First time taking my new dog to the vet on an emergency visit; she was very sick and I was worried.  They took her in within minutes of arriving and attended to us within 15 minutes.  Everyone we interacted with was very nice and professional.  Dr. Matt tended to my pup and was very helpful and reassuring.  After a diagnosis and some meds, my pup is back happy as can be.  The rates for visit and meds were reasonable.  I will definitely be returning to Boyette Animal Hospital. Very long wait times whether you have an appointment or not. The staff can also be rude - I am a new large dog owner who was forced to take my new rescue to the vet because she was coughing and vomiting. Because she was so new I was having a hard time keeping her calm in this new environment. A nurse who saw me trying to get her to pay attention to me and not the dogs she wanted to play with shamed me in front of the other nurse when she went inside making a snarky remark about seeing me outside and I was forcing my dog to put her butt on hot pavement. I was embarrassed already having a stressed dog who is quite large that I'm trying to control and adding to that was no help. I spent about 5 hours waiting for a walk in appointment and by the end of it I never want to go back there again. Went to have our pet checked out. The waiting room was not super filled, but we were glad that we had a set appointment. Our appt was at 6 pm an hour later we were admitted. I get that there are higher priorities than a cat who has a rash, but the staff never once acknowledged us or told us that we would be the last to be seen. One lady was extremely rude. We listened to her talking to her husband on the phone and then when we checked out she ignored us. I asked her "are you finalizing our tab?"She responded "yes, that is what I'm going.", she had the wrong pets being billed to us. Sooooo rude!I will say this. Once you get to the exam room the staff is outstanding, very cordial and energetic, but with that fortress of rudeness I'm unsure I want to endure that any time soon. We also received a small discount due to the long wait, but I'd rather pay full price and get in and out than wait soooooo long.Wish they taught more etiquette to the receptionists, especially red haired-ish lady. I got a new kitten (Chuck Norris) from Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center however I needed to get him de-clawed.  so I went to the same place I had gotten my last kitten (Bevis also from Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center in 2010).  Everything went surprisingly easy again, in Thursday  & out Friday.  Chuck was getting his procedure completed with Dr. John who was knowledgeable and courteous, he explained everything very understandably.  When I got home on Thursday I noticed Bevis had a kitty cold but also not been eating possibly 3 or more days. I immediately called & obtained a Saturday appointment to my surprise. But for the life of me I can not remember the name of the awesome female vet.  She examined Bevis & determined he may have a UTI, she provided me with several options.  Bottom line Chuck is doing great and Bevis was doing much better within a couple of hours.  I appreciate the friendliness, assertiveness & helpfulness of the staff repeatedly in the 3 consecutive days i was at their establishment.  I highly recommend my friends, family and all others to utilize Boyette Animal Hospital.  Two thumbs up! I took my dog in yesterday to have him euthanized. I called early in the morning to ask how much this procedure was. I was told 96.00 I asked if that was all I was going to pay and yes was the answer. I called back a few hours later after I mustered enough courage to make the appointment for 6pm. I wanted my husband there with me.  We did not get into an exam room until 6:45. This place closes at 7pm.  I dreaded the 6:00pm appointment knowing I was going to say goodbye to my sweet boy but it was stressful waiting around to get called in. Then we are told there is an additional 69.00 for cremation.  The doctor and her staff doing the procedure were professional, but this process is very emotional and needs to be treated a little differently than regular appointments.  Also all fees should be told in advance and not when you are in an exam room. So I've been taking all my dogs here for about 11 years and I have to say the Doctors are great and friendly staff and technicans as well. My only problem is that I have always waited so long in the exam room until my dogs are seen. The last two times, which were a few months apart, I have waited an hour and 15min and an hour and 30min. That is just way too long to be waiting. When I am told my appoimtment is a certain time, I expect to realistically wait at most 15min. I will be moving on to finding another vet. Again as far as the Doctors and staff go, they are friendly and professional but it is just the wait time I cannot deal with anymore. Read Less

This animal hospital is the worst of all worst!! I can't express how angry I am with them. I took my dog in multiple times and they had no idea what was wrong with him. All they wanted to do was give him meds and hope that one of them worked. I spent so much money on meds that didn't work or it had nothing to do with his problem. My usual vet was closed on saturday and my cat had a medical emergency. I called 5 places before Boyette they were the only one's willing to squeeze me. Turns out my cat needed emergency surgery and Dr. Steve stayed after hours to perform the surgery as she was in excruciating pain. Three days later she is back to normal healthy and happy.  They followed up the surgery with phone calls  yesterday and today to see how she was doing. I will be forever grateful to them. Read Less

