First time I did business with them was for an unfortunate event of putting our pet down. All the nurses were real nice and attentive and the doctor was really great. He went into clear details of what was going to happen and how. After all was done he suddenly recited a prayer for my just deceased dog ,I did not expect that. Awesome experience with a great pet care association like Dr. Bowen, Dr. LIRO and their care staff. Our puppy, Buddy Goodman was literally on his death bed. But GOD, who's always in control used the Dr's. EXPERIENCE - PRAYERS to bring Buddy's, liver & blood condition back to normal functioning. Edgewater Animal Hospital has been in business under Dr. Gary Bowen since the early 1980's. I have never met a more CARING vet. He takes his time with each client to explain what's wrong w/ the pet, and treats everyone like a friend. Dr. Bowen loves his job. He has built relationships with the owners who have brought their pet to him from the first day they got him or her until the day Dr. Bowen has had to put them to sleep; after getting to know this family over the pets entire lifespan. I have worked here for going in 3 years and i have LOVED coming in to work 99% of the time...(everyone can have an off day..😊) I love hearing the stories from owners who have come to see him with each pet, they speak so lovingly & with true compassion for him. As a part of his staff, i can tell you some days can be a bit hectic., but on a whole, we function like a family!! I hope to be here for many years to come!!! Read Less

All other reviews are done by present employees. Prices are outrageous. I loved the staff, until last week. This lady Arlene has NO idea how to speak to someone professionally. She was very rude with me. I've been coming here for 2yrs........and that's 2yrs I can't get back. Today is THE LAST time I will be going to this place. Edgewater animal hospital is hands-down the best veterinarian clinic I have ever been to. From the front desk staff to the vet technicians to the veterinarian Dr. Bowen himself everything was outstanding! The whole staff really took the time to help me when I found a stray baby kitten with a broken leg. Even though this clinic is an hour away from where I live I will keep going back to this clinic just because of how big their hearts are here. So if you are looking for a new vet I highly recommend this establishment thank you so much Edgewater Animal Hospital team you meant the world to this stray baby kitten!! Read Less

The staff is so nice. They really seem to care about the animals and approach them as if they were their own. I agree with the other review. They are very thorough.I brought my cat in for what another vet had diagnosed as a food allergy. The tech suggested we do a stool sample and discovered that he had hookworms! Never would have thought that since he has been an indoor cat for the last nine months. I wish I had brought him in sooner. That being said, they were able to give him a shot to hopefully cure it and they also gave me hypoallergenic cat food to experiment with his diet and cure the skin problem.If I could give them more stars I would. The vet techs at this place are great very compassionate and caring. The others.... I brought a 6 month old puppy to this office after just moving into town to do a routine checkup and receive heartworm preventative, flea preventive and a rabies vaccine. The next day after visiting the vet my dog became very lethargic, working with dogs in the past I thought it was just a little bug and she would be fine in a few days. 2 days after I visited Edgewater animal hospital I returned to them because my little lady was still not feeling up to par and it had progressed into vomiting. I was told she probably had a bug and they would give her a B12 shot and also some anti vomiting shot and send me home with some medication. Rapidly after I left there office she took a turn for the worse. I returned to the vets office the following morning as soon as they opened stating it had to be a misdiagnose the day before... sure enough it was Parvo. I was told I had to options pay them $500 for them to run ivs until 12pm and than transport her to a 24 hour vet or put her to sleep the chance of her surviving was only 40% at this point. I advised them I would need to have my husband with me to make a decision like that and was told I couldn't leave without leaving a Credit card. I obliged thinking they needed the card just to make sure I returned to take care of my puppy.  We returned soon after to let them know we had found a vet that would be open 24 hours and would administer all the medications and ivs she needed in one spot so we didn't have to keep stressing her out by moving her from vet office to vet office. We were told we were not able to pick up our dog until we paid $160....after we had already paid $500 for a misdiagnoses. I understand that everything comes with a price but the vet was cold after we left the vet called to tell us that our dog had a slim to none chance to live why was it 40% at the beginning of the diagnosis? Than when we go somewhere else who can treat her fully for the entire weekend its a slim to none chance?? Our little girl is currently fighting for her life at a vet who truly cares for the pets they take care of. Save yourself the heartache! I wish I would of. Read Less

