replace Dr Bushey soon. They said for now, no. I hope that means they just haven't found a replacement yet and are still "actively looking" for another quality vet to meet the demands of their fan base customers (2 legged and 4 legged). When my Jack Russell fell from the car and broke her leg, I drove 18hrs back to Florida for her to been seen here. The compassion and professionalism is top notch!! I drove all the way back from Virginia for her continued care. I'll never take my babies anywhere else!!! From simple check ups to emergency care- they are THE BEST!!! I take all my pets to Maverick and have for the past 7 years now. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. The doctors and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. This Vet actually cares for your animals and has a very decent walk-in price. Just be prepared to wait. Go in very early because they will stop taking people before their close time at lunch. Filthy exam rooms. Saw doors to surgery on pets wide open to any sick animals or persons. No face masks no sterile gloves being used in surgeries, and others have witnessed the same things I saw and experienced because the door is open. Lack of full, or proper exams, which you are charged for an exam. Lots of people "love" Maverick because of low cost, but they are taking shortcuts on your pet's well being, and there are negative consequences to such. For me, it was seeing my beloved animals suffer unnecessarily. No cultures being done before prescribing antibiotics, and saying, "Come back in a week or two or three, if you don't see any improvement," - that is not cost effective, is more risky to my pet's health and sometimes causing severe problems, and even death to animals. Think what kind of services you would want for your children, your family member. If you really love your animal, insist on the proper exams, clean rooms, and no excuses for not examining animals as they are taught in veterinary school anywhere in this country. They charge different people different prices. Go figure. When you've been around long enough, and get over the wait and see attitude and really care about your loved one's well being, then decide why you might want to go somewhere else, better equipped, cleaner, and willing to do a proper exam each time. No shortcuts. I will never take animals there, nor recommend them to anyone. They should be shut down and forced to clean up their act! Other vets have heard bad things about Maverick too, so it is not just me. Others feel the same as I do. They just have a lot of people who stick together, and/or don't really know what goes into proper medical care for pets, (or people), and act like they are happy if their pet does not die or have complications. I don't believe in psychic exams. It does not cost much to get the best vet care at someplace that does what is due to us and our loved ones. Your choice. I have brought my dogs here for at least 15 years. The vet is amazing and the services affordable. I have referred friends/family for quite some time. However, lately the staff has been beyond rude. The vet techs and the women at the front desk have zero patience and completely lack hospitality. They are overwhelmed and do a poor job of hiding it. After extreme difficulty obtaining prescriptions and foods that the vet recommended, we will not be returning and we will not be referring. I would rather spend more money somewhere else if it means dealing with friendlier people who make our lives easier. I hope this opens the eyes of the staff at Maverick Animal Clinic before you lose a substantial amount of customers. You work in healthcare! A bad attitude will only get you so far. Read Less

I've been taking my chihuahua here since she was a puppy. The last visit is the worst I've had before. I took her there for her annual check up and shots. The vet tells me that she needs her food to be cut back because she's fat and you should be able to feel her ribs. My dog is very active and eats very little as it is. Each time I tried to explain that, I was cut off from speaking. Then I ask them to give her a full check up and the vet said she did, even though my dog was with me  the whole time. The following day, she was sore, I thought it was just from shots. But when I took her outside, there were words in her feces. This never should have happened, I'm on vacation now with my dog and was unable to get through to the animal clinic. I will NEVER take any of my pets here again. She should not have had worms in her feces after leaving the vet. Laziness. Go ahead and skip the lines and just pay a little extra somewhere else to make sure your dog is actually okay at their annual check up. 2 stars because the prices are lower. Read Less

Lines are long but very fair. Cheap and does a great job. My puppy had to get an operation done on her leg for a broken bone and they did it no problem, came the next day to pick her up. We had a house Vet come and check on her and they let us know that Mavericks did great on the operation and that she is healing well. I'll continue to go here from now on. Read Less

