I just want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the crew at Animal Emergency & Urgent care. My elderly feline had been failing and a week ago, he let us know it was time. I gave them a call and made sure they were open. They were, they're 24/7. We arrived and were taken back to a room and seen by a tech who took our Kit'en's vitals and got the Doctor to see us. I'm not going to write out the long story here, suffice to say it was our feline's time and the clinic's staff was sweet and caring and very compassionate towards our needs.  When the time came, they gave us all the time we needed to say good by before the end came. We will be forever thankful for their care. Read Less

I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars based off of my experience. After a 12 plus hour shift, I came home around midnight to find my cat sick and not acting normal. With it being after midnight I called my vets emergency line and they suggested I come here. I drove the 35 minutes and showed up teary eyed and stressed over my sick fur baby. I walked in and the super sweet vet tech approached me right away and she led me to an exam room. I am VERY thankful for her that night. She stayed in the exam room with me for probably thirty minutes while we waited for the vet to finish up with another patient. The vet tech talked to me and calmed my nerves, and gave my fur baby lots of attention and tried to comfort her while she was so sick.  Once the vet came in he was very professional and explained everything to me.  A plus side to my experience was that I expected to have to pay an arm and leg to make my fur baby better, but was astonished when I received the bill and it was no where near as high as I thought it would be. I am very thankful for this place and I would suggest them to anyone! Read Less

I would give this vet practice a resounding ZERO. They are unethical and will NOT do what's in the best interest of your pet's health. I brought my cat in for a urinary block and Dr. Melissa Walk from Harborside Animal Hospital was working there - this was my usual vet, so I thought I could trust her! BIG MISTAKE. I wasn't aware of any other local animal hospitals open but if I had I would have NEVER had him treated there. I had no idea what was involved. They catheterized my cat for $1,200. THEN decided to tell me that I had to pick him up at 6 AM (because they were closing), take him to Dr. Walk, where she charged me another $200 to watch him for the day. I had to transport my cat with a catheter in - this was painful and horrible for the animal. It ended up being removed again because I had to transport him AGAIN to ANOTHER facility because Dr. Walk was incapable of caring for my pet (but she didn't mind charging me). Had I known, I would have gone directly to BluePearl, which is a 24-hr facility. The whole situation was awful, but Animal Emergency/Dr. Walk made it worse and costed me an extra $1,400 for NOTHING but pain and suffering to my pet. Dr. Walk and Animal Emergency did not care in the least what they had done. When I tried contacting them, the ignored me. Needless to say, I will never go back to them or Dr. Walk again. And neither should you. Read Less

I would of given a Zero star review if possible. WORST VET EVER. Took my dog in after hours for an ear infection and hematoma. They told me that they were unable to do anything for hematoma, given the reasons, I understood why. The ear infection on the other hand was another story. They wanted to do blood work to figure out what was wrong for 160+ dollars. Give him one day medication to the tune of roughly 600.00 dollars at total bill. ALL BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIGURE OUT A YEAST INFECTION for his ear AND A HEAT RASH! ESPECIALLY AFTER I TOLD THEM HE MAY HAVE OVER HEATED!! They were looking for money and only money!! Took him to another Vet. Dog was looked at for 20 minutes with out blood work. Was given 2 weeks of medication for his ear free of charge and scheduled in for surgery. Total cost less than the total cost of the 600.00 dollars these jokers were charging. Read Less

