The entire staff of this center is thoroughly professional and truly cares about pets. Not only do they give our Shih Tsu the best medical care, but they also groom her better than any "groomer" we have tried in St. Lucie, and we have tried many. They treat each pet with TLC, as though they were their own.Our Zoey happened to get something sharp in the pad of her paw. We thought it was possibly a shard of glass, so we called them and they took her right away. It turned out to be a thorny bud from a Bougainvillea and had cause her a lot of pain! The doctor removed it with finesse and Zoey actually smiled with relief. I have never seen such caring people for pets. Their prices are reasonable too. My only complaint is that they do not inform you of procedures and the prices or necessity for those procedures, until after they're done. They were good to my last dog, and made her passing more gentle than I've seen of other's dogs'. The Doctors are knowledgeable and professional. The bottom line is that this place is so money hungry it's ridiculous. Of that is taught in school how to pray on the client's emotions because they know that we love our furbabies and we will do anything for them. When I brought her in the first time for her shots she kept on hounding me about heartworm and flea medicine. I do not give my dog flea medicine unless she has fleas and I do not give topical flea medicine. If she gets fleas I will give her oral flea medicine one time. Which will stay in her system. Heartworm is 1 year old once every 3 months. I am not going to feed my dog all this poison for no reason.We will be definitely looking for another vet tomorrow. I brought my one Belgian Shepherd in there about 4 months ago and the ER doctor was outstanding and a and I brought my King Charles Cocker Spaniel in last night and the ER doctor was outstanding She was very very helpful with the dog problem and very attentive to my dog if there was a way for me to bring her in and have all of my animals taking taken care of by her I would do so I would recommend taking your animals to her anytime Read Less

I will never take any of my pets to this place. A friend of mine took her dog to them & was told he had kidney disease. My friend believed them so she let them treat him. Her cat got sick so she brought her in. She was told the cat had diabetes. My friend & her husband had to make the heart wrenching decision to put their cat down. The cat was over 14 yrs old & they didn't feel prolonging her life was in her best interest. She told the vet their decision over the phone & asked them to wait until she arrived before they euthanized her. On her way in to the vet her phone started blowing up with calls from the vets office. When she could answer safely she was told that they had already euthanized her cat. Needless to say she was furious. Then it got worse when she arrived at the vet. They put her in one of the exam rooms & brought in her deceased cat. They apologized for the mix up & told her they would take 50% off the bill, which was close to $1500.00. She told them she didn't think she should have to pay, they said she would have to & charged her card on file! So, she wasn't about to take her dog back there for treatment. She found another vet & told him about her dogs liver disease. He examined the dog & asked her what made her think the dog had liver disease. She told him thats what the vet at VMC was treating him for. Turns out her dog doesn't have liver disease! This place isn't compassionate & they are treating things that don't exist! Just be very careful if you take your pets there & please get a second opinion before allowing them to treat anything major. Read Less

Wonderful staff and doctors.  Referred there by our Vet and although we were not their regular patients, we were treated with great compassion and patience.  They kindly helped us make the hard decision that no one wants to make for our beloved Hannah.  Even though they could have operated, the doctor was honest in her opinion of that not being a good option.  Thank you so much for your kindness and compassion. My boxer "Speckles " had a seizure in the middle of the night 12/20/17 We had to pay up front $1,450.00. They were supposed to call us when she was awake. We called 3 times the next day to come and see her but were told she was still sedated. I also signed to have CPR immediately if necessary. Instead I received a cold call the next morning that she had passed, the vet asked if I wanted to have them do CPR ,after she had already died. That was after the fact! She promised that Speckles would have an individual cremation. The cremation wasn't done until 12/26, meaning that her body sat 5 days, probably in a heap of other pets. My beloved pet that I wanted to pass at home with family, instead died alone in a crate. this place should be closed down and their licenses revoked. Read Less

I had to take my furbaby here when one day he was in so much pain he couldn't move and was shaking. Since then we have made the move to Veterinary Medical as our primary care vet. We had a dog that was very sick and they were able to identify the infection. Our primary vet recommend putting the dog to sleep. This place saved our old dog so we can enjoy her at least a little while longer. They are clean, friendly, and you can go see your dog any time. Read Less

