When Dr. Nicole Tisdale was there, I would have given this place 5 stars solely based on her personality and bed side manner.  I like Candy too, btw.  Now Dr. Tisdale is gone and Dr. Nicole Canavan has taken her place.   I discussed my problem with this place with the first Doc Nicole... if I have an appointment time, the staff needs to respect that.  For example, if I bring a pet in to be put down, I'm already a wreck and I want the job done at the appointed time.  You can't make it?  Send your staff in to tell me when you CAN make it.  Ever been escorted back with to a room and had to sit on the floor with your dog because s/he wants out NOW and the doc is running late for whatever reason?  I have zero problem rescheduling, just tell me.  I've had quite a menagerie over the years and I've been to my fair share of vets.  This is the ONLY place I've ever been where my time was NEVER respected.  They aren't even in a hurry to take my credit card to pay.  I'll stand there at the counter, waiting to check out and do a slow burn waiting on somebody to say, 'I can take you over here.'I get that emergencies happen.  That said, I suspect that Drs. Rose and Canavan want me and others to believe that each and every time I and others come in, there's an emergency holding them up.  I don't really buy into that theory.  Maybe they schedule patients too close together, I don't know.  Regardless, the customer service is lacking... the respect for MY time and my pet's TIME is severely missing from this place.  I don't know what the problem is with this facility but what I DO know is that I have a lot of pets and whoever gets me as a client, is going to make a lot of money.  What I DO know is that I work three jobs to make sure that my fur babies get the best that I can afford.  What I DO know is that I've had it with the waiting game accompanied by not just poor customer service but NO customer service. The kids all like seeing Dr. Rose. They try not to have more than a few animals in the common area at any given time. I feel like I always leave with a good understanding of what is going on. The prices are reasonable. The staff are friendly and attentive. It typically takes five minutes to be called in for your appointment. It takes about five minutes to transition from the nurse checkup to the doctor visit. It takes about five minutes to get checked out. I recently had an issue with my 12 year old golden retriever where we had to take her to an emergency vet at 9:00 pm on a Sunday.  She was given heavy medication to stop her from having seizures and they kept her overnight. We then had to pick her up at 7:30 am and take her to st pete beach veterinary clinic.  We really did not think that she was going to make it and Dr. Rose kept her for observation for the day. We took her home at the end of the day and in the morning rushed back to see dr. Rose in  because again, we thought we were losing her.  The whole office was so accommodating and helpful and Dr Rose reassured and supported us in whatever our final decisions were  going to be.  We brought her home again to keep her comfortable and on more than one occasion Dr Rose called to check on her condition.  In addition, anytime we called in with questions, he got on the phone with us and talked to us in depth.  Miraculously our golden has  recovered!  My family would like to thank  all of the staff at   st pete  beach vet and Dr Rose for your caring and compassionate care.  On a side note, I found your pricing to be extremely fair and I thank you for that tooCarla K Read Less

When I first got my cat I took her here, and they seemed very nice. My cat stopped eating, and when I took her to get checked out the vet made me feel terrible about not being able to afford a $1000 overnight stay at an emergency clinic or another very expensive option. He made it sound as though I didn't want to spend the money when it was very obvious I'm a student who can't afford that high of a bill. If I had the money I would have spent it in an instant. They wouldn't even allow me to do a payment plan when I asked. Any vet that views your pet as a bank is a vet that doesn't care about you, and even less about your pet. Read Less

I live close, so this seemed like the obvious choice for veterinary care, but I am beyond disappointed. It is unfortunate that my experience was SO bad I will be finding a new place, even it means more travel. I brought in my cat because I felt weird lumps in a few places on her body and couldn't see them when I inspected. The doctor told me they were just scabs and not to worry. He asked if my cat had fleas and I said that she hadn't displayed any indication of having fleas. I asked if he could just check since we were already there and he said to just look out for them. (An obvious ploy to get me to come back on a separate occasion. I was already there! He couldn't have looked?) We determined that the scabs came from cuts, what looked like maybe a sharp edge to a door or something that ripped the skin (not flea biting or scratching). Then he proceeds to pull off the scabs on my cat, one of which starts bleeding quite a bit. He then charged me for the "clean up" of the wound and for the anti-bacterial cream that I now needed because of HIS actions. And ever since we left the vets....my cat seems to be scratching a lot. A LOT. I definitely would have noticed if she had been doing it this much before the appointment. It's like she got fleas while we were there. These are only my suspicions based on the attitude and behavior of the doctor...but the whole thing is just sketchy. He was sketchy. The bill was sketchy. And I won't be putting my kitten in the hands of that guy again. I think his name was Doctor Rose. Read Less

