Find somewhere else. We've been going to this vet for years now, and their care has never improved nor did the prices. My dog has been battling recurring allergies that has never been solved, even after 3 years of going here! They rather give medications and steroid shots instead of finding out the root cause, not including raising the price of the steroid shot from $50 to over $100. Find a different vet who actually treats the allergy instead of treating only the symptoms, because they're money hungry. Read Less

I have trusted Krugr, my geriatric cat, to the kind attention of veterinarians and staff at this well managed facility for 3 1/2 yrs. I believe he is living a longer more comfortable life thanks to services rendered here. Regular semi-annual exams, blood work, and dental care have been performed with loving care at reasonable rates. Staff is never too hurried to indulge my questions and concerns. The facility itself is immaculate and well designed for the comfort of visitors and staff alike. Krugr seems to have fared well while boarded during my travels. Small favors and incidentals make returning here pleasurable as well. My experience makes easy to recommend entrusting your animal companions to this long established veterinary hospital. Read Less

If I could give it 0 stars I would. This vet is concerned with one thing and that's money. They couldn't care less about the animals or the people that bring them in. Have taken my dog in 3 different times for an allergy and have paid them $1k in total bills for them to guess and never be correct.  After frustration, a google search and a $9 shampoo solved the problem. Maybe vet school didn't teach that. Later after needing a form signed by the vet to travel internationally, they wanted to repeat an exam that was performed 24hrs before hand in order to sign the form. The bill was paid on a Friday, found out Monday we needed an additional form, and they wanted to charge another $60 just to sign the form. The lady "greeting" people at the front desk has an intense attitude and will get aggressive with you if you dare to disagree. I went in yesterday to renew my dog tags, the recent shots on the paper work from the shot vet was provided and task completed. I made an appointment for my dog for anal glands and was told they could do this, but don't do grooming. I was given an appt today and called today to ask what the time was again and ask if I could leave and come back. I was told "No your dog doesn't have it's flu shot." I said I just got his tags renewed yesterday and how do you know you didn't ask me. I could have it in my paperwork at home. Her answer was "You didn't ask if you could leave him." Maybe the whole customer supportive idea is lost with them here, I didn't know I had to ask specific questions like; does my dog need a flu shot to be seen, "no" but if you leave him yes! Well ok then, how do I know this?Anyway, I was called back and told my appt to have my dog's anal glands done was canceled no reason, and of course. So who is to blame here? The customer because one assumed they could leave the dog, yet I called in to ask and was scolded on the phone for not having a flu shot and assuming I could leave my dog. Hmmmm could it be someone was frustrated with me being rude back on the phone. If you dish it out then expect to get it back. You started the conversation by commenting back at me, " well you didn't tell us you were leaving him". Instead of saying "I'm sorry no one informed you; YOU NEED TO HAVE A FLU SHOT IN ORDER TO LEAVE YOUR DOG HERE! It's that simple, but no I am told I can't bring my dog in for this or any service it seems like? I am happy to give my business to Paws In Paradise just down the road from me where they don't require all the paperwork and hassel for one flu shot! I guess reviews work against someone when they cancel an appt and say "We really don't want you". Well I really don't care and will give my money where it is deserved. AMAZING!! My cat got sick with a blood clot  and I went to tampa bay emergency vet on Belcher. It was horrible. Took my cat out of there at 2am after waiting 6 hours. Called every place Monday morning so my cat wouldn't die. I talked to a very nice receptionist at about 8:15 am after being turned down by several others because they were to busy. She was able to fit me in for a 9:30 appointment. As soon as I arrived at the waiting room the lady(sorry I dont remember your name, but you were awesome) at the front desk knew who I was and took me straight into a room, where within 3 minutes a tech came in a was very friendly and caring towards my cat. She weighed my cat and took the tempature and said the doctor would be in  within a few minutes. 3 minutes later dr. Elder came in and examined Niby and within  a minute he knew what was wrong. He advised me to get a ultrasound at another facility and told me there wasn't alot he could do. He did advise me of my options and told me several things I could do but he didn't try and sell me anything or push a treatment that doesn't work. After learning everything i needed to know i asked him how much I owe. HE SAID NOTHING! I was shocked. He then stated because there wasn't much he could do because of her situation he wasn't charging me. You tell me the last time a vet did that. I would without a doubt recommend this place. When i got home i looked up everything he told me and it was like he wrote the book on it. I will never go any place else if my cats get sick. EVER! UPDATE! The receptionist called me today to check up on niby. I told her I wasnt sure if I should continue to try and continue niby's life. She said she would talk to Dr.Elder and get right back. 3 minutes later I get the call. She said dr.Elder edvised that niby had a fighting chance to beat this, but could also parrish in any minute because of the heart problem. He also said to keep my appointment for a ultrasound because niby had a chance. Once again THANK YOU Pinellas animal hospital. I asked if I can donate and was told they take donations for friends of strays and another option to help pay for people who cant afford it. They are fair with their pricing and will even review with you before proceeding. 