They saved our dogs life after a misdiagnosis from Kindness animal hospital. He needed surgery and a hospital stay. All of the vets called us during their shift to update us. They stayed true to the estimate I was given, even though it ended up costing more than they estimated. EVERY single staff member we dealt with was professional and friendly. I have taken my Furry child here for emergency purposes and routine care probably 7 or 8 times. I boarded my little one and have seen 3 of the Doctors and I would highly recommend this practice based on my experience. I believe a lot of thought went into the design of this facility with features like double doors to both entries, two separated waiting sreas, doggie cams in the boarding rooms and when they answer the phone they will ask if this is an emergency before putting you on hold if they need to put you on hold. The Doctors and staff have always been very thoughtful and caring. Also, I believe the fees are very reasonable compared to other veterinary offices I have visited. Even on an emergency basis I did not have to mortgage my house for care for my little one. I love the peace of mind I get from knowing Veterinary Medical Center is there when we need them.Read Less

Will not be back. Paid $1600 for my dogs to be there for 48 hours. Staff told me that if there was any additional charges they would call and notify us. When we came to pick them up they told us we owed them close to $300. After expressing my complaints they looked in to it and realized they overcharged me on one thing and discounted me on something else but still had to pay $85. Staff was nice but the extra charges I was not notified about made the experience a negative one for me. Read Less

I love the people and love the service. I had to bring in my 19 year old Cockapoo, Lexi, in early November 2016 and unfortunately, she didn't come back with me. They were very comforting during our visit and allowed us to take the time we needed. Lexi had been seeing various doctors for 3 years since moving to Port St. Lucie from New Jersey. I had researched various veterinary's and from what I read on line, I liked what I read. When I got my new puppy, Sierra, I hesitated to go back because I could not walk through the front door. Unfortunately, I went to another Vet, Banfield, and after being there almost 3 hours, I could not go back. I had to take Sierra for an emergency visit the night after I went to Banfield and saw Dr. Garity. I explained the reason I hadn't taken Sierra there originally but I would surely be back. He noted my file stating not to use the room Lexi had been in on her last day of distress. Thanks everyone for being so sympathic with the card and the calls with Lexi and also the follow up calls for Sierra. So happy I went back as I got to meet Dr. Johnson who was so nice and understanding since I haven't had a puppy in 19 years.Read Less

We came to the unfortunate time in our family where we had to put our long time family companion to sleep.. We were greeted by an amazing, understanding, friendly, passionate and professional staff. We were explained our options and even though we wanted 12 more years with our guy we had to make the hardest decision ever. My wife, kids and I were a mess, they absolutely catered to our needs and allowed us as much time necessary to let him know how much we were going to miss him. At no time during this traumatic family event did this office try to make us pay unnecessary expenses or give us false hope to perform a unnecessary procedure. I give my wholehearted and unequivocal recommendation to the Veterinary Medical Center of St. Lucie County. I took my dog, Bella, in for a strange sore on her tail that turned out to be a very serious bite - the vets suspected a spider bite. What you may not know about such bites is that they can turn very serious, very fast and hers got really ugly and necrotic in a matter of hours. Bella is a very loved and cherished little dog. The thought of something biting her is unthinkable. Worse, yet is the thought of her losing her life or her tail. The entire staff not only showed compassion for her, but also for me and my husband during the many visits that we brought her in to make sure that she and her tail were healing properly. I am most thankful to Dr. Geraghty, the owner and Medical Director. I am at a loss for words. His kindness and compassion is unparalleled. Thank you for bringing your business to St. Lucie County. Mom had to bring our Peanut in yesterday because we could tell he was in pain, but we didn't know why. She was so scared and concerned that she just drove there without even making an appointment. They took him right in and found the problem was he had a couple bone slivers from a ham bone trying to work through his system. They assured mom that he'd be ok, and then gave him some meds to ease his pain. Both mother and dog came out feeling much better! Read Less

We brought our dog for an emergency visit on 12/23/2016. She is 5 pounds and was having difficulty breathing. My opinion was that she was having a allergic reaction to something that she ate. When I saw the vet , he said she was having trouble breathing and immediately put her on oxygen. He suggested that we do ex-rays of her abdomen and torso area. He read the ex-ray and said she was not constipated, her heart seemed to be enlarged and there was some fluid in her lungs but not much. He said that he thought that she was in heart failure. We talked about that for a long time as to the treatment and euthanasia. He did said that that might be best. I asked him if there was any way to treat her and he said that he would give her a scriptbfot ladies and a cough suppressant. He also said if the coughing, labored breathing continued we should bring her in to be euthanized. We gave her the pills that night, she still continued with the labored breathing. We decided to stop the pills. The next day she was not breathing heavily, was eating and more herself. I feel this dog was misdiagnosed and basically was having an allergic reaction. My concern is that we could have put her down if we had listened to him. This visit cost me $ 320.00 for an incorrect diagnosis. The hospital called a couple of days after to check on the dog (very nice of the to do this) and we basically told them how we felt. The response was that there was no indication in her record that he diagnosed her with congestive heart failure. We know what we heard and needless to say, we won't be going back there!Read Less