Dr Rose has been our vet for several years for our 2 small dogs Koda and Rose. But Rose died last night. And Dr Rose killed her. Our Rosie who was 9 years old and had been seen regularly for a heart murmur and progressive congested heart failure. She still enjoyed a mostly normal life with walks and joyful moments. She was taking Enapril and Furosemide and until recently was managing pretty well. She had a bad night of severe coughing 2 nights ago. So we took her to the vet. Dr Rose completely misdiagnosed her. We paid for a couple of Xrays which revealed that she was doing OK and did not have much fluids in her lungs . So really the only thing to do would have been to stop the cough, possibly find the cause. As it turns out Enapril is known to cause coughing. He should have taken her of Enapril and given a codeine cough syrup. Just that . And she would possibly live for many more years. Instead hee treated her for acute bronchitis or pneumonia .He gave an injection of Dexaject a very strong steroid. which is specifically counter indicated for dogs with heart disease. It is also not to be given with Furosemide. He injected our 17lbs dog a dose of .75ml which is almost twice the .5ml as recommended for a dog 22 lbs. Also for no reason since our dog did not have a respiratory infection, he prescribed Temaril a broncho- dialator, Temaril is also counter indicated for dogs with heart disease. and also notto be given with Furosemide. She went to the clinic at 10 AM . At 2 PM our dog Rose showed signs of extreme anxiety and distress. We called the vet around 4 PM . He said that as long as she was not coughing any more it sound alright to him. She'd get better. Steroids do cause panting! Rose got worse. We should then have called out mobile vet and friend. But at that point she probably would have had to be euthanized. The injection and other drugs were killing her already. Maybe we wanted to believe she would improve still. Rose died in the early morning after hours of suffering being unable to breathe. We called Dr Rose staff in the morning to tell them our Rosie had died. They would tell Dr Rose. He was definitely informed We have not heard from him. He has never called us back !!!! Read Less

I've been going to that clinic for awhile, and whatever doctor is there they been doing a good job taking care of my dog. But latley their boarding care hasn't been that great. Just awhile back my dog came home with a bare spot about an inch or so round on her leg. I ask them and they said they didn't have any idea how it happened. Then after that she got her paw caught in the play room some how and ripped her nail and it started to bleed. The doctor put a bandage on it which couldn't have cost more than $2.00 and charged me $40.00. Then the same day the kennel guy bathed her and I guess he was letting her run around to dry off a little and guess he wasn't paying any attention to her and she injested a tennis ball. My wife wasn't to happy with this whole situation. I may keep them as my vet but may look for another boarding place. Read Less

I tried St Pete Beach Veterinary Clinic, because Dr. Sheppard is located there now, and after a couple of visits I have definitely found my new clinic. I followed Dr. Sheppard there because of her sensible approach to pet care and appearantly she has wisely chosen to link herself with like-minded associates. My dog and I had a fantastic experience there. The facility and staff have a nice warm and personal appeal to them. You don't get the cold clinical feel that you have grown accustomed to, nor are you bombarded with the adertisements that are plastered on the walls of most clinics. The ads mentioned often make you wonder if the clinic is more motivated to run a business than it is motivated to give care -not that you can't be interested in both, just that your primary motivation should be for pet care and that should in-turn create a succefull business-. The ads also make you question a product companies influence in the decision making of a facility and make you wonder if they are acting in the best interest of you and your pet. One other nice little feature about the facility is that it even has a nice little boutique attached to it that me and my Rottwieler enjoyed roaming around in.The other big upside to the clinic is cost for services and cost control. During my experience their, I have found that their rates are VERY reasonable and FAR more reasonable than any clinic or hospital I have been to in the last 10yrs. Not only have I found their rates to be reasonable but they a very proactive in managing the cost by effectively assesing which procedures are necessary and which procedures, while available, are not necessary. So far, I can only give them the highest recommendation.
