My baby bear was having an medical issue boarding in Punta Gorda years ago. I had never been to this clinic but I called here for help. They listened, were compassionate and gave me help I needed and never asked for anything in return. They were reassuring and even called to check on me a few days after. Needless to say our experience going Groves this time was a very hard one for us. We found out our 10 year old Boxer Khloie had lymphoma. With all the craziness of not knowing what to do next and forgetting things including bringing the dog back for what my wife thought was just a one on one with the Doctor. The staff was very understanding they even stayed open late so we could start her on what hopefully will be a regiment for recovery and relief. Dr. Groves is amazing. He called me at 8:00 p.m. the day of the initial appointment which I might add was not scheduled just to tell me himself even though he had already spoken with my wife what was going on and where we were at as far as knowing anything. Our cat muffin had a breathing problem and we called our normal vet and they said they couldn't see her right away. My wife and I were really upset because of that. So my wife drove down to Groves animal clinic and they said bring her in now even though they were very busy. Dr Groves saw here after a short wait and immediately took care of her.Had to take fluid out from around the heart and gave her oxygen after he was done for 4 hrs to make sure she would be ok. She was!! He took tests as well to make sure if their were any other issues and they came back fine. He gave us medication for muffin and today she is so much better breathing. We really appreciated that everyone their really cared about muffin and that they took us in even though we were a new patient. If you want to go to a vet in port charlotte fl I would absolutely recommend Groves animal clinic as they are so knowledgeable and everyone there cares about your pet as well as the owners. Dr Groves took great care of my diabetic cat. I called at a moment's notice because my cat was having problems breathing. Being a new patient I didn't think I would get an appointment right away. They said they were fully booked but happy to see him if I bring him in. I love this vet clinic. I’ve been taking my dogs here for a couple of months. Their prices are good compared to the other place I was going to in Port Charlotte and all of the staff is so nice. The nurses and doctors are so thorough in explaining everything and will answer every question you have. I had to put my dog down a little over a week ago, and they were so compassionate, they even sent us a card with his paw print and a bunch of staff members wrote nice things in it. About six months or so ago I put out my back so tge staff had me call from the parking lot when I arrived so they could carry the cat carrier in and out for me. My backs fine now but to this day they remember me, welcome me by name and still carry the cat and food out to the car for me without me even asking. always good service with nice people who seem to care about their customers. Worst experience ever. Dr. Groves misdiagonised an easy to find polyup. Had my dog on 5 different medications. Charged $3,000 to not solve an easily diagnosed issue. He does not listen to the customer. He is all knowing. Blames symptoms on allergies and other nonsense. I call it Voodoo Veterinary Medicine. One of his prescriptions cancelled out another medications effect. Then the staff stalled on sending medical records to the new vet. I've asked for a refund of some of the expenses,but they refuse to answer the request. Read Less

We had to bring our almost 13 year old baby girl to them yesterday and we had to establish a relationship because we have moved here from NH. They were so nice on the phone, accommodating to our emergency needs. When we arrived the front desk staff were pleasant and helpful. Dr. Groves was excellent with us as well as Sadie. You could tell he was truly all about making her better so we could bring her home. Sadie's nurses Len and Steve have been very good communicators and keeping us posted at least twice a day. They listen to me and truly seem to care. Groves Veterinary Clinic Port Charlotte Florida, Killed My DOG! Yes, Thats right I took my dog to this Vet, My dogs have been going to this vet for over 3 or 4 years, My Two hairless dogs, One with Fur & the other without fur. I have spent over $11,000 on these dogs with this vet. My one dog she was about 12 pounds, about 1 1/2 ago the vet was taking many growths off the dog, there were not cancer just mainly fatty growths. It seemed everytime I went in the vet wanted to cut something off. This was ongoing for like 1 year, any each time came the $850.00 price. I was starting to wonder is this excess work. So after a recent operation for a growth on the top of the ear, I was supposed to bring to the dog to check if he got all of the growth. while waiting to come back in to get a checkup, The was not feeling too good, so I brought the dog in, I explained the dog is not feeling good, but they wanted to do surgery for that growth they didn't get it all and charge us again? Well I told the vet NO, more surgery well at that time they took the dog and gave her a blood test and checked her. They all the office vets came out front and said my dog had diabetes, I said how can that be, I have been bringing the dog her always for checkups. Well at that time they gave her about 7 shots charged us $640.00 ( no Insulin ) and said see how she feels tomorrow. If she doesn't feel good bring her back in. Well from that day on the dog was in a zombie state. When I got her home she was shocked, she wouldn't eat, drink she threw up and got so sick I had to take her in the next day., Funny Uh, One day perfect after given 7 shots stuff like pain meds, anti-vomitting, vitamins. NO INSULIN, when they said she was diabetic, so all night the dog was in a zombie state. Next day we took the dog back into DR. Groves, he said she need to be in admitted. So they did they kept her in for 4 days and finally said they she had ketoacidosis & congestive heart her glucose also was over 600. we decided to take her out and take her to another vet, The next vet said shes too fargone and all her veins are collapsed from iv's. We had to put her to sleep. So after $3000 of treatment with Dr Groves we had to take her to another vet and spend $185.00 to put her to sleep. Well we requested her medical records, once we got them we saw elevated glucose levels over time, we also noted this was after each operation, 125 then 245, then 300 then 434. each time getting worst the vet never brought this to our attention ever.Until it was too late and even then never gave insulin. a nightmare. This is crazy they have all the medical records and blood tests I should have been told about the glucose levels THAT THE REASON FOR THE BLOOD TEST Read Less

Coming up on our one year anniversary . We would like to express our gratitude to Groves for saving the life of our beloved Gemini . Gemini is 10 years old beautiful yellow lab , but is pure white . Last January 2014 Gemini had been slightly limping and favoring his left front leg . We were in the backyard one day and he made a sudden move and started to yelp. His limp was more severe so we immediately took him to see Dr. Groves . An x-ray and blood work was done at that time... . His leg , just above the elbow showed a severe fracture . Dr. Groves suspected that the bone had become weak because of a tumor . Dr. Groves immediately conferred with a specialist . It was confirmed to be an odteosarcoma an aggressive type of bone cancer . Dr. Groves said the leg needed to be in amputated immediately to give Gembo a chance to live . He expressed the urgency for the surgery . A chest x-ray was performed to check for metastasis or the spread of cancer there was none . Gembo's front left leg was removed the next morning , the surgery was successful Gem recovered in the hospital for several days . The staff went above and beyond to make him comfortable . His recovery time was about 10 weeks ,. Every week we returned to see Dr. Groves and his staff to check his progress . We take Gembo every three months for a chest x-ray , he is cancer free . Gembo is doing great , he gets in the pool every day on the couch he is enjoying life . I urge anyone in this same situation to be aggressive in the treatment for the pet .
