I have a really excellent vet, but she lives far away from me, and I was looking for something closer for urgent care, non emergency treatment, or weekend treatment. MY dog had a UTI. Banfields is the Jiffy Lube of vets, as far as I can tell. I will not be going back there again. They are expensive, unless you have a coupon, and they try to upsell when ever they can . I had an appointment for a potential UTI for my dog. I sat in the little room for half an hour before I poked my head out and asked if anyone would be coming in. They told me a dog was having its nails cut, so that is where all the doctors were. Does it really take the entire staff and all of the vets to cut a dog's nails for 30 minutes? I heard people outside in the hall discussing their vacation schedule. I don't have a problem with you doing your business, but why did I make an appointment for one time, and had to sit there for 30 minutes?I do have to say that the people who worked at the counter couldn't have been nicer. Everyone who checked me in and out gave great customer service. That is the only reason they didn't get one star.My dog needed a urine sample, so I took him to pee myself, in the little pan they gave me, and collected his urine myself, and they charged me $6 to collect my own dog's pee. Not for the tests, which is reasonable--they charged me a "collection fee" for collecting it myself on top of the fee they charged for testing it. I guess the plastic pan he peed in cost $6. I don't mind paying for the test, which I did, but why did they charge me to collect his pee myself? Then, ala Jiffy Lube, The tech, without a vet even seeing my dog, offered me an additional test for his urine that cost $150! Before even looking at my dog, they right out of the gate tried to offer me this expensive test AND prescription dog food, which is nothing but corn and wasted money. I know better than to get sucked into the prescription dog food racket,I sat for another half an hour before the vet came in. The vet did not speak very good English. He was nice enough, but not exactly the type of vet that makes you think " Oh, I am so glad my pet is in this person's care." Again, very Jiffy Lube. I did not understand him at all. The tech had to translate everything he said, and it was obvious that she was used to having to do this. I realize it is difficult to speak a second language, but when you are talking to people about medical problems for themselves or their pets, sometimes, those nuances matter. How can I consent to treatment for myself or my pet if I don't understand what the doctor is saying? And he didn't seem to understand me either. The tech had to explain what I was saying to him as well as explaining what he was saying to me. He asked a couple of times for tests that we already took, which did not fill me with confidence. I realize that is not his fault, but again, medical care is not the time to be politically correct. This is what really made me mad. They offered an antibiotic for $60. I found it online for $30 at pharmacies everywhere else. This isn't some miracle drug. It's something a human could get at publix for really cheap. They wanted to charge $40 for the visit, which is fair, but I had a coupon. I paid $6 for the pee "collection" and more for the urine test. They tried to sell me another comprehensive test for $150. I declined. Here is the kicker!!! They wanted to charge me $30 more for an antibiotic than I could buy literally anywhere else. i filled my scrip at 1800 PETMEDS, but it took three phone calls back and forth before the scrip got filled.1800 PETMEDS at no extra charge sent it next day because the vet did not return the fax until I called them the next day to inquire about it. My dog has a urinary infection, and need his meds ASAP. But, I don't need to pay twice the price for it. I can't afford that. Are you so desperate to prey upon the love people have for their pets that you will squeeze $200 extra out of them, if you can? That is why I say it's the Jiffy Lube of vets. If I didn't have my wits about me, this visit would have cost me about $300, for a UTI. I ended up saving about $200, only because I said no and had a coupon. Read Less