I'm glad that most people had a 5 star experience here, however I did not. I had to bring my Bulldog here after he suffered a major seizure from his cancer at around 2am. I brought him here with my family to say goodbye to him, as he was in obvious pain and delusional. From the time we arrived I could tell this place wasn't going to be the best, but unfortunately we had no other option at 2am. A few things that bothered me the most:The vet and tech were both terrible at bedside manner. The vet acted like she just graduated vet school. She fumbled with needles, missed a vein, had to change needle sizes at the last second and caused my baby more undue pain. The vet forced us (my dad and I) to pick him up (85 lbs) and place him on a table, so she could stand while working on him. During this, she decided to pull his back legs towards the table, causing him to whine quite a bit. The two injections she gave him, to help anesthetize him, both made him jump and yelp. He never does this unless he's in terrible pain. She made us muzzle him with an extremely small/tight muzzle and then leave the room so she could place his IV. I've never been asked to leave the room in any vet office. Beyond all of this, while we were saying our final goodbyes, you could plainly hear the vet in the other room talking to herself, or her cat, about how my boy just crossed "the bridge."All in all the tech was just insensitive. The Dr. was my real issue. If she wasn't a 60 year old woman I would've told her in person how I felt. If you can, please avoid this place.Update: The company's comment to my review:Thank you for your input. Unfortunately your perception and recollection of what happened at 4 AM (not 2 AM) is very far from what really happened. Your dog was brought in at 4 AM very disoriented, after having a seizure at home, with the request for euthanasia. He was given an IM injection of a sedative that included pain medication. After that you were asked to lift him ONE FOOT onto a lift table so we could place an IV catheter to give further sedation and euthanasia solution.  We are sorry if we misjudged you and your dad's strength and would have gladly lifted him that one foot by ourselves. We were hoping to use a back leg for catheter placement so we would not be in the way during your pet's final moments. The vein was not adequate so a front leg had to be used. Your dog did not suffer other than a slight pinch when  ONE (not two) injection with  sedation/pain killer was given. We usually place IV catheters in the treatment area as owner's  anxiety filled "reassuring" words most often cause more distress to the patient and staff who are suppose to be focusing on your pet, not you.  And no you haven't been asked to wait in another room by a veterinarian as you have never euthanized this  pet with its unique characteristics under the same circumstances. There was no fumbling with needles. A smaller needle needed to be used to flush the IV port to verify patency.  Also  the statement about crossing the Rainbow Bridge is a sentiment often made when one passes and was made to your pet in the room, not outside the room to the cat or other person.  Despite your lack of appreciation of  your pet's smooth passing we are still grateful that we could be there for your buddy "Bo".Their reply, which basically called me a liar, was completely unexpected. Most companies would apologize for a bad experience, not make fun or try to deny things that did happen. My baby had a seizure at 2am, but yet they still wish to argue that it was 4. I am beyond annoyed with this place and will be showing this to everyone I can. Read Less

Having to take a pet in an emergency is never easy. Especially when you've never met the vet that needs to help your animal. We chose this hospital after our dog was acting lethargic and vomiting. They ran there tests and through X-ray noticed some blockage in my dogs intestines we were devastated to here our two your old dog was having this issue and needed exploratory surgery to see what could be done. They operated on my boy for two and a half hours. They started surgery 45 minutes before closing. They didn't kick us out to go home or our vet who we didn't know when they would be able to do surgery. They just wanted to fix our dog. My dog has started the road to recovery and is doing well. He is healing well because they treated him like the family pet. As they cared for him they would hand feed him pet him and even snuggled a bit. Not to mention let him meet the cat they have there as he has cats at home which that made him happy. After surgery was done everything was explained to me and ideas were exchanged. One of the vets literally left to get her daughter came back with her. Got my dog ready for transport. Then she stayed after that till they opened the next day to finish her job. My dog gets excited to see the whole staff. He really doesn't mind going to them. I can't tell you how awesome that is for an animal that was in distress to trust the people that fixed him. He wasn't a patient he is family to them. They saved my dogs life. It might be there job but they love it and it shows. Thank you to the whole staff. We will be doing visits but hopefully always healthy ones from this point forward but if not I know he's safe and will be well again.Read Less