About a week ago my precious 11 year old Smokey almost died from hyperglycemia (blood sugar to low) from his normal insulin dose. The place was PACKED and i ran in yelling for help because my cat was seizing and they took action right away and saved his life and also taught me so much useful information on how to manage his fluctuating diabetes. The individuals who work here clearly don't have a passion for animals. They disregard not only how the animal feels but have no consideration for the owners either. They will not communicate with the owners before proceeding to muzzle and force your baby down on a table. Do NOT go here if you care about how your baby is treated. If all you want is for someone to make sure stuff gets done with little regard for your babies feelings, guess this is the place to go. Just don't be mad if they either call the county and try to have your dog killed (like they did to someone else), or they traumatize your baby by muzzling them and forcing them down without even approaching you or speaking to you first. My cat had blood in her urine and no other vets had opening for like a week. Luckily this vet does walk ins. I waited for maybe 15min and was seen. The techs and vet listened to me when I told them not to scruff my cat and to put a muzzle on her. Caring Vets that realize your pet is also a child/family member. When we had to put out last Lab down due to Cancer, the Vet and his Tech agreed to come outside to perform the procedure, Our baby loved running and playing outside and we didn’t want her to be in an office space during her last moments. Just as she passed, the sky opened up and rain poured down drenching us. Although we didn’t care as we were grieving out loss, the Vet and his Tech stood by patiently in the pouring rain, giving us all the time we needed to say our goodbyes. When I first started coming here, I was in love with this place! I don't know if they have just gotten too busy, but the customer care at the front desk is on the slow decline. The last time I went into have my puppy weighed, a tech yelled at me when another persons dog got too close to my puppy and growled. No harm no foul on the dogs part. They are dogs, they sniff each other, they are in a stressful environment at the Vet's office, they establish alpha, etc. But why yell at me??? In front of a room full of people like I'm a child. Where that turned me off, she was one person, I wasn't going to let that affect me coming to see Dr. Steve. But, the last two times I had more of an urgent concern that I needed checked right away, they are scheduled 3-4 days out. Not to mention that every visit, I would have to wait more than an hour to be seen for a scheduled appointment. The doctors are great, but I believe that the other staff members need training on how to handle their clients/patients. I managed a medical facility for 23 years... I would have reprimanded an employee for treating a client the way that girl treated me. AND, if someone has an possible emergency, I would make sure to get them in right away, not brush them off for an appointment days out or tell them that if they decide to come in and wait, we might not get to them that day. Emergencies are always the priority. We ended up contacting another Veterinarian that moved appointments to get us in right away... and yes, it was a situation where my dog needed to be seen urgently. Read Less

After moving here from Indiana in 2011, one of the first things I was in search for was a vet to take care of our three "kids", as well as a groomer. I couldn't be more satisfied with my choice of Boyette Animal Hospital! Our groomer, Danielle, has been great, and the level of service from the vet side has also been great. Dr. Sarah took wonderful care of our cat when she came down with bladder stones. The only negative I have is that they are always busy, which is either a sign they are really good (lots of customers), or don't have enough staff, which definitely does not seem the case. This animal hospital is absolutely amazing! Quality care to the highest extent. My rabbit (Lily- 3 years old) had come down with possibly head tilt (E. Cuniculi). We called a day ago and got an appointment the same day! We waited maybe 10 minutes total in the waiting room. Extremely professional front end staff. Went into a full exam room and saw the nurse immediately. She was very caring and kind with our pet. After she left, we waited barely 5 minutes to see Dr. Geoff. He is awesome! This place is FAR from professional and cares more about money than the care of furbabies. I have two dogs and foster for a rescue. We gave a lot of business to this place and we were treated not only like strangers all the time but they constantly wanted to re-run tests that another vet already had done at the rescue. Everything seemed normal as a new patient at a vet's office until my dog bit a tech (even after I warned the vet (Dr Cotten) that she might bite before he took her from me to go behind closed doors). It was her first visit and she was afraid. After huge discussion they still reported the incident to Hillsborough County Health Dept and HC Animal Control, but they could and should have prevented the bite. They are a veterinary office that deals with animals that bite. It's not good if your pet is reported to the county, and they tried to manipulate the story by saying they don't need to take full precautions because a dog might bite. I think what happened is the vet handed my dog over to grooming to have her nails trimmed and didn't warn them, and I'm being penalized for it. After requesting a copy of the bite report that was submitted to HC, they gave it to me, but shaded the incident description so I can't see it. They should disclose that the bite was provoked and that it was in grooming at Boyette Animal Hospital.  Truthfully, they should be fair and not submit it at all since they should have prevented it from happening. Don't take your pet there because they're dishonest and take no responsibility for their actions. This should have never happened and they should be ashamed. This was one of the most horrible experiences I ever had with a vet clinic. We are new to the area and someone recommended this place, so I made an appointment and told the receptionist that I will have limited time due to only having an hour for my lunch break. After being there for 45 minutes still waiting in a lobby one of the associates came out and advised that the doctor we were assigned to see has taking lunch. I got a feeling those people have no regards to other people's time. When I tried to reschedule the receptions was also rude and short in her answer trying to make me wait longer. The vibe I received from this experience is that they are the only people who have jobs and others really don't matter cause they need to take lunches. They have no respect for their client's TIME. Being in a medical field does not make you superior, you are still here to serve people, and some offices just fail to do just that. If you are looking for a quick professional quality service for your pet this might not be an option for you, a busy person with a job, kids, dogs and a house full of chores will be just wasting time trying to get an appointment there. Have dealt with them several times with three dogs in seven years. They are excellent as to working in budgets on medical care. My Long hair Chihuahua developed epilepsy at age 15.5. really bad with communicating when it came to assisting my cat. They failed to mention the complications that were possible after giving my cat a pu surgery after paying $1500 and putting him through it. And one month after getting the surgery, he had to be put down because he didn't heal properly or another option was they "didn't give X-rays prior to surgery to find why he was blocked in the first place so could of had a kidney stone but they didn't check because no X-rays" they said that checking for the cause of blockage was part of that $1,500. And only makes sense why wouldn't you check for the cause of the blockage. I do not trust them and I'm livid and now without my baby boy. I do not recommend taking your animal here.Read Less

