We recently moved here from northern Virginia. I've always taken my cats to a "cat only" hospital. Though this was a tad further than I wanted to drive, and I had my doubts whether the drive would be worth it, upon meeting Dr. Frank I knew it was. I am SUPER super picky about vets - and have moved alot, so I've seen my fair share of them.  I question their recommendations alot because I believe in a more holistic approach, with general medicine added in. My cat has had FHV and runny nose for 2 years. We've done all sorts of antiobiotics in the past which doesn't help the virus (and weakens the immune systems).  Dr. Frank didn't try and push this on me at all. He gave me some saline drops to drop in her nose - AND didn't even charge me for the the syringes or saline - something most vets would do.  He also explained the options for surgery due to possible polyps. He was so genuine and takes a matter of fact approach without sending you home with unneccessary things just to try. I have been bringing my cat, Sasha, to see Dr. Frank since around 2006. I have never met a better veterinarian. I work in healthcare, and I actually wish there were more people doctors who treated their patients the way Dr. Frank treats each cat. I moved away in 2009, and I ended up having to come back to Florida, but now live about 40 minutes north of Nine Lives Cat Hospital. However, the longer drive is still absolutely worth it. The staff there is great: Sue, Caitlin, Renee, etc. are all just really good people. They always remember me, and they remember my cat. Dr Frank is the best vet I have ever been too. My cat was very ill. After 2 vet visits at other facility's, no one could diagnose her. Once I saw Dr Frank, he was able to diagnose her and fix the problem instantly. He advised us the best route of care and the fee's were presented up front (which were very reasonable). There is no other place I would take my cats. Saw crappy vet after crappy vet. Kept looking and found Dr. Franks. Sweet. Compassionate. DOESNT OVERCHARGE OR UNECESSARILY ORDER TESTS. I live all the way across town but I wouldn't contemplate anyone else. If you have a cat, this is the place for you. BTW-He has a huge window in exam room that is for his aviary. I moved here one year ago. My cats are so important to me, and the first 2 vets I tried weren't a fit. Then I found Nine Lives Cat Hospital and Dr. Samuel Frank. He is so incredibly wonderful. Things that impressed me:-Knowledgeable -Extremely thorough-compassionate-no dogs allowed to scare kitties-GREAT prices, does not gouge or over prescribe unnecessary procedures. -pleasant personality-Explains things to me in a way I can understand-Gives treatment options-Has a neat bird aviary with large viewing window from exam room to keep kitty engaged and distracted. UPDATE: 1/30/16 My fur baby Kacie is still very healthy. She has been spayed and very healthy and playful. This vet at 9 lives was my worst nightmare and I thank God i saw signs from listening to him talk to take my girl to a 2nd pion. I can not believe you told the bull that she needed to be put down. You need to go learn more about special breeds. I will continue to tell people about my visit with you and how you wanted me to pay so much as I did happily to make sure she got the best care. I can not forget how you told me that people will agree with you on their cats of treatment. NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY. I didn't even argue I let you do the test the X-rays. She is almost 1yrs old and happy and playful. 2 other vets gave her a healthy report. Did the same test. Waste looking for money and spent $500. that was supposed to be a check up on a new kitten. do not go here. I brought my kitten in for a check up. When I told him she was 4 months old this doctor started saying she should be bigger. She is a persian kitten. He also was not shy about stating how he hates breeders. The breeder I got the kitten from is like no other, she is awesome and has many years of vet experience she is also located in a near by state. Before running any test, any blood work he stated to me he is worried my kitten might have FIP and it is extremely hard to test. He said FIP keeps him up at night cause if any cat, kitten has it that they need to be put down. If a cat/kitten has it then every cat or kitten that drinks from the same water bowl needs to be put down also cause it is contagious. After spending $500. on test and X-rays that we were not even expecting he calls us the next day and talks to my husband and says to him that "none" of the test show anything but he feels she has FIP. Meaning she needs to be put down. All because she is small in size. I am highly upset how this doctor handle our kitten. Our kitten eats fine, drinks fine, plays extremely great and has no issues with potting. This is all because she is small compared to other kittens her size. I would had never listen to his advise and I am thankful I didn't. So now we have a different vet who said their is nothing wrong with her she is small but she is perfect. Her adult mom is 6 lbs and she is very healthy and her dad is 8 lbs so being a persian alone is a smaller