We took our very sick old cat here on a Saturday evening and they were just fantastic.  Mindy greeted us, and from the minute she started treating our cat, she was wonderful.  It was clear that she loved cats and was very comfortable handling ours - even as sick as he was.  Our cat has always been a "difficult patient" and she made him and us more comfortable.  The vet came in a took a quick look and gave us our options.  At 16 years old and gravely ill, we decided that it would be most humane to euthanize.  They took our cat to the back to prep him and insert the IV catheter - he was very sick and his veins had shrunk so much that they had a difficult time inserting the IV.  We were by ourselves in the examining room waiting for Mindy to come back with our cat so that we could be with him during the procedure,   While we were sitting there anxious, in tears, in walked "Peter", the in-house cat, who somehow sensed our distress and did his best to comfort us.  He brushed against us, sat on our laps and cuddled while we waited.  I can't begin to tell you what a difference it made.Throughout the whole procedure, we were treated politely and with respect for us and our cat.  I am confident he was comfortable in his final minutes. As far as the other reviews about cost, unfortunately emergency vet care is very expensive and always has been.  We knew that when we came and were not surprised.  We just went through this process 3 months ago with our other cat, but at our regular vet during business hours.  The cost at the emergency vet was about 40% higher, which was to be expected.  All costs were explained to us before any additional treatment was done.  I would take my pets here anytime! Our girl Bailey had chewed up a bottle of Aleve. My daughter and I were crying and frantic we had no idea how many, if any Aleve Bailey might have consumed. The animal hospital associated with our vet is in South Tampa. Considering the urgency of our situation we could not take the chance on travel time. We live in Eastlake. I phoned Animal Emergency of Countryside they helped calm me down, told me what they would do to treat Bailey and gave me an estimate for the visit. When we arrived they took Bailey back immediately while I filled out paperwork. We were able to see and hear them while they took care of Bailey. They were very kind and gentle with Bailey they held her and talked to her the entire time. They gave Bailey an injection to make her vomit to get any Aleve she might have ingested out of her system. After Bailey had emptied her stomach they gave her another injection to settle her stomach.  The price was very reasonable and as they quoted me over the phone. Animal Emergency & Urgent CareHated itThis place is owned and operated by DR. Jean McKnight  If you love your animal NEVER go here.  At 12:30am I was awakened to by my dog Jack as he fell against the side of my bed. I turned on the light to see his head cocked as he tried to get up and again fell t.  I called my vet Dr Pola an amazing Dr at Enterprise Road Animal Hospital, his message spoke of the 24hour emergency clinic at Curlew and 19, Dr McKnights facility.  Carrying my 57 pound blue tick/beagle I drove as fast as I dared as he seemed to be having mini seizures.  When I arrived the nurse had just finished mopping, watched me get out of my car carrying my dog and went inside, not bothering to hold the door or help in any way. A  I got through the outside door to see her standing watching as my dog was having mini seizures. This nurse stated she had just mopped the floor and be careful not to slip and to go through the next door to an examining room on the left. She again watched as I struggled through the 2nd door.   She came into the room and had me place Jack on the examining table, he was struggling to stand, couldn't and was still having mini seizures. She watched doing nothing, but wanted me to fill out paperwork.  I said maam, this is an emergency, its 12:45 in the morning, can we do the paperwork after you and the doctor stabilize my dog, she calmly said NO.  So, after we filled out the paperwork, Dr Reddy came in. He did an anal probe, I have no idea why, he was falling over to his left, there was nothing up his butt that would make him do that.  He performed a physical, checked Jacks eyes, ears and heart and decided to draw blood. Jack was coming aroung by now, an hour or so after we had arrived.   The Dr and the nurse asked if they could take Jack to the next room to draw blood and would bring him right back, It was obvious Jack was scared, (don't ever trust or allow them to take your pet to another room without you seeing what they are doing).  They came back and I asked where Jack was, they had put him into a small cage where he couldn't stand up. It was metal on the sides and bottom with a screen on the front. They said they put him there while they waited for the blood work to be done.   Jack could wait with me and at least I could comfort him.   That was a disgusting place to put my family member.  Dr Reddy explained the same things over and over again of what wasn't wrong, he obviously was inexperienced or just a poor vet. I didn't care what wasn't wrong with my dog, I was concerned with what was...duh!  Jack lay on the floor and it looked as though he were getting electric shocks, he would completely spasm for 20-30 seconds, stop and then start again.  Dr Reddy and his nurse just stood there watching, frozen. I said for God sakes you're a vet do something!!  Nothing.  Dr Reddy then told me that Jack more than likely has a lesion/tumor in his brain or on his spinal cord and that I will need to take him to a neurologist for an ultra sound. There wasnothing more he could do except prescribe, antibiotic, prednisone and valium.  He suggested shots, He gave Jack 3 shots in the fur on the back of his neck and then apparently a large dose of valium in the vein on Jacks left front leg. It took Dr Reddy several tries, he even swapped out the needle once before he managed to draw back blood and then inject.  Jack seized and convulsed severly, I lay on the floor keeping his head from banging the cement, the chair or the wall while again the Dr and the nurse just stood there like bumps on a log watching. They offered no help nor assistance while my dog had a severe reaction to the the shot they had just given.  I was floored.  Dr Reddy suggested I stay on the floor with Jack preventing him from banging into something and hurting himself while he and the nurse left.  The nurse came back with the bill $651.00.  I met with Dr McKnight 2 days later, I now see why my dog got the treatment he did.  Never ever go there, ever if you care for your pet.  My groomer shared a similar story about this facility.  They then checked me out on linked in. Yes the bill was pricey but for convenience and to be in and out of there with everything our baby needed. It was well worth it. Wish human ER operated like this. If it were us we would still be waiting to be seen by a doctor!!  Really impressed. Thank you! Read Less

