My family is new to Port Charlotte and every time I’ve called up there they’ve been so kind and helpful. Even when we got to the office the front desk girls were lovely and very considerate since I have my baby and over protective dog (of the baby.) the nurses and doctor were all so patient and so informative. I've been using this vet since 2000. I've had 4 dogs with them over the last 18 yrs and they've taken very good care of them. They are very professional but super friendly. A fantastic visit to the animal hospital today with our new rescued puppy Gabrielle which we recently adopted. It was her first visit there and it went really well. The staff are fantastic and do such a good job. I give them a standing ovation! I was afraid that it was going to be a train wreck because Gabrielle is so hyperactive and excitable, but it went very well. She got a thorough physical and got her nails clipped and she was calm the whole time due to the great and calming way that the staff have with the animals. We just moved here from Maryland and of course not a week into moving here our puppy decided to get into something!!! Saturday morning with no established vet our puppy falls down sick! I called the first vet I found through Google and I am so glad it was Charlotte Animal Hospital. They let me rush Maverick in with no questions on a Saturday late morning and treated him immediately! He was pretty sick so he ended up having to stay. Dr.Norris called with updates and letting me hear the crazy little dog of mine bark and act like his normal self. I felt 100% confident that he was in the best of hands! Dr.Norris communicated everything  and was so understanding! Not to mention the bill was under $400 and that included EVERYTHING!!! Two days of being hospitalized and under $400!!! You can tell they care more about your pet than their pocket! This is hands down the absolute best vet I have ever been seen! If you love your pet Do Not take theme here to be groomed!!! We brought in our 3 year old cat who is very healthy to be groomed and he died on the table and luckily they were able to revive him with two adrenaline shots. They said on their website that using gas is safer and that your pet cannot be overdosed. Not True!! My cat has been sedated twice before with an injection and he came out of the vets office just fine. What happened is they gave him too much gas because he was stressed out and struggling. To make matters worse they never apologized or offered us a discount for what our cat went through. It is very heartbreaking to hear him crying because he cannot move and he is heavily sedated. And they said because he died on the table he might be brain damaged. Just be careful of who grooms your pet because I would not wish this on anyone else. Very heartbreaking. Read Less

Wonderful place!!! They were wonderful to our Springer! We moved from another state and we had used the same Vet for 8 years and was very worried about finding one we and our springer felt that comfort and connection. Our Springer is unique and requires a little special care. We met Dr. Cronin and staff and liked them! Our Springer tried to kiss Dr. Cronin and gave his paw to the Dr....we knew he liked him, because that never happens that quickly! We have 4 dogs and 5 cats, so it's easier to use a vet close to home, well this past Saturday ( HOLIDAY WEEKEND) one of our fur babies needed to be seen, he was having trouble walking, I called our vet (no names) and was told they were not able to see him, and said i "probably needed to go the emergency clinic anyway", I was not happy...so i called Charlotte Animal Hospital not expecting them to see but thought i would try, and no questions asked told me to bring Sven in.... This is by far the best animal hospital I've been to. The facility is newer and clean, and has a lot of room in the waiting area so everyone isn't on top of each other. You don't have to make an appointment, just walk right in and they take care of whatever your companion needs. We usually see Dr. McDonough who is such a nice guy and always giving us the best advice. He really goes the extra mile but we've also seen the other doctors and they are just as friendly and competent. The rest of the staff are amazing, they are so patient and understanding. Our pups are very spoiled so they have a hard time going to the vets and the staff never act like it's an inconvenience. One of our dogs refuses medication and HATES his nails being clipped, and I know he gives them a hard time, every time, but they are so good with him and always finds a way to get them what they need. I know I can always come here and not have to worry about anything, they take care of it all and I don't think you can really get that peace of mind any where else. Read Less

My seventeen year old chocolate Siamese cat was treated here after he started sneezing and throwing up blood.  I was devastated and called my Michigan vet and friends.  Charlotte Animal Hospital was suggested for a check-up.  Dr. Norris found nothing seriously wrong. We have been using Charlotte Animal Hospital for about 18 months, since moving to the area. We did try a couple other vets in the area, but ultimately felt that Charlotte Animal Hospital fit our needs best. Although they do not make appointments, they have vets avaialble far more hours than most clinics. They do not have a staffed overnight hospital, which means having to transport your pet to the overnight vet hospital by Murdock Circle. That hospital is not open in the daytime hours, so if your pet is critical, you must again transport them back to Charlotte Animal Hospital for the daytime care. Fort Myers does have a 24 hour staffed Emergency Veterinary Care, but sometimes getting to Fort Myers in an emergency situation is very difficult. For routine care, and even emergency care, the vets and staff at Charlotte Animal Hospital are all kind, compassionate, and very knowledgeable. In one emergency situation, the vet at Charlotte was able to stabilize our pet and rush us on our way to Fort Myers for the higher level of care that our pet required. In another critical situation, we were faced with transporting to Murdock Circle for overnight care. We prefer a vet that is proactive and thinking ahead to all the possibilities and willing to offer options to us. We have found that at Charlotte Animal Hospital. Read Less