cat/kitten. She is a teacup size. She is now 6 months old and still 100% healthy girl. She gives no signs at all being sick or any unhealthy issues. As she never did. She gets nothing but the best of healthy pricey cat food. It truly makes me sick that this vet wanted me to put her down cause she is small. If you read this, Maybe you need to learn about breeds and how some breeds are smaller and not to assume they have FIP and you can't even test positive for it! My husband and I spent days and nights of research for vets and this FIP and how it is very hard to test. I will never give your name to anyone and I will make sure I tell anyone looking for a cat vet to go some where else. I had two different vets at two locations to check her out and run test and they said no way. That she is a perfect healthy kitten she is small but that her size is not un-normal. I pray no one else goes through this ordeal that you put us through and waste $500. I knew something wasn't right when you said you hate breeders and was searching for a problem cause she is small. Thank God I got a 2nd and 3rd opinion and my kitten has not ever showed any signs of problems. I was just getting a check up. Biggest mistake and waste of money and time. I now have two kittens the 2nd one is a month and a half younger and the one he said was small and needs to be put down... well she is much bigger then the one is a month younger. They both go and get checked they are all done with their shots. I am so happy I have a different Vet he is awesome and talks to you like family.Read Less

Every a very lengthy search for a new vet, as I just moved to FTL,  I found Dr.  Frank via Yelp.  I decided this time I only want a feline vet as cats are quite different and need someone who is familiar with all their little characteristics, idiosyncrasies, etc.  Veterinary science is a difficult area and is not as black and white as it is with humans due to their inability to share what they feel.  Having a doctor qho has only worked with cats for 20+ yrs makes all the difference.  Yes,  you want a doctor with the proper education and experience.  However, when it comes to an animal a lot is based on intuition and time spent interacting w/them. I feel Dr Frank has all this,  and he also has a fabulous bedside manner.  He spends time with every patient explaining in detail what is going on; he includes all types of visual aids so you really understand.  you may have to wait a bit even with appointment but that is worth it for the expertise you receive.  Prices are reasonable,  way less than other vets (I have been to at least 6 in 3 states) that dont even come close to the type of care Dr Frank offers.  Finally the front office is extremely well organized, following up on your appointments,  faxing documents when they say the will,  very reliable.  I highly recommend this office. I brought my cat Dexter there thinking he was just stressed out. Dr. Frank examined him and told me differently. Dexter was close to death. Immediately Dr. Frank worked on him and I was able to take him home that day. At 8:30 AM the next day the office called checking on him, than again at 10. I was told to bring him in that day. Dexter was admitted to the friendliest hospital I could imagine. He was there for 6 days and everyday they called to give me his progress. I was also able to visit with him daily. If you love your cat you'll bring him here. No up sale on unnecessary vaccines. I was worried about how they would treat my 6 year old big boy, and they completely calmed me down and I was able to sit next to the Dr.Frank and his assistant while they gave my cat his full check ups. He explains as he works, and he has cats of his own. They only cater to felines, so no loud barking from dogs. They have a cool bird house in between the waiting rooms. Just brought my cat, Bibi, here for her one year check up and her rabies shot.  I have decided that this will be her new vet.  I love that they cater to cats only.  Dr. Frank seems VERY knowledgable when it come to felines and gives very honest assessments.  I love that the have a little bird viewing area to keep cats distracted.  The staff also is very kind and accommodating.  I haven't used them for boarding yet but surely will in the future. We live on the west coast of Florida, but travel to the east coast just for Dr Frank's care. He truly is the "cat whisperer". My one cat in particular, Eli, is a renal kitty - since 2007. When several emergency vets were ready to give up on him during a crisis, a phone call to Dr Frank literally saved his life. He knows cats. Period. And he never gives up. I just love everyone there. I love this cat hospital! It is so refreshing to see an animal hospital that is dedicated to cats. They even have a little bird room between the exam rooms full of finches for your cat to watch! Dr. Frank is an excellent vet. He always takes the time to explain everything he is doing, and the treatment options. My cat Alfie had a corneal ulcer and Dr. Frank recommended an excellent ophthalmologist to me. The vet assistants and extremely nice and helpful as well. Dr. Frank is one of the best veterinarians I have