I have been seeing the vet(s) at this place (on and off- I've gone to SPCA for some routine check ups here and there for my animals) for 20+ years. Honestly, their prices are reasonable. But what keeps me coming is the genuine care and consideration the vets, and all of the lovely techs they have there. I had to euthanize my rat today, and although they do not normally do such small animals, they were willing to work with me. The kindness, time and attention they gave to me today, as I let my rat go was amazing. And aside from today- even when I've brought my other dogs in for various issues, sometimes the vet techs just come in to say 'hi' to my dogs, because they remember them and love them- and as a pet owner, that means SO much! Love the care that is shown by all of the staff at Edgewater. Everyone is friendly and readily answer any questions during or after the examination. Prices are reasonable and appointments are easy to make and you don't have to wait very long when you arrive for the tech to take the animals back and begin the process. Have received good information on how to best take care of the doggies. Read Less

When I moved to the Maitland Area I took my cats to this vet and it was the best experience ever. I refuse to see another vet. I've moved to the East Orlando area, and it is still worth the drive to go to Edge Water Animal Hospital, because the doctors remember you, really care for your animal, and it is still more affordable even with the longer drive. If you want a god vet that cares for animals and their health you must go here. Read Less

Dr. Bowen and his staff are the best. Our dogs are family members and are treated as such at Edgewater Animal Hospital. We have been seeing Dr. Bowen for well over twenty years. We also find while chatting with other folks in the waiting area that many others have been bringing their pets to see Dr. Bowen for many years. A very unusual feature of the office is that ninety percent of the staff has been there more than a couple years. Very low staff turnover, we see the same smiling faces every time. We presume that Dr. Bowen treats his staff better than most. We've also noticed that the one new hire that didn't seem to have a knack for dealing with animals was gone quickly. The staff is happy and cheerful, even when incredibly busy. Our baby ( a sixty pound boxer mixed breed rescue ) absolutely LOVES Dr. Bowen and the EAH staff. Read Less

Dr. Bowen in the folks at Edgewater Animal Hospital have been caring for my animals for more than 25 years and I would never dream of going anywhere else. Like any vet's office sometimes things can get a little hectic there but it's only because there are so many people like me who would never consider letting anyone else care for their loved animals. Beyond the terrific care that all my animals have received the biggest impression that I have gotten from them is the amazing level of compassion that they show not only to the animals but to us people as well. I recently moved down from MA and needed to find a vet for my dog. Before my scheduled visit arrived my dog had a terrible allergic reaction and she was at the emergency vet. When Edgewater animal hospital opened in the morning they called to find out if she was okay and we followed up with her medical care there. Both of the vets that she saw were fantastic- especially the vet tech who treated Riley as if she was her own. They were very available and concerned with her recovery. The whole staff was amazing and stayed late to accommodate us when Riley needed fluids. They continue to call and check up on her and I can't say enough good things about Dr. Giltner- she is the best. So if you're looking for a vet that won't perform unnecessary testing and really has your pets best interests in mind- Edgewater is the place to go. I anticipated her numerous days of care and observation to really break the bank and was pleasantly surprised when the bill came. I'm so glad I found this place! Read Less

I will never return to this vet. Dr. Bowen suggested that I put my 8 week old kitten to sleep because I only had "just gotten her and didn't have an attachment to her" because she had upper respiratory infection BUT he did not say that, he told me that her intestines were smashed into her chest so we would have to do tons of x-rays to find out. After the x-rays showed she didn't have 'intestines in her chest' and it was an upper respiratory infection like any normal person would recognize if you've seen it ESPECIALLY a vet would know this right away. I know I was robbed because I didn't know at the time and he very well knew that. He was nasty with me, had a bad attitude and that was my first and last visit to that place. I tell everyone I know to never go there. This happened in 2000 and I will never forget the way I was treated. Btw, I still have my cat. Good thing I didn't listen to him and put her to sleep.