I brought my schnauzer here like I had multiple times before. I may have gotten a different person but this time was terrible. I normally cut her myself but hadnt gotten the time, my mistake. The lady even called me to get specifics. She did not cut the top of her head, her nails are very sharp from being cut, and she looks choppy. My dogs hair was long when I brought her in, she was over due but she looked aweful. They have you pay before they bring your dog out so I had no idea. I've been going to Boyette for over 2 years now and I've never found a better Vet's office! The staff and doctors are so awesome. They've treated both of my cats - Oscar who had terminal cancer and Oliver who has diabetes. Their love and compassion for animals is evident at every visit. I'd like to call out one vet tech in particular - Josh. He's helped out on several appointments for my kitties including Oliver's appointment 4 days ago for a respiratory infection. Dr. Michelle is FANTASTIC!!! I have an almost 10 year old English Mastiff that I adopted just over 2 years ago. He is my pride and joy in life, unfortunately he was not socialized well  in his pervious home so he gets very nervous with new people and reacts defensively out of it. (And when you have an almost 200lb dog defensively barking at you, let me just say it's intense for everyone.) We work with him as much as we can but still always use his "Hannibal Lector" mask lol. I know we aren't the easiest clients, but she is amazing with us every time we go. I will only schedule appointments with her because she understands, respects, and is so patient with my boy and it puts me at such ease. Yesterday we had a bit of a scare and had to rush him to the vet. His back end was bothering him, he had been pacing all night, not able to sit or lay down and had extreme hypersensitiviy in the area. (so much so that he would let out a terrible scream if you barley brushed against the area) Dr. Michelle was completely booked for the day but they squeezed us in to see her. While examining him she immediately found the cause to be severe back pain. Though we are not sure of the exact cause (you can't really just toss a 200lb animal that's in pain onto the xray table lol) she gave us some medication to help relax him a bit. Once all the tension and swelling dissipates we will probably bring him back for x rays. It put us at such ease because we had no idea what it could be- we thought it was something with his joints/ leg and we didn't know how severe it was (if we were gonna be suggested to put him down). He got his 3rd round of medication and has already improved so much. And the visit was not as costly as we were expecting- less than $150, we had expected it to be around $300- $400.  I have had only positive experiences with every employee I have encountered and would definitely follow Dr. Michelle if she was to ever change hospitals. I cannot express how much I appreciate her and I always recommend her to anyone who asks. Read Less

I have been going here many years with no issues. Today though, I arrived 10 minutes prior to my 2:00 pm appointment and waited an hour. At 2:45 pm I just left. I still hadn't made through the initial door. I understand that things happen but really??? Why have appointments when you sit for an hour. People arrived after me and were seen before me. My dog Cheyenne has had some health issues recently and I have been seeing them every few weeks with follow up appointments. It seems I wait 20 minutes just to get to the examination room and then spend another 30 minutes in the examination room staring at the walls until the doctor comes. I think I will find another vet. I really like them but these wait times are painful. I live in s. Tampa and travel 35 minutes to see them so to sit for another hour ... Sigh, I think it's time to find a new vet in Tampa. To much aggravation going out of my way to drive 35 minutes to Riverview and then spend an hour and still not be seen. Read Less

We made an appointment for our two dogs for their annual checkup. We were on time but waited a half an hour before being called back. Customers who arrived well after we did were called back before us. Once we were called back it took another hour and a half for the vet to complete the visit. I've never had such slow service at a vet. Then we got the bill.....almost $400 total for the visit for our two dogs. These guys want your money! We were charged $50 for a standard antibiotic for a UTI and another $20 for some baby wipes. Absolutely overpriced and I waisted two hours of my time. At least my dogs have their shots now, but we will not be back.Read Less