New to the area I reviewed all vets in the area. I have never regretted my decision to put my pets in the care of VMC. We started routine care with our two dogs when we lived to the area. After a few months here our older dog becane sick. I feel he was treated well. Diagnosed and not able to correct his condition, when I decided to put him down, I felt the vets I worked with tried many different ideas to help make my decision in his best Interest. Our other dog, a rescue with behavior issues has also been treated and taken care of. I have gotten lots of useful advice and meds as needed to help her. We also used the 24 hour care one evening as she got into something on our evening walk. We also get a discount on evening care. Now added another puppy to the family and feel I can count on any of the vets in this facility to help us.Read Less

Yesterday was our first visit here with our 10 yr old Shih Szu Bella after switching from the vet we've used since she was 6 weeks old. Dr. Slade and the entire staff were extremely helpful, thorough and made our experience a pleasant one. Dr. Slade did a much more thorough exam than her prior vet ever did for a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an experienced vetenarian in the PSL area. My daughter and husband brought their dog/puppy to your facility, their dog presented with a fever 105.2, lethargic. They looked for the closest care possible as they were very concerned and new to the area. They were met by polite staff and what appeared to be a caring Veterinarian. After initial exam, it was suggested that you keep the dog over night and run tests, to determine what was wrong with the dog/puppy and told them they could call as much as they'd like to check-up on their dog, Of course I than received a phone call, of the cost, being a good parent knowing the kids didn't have that kinda $ to spend on their dog, as they just moved...I gladly paid. I want you to understand Exactly What I paid for- X-ray, blood work, IV and saline, anti-biotic's, physical exam, crate for a night for which the dog remained in and it was Noted that he was laying in his own urine every few hours when you checked on dog/puppy! (Perfect-sick dog laying in his own urine)The next day I received a call again, we're going to get the dog....happy happy happy, in my mind I think ok dog must have bacterial infection- I mean he was sent home with anti-biotics? So I ask because I paid $1154.00 minus $171.90 reimbursed, what was the diagnosis??? I get, they don't know and dog still has fever? But he's got anti-biotics....So I say what do you mean, No diagnosis and he's on anti-biotics and still has fever??? Well they said dog should be better in a few days...Ok- Dog was not better in fact, fever back to 104.3 within 48 hrs- So I say Call them and take dog back- So my son in law takes dog back- and now everyone is a bit upset- my daughter, my son in law and now I'm upset- because we all believed the dog would be fine. Well let me say after my son in law (Nicest guy you will ever meet) insisted on a diagnosis or that you keep the dog until you could figure it out for $982.10, What was wrong with the dog, my son in law was told point blank Not to bring dog back to your facility by your vet Dr Slate- take the dog else where and said FUO is the diagnosis-Fever un-none origin- You went to school correct? Dr Slate...For $ 982.10, there was no urinalysis, heart worm test, nor a snap test competed... Well Dog/Puppy has Viral Meningitis...Diagnosed in less than 6 hours at another Veterinarians office- you gave a dog with Viral Meningitis- antibiotics-you could've killed the Dog/Puppy! I want my money back every dime of it, so that I can help my kids pay for a Pay a real Veterinarian who cares and can diagnosis a Viral infection. Be very careful taking your pets to this facility. The staff here was knowledge, helpful and extremely caring. I was seen immediately and the vet tech was so gentle and friendly to my dog. My dog ended up needing surgery and the doctor not only talked to me in detail about the possibilities, but checked in during the procedure to explain what was wrong and what they were doing to fix the problem. They gave me options for my budget and did what was best for my pet. Jillie is healing nicely thanks to the wonderful care she received at the Veterinary Medical Center. I have 5 dogs and two of them have had to spend the weekend in your facility about 3 weeks apart. I cannot express how much your concern for my pups meant to me.