I see someone else gave a review with a similar experience regarding the cost. First off, you know when you take an animal to an emergency vet you are going to pay so I was prepared to pay the $86 dollar office visit when I called ahead, I was fine with that. I didn't much care for the people running the show there to be honest but I care about my dog and I just wanted him to be ok. Ok so we do the office visit examination and nothing found wrong (he was lethargic and walking sideways) I will say in all fairness the vet did a very thorough examination so that part was great. Here's where we get into what I deem "fraud". Fraud to me (in this scenario) is hidden costs not made available to the consumer ..drummed up charges given to the consumer at the point of payment time, not making the consumer aware of "said charges" prior to services rendered. THAT to me is fraudulent practice. Ok so we go from $86 to $400 ..YES $400!!!!! for office visit and lab and a few pills (the pills were the cheap part)  . How did we arrive at $400??!!  A lot of drummed up extra non standard lab charges on my receipt it appears to drive up the bill. I had to sign the credit card slip to take my dog home but I am going to contest $300 of the charges as "fraud" explaining to the credit card company I was NOT informed/not quoted prior to service. Amazing how the vet and vet tech "hid" when it was time to present and pay the bill. Cannot recommend this place at ALL. Wont be going back! Read Less

I needed to have a dog put to sleep at this hospital. Agreed this is a really difficult situation for everyone. My dog could no longer breath. The vet insisted on giving him a sedative to make it easier to give him the shot.  You need to sit  for 15 minutes until the shot works watching you beloved animal gasp for air so that it was easier for the vet to give the shot. It was horrible. It was a Yorkie who was unable to move much at this point anyway. The vet just wanted to make sure that she could give the shot easily. My dog was laying on the table just gasping not moving around. No other vet would have let him and my family suffer for that amount of time. This was not the first dog I have needed to put to sleep but the experience for all of us was HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE  BEWARE if you really love your animal. I seriously doubt this vet's ability. If I could rate 0 stars I would. I now use the emergency vet on US 19 near Innisbrook. 1,000,000 % better. DO NOT GO HERE. Read Less

Hated my experience. Customer service lies about prices. Acted so friendly on the phone(I was told prices would be similar to my day vet) and then when I came in for a visit and surprise surprise!...the treatment cost was $600 MORE than my vet. On top of that, after being misinformed by the front desk about their prices they couldn't even waive or lower the visit cost of $84 (total of maybe 3 min with the vet in the room and 15 min of me sitting waiting)! I dont appreciate someone messing around with money like that. Be honest and up front with people. Worst place I've ever been too. I would never recommend this place. Read Less

They were wonderful with Bailey and we are truly indebted to them. Read Less

We had to take our 7 year old dog here in the middle of the night for difficulty breathing after he had been vomiting all day. They took an xray right away and found he aspirated from vomiting! They gave him medications and antibiotics for me to do at home to help him not get pneumonia.

Read Less

We have been here multiple times with our two dogs as they choose to get sick after 5 pm.  This place is responsive, offers good care and has saved our boys more than once. We've been here for a bone stuck over the lower jaw.  For vomiting and diarrhea.  For symptoms of pancreatitis, and other problems that I can't recall. The vet was there promptly (if they weren't already on the premises), they listen, provided prompt and effective treatment.Highly recommend this facility when your regular vet is closed.
