I am really upset and I hope someone has a suggestion.....I rescued 2 small dogs and the first expense was to get rid of the fleas. 2nd expense was going to the vets. After all the shots and check ups I couldn't afford to feed myself. So expensive but I was trying to do the right thing. I have been dishing out $50 for flea/tick/heartgard. This month I was 4 days late (Have to buy 1 month at a time, I am poor) They refused to sell me the meds, I explained I did not have the money 4 days ago. They told me to bring in the dogs to get retested for $38.00. Now I explained that if I was not able to afford the $50 I certainly couldn't afford the extra $38. I had been going to Animal Wellness on a recommendation. So, when I got home (crying because I also can't afford to treat fleas again!) I called Turkey Creek vets. The are the sister to Animal Wellness. I was put on a long hold twice then without speaking to anyone..the reception said .it's policy we have to retest and yes it will be $38. So my question is...what and who does everyone do every month to fight flea and ticks? After asking for help on Plant City Word of month this is what I received: It would be ridiculous to retest them after 4 days because a heartworm test doesn't actually test for heartworm. It tests for the antigen released by the body trying to fight the heartworm. Take proof of the negative heartworm test to ACT, TLC, or another clinic. Melissa Edwards PS ivermectin is the active ingredient in heartgard, which kills early stages of heartworm, so giving a week late would be just fine. Read Less

Our dog almost died from a surgery from this place. I know it's the risk associated with any surgery, but it was botched from the beginning. He had only one testicle and without preforming an ultrasound first, they assumed that the other had just not dropped when in fact they found nothing after digging in his abdomen for the second one. They did not suture his muscular wall properly which resulted in the wound completely opening, becoming life threateningly infected and ended up costing us another $500 and two extra weeks recovery time for a second surgery. Thank God for Dr. Artman and the staff at Turkey Creek Animal Hospital. The second surgery was done beautifully and he was set up for success with the proper medication from time we expressed concern or else he might not be here today. We will never trust anyone but their staff with our family members again. Read Less
