HSSC do need to expand their business though because they are very busy and you do need to book ahead of time. If I could give negative stars I would, they aren’t even worth one! My Dog was Neutered on January 5th, 2018. When he was sent home he was provided with no pain medication, only an anti inflammatory. On January 10,2018) my boyfriend made me aware that Alpha (my dog) was up all night and was acting weird. I checked his surgical site and it was swollen to the size of a grapefruit. So my mother called the vet where the surgery took place (Dr. Nina’s Animal Hospital, sarasota FL) and made an appointment, which was only available for the next day. So I made sure she iced his area and when I got home at 8pm from work I went to check the area to see if the swelling went down, it had only gotten worse. The incision had burst from the swelling and there was blood everywhere. I rushed my dog to the Emergency Vet and they gave me pain killers and antibiotics until my appointment which was the next day at 2pm, (January 11, 2018) I went to the Vet as soon as they opened ( 9:15am) today and they assessed the wound and said that it needed to heal while open, instead of stitching it back up. They said that the visit would be free, the medications would be free for all the issues that occurred, and when I was about to leave, the vet stated “everything is free but the medications, which you will pay for upfront.” Let me remind you that she just said everything would be free. So at that point I was so traumatized , my dog was traumatized, I asked to see the owner who was there at the time. When the owner entered the room I explained everything I just stated above and he just looked very annoyed and angry with me and started to tell me that I was “over dramatic about the situation” and that he was basically not responsible for the damage that was done to my dog. He went into the back to discuss with the vet. When he came back he was being very rude and loud telling me all of the reasons why I am wrong, and I guess I ended up offending him because he threw the medications at me and told me “to get the hell out of his building and not to come back” let me also inform you that I pay $50 a month on a plan to take him there, which included “free neuter” which was obviously not free when they were trying to make me pay for the medication for his infection. I went to the front desk to grab my paper work and he followed me, yelling “you need to leave this building , your not welcome here, etc.” so I went outside shaking crying because now I have no clue on what to do about my animal and his open wound that I was supposed to get help for the next two weeks in healing at the vets office that I am no longer welcome at. The front desk lady brought me my paper work for my plan and gave me the ultimatum to either pay $610.38 by the end of the day or continue to pay the $50 a month for five more months that I am no longer welcome at. The Business owner who caused this whole situation also threatened to ruin my credit by cancelling the plan himself. My mother came down to calm me down and talk to the owner herself and he had his office staff lie for him and say he was no longer there when I myself witnessed him run into his office before I left. I am traumatized, my dog is traumatized and I have no idea how to get justice for the torture I have gone through with “such a simple” procedure. Please help me by sharing my story and making people aware of the hell Dr. Nina’s Animal Hospital caused in my life. I am a college student who is now in even more debt because my child, not my dog, is left with a botched surgery. Thank you. Read Less

Dr. Nina and her staff are absolutely wonderful. My dog Mocha is very nervous around strangers, the staff is always compassionate with her anxiety and are patient with her. Mocha has severe allergies and Dr. Nina and staff always treat her appropriately and clear up her outbreaks. The wellness plan is incredible and well worth the investment. It takes away the question of bringing your pet to the vet because of money. There is usually a wait for our appointments, but that tells me they don't rush their patients in and out, they actually take the time needed to address the healthcare needs of our fur babies. I am strongly recommending Dr. Nina's vet hospital to anyone looking for an excellent place to bring your precious fur babies. Read Less

We have recently moved here from another state. I needed my dogs nails trimmed, it was time to purchase heartworm/flea preventative, and one of the 2 dogs had an ear infection. So I took their records in to show that they were up to date on everything, and just needed to get the above mentioned done. The people were nice, no real problem there, however, no one ever gave me any sort of estimate of what things were going to cost, as my previous vet would do, and when I went to leave, I had an almost 700.00 bill. ( about 300 was heartworm/flea preventative) I was really taken aback at the total, never expected it to be over maybe 450.00. So today I had to take the dog back for a check up. I arrived at my appt a few minutes early, and was taken to a room to wait- where I waited for over 30 minutes AFTER my appt time for someone to come in. The place was very loud, with dogs in the back howling, some guy working and banging on the door in the front, and the machines in the back beeping non stop. I got a migraine. After a 45 minute wait all together, I was simply told ( by a different person that my dogs had seen previously) to give the dog the ear medicine another week.....that's it. I had maybe 3 minutes of the person's time, and they charged me 78.00. So now I have spent quite a bit of money in 2 weeks there, and still have a dog with an ear infection, with no idea if its going to get better or if I will have to give him different meds after this or what. My dogs don't need shots for a few more months, I will just have to keep looking for a vet here in Sarasota.Read Less