I've never used any other vet as long as I've had pets. To me, that's a good thing. I have never felt the need to search for a new one. The staff is always very helpful and friendly, not just to me but also my dog.They do a great job of explaining and answering any questions I've ever had.They have Saturday hours and offer training classes too.  There are separate entrances for dogs and cats so pay attention as you walk in. I highly recommend  Dr Steve. He is as straight forward as it gets with the treatment and is always good for a few laughs. Read Less

Why 4 stars? Because my cat can see out of his right eye again!We've taken both of our cats here for several years now, and never had a problem. Usually we take them in for 'normal' checkups and shots, but recently we had to take the big boy in for an eye issue.It turned out he had an ulcer on his right cornea. The 1st time in for this Dr Steve showed us the ulcer by dropping some green dye on his eye. The healthy parts of his cornea repelled the dye, whereas the ulcer part absorbed it and gave off a green sheen. We were given 2 scripts and told to come back in a week.The 2nd time in Dr Steve showed us that the ulcer had not gotten better, and told us he needed "a procedure". Since he hadn't done well with anesthesia in the past, Dr Steve agreed to try it without. It involved an assistant (wish I remembered his name, he was excellent too) holding our boy while Dr Steve scratched a grid pattern on the eye with a small needle. It was tough to watch, but I'm so grateful he allowed me to see what was happening. We brought him in yesterday and his eye had completely healed. Scratching the grid forced his eye to respond and begin healing itself, and it worked like a charm. we'll always be grateful to Dr Steve and his assistant for the care they gave our big guy! I've been taking my Boston to this office for 10 years . You rarely get out of the office for under $250.00 . I cannot remember a time that I didn't wait at lest 30 minutes in the examining room & many times I just go through the back Dr. Door asking if I've been forgotten . Dr. Sara B. Is wonderful but you don't always get the same Dr. Also , We had a very bad experience in boarding where upon calling I was told that I had a very mean dog and the kid argued back with me . I had a friend pick him up - I was 3000 miles away . The boarding area seemed to be staffed with very young kids . Not really sure what I'm going to do . Read Less

This is a top notch animal care provider.  I've only just begun my experiences with this hospital, but I'm very pleased with their level of hospitality, service and quality of care.  My dog has received care twice for healthy problems and the vets and vet techs have handled her with the utmost of care.  They were gentle calming, and even spoke to my dog to comfort her during and after her procedures.The grooming center is extremely well organized and maintained.  I loved the care that my dog received while she was there.  Her groomer was attentive to my requests and was prompt for pickup times.  it is evident that this facility is run extremely well with the some of the best in the business. #191I use this vet for the normal care for my two pugs, Tank and Tiki. They have provided very good care but nothing was ever wrong with either of them. When Tank came down with what we called a cold he walked around the house sneezing and nose running, and it wasn't getting better. We took him to Boyette on a same day appointment (on a Saturday) to get him looked at. He was diagnosed with a upper respiratory or sinus infection. Either way the treatment was the same. The staff were great and the vet was very nice and Tank is now on antibiotics. My only beef with this place is the waiting. It seems excessive. My doctor office runs on time, seems this place can't. Minor, I know but hey, when you're sitting in the exam room for 15 minutes it seems a bit longer than that. Read Less

I've been taking our dogs here since moving here 3 1/2 years ago.  I'm very happy with the care my dogs get here.  Dr. Michelle is awesome with my fur babies.  She does not push unnecessary vaccines or testing.  That is a breath of fresh air!!  She loves to tell "animal stories" and makes you feel like a friend.I've also used their boarding and grooming..both are great.  My dogs actually get excited when they get to "go on vacation".  If they board for 5 or more days, they groom them for free before you pick them up.The only reason I do not give them 5 stars is because of the wait time.  Put in a tiny room with 2dogs for an extended time gets them stressed out, the I get stressed.  This is the one thing  they can work on. Love the care they give my dog but hate the wait.  Unfortunately every visit comes with at least a 45 min to an hour wait.  Once the Vet arrives I am reminded why I keep coming back.  They treat my pets with care and compassion.  I've also used the boarding services with no complaints.  My dog is always happy and clean when I pick him up and doesn't seem to mind hanging with them for a day or two once a year.  Great place for great vet services, just give yourself a few hours for the appointment. I like the doctor's and the staff - they take good care of me and are very loving. I don't like boarding there, because I miss my mom and dad too much and it is really hot in the summer. I like that they have different entrances for dogs and cats and that they have their own side. But then again, I like cats so I miss out on meeting new friends. I am going for a Mani-Pedi today, also not one of my favorite things to do, but they are still patient with me. All in all, a great vet. Read Less
