If you hate both your pet and money entirely, this is the place for you! My fiance and I made an appointment over a month in advance due to weight concerns we had for our dog (Princess). We told the employee this when we made the appointment, then had our regular vet fax over Princess's medical records (we even got a confirmation call saying they sent them).
The day of the appointment, we arrive on time, and wait 45 minutes to be seen. In other words, there was literally no point to having made an appointment, since that's the average wait for a walk in--but what else do people have to do than spend their day in at the vet's?
The fateful moment came when our name was called. We were seen by Dr. Vasquez Calderin, who started with "so we're just interested in getting her up to date on vaccinations, right?", clearly aware of the situation. After we told her the reason we were there and that we verified that her vaccinations were sent, she had no idea where they were or how to locate them.
Dr. Vasquez and her assistant proceeded to take a blood and urine sample in order to run two tests (a general health evaluation and a hyperthyroid exam). After the first part of the general exam results came out normal, we made a comment on how diabetes could essentially be ruled out since glucose levels were normal (not indicating that we didn't want to do the urine test).
Apparently not. Her very astute assistant told us that certain conditions (like diabetes) manifest very differently in animals (vs. humans) and that glucose levels were therefore irrelevant... Literally all medical wisdom says otherwise.
Dr. Vasquez then recommended a $3+/pound dog food: Hill's Prescription Diet Metabolic. When we tried to give her information on Princess's diet (first Wellness Core Reduced Fat, then Blue Buffalo Wilderness Healthy Weight) in order to ask what was different, how they compared, etc., not only did Dr. Vasquez not know what either was (which is understandable enough), but she made NO effort to find out. Instead, she replied with, "Oh, they're bad, I wouldn't recommend them. You never know with commercial dog foods, and we just know more about these other ones." Sure enough, SEVERAL veterinary research journals say the food we had her on was better (due to higher protein, etc.), if not at least as good.
We were charged $370 (WAY overpriced compared to other clinics) and told we would be called in 2-3 days with the hyperthyroidism results. Six days later, we called, waited on hold for 20+ minutes, and were told that it would be another 3 days till Dr. Vasquez was in--because somehow, the results were still showing as "pending" on his end, and no other veterinarian present could interpret the results.
You can count on one, thing, though: your pet (or you, for the matter) will die either waiting on test results, or due to faulty medical advice. WORST experience we have ever had and a huge waste of time. This office, and Banfield in general, should be ashamed. Read Less