Last year, I boarded my dog here because I was homeless and didn't want my dog to suffer in a hot car all summer. I regularly visited my dog. I went to pay the $300 bill but was short $20. They said they would not accept partial payments and told me they would keep my dog until I could come up with the rest of the money. I didn't get paid for another month, so the charges kept piling on. Dr. Nina told me that I owed $900 and I had ten days to come up with the money OR MY DOG WOULD BE EUTHANIZED. I started a gofundme for my dog and urged potential donors to donate directly to the vet. I regularly updated the gofundme, telling people how me and my dog were treated. I received a call from the office manager, who was freaking out because of the volume of calls to their office, and people complaining about the ethics of putting down a dog bc of nonpayment. He told me to come get my dog immediately and that they would not be accepting any payment at all. Basically, people calling the vet had donated directly to them, in excess of what was owed, and the clinic was very upset bc of how they appeared to the public. I got my dog back that night, even though I was far away and they had to stay open later to accommodate me. Even though I had provided all her food, many treats, medication and toys and bedding, my dog managed to lose over 4 lbs in a weeks time. They weren't feeding her properly and were taking out their anger on me at her. Further, when I was reunited with her, they attempted to keep her items, like her bedding and toys, and attempted to make me pay $300 (even though they had already received donations that were in excess of that amount). Finally, they were so upset that I had made my story public on gofundme and that they looked bad, that they gave her back, without demanding the funds raised on gofundme. I'm not homeless anymore, my dog has regained her weight, and we are very happy together. She has also become an ESA. I will never forget how Dr. Nina threatened to kill her over a monetary situation that could have been prevented on their end if they had just accepted a partial payment. Read Less

When we initially moved to Sarasota we took our sweet Foster to Dr. Nina and were very pleasantly surprised both by the care he received and the reasonable cost of their services compared to what we were used to in Illinois. A couple of years later we moved across town and decided to try a very convenient vet much closer to our new house. After two visits there we were making the trip back to Dr. Nina's!! As Foster is aging, the care he receives is patient, loving and understanding of his special needs. I am quite at ease leaving him in their care when he needs a "home away from home" and their in-house health plan is a great way to save money. Well mine did. She also said to bring him in first thing next morning, which was 8:00am. We slept till 8:10am on the 26 and I already had two messages from Dr. Nina's to bring Ace in. My husband did, they gave us treatment and off we went. But...despite the cone, my dog chewed the swelling during the night. I called on the 27th at 1:30 am and was in by 8 am.

Read Less

I had a terrible experience today after three years of exceptional services and I will not be returning. I simply asked to make payment arrangements and pay two installments of a large bill paying half today and then again in 10 days. I will never return due to their lack of compassion and rigidity. Not impressed and yes I paid entire bill on the spot but the attitude and emphasis on profits over their established patient truly disappointing.

Read Less

Great staff and a great location. Dr Nina and their entire staff of professionals have always had our dog's best health, my budget & dog (animals) comforts in mind. They sell good products & food as well. I have been through the worst kind of dog drama (nose cancer/mast cell) and Dr. Nina helped us so so much. Our dog has come out on top & goes to Dr. Nina and their team for primary care. The office staff is awesome and always eager to answer my questions.Read Less

My dog Ace was neutered on Friday the December 19th. On December 25th I noticed swelling (big) and redness. I called, but thought "boy there is no way someone will call me back today" but left a message anyway. Dr Nina called me back, explained to me what can happen, if a dog gets too active. I feel everyone at this animal hospital went above and beyond to make sure Ace is ok. Ace is getting better already and to his dislike, he is sporting a bigger cone!! Read Less
