If Dr. Rubenstein was still there, it'd be a 5 star. I sure miss him and his genuine care for animals without looking at dollar signs. I kinda think this place has fell down a few spots since he left. This place isn't bad, just doesn't make me excited. Situation: My cat got ahold of a pretty big frog some how, he even was kind enough to bring it inside the house to show me. After that, he got pretty sick. Stopped eating, hid in the closet, slept, got a fever, ect...we took him to TOAH and they had to hospitalize him for a few days. To this day I still think it was because of the frog (poisonus, maybe?) but they said that he has Feline Herpes, so stress triggers an "outbreak" resulting in him being ill. Everyday before and after work I went to see him, and they had him in a cage over a dog that barked whenever someone walked in, I think because his illness was stress induced he should have been placed in a quiet area. But what really bothered me is this cats paw was the size of a Great Dane. It was so swollen and puffy from the IV liquid going into the paw. My mom is a nurse and said it shouldn't be like that but the tech said it was fine. The next day it was still super puffy, but he was being much more attentitive and responding to us when we came to see him. They wanted to keep him to monitor for a day or two longer, but we decided we would monitor him ourselves and made them take the IV out, that still had his paw 4x its normal size. The tech also kept trying to urge us to do a feline Lukemia test, the cat is indoors only (goes into the patio area but that's as outdoors as he gets) and was tested prior and was tested negative. She said that sometimes testing negative is not accurate, the only way to be 100% sure is to do a bone marrow test of some sort. Not Cheap. But she was pretty insistant on doing it, relunctantly we allowed it, and of course it came out negative. $400 for a test we knew would come back negative. Dr. R would never have done that unless he felt it was absolutely nessesary. Anyway, we took my cat home, everyday he kept getting better and within a 5 days he was back to his normal self. They do call to check in to see how he's doing, so that's always a nice touch. Knock on wood, but he has pretty much been fine ever since, as well as my other cats, so I have not came back to this vet since, I probably would if necessary, but would come with my guard up.