After moving to Port Charlotte from New England, I have to admit this was the last place I would have expected to find my favorite vet's office ever. How snobby of me! I love every part of this place. From the front desk staff, including Sue whose name is easy for me to remember because I share it, to the techs and the vets themselves, everyone is caring. I think that my dachshund sisters' favorite doctor is Dr. Cartelli, but now that I think about it, no part of this place is a favorite of theirs, so MY favorite doctor is Dr. Cartelli. He understood at once that my smaller dachshund was a "sensitive girl" and treated her accordingly. And he gently lectured both of them about jumping, which I'm sure they're trying to take to heart. Charlotte Animal Hospital has become my favorite animal hospital that I've ever been to. I have seven cats and a Yorkie so it always seems something is coming up. I love that there's no need to make an appointment and that there are always plenty of vets on staff. Everyone is friendly and competent. I've seen 4 vets that I can remember and I wouldn't hesitate to have my pets see any one of them. I am, however, partial to Dr. Cronin's personality and always feel that he goes above and beyond. I also like that they send an email after every appointment to check on my babies. I'm not a big phone talker so I like that I am able to respond to them via email and they get back to me. Our dog appeared very ill but was dismissed from our normal vet office. We felt something wasn't right. We called Charlotte Animal Hospital. They quickly pulled out records and got our dog in to see Dr. Kimbler. She was so thorough and compassionate as we have a very sick dog. We are not sure that our sweet boy will make it but I am thankful he's in the care of such compassionate people. Dr. Kimber listened to us and took all that we had to say seriously. Prayers that our boy pulls through and we are thankful he is resting comfortably in the good hands lof such amazing doctors. Our dog was fine one day and very ill the next. A good vet is crucial to the outcome of such situations. It has taken awhile for me to write this because I am still trying to take in this whole event in. Anyway, I wanted to take a moment to thank, and praise, all of you for your handling of my cat Max's "emergency" last week. We have know that Max was sick for awhile but I never expected to leave him sleeping one moment and come home three hours later and find him in respiratory distress. I ran him in there around 5PM, knowing that your vets leave at 5:30, and your desk technicians grabbed him immediately and ran him to the back. Although I asked for a vet that had seen him before, your technicians handed him to Doctor Cartelli who was available and then brought me to a room. In less than 10 minutes Dr. Cartelli met with me to give me options and reassured me that Max was on on oxygen keeping him comfortable. Being an 18 year old animal I told Dr. Cartelli that I didn't want to do anything heroic but he advised me to at least do an xray before completely giving up on one of my best friends and long time pet. The xray was done very promptly and showed a constricting tumor around Max's trachea. At that point it was easy to make a decision and I am so grateful for this suggestion; BUT the above and beyond treatment did not end there. Dr. Cartelli, and the awesome staff at Charlotte Animal Hospital, kept Max going on oxygen until my wife Roberta was able to get to the office from Fort Myers. Both of us cannot thank you enough for the great care and personal touch. Having the vet and staff stay after hours says so much about the care you provide. We took our cat here to be put down and the staff was incredibly kind. We called ahead to let them know we were putting our pet down and they told us we could enter in the side of the building  and go right into the room without having to wait in the waiting room, as we were very sad about losing our cat. Dr. McDonough and his staff were the best people that we could have at our side when we brought our 11 year old English Springer Spaniel "Jake" in for evaluation. Jake had his spleen removed at a fine hospital in Rogersville, Tenn. one month earlier. He had regained his strength and energy. Two days prior to our visit he had become lethargic and lost appetite. Dr. McDonough contacted the hospital in Tennessee, did blood tests and took an X-ray. He explained his evaluation thoroughly and competently. We made the decision to put Jake to rest. What an incredible experience I just had with this hospital. First, I must explain how I found them. My 3 month old puppy is peeing a lot of blood and needed an emergency visit. We, unfortunately, found Animal Medical Clinic first. We took our own pee sample and they ran a urinalysis. But come to find out, they don't accept Care Credit. So we basically got kicked out even though we begged for a payment plan. After a few tears, we found this amazing hospital and they had us come right in. Right away, the staff was absolutely pleasant and caring. They even called the other vet to try and get the results, but Animal Medical Clinic refused to give them out and even lied about the test being competed. The doctor and medical assistant were more than friendly and knowledgeable. They even sent us home with a huge (free) puppy care package which included different healthy treats, a full bag of puppy food, flea and heartworm medicine, and tons of information. Also, the clinic is very spacious, clean and well decorated. We definitely have a permanent vet for our puppy and I recommend this hospital to everyone!Read Less