had the pleasure to meet. He is up front and honest about what needs to be done. Unlike other veterinarians I've encountered, if a problem is minor or does not need to be dealt with immediately (dentals, vaccinations, etc.), he will be up front with you about it. He doesn't throw in 'extras' that were unneeded but will still let you know what is necessary for your pet in the future. The staff is also incredibly dedicated and wonderful in their work. I've brought my "free" cat (a lovely older female who showed up at my back porch about 5-6 months ago) here twice for upper respiratory problems. Both times I've put down a significant amount of cash at check out, and I couldn't be happier. No concerns, and you're paying for the experience and knowledge that comes with only treating cats.Dr. Frank takes the time to discuss all the various possibilities with you, and doesn't rush anything. My cat's doing better, but he's said she'll probably be dealing with these problems the rest of her days, and gave me options to consider.The visit itself is, of course, traumatic, but the cats usually calm down right away. After reading many other reviews here I expected 9 lives to be a great vet. Our cat needed neutered, and unfortunately we do not have a lot a money. I called around and was shocked when a place people loved so much came in cheapest at 180. I would later find out there was a reason. After showing up, we were pushed into getting our very healthy cat. They made us get our cat tested for aid and rabies. Something we did not want to do, because there isn?t much you can do anyway and because we were fairly sure he was healthy. He has been our baby and lived inside by himself since we rescued him at 4 days old. Their reason? The vet was afraid he could get aids from our cat. Sadly, I was 90% sure that humans could not get aids from cats. After getting home I checked, they can?t. Maybe a vet should know this but the vet at 9 lives did not. They also put on a hard guilt trip to make us get all kinds of shots that we cannot afford and is a single baby who lives 100% of the time in our house we didn?t feel he needed. We were not invited to see his check up. We were not kept up-to-date threw out the day. His nails were clipped extremely short and we were not asked. He was given a bath and we were not asked. When we picked him up, we were rushed out. We were not given more than 30 sec with the vet who did not even tell us the result of his check up or how the operation went. On the way home, we noticed that the medicine he gave our cat was for DOGS only. I called immediately called the office and asked if they gave us the wrong thing. I was told it was fine and didn?t matter. I also had to ask if he needed 2 or one doses that day. The secretary who is the only one who talked to us more than 30 second did not know. After she went to a few people she talked to who I would guess was the vet who told her he had not received any medicine even post op and we would need to give it to him. That?s fine, but I wish they had told us that at the vet so we could have given it asap. What really bugged us both and why we will not be back is what I heard next. The vet telling the secretary something to the extent of ?I?m tired of these dam people?. We are sorry that we did not want to do everything to our baby nor could we afford to do everything you wanted but no business that wants to stay in business should treat customers that way. Update, as promised: my cat did very well during boarding, and I am seeing continued improvement with Dr. Frank's recommended course of treatment. Very pleased.------------------------Took my cat here to see Dr. Frank after a couple of visits to another hospital that didn't quite meet my expectations. Still working through my kitty's issues, but Dr. F. took the time to review my cat's medical history before asking me redundant questions, and made logical suggestions based the "complete picture." Mostly I felt that he was actually paying attention to my cat, which is important to me. I have to admit I was somewhat mutinously silent throughout the appointment, curious to see how much he'd glean from the exam, and he picked up on a couple of things that my last vet dismissed, even when I specifically brought the issues to his attention.I am intelligent enough not to expect miracles on a shoestring budget. Because of my compliance and willingness to pay whatever it takes to get excellent medical care, I feel fairly entitled to being treated with respect, and like to see that the Dr. is paying attention to my cat's case. I'm not always an easy client, as I do expect the best, and this place so far has not disappointed.Staff was friendly, office was clean, all the recommended tests and treatments were accomplished about 30 minutes after my time with the Dr. was up. Everything my kitty needed was in stock (not the case at every place). When I called the office to touch base with the Dr. a couple of days after my appointment, my call was courteously handled and promptly returned. i will be sending my cat in for a week of boarding here beginning Thursday, and will write an updated review in a few weeks.
