We were very impressed with the staff. Everyone was super friendly and very helpful. They answered all of our questions, inlcuding the receptionist, staff and Doctor. It truly was a great experience and we cannot thank you enough. We have been looking for a great vet and sooooo happy it all worked out. Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital is really top notch. They may be a little pricey compared to others nearby but you really get what you pay for there. There staff and doctors are very compassionate and bright. They take their work very seriously but also remain upbeat and cheerful. I love this vet. The entire staff is amazing! They take excellent care of your animals. They have no problem getting down on the floor with your dog to do the exam. They provide lots of treats to keep your pet occupied. If your pet is afraid of the vet they will figure out some way to examine them. Read Less

Very carrying staff and doctors. I've been going there for 15 years and have tried two other vet offices but have stuck with this one. Recently my svc. partner and lifeline started a new journey and i rushed him up there not knowing why just all of the sudden. Arrived at 7:30 & they didn't open till 8 but my son went and knocked on the door and they came to see what he needed and probably to say we don't open till 8. But instead flagged me I and put him on oxygen immediately. Dr. Tinsdell was the kindest person. They let me go to the oxygen room hold him while he changed worlds, take as long as i needed which i did. Their on park from gulf blvd is the 2nd light on right. Their the best. Read Less

Oakhurst is probably the best vet hospital I have ever been to and I have lived in many states and have had pets for many years now. Dr. McKenzie and all the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, down to earth and kind. Their pricing is very reasonable and they are not "salesy" at all with recommendations and adding in unnecessary extras, while still being very thorough and having your pets best interest in mind. My cat Binx was hit by a car. She broke her pelvis and tail and we didn't know if she would make it. Binx just spent 5 days here. They are awesome! Dr. B and the techs were so nice! I would come and visit her twice a day! On her last day she was sitting up . I will continue her care at home and she will be back in for check ups. I love this place....! Everyone here is so incredibly nice AND patient - and with my two girls (Hobbes and Maggie), I need folks who are loving and patient. I have gone to 2 other vet locations and so happy I found Oakhurst Vet. Years ago I went to a vet in Madeira Beach when I found Maggie sprawled out on the floor when I got home from work. I rushed her into the vet as soon as I could, by the end of the day I picked her up and was told that they gave her some fluids, but if she isn't better by the morning to bring her back. I am not even CLOSE to knowing about animal health, but I've got a TON of common sense and *KNEW* there was something serious going on and she wouldn't be "better" by the next day. I made an appt the next day with Oakhurst and after a week of fluids, medicine, etc and so forth, they had Maggie back up and running. Had I not taken her there, she would have died THAT week. She's diabetic, which I deal with, but now she also has to get fluids via an IV twice a week. Well, no way I could do that - the IV needle is as big as a javelin, so I take her in to Oakhurst Vet and the WONDERFUL Vet Techs take care of her for me. They have ALWAYS treated my girls with care and they are patient with their mother. Love this place and am so grateful they are available..... Read Less

Cant say enough about Drs Tyndall and Donovan. After an episode of several large seizures and a trip to the emergency vet happy to say that my 11 year old boxer mix is already acting a lot like himself less than 2 weeks later. While the exact cause has not been determined, it has been very clear that they are concerned not only for his well-being, but also for my concerns and understanding. Additionally, by luck Sam (tech) was on staff at the emergency vet we rushed to. Upon hearing we would be going to Oakhurst, she ensured that not only was the medical information forwarded, but also made direct contact with Dr. Donovan to let her know what was going on. Several people came out to help me carry my boy in when we first arrived, and all of them seemed caring and concerned. After the boy and I were finally home and awaiting lab results, I called to leave information on his progress as well as concerns. I wish I could recall her name, but the person who answered accurately passed on every bit of information that I had provided.Read Less

Four months ago we began treatment for Buster's chronic cough at Oakhurst. The early treatments were steroids and antibiotics. Two months into this regime Buster was ballooning from the steroids. The treatments were changed by Dr. Amber to an opioid cough pill. This pill was marvelous. It was easy to administer and effective. When that prescription ran out we found that the pill would no longer be available. A liquid, cherry flavored alternative was available. This liquid is hard to administer and not as effective because of the way it must be given. This liquid is 74 dollars a bottle. I requested 5mg hydrocodone pills to make it easier for my 13 year old rescue dog to take. Note: this is the same medicine without the added poisons. Dr Donovan came back with my Buster's care plan and told me, as she rolled her eyes back, that she would not let me have the available pill form of this medicine. We work in geriatrics. We work with Hospice on a daily bases. Our dog is old. He has been abused in his past and we are looking for a doctor that is interested in my Buster's comfort and well being. We felt no real love or compassion. We were offered over priced dog supplements and unnecessary treatments for the care of his cough. His cough keeps him from resting.