They are so good with all of our pets and they take special care of our wire hair terrier who is blind to make sure she feels secure and calm when she comes in. I am fairly new to SW Florida and have had great experiences with this vet's office. They diagnosed my hairless Chinese Crested with congestive heart failure a little over 8 months ago and he is doing very well on his meds. I can hardly notice anything is even wrong. They didn't insist on doing a bunch of expensive tests like a lot of places would in order to help my dog. Then today, I had to take my 20 year old Siamese in as he was peeing everywhere plus I noticed there was blood in his urine on the concrete around the pool. I took pics with my phone of the blood stained urine in and again, no insisting I do a bunch of expensive testing. Today's visit was $99 and that included the shot the cat needed for two weeks. I have to go back again in two more weeks and they are not going to charge me for the doctor's visit, only for $50 for the antibiotic shot. Also, I had misplaced my cat carrier and so had a big cardboard box with my cat in it and they lent me a cat carrier. Though I live in Sarasota County now, I will make the drive to Charlotte County Animal Hospital when necessary. These are caring folks and they get you in with no appointment necessary and no expensive tests because they listen to the pet owner. Whoever on here said they price gouge can't be telling the truth.Read Less

this place is horrible! they just killed our 5 month old kitten! our two sons loved their kitty, slept with them every night!!!! we brought him in for a simple procedure, got a phone call a few hours later from dr. "sorry we have a bit of a problem, your cat went into cardiac arrest" perfectly healthy kitten. no explanation at all!!! he killed our cat!!!!! very unsympathetic, rude! our boys are crushed! this does not happen, they messed up!!!!!!!!!!!!! we are devastated!!!!!!!!! our kitty was amazing with our kids! I've been going to this place since 2004 and even though I've moved to a different county, I STILL  choose this place to take care of my furry friends. They have such a friendly and caring staff! There are some new vets on staff that I haven't used yet, but I'm sure they must be great to be hired there. My faves are Dr Vesper and Dr McDonough, mostly because they have helped us through some dark times with our pets. I love that you don't need an appointment to be seen. That being said, it's pretty much pure luck to time it so there isn't much of a wait. But, that is balanced out by the fact they will not make you feel rushed when it's your turn. I brought my cat in for a checkup and to update his vaccines. The doctor and tech were great with my cat and were able to keep him calm (he can get quite feisty...).The facility was very nice and clean and the staff were professional. Also, it was pretty cheap (in a good way!). Everything cost me about $50 and I didn't need an appointment. As a new patient I brought him in and he was taken good care of. My husband and I recently moved to Port Charlotte from California. Our little Schnauzer had been having issues for some time. We had seen another vet but on one particular Sunday we had an emergency and the vet's office was closed. We called around and found Charlotte Animal Hospital. I am so....very happy to have found them. Our little Schnauzer was having problems breathing and they immediately took us in and put us in a less stressful area. The cost for the visit, and meds were about 1/2 of what the other vet had charged us. One of the medications was donated to them. So in turn they donated to us at no charge. I have never seen a Vet's office do this. A couple weeks later, Ozzy was failing, worse this time. Dr Kilcourse examined him and gave him two injections and an oxygen treatment. I figured my bill would be a couple hundred dollars. To my surprise it was only $21.50. In the end my little man had to be euthanized. Again, the hospital was just fantasic. When we called they sent us in the side door and had everything setup for him. They gave us a blanket to carry him home in and we left through the side door. Not having to pass anyone during our time of grief. I cannot express our great appreciation of the handling and care that Charlotte Animal Hospital, Dr Kilcourse and their staff gave our special prince. I have been coming here -- on and off -- since 1994.  I remember walking in with my first dog Amber and how we were both quite apprehensive at the new sites and smells.  Now, after Amber, Jake, Gunnar, and Spike, I am taking Sophie here for the first time.  I really do like the vets at this clinic.  They are no non-sense and tell you straight-up what is occurring and what they think should occur.  Being used to penny-pinching misers, they do not try to force anything on you.  During the examination, the doctor told me everything that she thought was wrong.  She was a bit surprised when I asked her to take care of all the issues.  I need to make certain my little guy and smaller gal are in tip-top shape.