2015: I don't know what I would have done without Pinellas Animal Hospital. They have been available every time my fur babies needed anything. Everyone goes above and beyond every single time. Dr. Russell is amazing. Update 2018: the staff is still good but doesn't go above and beyond the way they did when we first started going. My cats are indoor outdoor so I first went here when my cat was attacked and her wound got infected and needed medical attention. They were quick validate my concern, and after keeping her overnight for observation after they drained it, I was able to bring her home the next day. They called several times over the next few weeks to follow up and make sure she was healing as expected. My dog was injured by a groomer when I was visiting my mom from out of town so I didn’t have a local vet. I was frantic and called several vets with good reviews. PAH was able to fit her in on a busy day when several other locations I called would not. Dr. Elmer is excellent and the staff is great. They were very fair in pricing and accommodating to my schedule for follow up appointments since I was coming from out of town. It’s definitely worth the 2 hr drive to bring my baby here. Ive been going here for 2 years. My dog has Addisons disease and needs a monthly injection of percortin otherwise he gets extremely sick and could die. The other day I showed for his monthly injection and as usual they were pushing their greedy money making agenda on me. Telling me I need all this other stuff. I questioned it and was told to leave. I asked why I cannot question what treatments you are giving my dog. They were extremely rude and asked me to leave again.  I said wait a minute I have an appointment for a monthly injectuon and you know damn well if I dont get it he could go into adisonian shock and even die. Its not easy to find another vet on short notice. Please give him the injection and you will never have to see me again and ill have a month to find new vet. I was told no and to leave immediately. These people DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMAL. They are there only to make money pushing services and vaccinations you do not need and when you question them they throw you out like a criminal. This is the worst vet I have ever dealt with, with unfair practices and downright rude staff. Ive given then well over $2500 in last two years. I have a bunny, which is a new pet for me. I looked around and found 2 vets in the area that treat bunnies, I went with Pinellas Animal Hospital because they were closer to me and because they mentioned they had another bunny coming in to get fixed. That gave me confidence that they had a good amount of bunny experience. They did not disappoint, the staff is SUPER friendly. I loved that they called my bunny my baby, I spoke to 5 different people during the process and time she was with them and they were all very nice and answered all of my questions. Everyone here couldn't have been nicer... Well, unless they didn't charge us. But in all seriousness the clinic was clean, the staff were on point, compassionate, and caring. The one criticism I have is charging us for a follow up appointment 2 days after we brought our pup in. Seemed a little excessive considering the amount we paid in our first appointment and the whole 30 seconds they looked at her to say everything looks good on the follow-up. We hadn't established a vet yet when I had to call for an appointment for one of our dogs. The staff was very friendly on the phone, put me at ease. When we got there, the building was very clean and they had a great dog-walking area outside. Staff was very caring and compassionate toward my old dog and me. I thought we had to euthanize her, but Dr. Elmer gave her a thorough examination and offered an alternate plan. I don't have enough words to express my thanks to the staff of this animal hospital, especially Darcie! She was extremely professional and showed nothing but compassion and care for me and my new pet Coonie! While visiting my dad, I came across this amazing stray who was clearly a domesticated cat either lost or discarded and after spending 2 weeks trying to find its owner but couldn't, I decided I could not leave this beauty behind when I go back home. After getting a complete check, Dr. Mandy Walken gave him a complete bill of health, vacations and a bath, and he now is my buddy for life. My insecure Chihuahua has always needed a mussel and they were able to inspect and draw blood without it. This was a good sign. The doctors and staff, from the technicians to the front office, always greet us by name and genuinely care about our dog. I love this hospital. I have been with them for 7 years. I have two pets and they take good care of them. They are polite friendly, and they take last minute appointments when they can, which has been most of the time. I remember the very first time I took my chihuahua to the hospital for a bee sting and they treated my little baby like he was a child. The care is remarkable. Not only that, Pinellas Animal Hospital keeps you informed of new treatments and the cost are reasonable. I love the doctors and the staff is extremely friendly. Additionally, the best part of the experience is that the staff will call you the very next day to check on your pet to see if he is doing ok. It is truly like taking your pet to the pediatrician. My cat had a blocked urethra. We were there 5 times over about two weeks and they took very good care of my cat. They were even nice enough to show me to express my cats bladder so that if he had trouble going I could empty his bladder myself. They are nice people. Read Less