Maverick Animal Clinic is hands down the best veterinarian in the Middleburg Orange Park Area. They treat you fairly in every aspect you can think of; animal treatment, price, decision making. I definitely recommend Dr. Jenkins or Dr. Bushey for Dog or Cat as they're more professional and honest than many other vets, especially emergency vets. I want to praise these veterinarians and their staff for the comforting, dignified and loving way they assisted me when it came to laying my beautiful Will-Will (my 16 yr old ShihTzu) down when he was called home to the Rainbow Bridge. This review was really hard to write and although I have put this off for so long I have decided to go with it. Mavericks is a great clinic. The prices are low and the staff is great especially doctor Jenkins, she's not only passionate at what she does but she also knows her stuff. Rumor has it that she might be retiring soon which is a bummer. Even though the prices are great you should prepare to wait. I'm not kidding. Here's some of the details... I took my little guy here for surgery on my birthday to remove a tumor hoping it was benign. Turns out it wasn't and even though he started getting better right after the surgery he began his stages of decline soon after. It wasn't long after that we had to make an extremely difficult decision to put him down because it was selfish for us to put him through this and he took his last breathe here. His ashes are now sitting in my living room with his favorite toy next to it. I don't really want to get into details about what happened on his last day but the staff was great through this whole process and did the best they could to comfort my wife and myself. I have been taking my 4-legged ones to Mavericks ever since they opened. Though one has to wait as it is first come -first serve... it is no problem. Get to chat with the other fur baby parents to pass the time. The staff is wonderful and are extremely busy. So in case one has issues with that then maybe they should sit in the chair on the other side of the counter once . It will set you straight :) The Dr's whom I have seen (all of them) are lovers of the Animal Kingdom and treat the 4-legged ones with much respect and patience. More than some humans I know. I always refer others to them and will continue on in getting care for my fur family. I have had had some put down and they are exceptionally very caring of you and the one going to Rainbow Bridge. Jacob, my rescue was a year ago and they have brought him back from the brink of death as when getting him he was inundated with heart-worms and other maladies from being chained to a tree with no where to go... he weighed about 45 lbs and is now healthy and thriving. My cat had a very common cancer that cats get in the pads of their paws. If caught early, they can remove the back pad and the cat will recover. At the time I didn't know about this type of cancer. I took her to see this vet six times in one year and they looked at her paw and told me to keep her on soft ground and make sure she doesn't itch it. I followed their directions perfectly. I took her back many times and they blew me off telling me that it just needs to not be irritated. A found a lump in her neck a year later and decided I would take her to another vet. They immediately biopsied it and found it was cancer. Had the maverick vets actually took their time and listened to me instead of blowing me off, they could have saved my cats life. I will tell everyone I know never to take their animals to these irresponsible, uneducated vets. Read Less

This is the best animal hospital I have ever been to. Dr. Jenkins and Dr. Sleeper as well as Karen, Ashley , Sara and all their staff are awesome! I have been going there for at least 20 years. There are times when you have to wait awhile, but to me it's worth the wait to have these awesome people take care of my pets. They aren't like most vet hospitals , they don't charge high prices for great care, because they truly care about the animal and treat it as their own! Five stars isn't enough to rate this awesome hospital! I love them all and they have been there for me from the birth of my puppy till the death and I can't say enough great things about them!! Mavericks prices are reasonable and their vets, techs, and office staff are awesome.  My dogs really love Dr. Sleeper and vet tech Chris. They also see more than just dogs and cats. They will take care of your pet rats, mice, rabbits and ferrets.  They may see other animals as well these are just what I am aware of. The wait may be long but the clientele always seems to be interested in everyone else's pets so the time goes by quickly. You could end up with some new friends! Read Less

Maverick Animal Clinic staff was especially kind to our newest kitten that was rescued from an outside litter. Our kitten had a respiratory problem, worms and was seriously underweight (having been abandoned by its Feral Mother.) They took the time to explain the tests, the costs and where most gentle with our new love. I suggest getting there earlier because it is first come, first served (closed from 12 to 2 for lunch). Also, prices are very reasonable (and they do not try to sell you services and medicine you don?t need. They even sold us a half bottle of antibiotic that they prepared at one half the costs. ) Pros: Honest, caring doctors and best prices around.