I did not take my cat here but I did call every vet in St Pete looking for a rare prescription food for her that my vet ran out of right before a long holiday weekend. Pinellas Animal Hospital was the only vet that had a bag but it was reserved for one of their clients. After calling around for hours I called them back and explained they were the only place who had it. They were so nice that they called the client the food was reserved for and got her permission to sell it to me. Great customer service! Read Less

Very adequate for giving shots and meds but they overschedule appointments so I have always had an unduly long wait.  Recent serious episode with my dog and the lack of any clue by 3 different doctors resulted and 3 blood tests within 3 weeks and not treatment.  It is only a miracle that she recovered on her own.  Am looking for a replacement Vet asap. I was able to schedule an appointment today on very short notice which was greatly appreciated. The staff was very professional and greeted me at the door as soon as Paris and I walked and helped calm Paris down. After meeting Heidi I knew my dog Paris was in good hands. I had a wonderful experience at Pinellas Animal Hospital. I have never had to take my parrot to the vet before (He was handed down to us). I called early and they were able to get me in right away with my Amazon Parrot. The office staff was very friendly and caring and called my parrot by name. We were greeted as we came in. Although Dr Elmer couldn't help us, he referred me to a specialist. The vet tech even offered to make an appointment for us with the specialist. We were regulars here, but after boarding my cat for 5 days, he was returned to me with his belly and bottom covered in dried diarrhea. He had obviously sat in it at least overnight, and they couldn't have not seen it while loading him into the carrier. But they never mentioned it to me and I only realized once I was down the road and the smell had filled the car. I called after bathing him, and they tried to tell me it must have happened while they were loading him up, and that he was being aggressive. I know that it must have happened much earlier than that, and someone choose to ignore it. I paid $120 for the boarding, but they offered only $25 in account credit. The big girl at the front desk is extremely rude and has gave me false quotes multiple times. The 2nd time, I just needed a rabies shot and failed to tell me that there had to be a "re-examination fee" and I told her that she never mentioned that and she started to lecture me on how it's similar to a nurse having to have a doctor around before the nurse gives a patient a shot. I work in the medical field and that's not true so she should probably get her facts straight before lecturing me about something she doesn't know anything about just like her job. Very rude Vet. Came back for xrays and tried to charge me another fee for an exam after already paying them almost 300 dollars in work simply because it was a different vet. Unbelievable. Went in for dog diarrhea , he told me my dog has some additional senior bone growing on his back and that's why he's in pain. My dog is 15, he has sensitive stomach . I know my dog. Argued with Dr. until he tested the stool and said oh yeah there is something in his stool, let's try antibiotics . Week later my dog was back to normal. I came in there crying twice worried about my world "kai" and they do everything possible to work with you financially and have empathy knowing that money is tight sometimes and don't make you feel guilty about it. Phenomenal. We have been taking our dog to a different local vet that was high volume and low quality and the difference between there and Pinellas Animal Hospital is shocking. We will never visit anywhere else. This is definitely our vet now. On our first visit, I called Pinellas Animal Hospital because my dog was having problems breathing AGAIN and we were sick of the other vet charging us money to do nothing. They asked if we could be there within 25 minutes. We headed out the door and arrived shortly after I hung up the phone. They saw us right away and placed my pup on oxygen. The vet came in a little while later (we see Dr. Elmer) and explained to us what was going on and what needed to be done. We learned more in this short visit with him than we had in the previous 4-5 visits to the other vet. After spending the day on oxygen, we picked our pup up. Upon returning to pick him up, we met with Dr. Elmer again to discuss his treatment. Very personable and phenomenal service. We have since returned for a check-up visit in which we were in and out in less than a half an hour. More importantly, they were prepared for us, knew what was going on with our dog and actually cared about how he was doing. So, so much better than his old vet. We are loving Pinellas Animal Hospital and we would highly recommend them. We won't be visiting anywhere else in the future unless we have to. Read Less

I've taken two dogs here and never had a bad experience. The vets are honest and take the time to answer questions, thoroughly examine your pet, and recommend next steps. They give a discount for first exam if you adopt your pet which I think is great. The vet techs are also very friendly and willing to interact with the animals. Overall, great veterinary location.
